    I have to say that Ace is the king of procrastinators, he can get really good grades if he tries but decides not to. Also, every time one of his schemes or lies fails he does not bother himself with trying to salvage it, he just straight up admits it. He is so funny

    • @sylvernoct
      @sylvernoct  День тому +9

      Exactly~ He moves on so quickly each time too as if nothing ever happened, which is hilarious, but no introspection at all ._.

      He's as bad as Floyd in the 2nd years. The only difference between them is that Floyd actually as the strength to scare other "insecure, tactless, uncooperative boneheads" into submission.

      My favorite nickname for him is “future dropout” because of how often he looks to swindle people or shirk proper work/class. Ace represents the exact type of boy I willingly went to private high school to get away from. And as most adults know, higher education is not the only way to a successful career path.

    You also have to understand that Sebek is insecure about being half-Fae and Have to look deeper with Ace, because I can tell they're afraid of being their true-self and don't want to be abandoned.

    • @sylvernoct
      @sylvernoct  День тому +11

      True, both of them have way more depth than what can be seen on the surface, but those insecurities don't necessarily excuse their actions (or lack of action). I think they're quite complex characters overall and I'm so glad Sebek has been getting more screentime and is getting fleshed out better~

    • @AnaxErik4ever
      @AnaxErik4ever День тому +4

      I wish Sebek would shut his mouth long enough for true self-reflection. He is a decent person if only he would have the capacity for thoughts NOT about Malleus. I'm so glad Chapter 7 is disillusioning Sebek to this fact, something about "never meeting your heroes" and "Every saint has a past, every sinner a future."

  • @Onest00p1d_vampire
    @Onest00p1d_vampire День тому +14

    I will admit, if there is a subject that Sebek struggles with, it's the arts. He fares A LOT better with more logical and practical studies like math also GOOD LORD! HIS DORM CARD AND SILVERS CARRIED ME THROUGHOUT BOOK 7! Not to mention the way he gives puppy eyes is just adorable and I had the WORST case of cuteness aggression when he called his squirrel plushie a "squirshie".
    Also, Ortho is DEFINITELY a good choice for best boi but all of them are pretty good picks in their own right

    • @sylvernoct
      @sylvernoct  День тому +5

      The squirshie!! Yes! That also played a huge role in turning around my opinion of Sebek tbh~ They're all such wonderful characters it was very hard to pick

    Book 7 actually warmed me up to Sebek a bit. Sure he's loud enough to burst my eardrums, but I warmed up to him. He seems like he may be insecure about being half-fae and doesn't know how to handle that. While I do think that being around his grandfather Baur had him see the way his maternal grandfather acts which would cause him to maybe emulate it. Children are impressionable when young so Sebek would theoretically see his grandfather act the way that he does and emulate it to a point. I'm not blaming Baur for this at all, he had every right to have the thought process that he had in the past because of what we know from Book 7 and as long as it seems like Baur isn't outright terrible to his three grandchildren then I'm fine with that. Sebek really does need to get out more though. I think that Harveston was a good start to that and even with Glorious Masquerade he got to see more of what the world is like outside of Briar Valley. Vargas Camp really is an introduction to Sebek in a way, showing his arrogant side but he is I think that broadening Sebek's horizons would be good for him, as well as interacting with other people around his age since as far as we know he only really interacted with his family, Silver, Lilia, and Malleus. It's why I like seeing him interact with other characters like with Vil for example in his New Years Vigentte. I think that Sebek would actually gain a lot from interacting with others and learning different perspectives from them and learning more about the world. It's just a matter of if Sebek is too stubborn or not to want to learn more from social experiences outside of Silver, Lilia, and Malleus.

    • @sylvernoct
      @sylvernoct  День тому +3

      Ah yeah those are all solid points~ I agree with you that he was absolutely picking up on Baur's attitude and while Baur has been good to his grandkids I think they know his feelings about their parents and that can be difficult for kids. I also think that Sebek wanting to become one of the royal guards could have also made him insecure. I imagine a lot of the fae folks on the guard are looking down on him and his dreams because of his half-fae nature, or perhaps even just joking that Sebek's only close to Malleus because of his grandfather. I'm sure there's more than one reason for his stubbornness, but he still needs to figure out a way to temper that a bit. Hopefully all the little interactions he gets at NRC can help him grow~ And all the ones you brought up have seem to have done him a bit of good!

    I understand what you're saying about Ace, but I find his bluntness refreshing. I tend to enjoy a small level of a-holeness and Ace is under my limit. Plus in my mind he makes up for it by being a ride or die friend who has Yuu's back when they need it. Ace is bestie to me and I love him ❤

    I have to say, of the first years, Ace is my favorite, but I do acknowledge he's an acquired taste. I love how blunt he is and I don't hear his situational awareness talked about enough (thanks for including it). He's an asshole, but I love him for it. My bias aside, my vote would probably go to Epel or Deuce for best freshman.

    • @sylvernoct
      @sylvernoct  50 хвилин тому

      True, Ace is way more than the blunt cocky guy. He really does have some good qualities but they can be easily overshadowed if you're not looking closely enough. Good alternate picks~! It seems like Epel and Deuce are crowd favorites, at least so far haha

  • @sorcerersapprentice

    Honestly, it's a toss up between Jack and Deuce for me. Although, I wish the game did more with Jack, though. Epel is up there too, but while I like his arc, I still think his views doing a complete 180 in a single afternoon is a bit silly.

