I swapped from my Nvidia 970 many years ago to AMD and haven't looks back since. AMD is so damn good and the software is by far the best. I am currently Running the 5600x + 7900 GRE. This build runs all the latest games high FPS without issue. (RT Disabled ofc - 1440p)
5600X + 7800XT, there may be 7900GRE, but it came to store bit later, when I already have 7800xt and can't return. Bit sad about it cuz it was for same price (~680$ in RU stores), but I like my 7800xt, Sapphire Pure, silent and cold - 60° gpu and 78-79° hotspot.
been stuck with AMD since RX 480 day all the way back in 2016, from GTX 960 > RX 480 now in 2024 I have RX 6800 it's quite janky at first but overtime AMD drivers just keep getting better 😊😊
I've always beleived the best graphics card is the one that you can afford that provides the best results. If that's Nvidia, great. If it's AMD, that's great too
You are cpu bound in all games, especially on rx 6900 xt at 1080p.Raster performance ,the 6900 xt should be around 35-45% faster. You should try undervolting, had a rx 6800xt, undervolted to 1050mv at 2200mhz with fast memory timings it was faster than AMD stock while drawing 184w, the 6900xt should be capable of similar results.
I use a 6950 XT and my parents have 6800 XT, they're way more different than that. I'd say 1150mv, 2500mhz min/2600mhz max on core (for stability), 2400mhz on memory with stock timings. If unstable could try lowering memory speed and/or raising voltage.
My experience with switching to AMD from nVidia has so far been absolutely perfect. I got an RX 6650 XT thinking of it as a temporary GPU, but have had zero issues whatsoever with the drivers (or anything really) and I love AMD's Adrenalin Software even more especially with the minimal install option as it contains everything I need with pretty much zero bloatware running in the background - a stark contrast in comparison to GeForce Experience. The only thing I miss is nVidia TXAA in some older titles, which otherwise have some rather bad anti-aliasing options (Assasisn's Creed Unity/Syndicate, Rise of the Tomb Raider to name a few), but that's pretty much it. Sure, nVidia is better at ray tracing, but it's not like I can just set ray tracing to ultra with an nVidia GPU and get high FPS either way, so, to a high refresh rate gamer such as myself, nVidia is as useless in ray tracing as is AMD. I used to be someone who was hoping AMD would succeed, so nVidia would lower their prices, but now I'm actually looking towards AMD's new GPUs way more than nVidia's as, to me, they've proven themselves to be a fantastic choice.
Build an RX 6600 into my second rig and am pretty happy with it so far. Its surprisingly cool and quiet. Have an RTX 3070 in my main rig, but as soon as its gonna need replacement, Im def gonna go AMD this time. I just hope they improve on upscaling. FSR cant keep up with DLSS still, sadly.
My first gpu was an rtx 2060. I tried it as apart of my first pc build which I was trying to go budget oriented for, but I needed extra performance. So later on down the road, I decided to upgrade my gpu to the rtx 3070. Way better than the 2060. But I recently built a new pc altogether and got my first amd gpu, which is the rx 7800xt. I wanted a new pc for 1440p cause I thought it was time to ditch 1080p. I couldn't be happier with this gpu. Just kills me the prices nvidia is asking for compared to amd. They're definitely the value king for what you get. Will continue to go with amd forward
Hi mate, when testing video encoders you could try 2 things: 1) setting a fixed bitrate and doing multiple recordings with different bitrates (but always the same on both gpus) going down with numbers. In the end the best encoder will be obvious because at lower bitrates it'll simply have better quality. 2) you could set the same quality factors (for example crf or qp) and see which GPU recorded the heaviest video, a heavier video for the same quality is usually due to less efficient compression. Keep in mind that you should record the same scene if possibile or something that's reproducible, also it is better not to record almost static scenes because most likely you would not see the difference.
went from 1070ti to an rx 7800xt at first it was lagging on me and I was gonna rma it..... turns out my idiotic ass didn't insert the pcie power cables all the way in and after that I was amazed to have my fps tripled in 1440p in almost all games Tip: download the pro drivers they are more stable
My first GPU was nvidia 9600 GT, then after sometime I brought sapphire R9 270x, then RTX 2060 super now again 7900xtx. 😂 I bought a 7900xtx because I got it on sale and it has more vram, most of the time I do video editing and gaming too. it's not like you can't do productivity in AMD at all.

