Hey Olexa! Bella from the Meme Mayhem dev team - Thank you so much for playing our game! We’re thrilled to hear that you enjoyed it, and we’ve loved watching your two videos covering the game. We understand there were concerns about Steam delays the game launch, and we recognize that our communication around them wasn’t as clear as it could have been. This was because we hadn’t heard anything on our end either. We’re always striving to improve and are grateful for the community’s patience as we work through any challenges. Thank you again to everyone who’s been enjoying the game - we love seeing your comments and watching you all have fun! Thanks for being a part of this journey with us! ❤
The only reason it was that negative was cause it got reviewed bombed by Chinese since it's price wasn't acceptable to them, that and they delayed it for about 2-2.5 months without much explanation
I know that they had gotten stuck in some steam approval limbo of sorts when the game was initially released. I'm not sure if it is what delayed it for the entirety. But they did have this explanation posted on steam when the game was supposed to release and did not: "It is with heavy hearts and teary eyes (insert dramatic sniffle), we come bearing news that we wish we didn't have to share. Our highly anticipated official release, just two days away, has hit a snag. Steam, in its infinite wisdom (and seemingly infinite review process), has yet to give us the green light. Despite our countless emails, pleas, and offerings of cookies, we're still stuck in the purgatory of "under review." How long will it take? Your guess is as good as ours. It could be a couple of weeks, or it could be over a month. We're currently at the mercy of the meme gods, hoping they can help us conquer this final boss and bring our game to your screens. We know this is a bummer of epic proportions, and we share your disappointment. We were just as hyped to share the official version with you all. Thank you for sticking with us through this rollercoaster of emotions. We promise to keep you updated with any news as soon as we hear back from Steam...or at least from someone who knows someone at Steam."
Lmao. Yeah this can’t end well. I really don’t get it though. People are far too used to free games or $10 games with 300 hours of content in them. It’s setting an extremely dangerous precedence for indie games
Honestly I don't get it. If it's pricey just don't buy it. There is a lifetime supply of games of every genre even if every single person on the planet collectively decided to never produce another game again. Many of them free. Just go play those.
@@OlexaYT Having games of high quality get cheaper can only ever benefit the consumer. If developers cant adept to the market they have to either adept or die out, its why so many AAA companies are failing and it could very well hit indie studios too. But in the end, we will come out of this with more efficient game studios and better deals for all of us
I definitely feel like, since steam curates what games you have access to based on location (yes, thats a thing), it would be nice if there was a “review by your region” instead of just the global one… might as well give it different options. By version may also be a good shout out. plus many games are popular for some cultures but not others.
Afaik, emojis like Flex that hit yourself don't do any damage to you and only hit you for the sake of activating perks that apply on being hit by an emoji
emojis that hit yourself do deal damage to you equal to your opponent strength, with the exception of bombs, that deal damage equal to your own strength
After watching you play the demo of this, I immediately installed it myself and played it for dozens of hours, and now have many more hours on the full release as well
Im sure someone has said it but overclock is a keyword meaning trigger when an ult is launched (very powerful) Great video btw! Love this game, huge shame it was review bombed
I played the demo a TON, and really enjoyed it. Vampires are super overpowered, because they not only steal 3 health, but you gain it as 3 permanent max health every hit. It looks like the game just got WAY better since the demo too.
Your bandleader run had a great combination of available items. Sometimes a run will have _horrible_ options...not to mention the fact that there are a few bosses that you have to build for specifically to beat. That's a little annoying, but nothing to pan a game for. I finally completed runs with all of the characters. The robot guy was by far the hardest for me.
A small improvement the game could do (and most games like this) that would be brilliant would be to make it so that, when hovering over an item/perk, any synergistic things you have are labeled/counted up for you
I think in a recent update they made it so that if you hover over any relic that can fuse, it'll show the fusion recipe if you previously had the fusion and have the relics you *do* have ticked off
I've put 40 hours in and I genuinely cannot stop playing this game. I somehow missed you uploading this video, but I really like the gameplay loop a ton This is basically exactly the kind of gameplay mechanics and satisfaction loop i've been waiting for with roguelikes, i love auto battlers but super auto pets is really not for me with mechanics/etc, though i've played the card emoji roguelike and dont mind it. Something about this specific game of all the ones I've tried the last few years just keeps me going. The team have been putting out updates daily and it's really been helping the game shine more and more from its shaky release.
It’s an interesting game that for my taste got a lot more juice than when you originally covered it but I think 10 bucks is the sweetspot for this game for me. But thanks to the vid I’m way more intrigued now
12:55 little did Olexa know, you can steal the enemy's regen and make it go into negative. yes, they can have negative regen. they lose more and more hp each second
The game is awesome and has tons of content and unique characters. As for the steam scores - if you filter by english reviews only, it stand on "very positive" with 90%+ positive reviews atm.
Hey Olexa at eleven thirty. Hi. You've been posting a lot of good stuff lately. Which makes you a joy to watch. Keep up the good work. And good night. Sleep well.
