I feel so lucky to have been in New York when the 1980s began...and to stay through the decade. This is the "juice" of the city, the energy in all of our steps. It cut across color and country and language. It was New York, and we all partied to it. What an incredible time - and place - to have had the privilege of living in. Thanks forever, 98.7 Kiss...
Without a doubt I have the same testimony and gratitude the 80s is indescribable you had to be there. Just walking the streets catching the trains goin to the city mid town Times Square Central Park grub spots the stores etc etc not only that but the impact NY had on the world even those that never been there, talking bout powerful smh💪🏽
You are.lucky. Fantastic ans crazy eighties. Soul. Funky. Groocy...

I honestly think I'd be happy living in a cardboard box in NYC during this time. LOL I'd never stay at home.
How TF did life get so bad??? Corrupt peeps controlling us and we stand for it!! Fake virus, fake leaders and fake Govt!!! These were the days!
Lower Eastside @ 112st and Park Ave.
oh man takes me back when I was growing up in Bed Stuy, and visiting family in Bushwick, Williamsburg, Greenpoint
The best music ever! As I live in Sweden, I put my hope too friends who went over to USA and made them record some of these radio stations. This was in -88 -89 -90.
You can just guess how happy I was when I got my hands on those cassettes... I was in heaven!!!
Sorry to say, NO ONE MAKES MUSIC LIKE THIS ANY MORE...
Wow I would have been so impatient!!!!!!!!!!!! I was a kid in those days and used to love waiting for evening/late radio to make tapes!!!
Wow! My dad played this music all the time in the late 80's. Brings back some nostalgia!
I'm 32 years old, but these musics make me shiver inside. Old school is always the best.

80's was the best music..
this music will NEVER EVER die
There will never ever be a time like that again NYC!!!! The club's,the radio,it was a unbelievable time. Also when KISS first came on the air, they were kicking ass and taking no prisoners.
Can't believe that this is almost 40 years old! Seems like just yesterday. Boy does time fly.
I’m 18 but I love this music 💛💛
Então , seja bem vinda !!!
This is music...Boggie Down Bronx all day everyday . TBB for life.
Reminds of me when I was a kid growing up in Jersey City, NJ and you could turn on WBLS, KiSS or KTU and always hear good music! Great memories!
J.C. STAND UP!!!
🙏🏾👊🏾💪🏾🫶🏾✌🏾
I was only 3 yrs old in 1981 but man oh man do I miss the 80's and 90's...those were the times growing up in Newark, NJ listening to these classics....brings back alotta memories :)....nothing will ever compare to these classics and I would rather listen 2 old school music than listening to the garbage that's out now lol
Ever eat at Hobbies?
Shep Pettibone one of the best DJ of all time. Back when us DJ's use vinyl and it was a real art. When people use the brain not a a laptop.
Hell yeah all us old school DJ's made spinning vinyl and Art, all special effects like phazing was done by hand not some special effects rack.
You so so right i hate seeing djs using that dam lap top to dj
Love this.I grew up in south western Connecticut. So I had 92.3 WKTU 98.7 Kiss And 107.5 WBLS on my box.I cant tell you how many Saturday nights I spent taping the Mastermix from 1980 to 1983 when I was in high school.Great memories.
+mark smith I wish i had known about those great stations as a kid, for some reason I only listened to KC 101.
I used to listen to KISS on Saturday nights . I still have old cassette tapes from '84 -87 that have the Mastermix and DJ Red Alert . This was radio at it's best !!!!!!
Now that's wassup! Grew up in Freeport LI, I learned how to dance off this music!, hanging out at the block parties, Centennial Park!, the DJ's new just what to play. Aaaaah how I miss those times. .. this music will always n forever be classical.
Hey Neighbor I too grew up in Freeport on Independence Ave. Good times!!!