On rdna 2 sometimes you need to manually set the minimal clock speed or you get dips on your fps. Also any games that have an directx 12 use that over 11 like in fortnight you usually get better fps. I think Rainbow 6 also has a directx 12 and 11 mode.

I recently built a new pc with the 7900 xtx and a ryzen 7950x3d, it absolutely stomps every game i have, that being said i come from a 1060 6gb, and all my games are about 10 years old, i also use a 60hz 1080p monitor. Anyway, a large part of why i upgraded is because i play Minecraft with mods, and, as an example i got an abysmal 30-40 fps in the dw20 1.19 modpack, with a render of 8 chunks. So i get my shiny new amd pc together and start Minecraft with a very similar modpack I personally put together, expecting to be able to play Minecraft with the fabled 32 chunk view distance i started conservatively at about 20, and got.... 40fps, on a 8 year newer gpu and cpu, going from mid level parts to some of the best money can buy. I dropped my render distance to 8 and the performance was almost as bad as my old pc! I reduced my allocated ram ( i had allocated an overkill 30gb since im a silly goose) and no better, then i looked online and found emmbedium, a forge version of sodium, i went from and unstable 60 fps at 8 chunks to a stable 400 at 20 chunks. Since then ive started using distant horizons set to 200 chunks and use a real render distance of 20ish, i capped my fps at 100 and very rarely drop into the 80s, which since i have a 60hz display doesn't bother me one bit. I also do host my minecraft on a lan server so it takes some weight off my cpu. Conclusion? Minecraft has to be one of the least optimized games I've ever played, it never used more than about 15% of my hardware's potential before embeddium, i do wonder what my old pc would be like if i used it there too. I'll probably never go back to Nvidia, anyway.
Planning a build in few months, by then both Nvidia and AMD will have their line ups released. My bets are on AMD, since they want to win over some market share and flood gamers with their cards, I assume it's gonna be best bang for the buck GPUs. 1080Ti served me well, but now Im stepping into VR / 4K 120hz+ territory.
RX 7900 XTX is a goated buy since there wont be a high end RDNA 4 and the 8800 XT is looking like it wont be faster than the 7900 XTX anyways. Also the price has gone down to $800! Faster than a 4080 SUPER by the way, and still has the Ray Tracing performance of an RTX 3090 Ti.
RX 7900 XTX In a modern game. Black Myth Wukong Radeon GPUs, even the 7900 XTX, won't be able to play Black Myth: Wukong at the maximum ray tracing quality settings. I had to choose between a RX 6800 and RTX 3070Ti for the same price, and I would've loved to get the latter if it wasn't held back by that 8GB VRAM. 16GB is a little overkill, but better too much than too little. I know I'm missing out on a lot, but I figured the higher memory capacity outweighed better RT and DLSS in the long run. I play at 1080p, where DLSS doesn't really hold up very well, and I absolutely do not care about RT. I wasn't going to upgrade for a long while, so 8GB wasn't going to cut it.
The best thing to happen to older Nvidia GPUs has come from AMD. Nvidia for some reason lock their frame generation behind the 40 series of GPUs, yet AMD's implementation works great on the 30 series. My main PC has a RTX 3060 12GB and my couch PC has a RX580 8GB 2048sp in it. The RX580 still punches above its weight and custom drivers are keeping it relevant. My couch PC is also the first all AMD PC I've owned in a long long time.
I always thought my next card would be RTX. I'm currently on GTX 1660 super and my previous card was Radeon HD 6950. So I don't upgrade very often. 😂 But now, I think I'm going back to AMD. Nvidia is just way, way, way too expensive. It's not that I couldn't buy an RTX card. But it wouldn't make any sense for me. I think I'm going for 7900 XT and upgrade to 8000/9000 series later. If Nvidia was cheaper, I would go for them instead. But they are simply too greedy. And I don't support that.
Wait for 8000, it will most likely be better than the mess that is 7000, or just go from the great prices I usually see with the 6750xt, 6800, 6800xt or 6950xt.
@@MaruMag I'm not really interested in 8800 XT that much to be honest if it's 16GB and 256 bit. I know it will have better RT but I don't really care about RT that much. Although XTX is a bit too pricey still and hogs too much power.

