You forgot an important detail : The Halloween Update of 2011 that added Eve, Sheol and most Devil Deal items

Oh yes, you had to have been there for the Halloween update. It was the first update to add new achievements to the game.
Then there was the Xmas update which added Krampus and the Lump of Coal to the game, referencing the Steam Xmas event happening at the time where Valve made everyone trade lumps of coal.

I got into Isaac around the time of Afterbirth+ being added, so I had no idea about that Keeper thing, jesus
A brilliantly complex scheme, no? Makes one almost jealous...
The Lost was supposed to be a giant community-wide puzzle as well, but got spoiled by dataminers. Ed was understandably bitter about it, and started putting 109s everywhere in Afterbirth, and then cranked it up to eleven for Keeper when he realized hiding stuff in the game's code was no longer safe

I played Isaac since the beginning and had no idea about the Keeper as well..
I was hoping you'd go over more in detail the time surrounding the Afterbirth+ release and how it and Antibirth were in a way splitting the community, as many (myself included) actually preferred playing Antibirth over the official content, as Afterbirth+ had a TON of problems upon release. Antibirth wasn't just any old fan mod, either, what set it apart was the sheer amount of content that pretty much seamlessly fit in with base Rebirth, unlike other popular expansions like God Mode at the time (which I still hate). Pretty much every Antibirth mechanic and addition made sense, and was balanced almost perfectly with the playstyle of Rebirth. And then when Edmund commended the makers of the mod and eventually announced it would be getting added in as actual content, the fanbase was reunited once more. Truly a wonderful time.

I would also like to add how still to this day afterbirth+ has mixed steam reviews as well as the delirium fight still being a glitchy mess among other issues still prevalent to this day. Hasn't stopped me from putting in 40 or so hours into the game since quarantine has started.
I way rather antibirth to ab+, but playing without mods is a deal breaker. Especially since revelations is a thing now..
Post-repentance updates are confirmed to be fixing things like delirium, etc.
This is still the only game I've ever had the patience and dedication to 100% (at least for the first save file), I'm still working on 3000000% but almost 900 hours of playtime later I'm still playing the game just because i enjoy it so much

The Binding of Isaac and Enter the Gungeon are the only games I ever 100%. The weird part was I didn’t even know I 100% both games because there are so many random and secret mechanics and just because I would stay up so late playing I just found so many secrets.
try dishonored. this was the first game i had to pixelperfect everything just because you are really free to try everything

i genuenly didnt know that antibirth beeing added into the game had a different name... i thought they would just stick to the name antibirth... oh well repentence works too i guess^^ abyways im glad that they will ad the antibirth content into the game. they spoke about it a lot so i expected them to at least try it.
This game will always be up there in my favorite games list.
With how people seem to hate the Keeper and the prevlance of 109 in the ARG, part of me wonders if the entire ARG was created with the specific goal of getting back at the dataminers that figured out the unlock method for the lost with a game they can't dive into the code for that ultimately leads to an unpopular character to play. Not that I could blame them, I'd be pissed too if I created a very intricate puzzle for the community to work together to figure out only for some to essentially 'cheat' and pull the answers out of the code instead of how it was intended.
That was the reason Keeper was so complicated. And he wasn't in the game for miners to find until the puzzle was done. The Skinned Hush, Data Miner item, and others are references to that original Lost situation as well.
^ that exactly. Skinless hush was a red herring in the files for dataminers and the keeper was kept out of the game so he couldn’t be datamined

Now this gives me memories about how i would binge watch Hutts playing this game and then finally i got to the game when rebirth was around, from the first time playing TBOI to now all that time and money that i put into the game i've now got 100,000,000% and finished the game, this really made my day, Thank You And You Got A New Subscriber! You forgot about mentioning the fact that on May 05, 2015, the original TBoI got a DLC called Eternal Edition which added Hard Mode and some other stuff.
Olexa perhaps didn't mention it since it's more of a branch from what's been "the old version of the game" at that point, rather than an update on the latest iteration.
Nonetheless I think it would have been worth mentioning it.
If nothing else, it shows the generous dedication of the team behind it (in this case predominantly Florian).
Also, it would have been interesting trivia, and was also mentioned as part of an Afterbirth dev log.

