    Seriously, I just started looking into building a small office in my basement and this has been one of the best explanations of framing I have watched so far.

    This is a great resource. I was wondering about baseplates first instead of building the whole wall and raising it, this definitely proves it can be done that way.

    Girl...that’s was an amazing tutorial! I have framed; through lots of trial and error, I had a finished product, but if I’d had a tutorial like this I would have achieved waaaaaaay better results!

      Wow, interesting! Does that work? I would think whatever you would attach it to would also move if that is the problem, or is it just the basement floor that you have trouble with?

      Handymom just basements we actually have huge pillars that are adjustable in the basement that can help with any settling. They are attached to the main steel beam in basement ceiling! So far so good! Lol they are almost like a jack. Luckily we were able to put it in the laundry room so not visible to guests.

    Thank you for this video. I had a hard time seeing how to frame a wall "on the fly" like this vs building it on the floor and raising it. I have a room that has 2 frames already but two walls are exposed that I want to frame but to build a frame in that room on the ground is impossible, and building it out side and trying to bring it in is impossible as well.

    • @JunksawStudio
      @JunksawStudio  3 роки тому

      The rough opening should have plenty of room to accommodate a floor that isn’t level, so you don’t need to worry about it in the framing stage. The process of hanging the door frame itself is when you will take it into account by either shimming up or trimming down one leg of the door frame to make the top of the frame level.

    Hello! Question! I thought for studs with plumbing running through them we had to use 2x6, not 2x4? Can you explain why you didn't need to use 2x6? (I bought a ton of 2x6 so if I can swap it for 2x4 to save money that'd be amazing.)

  • @davidellis6930
    @davidellis6930 Рік тому

    What screws are you using to screw the studs into the top plate? I don't see that listed in the supply list. Also, I think I see that you are screwing one screw in the FRONT of the stud into the top plate, and one screw in the SIDE of the stud into the top plate. Is that correct? Usually a nailer would put both nails on the side right? Last question, about which screws to use to screw the studs into the top plate. Did you use 3" or is 2 1/2" ok? Thanks!

    i was under the impression that framing with PT lumber is a no no for the fact that it changes form as it dries. Is this true ?

    • @JunksawStudio
      @JunksawStudio  3 роки тому +1

      It’s actually a requirement for any piece of framing that comes in contact with concrete to be treated. So in a basement situation, a bottom plate sitting on a concrete floor needs to be treated, and if you were attaching your studs directly to the foundation walls those would need to be treated as well. 😊

    Great video! Just curious do you leave any gap between the joists and exterior brick wall to count for non plumb brick walls and to insulate from moisture of the basement brick?

  • @Nicole-pv4eg
    @Nicole-pv4eg 3 роки тому

    This may be a silly question- I'm wondering what you came up with on the ceiling for drywall backing. Since your top plate is lower than the floor joists above wouldn't you need to install some sort of backer that falls lower to achieve that? Or do you install the drywall to the floor joists to them and cut your drywall sheets tall enough to meet it?

    • @JunksawStudio
      @JunksawStudio  3 роки тому

      Yes! The walls are built to butt right to the bottom of the floor joists, so for the walls that run parallel to the joists, or for corners that are farther than 4” from the nearest joist, you go back in once the walls are in place and attach drywall backing to the top of the top plates overhanging into the room, so that the ceiling drywall can be attached completely around the perimeter.

  • @meekbg1

    Seems to be some debate about whether you can pre build wall and raise it in. And use shims. What’s your opinion?

    • @JunksawStudio
      @JunksawStudio  4 роки тому +1

      If the wall was non-structural like these furred basement walls, I would see no issue with doing it that way. For supporting walls I would be a little more hesitant to break from standard procedure.