The inconsistent performance is 99% likely due to your cpu. The games where it mostly happened were cpu intensive like valorant. Especially Minecraft because the entire game uses 16x16 textures so the gpu barely has to do anything
I made the switch from Nvidia and intel to a full AMD system. 7800x3d and Rx 7800 xt, more than happy with it. I refuse to pay for Nvidias over priced cards when AMD equivalent is cheaper either same the performance or better
valorant, rocket league, mc, and many of the games you play are cpu heavy. You'd get more fps with a 5700x3d cpu. Also ignore r6, that game's benchmark tool is inaccurate after vulkan removal and the game is VERY laggy on all cards if you play a legit game with dx12. You have to play it on dx11. I miss vulkan... to fix some driver issues, make sure you use ddu before installing the new drives. the 6900 xt should be between the 3080 ti and 3090.

if you wanna avoid youtube fkn up your video by re-encoding, you should record in 2560x1440p or higher so you force youtube to use the VP9 encoding. this way your quality is higher in the footage + youtube doesnt destroy it that much by re-encoding. it also makes no sense to record 120FPS as youtube doesnt deliver 120FPS videos. oh an if you dont care much about filesize and have good amount of upload speed you should consider recording with either CRF (constant rate factor around ~20) or CQP (Constant Quantization Parameter ~20) this gets close to lossless and depending on the value (lower number means higher quality and way more bitrate) it takes more or less bitrate. the bitrate is dynamic depending on how much is required in the frame. so fast game scenes with much changes and camera pans require way more while slow games with minimal changes in the scene require very low bitrate. this approach keeps quality high and filesize as low as possible compared to a static bitrate like CBR (constant bit rate) who may use way to much bitrate for slow/static scenes and also not enough bitrate for fast scenes. thats the main reason why livestream on limited bitrate result in macroblocking and other render artifacts.
I find it absolutely hilarious how you never see any videos talking about switching to nvidia. I personally would never willingly put an nvidia card in my computer, but I guess a ton of youtubers use nvidia gpus for the productivity potential
I actually own an RX 6950 XT and an RTX 3070, for most things the 6950 performs a bit better, and I prefer to not use upscaling, if I have to DLSS is better, bot FSR isn't as terrible as many reviewers claim. On newer games that use a lot of VRAM the 6950 works much better. Honestly, if the prices were similar I would got with the 6900. Keep in mind I don't stream or do any sort of productivity work, so to me I just want a gaming card, and if I wanted to try a little video editing or streaming, even an RX 6600 would be sufficient for that at a hobbyist level, as a matter of fact my brother streams Rust for several hours per day, and is very happy with his RX 6600.
went from a 3070 ti to a 7900 gre and i love it the downsides in my eyes is DLSS is better than FSR and RT is better on team green but in all honesty unless you're playing CP2077 RT isn't even worth turning on.
I hope you see this comment as I have a few questions... What is your CPU? What is the tier/Wattage of the PSU? What case are you using? These are all things that could affect jumping from a mid-range GPU to a high-end GPU. One other question I have is what model did you buy, and if it was used. Not all companies that make AMD cards do it well, I'd love to say that there is a lot of competition in the GPU market but there really isn't. Many fibs that make both nVidia and AMD usually care for nVidia way more, making way better model and such, whilst not giving a shit with AMD. One thing that may be affecting you performance would be you drivers, most people recommend resetting windows you you get a new CPU or GPU. One other thing to consider as well is that the games you had shown are quite easy to run, and some even rely more on you CPU than GPU, and when it comes to Minecraft, in my experience, with mods not matter the system, the frame time will be shit.