36 people gave this a thumbs down. I can't understand why. the dj is on point. the music does not sound like gay porn music and they actually play instruments. had be a racist or some punk kids that think the only way make a good song is to cuss up a storm
Crazy How you listen to a track and it immediately puts you in time and place that you would have never remembered had it been for the song.
Moved to VA 1975...I was nine. Came back to N. Babylon every summer until my senior year. Such incredible memories.
I WAS 9 ROCKIN' OUT TO THESE JAMS..NEVER KNOWING THE CLUB SCENE WAS ALREADY ON AND CRAKIN' DURING THAT ERA...
Connecticut listeners of 98.7 Kiss fm is gonna miss you and the music you brought into our lives.
I REMEMBER I USE TO FALL ASLEEP WITH THE RADIO ON AND IT WAS ALWAYS TUNED TO 98.7 KISS UNTIL 4 IN THE MORNING AT THE TIME I WAS AT THE START OF MY MUSIC CAREER NOW 30 YEARS LATER I STILL GET CHILLS LISTENIING TO THESE CLASSIC BROASCAST.
I WANT TO THANK KISS FM FOR ALL THEIR YEARS OF GREAT ACHIEVEMENT. I'VE LISTENED TO KISS ALL MY LIFE. THERE'S NO REPLACEMENT YOU'LL WILL BE MISSED BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN "98.7 KISS FM WRKS FM NEW YORK"!. R.I.P.
My gosh...the first song almost made me cry, I was such a fan of soul music and house music. Still am. I remember John Robinson, Glenn Fischer, Hiscurelli, the list goes on
I started recording these mixes before I left BKLYN to see the world (NAVY). Had about 40 cassettes (TDK SA-90's) to keep BKLYN nearby. Imagine my surprise when I went to play one all I got was jumbled warbles. . . . . Damn metal detector demagged ALL 40 TAPES !! NEVER WILL I GET TO RELIVE THE DAYS . . .
When KISS died,a part of me left also.NYC radio is crap.Thank god for the internet.
We still have WBLS!
WBLS is not like it used to be.
Man I miss this type of music in NYC man the 80's was so fun Graffiti, break dancing, rent parties etc...
Wow!!! So many jams came out when I was young and learning....I miss those days when music was real, sung by singers who cared about what they did and just had fun!!!
I remember my mom listening to Kiss FM around the house circa '80-81, especially on friday and saturday nights! I vividly remember that they played that song "Double Dutch Bus" constantly and they had a station commercial that had the tag line "The Wabbit kicked the bucket! The Wabbit kicked the bucket!!- I guess something like that would resonate in my 5 year old mind...
I wish i could drift back into these days. Music calms the soul. These days were great. I remember jamming to these mixes and cleaning the house so when grandma came home i could go outside with my boom box and my newly taped master mix from the day before!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
dang I miss kiss FM sooo much
This is amazing! I was 16 in 1981 and could not wait to go to a club.
Best radio station ever.
I'm with you I felt like a family member just died when i heard the news. I don't know about you but i was there from the beginning. Will never forget because KISS 98.7 FM is what made me the person that I am. the music and the air personell i will carry them till the day I die.will never forget the Mastermixes Shep Pettibone, Latin Rascals, Tony Humphries, and the beginning of Hip Hop with Red Alert and Chuck Chillout every friday and saturday night. The music they played back then was music!!!
The Club Scene In New York Wow!!!! Bonds,The Loft, 99 Hudson,Fun House, Roseland and The King Of Them All The Paradise Garage!!!!
Stay on the dance floor...
Oh yes!!!!
Roseland was gigantic. The Palladium was also large
Yes.
Pegasus and Bentley's too everybody was jamming on the floor one love
Lived this in 81 when I was In college. A treasure found again. 98.7 KISS so missed!!!!!
Ahhhhh, the memories live on; Don’t stop the music!
superbe tribute a la disco funk !!!
That hurt's my heart!!!They need to conduct business like they use to do. It's wasn't about a #1 record!! All about the radio station and how presented themselves to the communities. made you proud to be a part of NY!
