  • The tony maja drift spoon looked insane to me for people using it to catch stripers. I wanted to try it for monster redfish at the jetties. Once I got this thing in the mail it made me laugh because how big it was but then I got the chance to see what it could do...
These particular spoons seems like it's always out of stock so it make me believe its no really being made much anymore and thus you have to pay a $10-15 premium to get one.

To make it clear, I do not recommend the lure for jetty fishing, it's too expensive and does not cast well (that's not what it is made for). I was just hyped up to see it was at all possible.

Crazy to see how these reds will hit those monster lures. To me, it’s as if the 3oz spoon is like a finger mullet, and the footlong is like a horse mullet or ladyfish. Great content as always!

Down here in SWFL the bull reds can be seen chasing and eating speckled trout.... Makes sense that they like that spoon size. Regarding the cost, you should just make your own giant spoons! Very simple lure. I am sure you can find a sheet of metal and press or hammer it into shape, drill 2 holes, and you're almost done. You could make a dozen of them from a sheet of metal in a single afternoon.

@@evilpanther990 You better believe it! Next time you catch a sand trout (unregulated) try using it as a bait for bull reds. You will be amazed. ...Ever been to Sanibel pier around Christmas time at 1am when it is loaded up with teenagers fishing? Ever wonder how they all get such huge redfish for their social media photos? Their secret bait late at night when no one is paying attention are speckled trout. When they have the green light under the pier you can even see the reds chasing trout. We can't legally use one game fish to catch another game fish, but you better believe it.... Speckled trout makes great bull red bait.

A huge hello from Europe here in the Coast of Spain! Watched you working the big spoon, and I can tell you that where my brother lives ( on the south of Spain, where the Mediterranean lines up with the Atlantic just left of Portugal the sea bass and Corvina are huge!!! I'm 120% sure dude that this huge spoon would rip it up there!! Been living out here in Spain for the past 4 years now, coming from California where we lived basically our entire life.
As soon as I saw your video I had to share it with my brother! He'll love this huge spoon, his fishing 🎣 experience is rather extensive, he can basically out fish most pros out there...
In this very moment and time with the cold creeping in, huge sea bass and Corvina tend to hug the ports. Looking for easy meals...
We are talking fish that measure larger than my entire leg🦵 and I'm 5' 11"!!!
Thx for sharing the experience with that huge spoon!!

I've been using Nichols flutter spoons for several years here in South Texas. The 5" pulls amazingly shallow, even on the flats. I can keep my rod tip high and pull it in 18" of water or less. They have several sizes, but I mostly use the 5". Reds love it and it can be fluttered around the jetties for just about anything including giant specks. I'll have to try the Tony Maja. The only downside I see is the weight if you are doing cast and retrieve. Man, just throwing the 1oz Nichols 500 times in a day will wear you out.

It'll help your hook-up ratio if you attach a swivel to the top split ring and attach a (like 2/0) treble hook to that. You can also use those single/tandem jig assist hooks that come with a short leader. Increasing the size of the treble at the bottom can help with hook-ups as well.
As for casting distance, I can't help you. I'm 1000 miles from the nearest ocean. But, the extra hardware will give it a tiny bit more weight. 🤷‍♂️

Dude, such a good idea! 3 lb largemouth chew em, I'm surprised you're letting the cat out of the bag! 30 lbs isn't a big one? You got some good water. I landed the Florida State Record in the early 90s around 60 lbs at Sebastian Inlet. Game warden was right there to tell me, and to quickly get it back in the water. Alot was 18 to 27 in back then. Been in Massachusetts for 25 years so it's Striper and large mouth now!