Have you noticed some things look better on AMD? Nvidia fuzzed out the jet black aliens heads in Alien Dark Descent for me and made them kind of a grayish meh.
i've had a 7900xt and have a 7900xtx for about 10 months. too many people are worried over nothing AMD is just as stable as Nvidia (i owned a gtx 970 from 2021 to 2023) I'm sure the vast majority of people who buy NVidia would still be well served by AMD.
In my experience Nvidia is more stable but I still prefer AMD. I may change my opinion soon since AMD finally acknowledged the issue I've been having in their latest driver notes under known issues. (The VR one)
using nvidia gpu's are decent at their jobs as i found out if you do not overclock them for every game your getting 100 to 200 fps at max settings but if you i found out amd gpu's are op with a fsr with it becasue it quadruple its framrates alot higher than nvidia's could
many novideo shills think theres no other option untill they try radeon and find out that drivers, software and featureset are actually better and now with AFMF2 being released theres no reason to buy nvidia for gaming
Amd is one I'd go for it of these 2 I picked 6800xt when I upgraded was during the crypto madness so 6800xt or 3070 where about as far as budget could stretch raster performance and extra vram as well as being slightly cheaper are reasons I picked amd
Its better for gamers to use amd because amd is more focused on gaming and cuts away lots of features outside of gaming. People forgets that nvidia do charge more because it also offers alot more on the productivity/ 3d rendering ends. People keeps bashing nvidia by looking purely on price/fps alone. Which in my oppinion is not very fair. Amd is not even remotely close to nvidia if you need a gpu for professional work.
Went from a gtx 1080 ti to rx 7800xt myself pretty decent with a few exceptions. Windows 11 replaced my amd graphics driver when i tried it although my motherboards wifi also gets replaced by windows 11. In terms of VR it runs better than my 1080 ti and the av1 encoder is better than the h265 encoder of my 1080 ti although amd,s h264 encoder is stinky might actually be worse than the one on my old 1080 ti. I play games primarily on a 4k 60hz monitor
Fake results mostly probably a bad driver installation, the 6900xt is faster and better overall. I have a 6900xt and it's absolutely a monstrosity. Now I use my 7900xt more but it's still fun installing custom bioses on the 6900xt
If you are streaming, h264 on any amd card is a pain in the ***. But if you're using AMD's hevc/h265 or better there is no difference or it is trading blows with nvenc. Because of the 8 GB VRAM limit on the RTX 3070, you get an even more capable ray tracing card with RX 6900 XT, a much better gaming and productivity card if not use Optix render. Congratulations.

been stuck with AMD since RX 480 day all the way back in 2016, from GTX 960 > RX 480
now in 2024 I have RX 6800
it's quite janky at first but overtime AMD drivers just keep getting better 😊😊
Same here from gtx 960 to rx 470 and now i have rx 6600 😅
yeah. i used to say that at launch date, amd is like -5% from nvidia same class card. One to 2 years after it gets +5% over the same nvidia card.
I m on 5800x3d of:1800 -25 all core, and 6900xt 2300mhz at 1125 +15PL. Am i limited in some way?
you can just turn the resolution up to 1440p to see better performance.
Have a 7900 XTX. It's great. Should it use less power and should RT be faster then it already is? Would've been great. But it's still great.
I used to be someone who was hoping AMD would succeed, so nVidia would lower their prices, but now I'm actually looking towards AMD's new GPUs way more than nVidia's as, to me, they've proven themselves to be a fantastic choice.
what cpu do you have the gpu is barly being used lol. in val i get 500 fps with 5 7500f and 6750xt so i think you might want to upgrade the cpu
What happens if you like both brands, but you buy whatever you want?
Is that mind-blowing?
Valorant is a really cpu reliant game so its no suprise it didn't change. What cpu do u have? just curious
That 6950 was a good score. I'm not a fanboy of either company, but switched to AMD with a 580 in 2017 and now a 6600xt because AMD is a better value.
Hi mate, when testing video encoders you could try 2 things:
1) setting a fixed bitrate and doing multiple recordings with different bitrates (but always the same on both gpus) going down with numbers. In the end the best encoder will be obvious because at lower bitrates it'll simply have better quality.
2) you could set the same quality factors (for example crf or qp) and see which GPU recorded the heaviest video, a heavier video for the same quality is usually due to less efficient compression.
Keep in mind that you should record the same scene if possibile or something that's reproducible, also it is better not to record almost static scenes because most likely you would not see the difference.

i went from a 1660 super to 6650xt and have been mostly impressive, beside the minor freeze for 2 seconds everytime i alt tab from google to a game

You should upgrade your CPU and get a 1440p monitor when you can. You got a very good card and using it at just 1080p doesn't do it's justice.
if you wanna avoid youtube fkn up your video by re-encoding, you should record in 2560x1440p or higher so you force youtube to use the VP9 encoding. this way your quality is higher in the footage + youtube doesnt destroy it that much by re-encoding. it also makes no sense to record 120FPS as youtube doesnt deliver 120FPS videos. oh an if you dont care much about filesize and have good amount of upload speed you should consider recording with either CRF (constant rate factor around ~20) or CQP (Constant Quantization Parameter ~20) this gets close to lossless and depending on the value (lower number means higher quality and way more bitrate) it takes more or less bitrate. the bitrate is dynamic depending on how much is required in the frame. so fast game scenes with much changes and camera pans require way more while slow games with minimal changes in the scene require very low bitrate. this approach keeps quality high and filesize as low as possible compared to a static bitrate like CBR (constant bit rate) who may use way to much bitrate for slow/static scenes and also not enough bitrate for fast scenes. thats the main reason why livestream on limited bitrate result in macroblocking and other render artifacts.
If I'm reading your overlay correctly, you might have a CPU bottleneck that could be limiting the GPU.