Truly :)
miss them. never be the same now that they're gone..
Ahh I remember John Jelly Bean Benitez! from 92.2 WKTU!
Those days in New York where Hip Hop was Exploding!
wow
W K T U 92 F M LLOLOLOL
John Wayne ..I remember Jellybean from the Funhouse; one of the best DJ’s from NY.
I remember the Mexican by jellybean still listen to it now original by babe Ruth check it out if you don't know it
I left NYC in 89 and I miss the mastermixes and the Friday and Saturday night mix shows. Cuck Chillout was my favorite. The Dancehall show was my favorite source for reggae and I found the west coast didn't have anything to fill the void. The internet can't even compare because not everyone is gonna convert their tapes to UA-cam. But at least UA-cam has people who want this stuff to live on.
Oh, how I miss Kiss 98.7 FM...I was born and raised in NYC...I moved to the west coast many years ago...Go online and Listen to Power 88.1 FM on Tuesdays, all day, it's called "Take Me Back Tuesdays" and Thursdays, all day, it's called "Classic Thursdays", this radio station has such an affinity to Kiss 98.7 FM during those two days of the week...and that is simply because most of their radio jockeys and DJs are from NYC...it's no wonder it's so damn good to listen
I play these jams at my auto detail shop and my customers are always bobbing their heads when they walk in. The crew also loves it. Thanks for the memories.
If this mix were 10 hours, I'd sit and listen to every second...
I miss these days
Hate getting old. Miss the GREAT old days, listing to Kiss and BLS with Frankie and of coarse KTU Paco /Joe Causi. Great roller skating music (Empire, USA Skates and Roller Palace.
dont think Joe was playing then
are you talking Koe Cuasell?
joe. no koe
Brooklyn Trading Group yup
Brooklyn Trading Group I miss KISS FM👄💋💋
Memories - visiting family in Brooklyn from London. Kiss FM and WBLS were the soundtrack of my visits.
Wow..it was nice to listen to this music again...it's like visiting an old friend!
these were the times when you asked a girl to dance and she replied...sure! this is whats missing from the clubs these days
That's REAL!
The same with asking a dude to dance was the same...
I kinda miss those days personally.
Although nowadays if I'm Feelng the music "I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM DANCING BY MY LONESOME!"
respect in those days!
So true. Now they are on their phones in clubs the whole time.
Maybe girls don't want to dance with all of y'all old creeps lmao
I GREW UP IN TOMS RIVER TO THE GROOVE OF 98.7 KISS FM, THOSE WERE THE DAYS!!!!!!!!!!. KISS, THANKS FOR THE GREAT REMIXES, MUSIC, AND MEMORIES. R.I.P. KISS FM, TOMS RIVER MAY BE A SUBURB OF THE FIVE BOROUGHS, BUT WE'RE STILL FAMILY, ESPECIALLY, AFTER HURRICANE SANDY, WE ARE ONE AND TOGETHER WE CAN DO ANYTHING. GOD BLESS, GOOD BYE AND LIVE FOREVER KISS FM!/

Born and Raised in East Harlem.Great Memories
Why oh why did KISS FM go away?! I know they changed to old school later on but it was still great music. Now the station is in radio heaven. I will always treasure the mix tapes I have of music from 98.7 in the 90's..
Le funk de mes années 80. Que demande le peuple? rien. Danser et écouter du funk, rien que du funk, ma musique de prédilection depuis 1981.
I have to express my opinion on what a thievery of an act that was done to us here in New York. our beloved 98.7 Kiss fm was taken from us. After 31 years on the air and I grew up listening to one of the greatest radio stations new york ever had was just taken from us. It's like taking a baby from her mother. i remember the days of Shep Pettibone Tony Humpries, The birth of Hip Hop with Red Alert and Chuck Chill out on the turntables every friday night and saturday nights. RIP KISS 98.7 fm!
