Few people knew that 98.7 WRKS FM used to be 99 WXLO FM back in late 1979... Chef Pettibone mixes With Mary Thomas, Yvonne Mobley, Sergio Dean and the gang! Those were the days, but WRKS's real hey days were from 82-86... Always comp'n with 92 WKTU, and the one and only 107.5 WBLS... Great times.
What in Gods Earth did you think you were going to accomplish when you took my beloved 98.7 KISS FM away from us here in New York? Now whats left for us who grew up listening to the BEST radio station that ever existed. You trying to tell us that by merging together its going to make a difference and make it stronger? well NO because It's always going to be WBLS and their format. Barry Mayo who worked for KISS when it first started and became G.M took KISS TO #1. We need a Station for the people
Late 70's and early 80s kiss and wbls in new York rocked the house. Where has all this music gone. Good thing it is available for everybody to enjoy it here on the tube.
@@OldSchool845 , as it should be. I recently read an article about how it all went wrong. It left me wondering what could have been done to save the station without totally selling out.
If im not mistaking the female disk jockey at 11:53 is Ivonne Mobley. She was at kiss during the early 80's if i'm not mistaken. Late 70's and the 80s the best time for music.
I came home from Germany to New York on leave 80-83, recorded my azz off. I finally converted over 100 cassettes to mp3 for my itunes, but it was worth it, WBLS, WRKS, WKTU all master mixes, all gold.
A TIME IN LIFE WHEN NYC HELD SUBSTANCE & A STRONG FOUNDATION 4 MUSIC... SORRY TO HEAR THAT 98.7 KISS FM WILL NO LONGER HAVE ITS NAME... THIS STA IS BEING PULLED...GOOD MUSIC & WHAT MANY ARE NOT AWARE OF IS THE POLITICAL VOICES OF "OPEN LINE" BOB SLADE, MTUME & THE CREW...ALONG W MICHAEL BAISDEN & REV AL SHARPTON WILL NO LONGER HAVE THAT VOICE FOR THOSE OF COLOR...A HUGE MOVEMENT IS IN THE MAKING POLITICAL BIG BROTHER... & ITS NOT FOR THE BETTER.. WE NEW YORKERS WILL MISS THIS STA.. BIG TIME.
What a great time to be growing up in NYC 1981. I was only 11 but I remember like it was yesterday. There was a certain feeling of excitement of living during that and you can feel it in the music.

1980's.
hot cuisine WHO'S BEEN KISSING YOU.
I totally forgot about that song.
The best time of my life... Turn 15 in June 1981... Sweet memories 🥰
💯💯There was so much great music released during the Summer of 1981....almost as great as 1984
thank you so much for posting this! it's a wonderful audio snapshot of great era in music
I thought Who's Been Kissing You was a 1983 hit. 1981 makes better sense since the song has a little bit of that tail end disco beat.
Different times :(
i love kiss fm, marcelo from brazil
Depois do Marcelo maia e André Werneck no celebration essa foi os mix mais maravilhoso que já ouvi ...

Boa entrada , brabissima !!!

The mixing is a little sloppy. Therefore, I don't think this is Shep Pettibone.
Really? I think she did a great job. Much harder back then to be in the mix.