Looks great and fun! At the very least, it’s enjoyable to watch. Given my current situation, I find the price a bit steep but I won’t cry about it (the price) on a purchase review. I’ll just add to wishlist and wait for a discount, that’s it. :)
Update: in around 2 months (oct 4-nov 20), the English reviews have somehow risen from 92% positive with 282 reviews to 93% positive with 355 reviews (a 25% increase in total reviews) Also, I have a really funny screenshot of the steam page with Overwhelmingly Positive recent reviews (96% out of 699) and Mixed total reviews (63% out of 3096)
Whether or not the Chinese review-bombing was because of the Xi Jinping meme or not is still unclear to me. I can't find evidence of it anywhere (even though I'm pretty sure I saw it with my own eyes when I looked on Oct 4), and the game is weirdly popular in China (Due to advertisement from the developers), which would explain why Chinese people "randomly were reviewing this specific game", but it's also not like other games haven't been review-bombed for the same shit like the one from Red Candle Games. The disparity between the total reviews and recent reviews can also be somewhat explained by the fact that if someone were to buy the game after seeing the mixed reviews, they're more likely to like that kind of game.
However, if you go based on just English reviews, then the total score is 93%. (Though this can also be kinda explained by what I said in the above comment if most of the 355 English reviews are part of the "recent" reviews. You could find some way to sort them by age, but I refuse.)

Hey Olexa, I’m curious if you have any plans to play Enter the Chronosphere? It’s a turn-based bullet hell roguelike that’s really good and actually has a public demo. it also appears to be getting minimal attention and I think it would be awesome if you could change that! The official UA-cam channel is only getting a couple likes and maybe 2 comments most on most of their videos for it, to top it all off almost no large content creators have played it Please Olexa? Help give them some attention! ❤
This was honestly one of my most anticipated games a few years ago, and I was offered a sponsorship for the full release and then the company just never responded to me and I’ve heard nothing about it since haha. I will definitely be playing it when it has released
Reviews went up to mixed since you recorded this, I'm glad it found footholds and is starting to be recognized better. Please play more of this, the combos are so satisfying.
I don't really fancy another by-the-book deckbuilder, but when I heard that this game is review bombed on China's side and that the game has a side of Chinese internet cultural references (a lot of them in fact, I swear about 25% of the memes in this game are never heard of by western audience) I decided to look into it a bit...and yeah, as the intro of the video said, the main complaint is about the bad balancing of the game and the starting price of 50CNY for a niche game (...which they decided to price down later with some compensation WHICH sparked another round of backlash from the players that paid full price), and the general consensus from what I've seen is that the devs are more interested in boosting PR by sponsoring western streamers and shoving in pop culture references than actually making a competent game...take that what you will. I'm definitely not the target audience of this game so I'm not gonna be the judge of if those criticism were well-founded, but from all I know about Chinese internet (since I'm literally a Chinese) and the dynamic there I can only say that the hostility from the Steam reviews checks out with what I'd expect from Chinese audience. People over here are kinda on both edge of "buying anything with gooner materials" and "obsessing over numbers". Well, hey, at least this time it's not because the game doesn't have Chinese translation...
This game is good as fuck, it gives many hours of gameplay and it's still being developed so many points of discontent (like having to go back to menu when losing and not being able to restart right away) hopefuly will be fixed.
Can you change your Steam settings to show only reviews from certain regions to prevent/reduce this effect? I wonder if there are other games that are missed because of similar issues.
For all the ways the mechanics work well, the aesthetic of the game is super tacky. Likely on purpose, but it might contribute to people being upset about the price. And while I don’t outright disagree with you (in a different thread) about indie devs pricing their games too low, a true investigation of the topic would need to get into the general economic atmosphere (how much free time/entertainment money individuals have) and also the way the games industry is starting to parallel the music industry more than ever, with the variability in team size and whether it’s a hobby, a side gig, or full time. I’m familiar with the pricing discussion in craft circles (ie: don’t undersell your time, and don’t undercut other makers who make their living on handicrafts), but it’s hella different with digital goods where the supply can be infinite. Interesting topic overall, but probably not the domain of a UA-cam comments section.
This game is goated. Sifd has gotten some seriously busted runs. I'm actually really curious to see your play style with a couple of the unlockable characters.
So even after the demo you still didn't realize that flex doesn't do damage to yourself? It "hits" you to give u more strength thats all, it doesn't damage you
If you just look at the English reviews, it's 92% positive out of 282 reviews. I heard that apparently the reason it was review bombed is that the Winnie the Xi Jingpooh meme is in the game, similar to what happened with that one korean horror game I can't remember the name of.
I appreciate how the anime music girl's expression changes once she's finally out of debt. But yeah, don't think this game warrants overwhelmingly negative. Don't think I'd pick it up for the price, but I don't think I'd disparage it either.
Meh the game was hard on demo and then... they made it harder. This compared with lack of control over vast majority of the game aspects (you cant reroll the perks for instance. Maybe you unlock it later but it should be there since the start) makes you just SLOG through winning even ascencion 0! (so you know. Easy mode). This is just assanine. You can't even "git gud", all you can do is hope to get lucky. Some bosses also hardcounter you so much you really ned to get out the way to win. No, by "you" i dont mean "your build" i mean "your character you chose". Good luck winning against enemy that gets stronger with each shot recieved while you have deck that STARTS with 20-tiny-hits-per-second deck. Ther eare also often moments when random encounters are harder than bosses on later maps due to them being basically completely random. Shit's just badly designed if you ask me. Rerolls of perks combined with like additional paths (to pick bosses you counter instead of other way around) would be a good start. Edit: Oh i guess they added rerolls. Finally. They werent there at the start...
