Putting in a french door in our backyard shack. I'm a first timer for sure at this. I've watched about a dozen door install videos and found this THE most helpful of them for the logic of finding my rough opening, and understanding all the math. Really appreciated the graph paper illustrations. Awesome idea, and you really know your stuff! Thanks for helping me out with your video!!

Thanks for the drawings. im a visual learner and your using the graph paper and drawing things out has really helped me.I've watched a lot of videos and this is the best yet. I am enclosing a small bathroom in a barn loft we use for our weekend getaways. Currently its surrounded by curtains, so you can see why I'm anxious to get a wall up! I honestly believe I can do this without having to hire anyone. Its 2 walls 7' long and a door frame around a bathroom in the corner of the room.

I love the break down of your math makes it easy to visualize the one thing is using screws vers a 16penny nail is screws are much more brittle so if your wall was to shift screws will snap and nails fold and bend and have a little play too them it's why nails are used and not screws

Great video. New subscriber! More info and exceptions for some viewers to think about:
If you’re building on a concrete basement floor you should float your interior walls (needed where there are expansive soils). If there are load bearing walls, exterior or interior, a door header must be significantly more than a 2x4-osb-2x4 sandwich (I have a 2x8 sandwich for some interior doors in my house). Also, walls might use 2x4 or 2x6 construction. Door framing should match what is used; i.e. don’t build a 2x4 door frame in a 2x6 wall.