I loved this video! Hearing the songs of the original game and seeing all these events is so nostalgic and I cant wait to see what they do on Repentance! Isaac is definetely my favorite game and that final message at the end of the video was really nice :)
This just popped up in my feed and as a relatively new Isaac player (~4-5 months) it’s really interesting to hear about the history of the game. I’ve come to really enjoy the game and I honestly have to thank you, Olexa, for introducing me to it!
I started playing Isaac when I was 13 back in 2014. Today I'm still playing it on switch and pc with around 1000 hrs summarized and I am still loving it. This video again showed what kind of masterpiece this is. To put it into words how much I love this game and how much it means to me I could go on for days.

It's such an amazing game. I got it some years ago, when it was free on psn and I didn't know this game before. But it is one of my favorite games for over years now.

I remember getting Tboi a few years back in 2016, I died horribly on my first run and got discouraged but come now, I’ve 3,000,000% the game and I’m looking forward to any new content to take on.

I play since wrath of the lamb so i somehow grew up with this game but my pc broke in september and i have been disconected and had no idee about repentance. That is so cool

It would have been interesting to hear about the biblical background of most of the characters since pretty much everybody has abilities related to their biblical reference character. Great video nontheless!!
For the most part, those references are in the wiki, even tiny stuff like Judas starting with 3 coins. But I do agree it would make for a cool video

I do ńot have much time for games, and yet I've played about 400 hours of Isaac on my 3ds, bought Switch especially to play with all the dlc, about 200 hours in. One of the best games ever made. This video was very interesting to watch!

Holy shit i didn´t know about the crazy easter egg hunt they did, that´s amazing, now i love the game and Edmund even more!
I grew up with a SNES and never stopped gaming since then, but I can say without esitation that Isaac is my favourite game ever.
Also, it’s the game I’m the best at.
The most unique part of isaac that I think made it so sucessful is the items. Most of them are refrences, jokes, obscure biblical things, etc. They make the game so unique compared to other roguelikes, and emphisises the indie flare. Seriously, just look at the trivia section in the BOI Wiki for anything, it's really interesting.
Id say that Isaac, Gungeon, and Spelunky all capture the secrets, trivia, and fun facts really well. Tbh Gungeon probably moreso than Isaac. It’s unreal the number of references in there

3:20 i Just unlocked the lost yesterday! It took me 2 YEARS to finally get a missing poster! :D but in the end i did it :D
I first came in touch with the game in 2012 I was at a friend and he showed it to me. He killed mom and I was his co pilot. Back then I was too bad for the game. Wich is why I never played it myself. But I always had an eye on the game watched videos about it and so forth. I forgot a little bit about the game played other stuff but last week I suddenly remembered about isaac and got instantly hooked. Played it every day this week. I'm so hyped discovering all the new stuff I didn't knew before.

I love the biblical references you'd only really get if you actually read the bible. My brother and I have loved much of the game ever since Steam, and we've played it from start to final ending finish on multiple systems. I thought it was quite funny that Edmund was mad that the community came together to find The Lost long before he thought everyone would or should. Lots more I could say about the game if I had time.

Sorry to boast, but I was probably one of the first people in the world to fight and beat Hush. I played afterbirth literally the minute it was released, then got to blue womb in under 20 minutes. I will never forget that feeling of amazement.

I found Binding of Isaac in 2013, back when I was only 12, and I played it constantly. I loved it a lot, and bought Wrath of the Lamb. It was amazing to me to see Rebirth, and I pre-ordered it. I couldn't believe the changes, it was easily one of my top 5 favorite games of all time. The Lost is my favorite character to play as, it's not even close to being the most difficult character. In my opinion, the worst is Keeper. Playing as him is nightmareish to me.
Looking back on the classic version of Isaac, I honestly don't understand how i came to enjoy the game given how bad it was.
I can't believe that mod is becoming official and Cannon to the isaac story. Can't wait till it's out

You missed talking about the Eternal Update to the original flash version. Developed by Florian after the "flash limitations" had seemingly been overcome, this unexpected update was released *after* Rebirth was already out, but *before* Afterbirth. Many players were baffled and frustrated about having to return to the inferior version of the game they thought they had finished to get new achievements by beating the game with every character again. In "Eternal mode", the D6 sometimes caused items to disappear, soul hearts and many Stat upgrades were capped, and enemies would sometimes turn white and change behavior, becoming worse than any champion enemy.

This is closer to a roguelike than a roguelite. You can improve the item pool, but the ability to permanently empower any of the characters is very limited.

I may have missed it, but I think you forgot to mention the chest, which was the final level of the original game, being hte only stage you could go to past Cathedral (with no alternative for Sheol until Rebirth came and added The Dark Room)