      I think he did too, in the previous book 7 update. He's ridiculously motivated and does a good job practicing, at least if whatever he's doing/learning can somehow be related to Malleus or aid Malleus.

    ace will always be my favourite because of all the contradictions that makes up his character. hes smart and has a lot of potential where notable characters like vil and riddle also commented on but doesnt tap into it, he cares deeply and worries for those he care about but always keeps them at arms lenght from getting too close to him. unlike deuce who was comfortable enough to opening up to prefect about his past (something that hes not proud of), ace avoids anything that puts him in a place where he would be vulnerable and hes always deflecting when people call him out on his sincere moments (worrying over yuu, giving his card to the kid in his platinum suit vignette)
    and i think its the potential that he has just waiting to be explored that makes me like him even more because as many people have been saying hes one of the earliest characters to be introduced and is kinda part of the main cast with grim yuu and deuce. but unlike deuce who has not only gotten significant growth but also an unique magic, ace is kinda lacking in that development so and im just invested in seeing what the team has in store for him. but thats just my bias speaking now
    im biased but its the balance of how we know so much about him with him being so open but also nothing much about him with him hiding how he feels that really gets me. this cheeky boy LET ME KNOW MORE ABOUT YOU

    It's a toss up between Epel and Deuce for me. Yes, Ortho is counted as a first year now, but he still technically has 2.5 years of experience (and infinitely more intelligence with a supercomputer for a brain) on all the others. Just like Yuu and Grim, Ortho is/was counted as 1 student alongside Idia, being his Emotional Support Android (ESA). This is why the 3rd game anniversary was celebrated with 9 third year students instead of 8: Ortho had not yet gained individual autonomy and permanent identity until after Idia's welcoming death and being sent back to the living by Ortho's spirit.

    • @sylvernoct
      @sylvernoct  День тому +2

      Fair picks~ Both Deuce and Epel are very fun indeed! I included Ortho here since he is, technically a freshman even though he's been at the school longer. He's had more time to observe, and having the internet is an unfair advantage, which is why I scored his emotional learning instead to balance things out, or at least that was my intention~
      That's interesting about the cards though! I always thought Ortho wasn't included in freshman card so as to not spoil the events of book 6, since it took a long time for us to get to that point and story wise he wasn't a student yet so it would have raised red flags for him to be included. Seeing him with Idia is basically a given (ESA) so the 3rd anniversary card wouldn't feel out of place (I have no idea if book 6 was out in JP by that time or not lol).

    • @AnaxErik4ever
      @AnaxErik4ever День тому

      @@sylvernoct All of the main story was being drip-fed in parts to the JPN community in the nearly two years English speaking fans had to wait to play with translated events. ENG got a flood of content in the first 1.5 years because of up to Ch 6 being released in JPN. In April 2022, which was when Ch 6 officially finished for JPN, Ortho's status was changed from 3rd year (w/ Idia) to an individual 1st year. He has to play catch-up with a lot of social-emotional intelligence, despite the marked advantage he has in academic intelligence, which balances Ortho out quite well. Hence why he was able to be fooled by Fellow Honest/Ernesto: the bio-medical signs, which Fellow Honest would have spent decades on the streets learning to hide, were enough to show "the closest thing to a real living puppet" he was telling the truth.

      I have liked Ortho and Idia a lot since the beginning. Despite their long cyber-crime/privacy violation rap sheets, they are endearing as a bonded pair… and it took until Ch 6 for me to officially tell if Ortho was a cyborg or an android. It’s so sad, and also funny, when you find out about “manufacturing your own unhealthy coping mechanism”, literally.

    In my very biased opinion, grim one hundred and one percent! He's fluffy and cute and sweet! Horrid student, but that ain't my problem lolol. He earns all the brownies points! Best student would probably be jack, but my fav will always be grim! I used to not like him that much, but book six really was the nail in the coffin to make him my number one favorite. So again, in my biased stance, grim wins, he wins all the tuna. Anyway, amazing video as always! And please remember to drink some water!

      He may be a pain in the butt, and shares a brain cell with either Ace or Kalim at any given time…but as the story progresses, he comes to accept Yuu/the player as his friend and partner in magic shenanigans. Hard not to like the gluttonous little furball , at least a little, especially after Ch 6.

    Unpopular Opinion: Am I the only one that doesn't like Ortho as a character? He's just a prop for Idia's character to me. He has almost no personality other than being the typical child character you would find in any JRPG and being overly concerned/defensive about his brother. I kinda wish he was more like Claudia from The Interview With The Vampire or Al from FMA where he's still technically alive, but Idia stuffed his soul inside of the robot, so that way he can have an actual personality. Hell, his goal could be to get his body back, but in darker ways. As is, he's just wasted potential. (Obviously, if you like him to each is their own, those are just my honest thoughts on the matter.)

    • @sylvernoct
      @sylvernoct  День тому +2

      I think that's very valid and I can totally see where you're coming from. Tbh I didn't like Ortho very much until recently and I'm honestly not entirely sure when or why my attitude shifted, but I agree that they could utilize him better in the story for sure. He mainly gets used as a pawn to get Idia into situations without really adding much of his own flair, which is annoying.

    • @magicvalgirl

      Understandable. I'm a huge fan of sibling dynamics, but Ortho doesn't always click for me. He can be unintentionally chaotic and funny, but some of that comes with the baggage of Idia's more interesting character. Hopefully they manage to experiment with Ortho more in the future.

    • @AnaxErik4ever

      I like Ortho as a character. His personality is different enough from Idia’s that he stands out even before he gains individual autonomy.
