Today we are swatching all 150 Derwent Chromaflow pencils and not only will I scrutizinie how they feel, lay down, but also the colors overall. I will do a more in-depth comparison/review between them and Prisma soon. At the time of this livestream they were NOT available at Blick or Jerry's, but you can get them from Cult Pens.

I'm actually really glad you swatched these out! To my eyes the tones in these are quite different to prismas and make me want to start saving up for a set!
The colors are a lot closer than we realize -- I need to post my picture
They lack more browns but they look pretty. I love how they gave us really dark purples. They could have removed the metallics and give us other colors.
I usually agree with all brands that have metallics. Please just remove them and give me something better lol
I pre-ordered the 150 even tho I have the 72 set. It was only 30 more and then I would have had to go with international shipping which seemed silly. I’ll have extras but so looking forward to them. June 10 I’ll be waiting on Amazon 😁 I really enjoy them but the color options made it so I didn’t really use them. Excited to see all purples 🫶🏻

The “melty creaminess” in prisma is from the heavy amount of wax they use which creates a heavy wax bloom that obscures the color and reflects a ton of light. The heavy wax also makes them so soft that they break off easily while drawing AND sharpening.
Yes, there is a definite more amount of wax in them, but I do really love them. They are one of my favorite pencils.

the whole point of getting chromaflos is because they are half the cost of prismalors in Europe
Yeah for those in EU it is way cheaper to get these than Prisma, so it's nice to compare them. Here in the US they would be double for us. Funny how it all works out
Exactly! I just watched the previous livestream and Kori said that she hates the cromaflows and I was thinking that this might be because she is used to prismacolors, which are readily available in the US. Here in Europe (Germany at least) if you find them online they are very expensive, while the cromaflows are a bit more affordable. I have never tried prismacolors, so maybe that is why I liked my 72 set of chromaflow. 😊

@@JaneDoe-ib6pf I bought the Dahle 133 and use it for all my pencils. I also have the T‘gaal Multisharpener, but I am not sure if I used it for the chromaflows yet.
There is a shortage of reds and too much grays for my taste;
But lilke you say: still good
Variaty of blues and yellows.

Re: expanding the Derwent Drawing line- I spoke to a Derwent rep a few times and he seemed absolutely shocked that I was interested in an expanded Drawing line, like no one had requested it before. Maybe we should flood their insta with requests- they take them quite seriously.
So, here's a fun fact about Derwent. one rep says one thing, one rep says another LOL. I have spoken to a few that said they have no intentions of expanding it right now, another that said they are considering it, another surprised at the request, another that knows they have a lot of requests but its not in the works. It's impossible with them
@@ColorfullyOptimistic argh. Seriously. We get a whole line of pencils no one needs (chroma) but the one pencil everyone wants and will pay for (I will INVEST in a full set of Drawing pencils- like pay good $$$$$$ a la Luminance money for) they can't wrap their brain around.
@@gingerblueseriously frustrating bc I have seen that requested or people like "man, I wish they'd expand the Drawing line" all the time!! Every time I use mine I always wish they would, too, they're just so pretty and feel nice and just color so well, I can't see why they won't expand a line that's in high demand to be expanded

They won't. Too many issues with Coloursoft. I'm pretty sure Harry of The Art Gear Guide asked them and confirmed this a few years back. I never gelled with them because the greens were so unnatural and I can't layer them more than a few times. But I love the Black Cherry, Logonberry, Blackberry colours. Unique.
On Amazon, they do offer the wider Chromaflow, extra cost.
Wider as in diameter? I haven't seen a Chromaflow with a thick wooden base.

These are lovely pencils.. i checked out cult pens and for some reason they are only shipping to certain countries exp Australia.. I brought the 28 set from cult pens 🖊️ when they were available now with extra now available they aren’t sending to Australia.. I only need the last 50.. take care hun ❤❤❤😊😊😊xx
That's odd, did you reach out to customer service to find out why? Derwent will block certain countries

You should try the J.R. Ward "The Blackdager Brotherhood" You will love it.
I bought a strange prisma 150 set at Blick back in 2009. I did not realise this until early 2023 because they were colors I rarely use on top of not liking Prisma. It's all about how I like to color- and this weird set breaks nibs constantly. So I have the Derwents- they are my go to.
Sounds like it isn't a weird set but a set that Blick packaged VERY poorly. If you get them packaged better they won't break like that, especially if you get a good pencil sharpener. Personally, I think electric ones work a bit better, just don't wait until it stops sharpening or lets up, judge it yourself. Since you don't like them, there probably won't be a next time, but if it ever happens, contact Blick and let them know ASAP about the excessive breakage, they will often make an effort to resolve the issue, from my experience with them.
I now think Brutfuner is better than Prismacolor, for me at least.

I think the price comparison between prisma and chromoflow depends on where you live.
Yes, I said that in my stream. In the UK Derwent is cheaper than Prisma, while in the US opposite
What sharpener are you Ladies using for the Chromaflows?

The longest series I read is the Dark Carpathians by Christine Feehan.

That's true for most of their line -- except Coloursoft...those things crumble for me
They are not cheaper 253.00 vs 150.00 for prisma so how do you figure that they are cheaper 😮
You misunderstood. I said they are cheaper for those in the UK -- not US. Derwent is a cheaper product in the UK than for us here, while Prisma is more expensive in the UK than US

P.s they will not be available open stock
Derwent has already confirmed the new colors will be, but not right away. Just as they have some already available open stock. Not sure where you heard they wouldn't be, but I have heard back from my Derwent contact.
@@ColorfullyOptimistic When they first announced the 100 and the 150 sets, the color chart listed the final 50 as “not available open stock.” Derwent was pretty mum on responding back to people and there was a lack of transparency with a few art supply reviewers. People were upset because they bought the 100 set, then found out about the 150 and that they wouldn’t be able to get those open stock.
Word hasn’t quite gotten around yet that they do plan to release those 50 open stock, and Derwent hasn’t made an official announcement themselves on their socials about when.
@@QueenofFlannelColors Yes, they haven't, but according to my contact at Derwent they do plan to have them release "in the future" -- what that means between when the 150 set releases in the US and when open stock actually come who knows. It took them awhile to do open stock when they had their initial sets out before anyway, but they do intend, just do not have a date as to when.
@@ColorfullyOptimistic I know. I’m just saying, when the sets were first announced and the way they worded it on their color chart, it caused a big hulabaloo. Rather than clarify when asked back then, or explain it to reviewers who asked, they didn’t. Harry over at the Art Gear Guide did like three videos on it because he felt like he was mislead and that he mislead others. That’s why a lot of people still think those final 50 aren’t being released open stock.
I swear I’ve started your video at LEAST three times now since Sunday but as you’ve mentioned, kids have been released into the wild and it’s apparently illegal for me to give attention to any one thing for too long 🥲😅 BUT your sacrifice is appreciated! Most people, understandably, wouldn’t bother to review something they aren’t too fond of. Especially for the price! I’m looking forward to finally finishing the video (hopefully!) soon! 🖤🩶💛