The game looks like it plays fine with some decent build variety, I'm just not really a fan of twitter meme culture so this one's just not really for me.
I really wouldn't mind another episode trying out the robot character, seemed interesting. This game looks damn fun, man, I will never understand review bombing stuff...

@@OlexaYT yippee! ive been having a great time playing it and im super excited for you to! it think you'll really enjoy it when you're able to get around to it
Honestly the meme stuff feels incredibly forced and behind the current meme culture by a lot. And even if it wasn't, the premise is incredibly time bound, while most other good games can be independent of that. The gameplay is good but its theme and use of emojis in everything isnt doing it any favors
That’s kind of the point. Not everything has to be about the last 5 years, it’s a funny little time capsule. It’s not meant to be with current meme culture
@@Zagreus3764 by "behind the meme culture" i dont just mean meme culture of the past, but more like it is actively trying to appeal to "meme fans" of the past. its like burger king making like a boss memes. the memes themselves aren't the issue, there are multiple ways to go about presenting them. and this way feels forced in a way where a more unique self identity could've done the gameplay so much more justice.
@@commanderdemonno9819 exactly. i still am trying to enjoy it, since i assume the original dev wasn't just some corporate CEO that regurgitates what he thought "the hip new youth" will like. so i dont think its complete disconnect. but even if its meant as a reminder or satire, it doesn't differentiate itself enough from a product that would genuinely just be out of touch. kinda like a crypto bro on twitter making doge memes semi-ironically.

It’s not by design, my channel has been like this for 11 years, long before I even knew who NL was. This is just who I am in real life.
This game is goated.
Sifd has gotten some seriously busted runs.
I'm actually really curious to see your play style with a couple of the unlockable characters.
Because your poop tastes like curry your curry now tastes like poop since the taste of poop has changed
I absolutely love the game, glad you're able to give it a deserved boost
Thank you olexa guy for playing it
Genuinely one of the more addicting games I've ever played
Dont insult endurance card. Its 2nd best income card in this game. Its awesome game!
So even after the demo you still didn't realize that flex doesn't do damage to yourself? It "hits" you to give u more strength thats all, it doesn't damage you
Brother how are you supposed to tell when attacks fly at like 20/s lmao
Maxwell Road
Hatsune Miku is a vocaloid not a virtual idol. IDK why I feel the need to correct this
You should try all characters
Olenky the goat
Flatley Road
That's a cool one, the memes kinda cringe but its still looks fun
i was expecting something a lot worse ngl
man i dont understand how any auto battlers get positive reviews
I wouldn’t complain if you played this until you beat Chad, just saying😂
Moist criticals and northern lions love child
I really like this game. I’m really sad that I got negative reviews.
If you just look at the English reviews, it's 92% positive out of 282 reviews.
I heard that apparently the reason it was review bombed is that the Winnie the Xi Jingpooh meme is in the game, similar to what happened with that one korean horror game I can't remember the name of.
Ah, it was a Taiwanese game called Devotion, made by the same people behind Nine Sols
lmao perfect is slay the spire defect
This looks kinda sick. Sad about the review bombing.
12:21 I recognize this guy but I can't place the name...
I be listening while playing ds2
I love watching videos of thing game but im not paying full price for it.
I appreciate how the anime music girl's expression changes once she's finally out of debt.
But yeah, don't think this game warrants overwhelmingly negative. Don't think I'd pick it up for the price, but I don't think I'd disparage it either.
banger video title
I played and really liked the demo, but at $17 they are out of their god damned minds! I'll wait for it to be ~$5 on sale and then pick it up.
This is a dumb game, that said what do I care what game is playing as I fall asleep. Thanks for putting out content.
I really wouldn't mind another episode trying out the robot character, seemed interesting. This game looks damn fun, man, I will never understand review bombing stuff...
This game seems interesting
An unfortunate lack of playable furry characters but otherwise the art is nice!
17 dollars is absurd to complain about.
I clicked this video on my homepage instead of Eminem's "Temporary"
hey olexa i love your content man keep up the good work
that diceomancer game you reviewed a while back finally came out and not gonna lie its an absolute gem
its got some meta progression stuff but its so good omg please check it out sometime soon i am dying for content of it
On my backlog haha
@@OlexaYT yippee! ive been having a great time playing it and im super excited for you to! it think you'll really enjoy it when you're able to get around to it
I liked the demo for this, honestly. Definitely overpriced, but review bombing is ridiculous.
:D i like it
'game is too hard'
Olexa practically beats it 2nd try. People just dont inderatand how to stack synnergy.
It’s not meant to be with current meme culture
the game feels like a "how do you do fellow kids" in the worst way possible
Grate video
Wth UA-cam unsubscribed me 😭
