    Lyrics:
What in the world's come all over me?
I ain't got a chance of one in three
Ain't got no rap, ain't got no line
But if you'll give me just a minute I'll be feeling fine
I am the one who can fade the heat
The one they all say just can't be beat
I'll shoot it to you straight and look you in the eye
So gimme just a minute and I'll tell you why
    I'm a rough boy, I'm a rough boy
I don't care how you look at me
Because I'm the one and you will see
We can make it work, we can make it by
So give me one more minute and I'll tell you why
    I'm a rough boy, I'm a rough boy

My mother used to request this for my birthday on the radio. I lost her a few days ago. I'm gonna have this song playing at her and eventually, my funeral like the momma's boy I am. Love you mom, and I know we'll see each other one day.

I'm sorry for your lost brother. Life's full of soft n hard lessons. I don't know if you seek God or not, I did and I'm no poster child for Christianity, but what I can tell you is the journey was worth it and today I celebrate there passing because I know exactly where they are and where I'm going. All you have to do is believe and do your best everyday and repent. Colossians 2 and 15 I believe or a few paragraphs of there. I live by the Cross and the blood of the lamb Jesus Christ who died for our sins etc.

We, along with legions of ZZ Top fans around the world, will miss your steadfast presence, your good nature and enduring commitment to providing that monumental bottom to the ‘Top'. My dad was a huge ZZ Top and CCR fan so when he passed away a week ago today we couldn’t think of any other music he’d rather have played. We had songs playing quietly during the entire visitation. When everyone had left I went to use the restroom that happened to be near a balcony overlooking the viewing area. I saw them preparing to close the casket so I decided to stay til the very end. This is the song that was playing so it will forever be etched on my heart but will always have a different meaning.

Damn what a song. Fell in love with this song tonight. Me and my dad laughed about how I refused go put this song on all night. A memory was created tonight with my dad. When we wake up in the morning with hangovers we will both be feeling like rough boys.

Afterburner was a formative part of my childhood in the 80's. I had that shit on cassette, yo. Me and my buddy Tom would cruise the hills and back roads of Mississippi in his old Buick, jamming it out into the night. I got to see them play live down in Southaven a couple of years ago during my A/V Guy gigging. Good shit. Even at the age they were, they went on stage in full outfits and blew the doors off.
Mind you, when they were done they literally walked off stage and immediately strapped on oxygen masks because c'mon man they were in their 70's and it was hot as fuck in Southaven. But it was awesome and I wished Tom was there but like so many others he had passed years before.
    So it goes.
But the music remains, and the memories, and the fleeting joy of flying smooth and unencumbered through a warm Mississippi evening blasting "Rough Boy" and speculating about the future...