People forgets that nvidia do charge more because it also offers alot more on the productivity/ 3d rendering ends.
People keeps bashing nvidia by looking purely on price/fps alone. Which in my oppinion is not very fair. Amd is not even remotely close to nvidia if you need a gpu for professional work.
my next gpu is going to be amd after my 3060ti breaks
Went from a gtx 1080 ti to rx 7800xt myself pretty decent with a few exceptions.
Windows 11 replaced my amd graphics driver when i tried it although my motherboards wifi also gets replaced by windows 11.
In terms of VR it runs better than my 1080 ti and the av1 encoder is better than the h265 encoder of my 1080 ti although amd,s h264 encoder is stinky might actually be worse than the one on my old 1080 ti.
I play games primarily on a 4k 60hz monitor
Av1 is in all brands now so not really a comparison
your experience with rl craft was probably limited by your cpu
Fake results mostly probably a bad driver installation, the 6900xt is faster and better overall. I have a 6900xt and it's absolutely a monstrosity. Now I use my 7900xt more but it's still fun installing custom bioses on the 6900xt
Im also on the fence switching to AMD lmao
If you are streaming, h264 on any amd card is a pain in the ***. But if you're using AMD's hevc/h265 or better there is no difference or it is trading blows with nvenc. Because of the 8 GB VRAM limit on the RTX 3070, you get an even more capable ray tracing card with RX 6900 XT, a much better gaming and productivity card if not use Optix render. Congratulations.
5:50 I cant say I know the solution to RainbowSix, however I noticed that you did not note your Processor, so after seeing your Minecraft results, I am curious on what Processor u have? Since it could either be that, or Minecraft is just modded to sh*t. Which could be your cue for a processor upgrade.

Ryzen 7 5800X, also nah we got oil and fish
@@MRFRoZteRzminecraft severely cpu bottlenecked in your video
@@MRFRoZteRz F***, well jokes aside, a 5800X should definitely be able to keep up with minecraft and RainbowSix too for that matter so now im just confused
@@Spectrulight no it's a ram issue, I'm like 99% certain
I've bought a used 3070 for 225€ mainly because I do 3D rendering and 6800xt here is more expensive by a 100€here
If you just game the 6800xt is definitely better than the 3070
I think 6900xt is higher class than 3070. makes sense it performs better.
You need to consider that you may be cpu capped in some games. Most obviously in minecraft. So the different gpus wont matter.
Why so low fps on 6900xt? Is your cpu bad?
@@Thomas_Angelo Yes
@@MRFRoZteRz what's you cpu?
@@Thomas_Angelo 5800X, its getting CPU bottleneck’d
@MRFRoZteRz It's not the worst cpu but yeah you are getting bottlenecked paring that with 6900xt. If you want a fair comparison, do this video again and put the resolution on 4k using DSR if your monitor doesn't support 4k and AMDs DSR that has a different name. Compare them there so you dont get cpu bottlenecked.
@@MRFRoZteRzespecially at 1080p
These games can be played on your phone. Test something that requires gpu power.
Me being gamer and using amd 6800xt so its seems i dont exist
I ran Nvidia for many, many years. And recently had a RTX 4060 which I sold with a PC. Now I have two PCs. One with RX 7800 XT and the other one with RX 7700 XT. Couldn't be happier. Nvidia is waaay overpriced. Oh, and I also like AMDs adrenalin software much better than Nvidias software. Only thing Nvidia has going for it is DLSS. I hope FSR4 will fix that. Not that FSR3 is horrible, but DLSS still has the edge there. And people with older Nvidia cards can thank AMD for getting upscaling and framegen.
I was using a used 2080 super until it took a shit on me last night so back to my trusty 5700 non xt. I like amd's software center better anyway.