All we need is a old school kid capri mix tape now...
Awesome beat , from philly city of brotherly love sho nuff , you got that right yes yes ineed 😊😊😊😊😊
98.7 kiss fm the best radio planet earth had ever seen

The tunnel Limelight the underground red zone ....
I WISHED I HAD THOSE MIXES STILL. NEVER MISSED A MASTERMIX. SHEP PETTIBONE & TONY HUMPHRIES KILLED IT. SOMETIME THEY PLAYED TOGETHER.....

98.7 Kiss is now a talk radio station for ESPN. Some DJs went to WBLS, others out of work. RIP Kiss FM (Red Alert, Prince Messiah, Chuck Chillout, Latin Rascals, Jungle Brothers, etc...)

Wow!! How I remember this all as a kid. Gr8 memories!!!
I remember this radio broadcast. Just 19 yes old and enjoying life at that time.
Going to give you the scoop on what's happening here in New York since my beloved Kiss 98.7 Fm has gone off the air. WBLS 107.5 calls all the shots. It's not really the same because I loved KISS 98.7 Fm. I listened to KISS from the beginning and sadly to say till the end. Well WBLS has kept their word in keeping the memory of KISS alive. This past labor day weekend they had all the dee-jays on the air Kool Dj Red Alert,Chuck Chillout,Antwon Qua,It was a Master mix weekend here but not the same!
Hey what's up Bro! I'm from long island too. Those moments I spent listening to those 2 giants I will take to my grave. I first started listening to 92.3 KTU in 1978 and was torn when I found out they were going of the air. But not realizing there was a Great radio station 98.7 KISS FM was being born, who knew this was going to last for 31 years even though I wish we still had it on the air. I am glad to have lived in that era because these young people don't know what good music is. The 80's#1
I think the best part of this music is it transcended all racial boundaries. I mean I'm white but my best friend and brother was black. We were both DJs back then and we saw everybody getting into these tracks. Miss you Rob (Spingali!!!l
Radio was TOPS then. Every Friday and Saturday night HOURS of commercial free jams Getting ready to go out to the clubs GREAT!!!! Thanks for posting this!!!
ohhhh shitt!!! Classic New York
Man....i really enjoy this music! Long live great music that makes us get up and shake our butts!!!
heureuse d'avoir retrouvé cette musique que de bon souvenirs merci
This is the days of TRUE Radio across AMERICA.NYC had some the best radio stations in AMERICA during these days of GLORY R&B and HIP HOP.thank you 81funkateer for this upload. It bring back many great memories of the 80's.
I missed that station a lot. It's been a great run for 31 years, from the day it came on the air until the very end. Very sad to see the station go. "Kiss-FM" would never be the same.
Very good example of radio mastermix from NYC. Remember we had the famous Radio Luxembourg in Europe in the 1980s. It transmitted on 1440 kHz medium wave (very popular!) and it was the most powerful radio station in Western Europe then.
Memories.
Born and raised Harlem,NY April / 69.. Classics !! 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 👍 👍 👍 👍 Hoooooome !! ( E.T. voice 😂 )
Those were the good o days of dance music. Shep Pettibone was the brains behind those mixes. Right on Shep.
Those was the best of times!
I love these energy tempos.
I had just graduated high school.. The music was out of this World and way ahead of it's time. Shalamar, "Do Me Right Baby" Yeeeessssss!
Hadn't heard that Dynasty in years amazing memories from 1981 I was a 16 year old kid and the world was a much better place than it is now...
This has me reliving some really nice Summer nights back in the day. God, I miss when radio was like this all the time.
MOMENTOS LINDOS E ETERNOS EU CURTI MUITO ESSA ÉPOCA E SINTO SAUDADES
Between kiss fm and wbls, it was the best!!! Shout out to my boogie down bronx peeps👍
That brought back memories! 1981 was a great time to be listening to 98.7 Kiss, WBLS, or 92KTU.
