    CW: Dad passed in September. No, I don't linger on it, but I do talk about moving to their house and finding weird things along the way.
    As mentioned in the video description, the Husbeast reminded me that the bulk of my viewers aren't on my Patreon or follow my Instagram/Facebook, so might be a little confused as to what's been going on the past couple of months.

    Yay for crazy kittens. Wednesday's purr is something fierce. I've always liked the panelling in a basement, especially that golden wood colour. Makes for nice warm cabiny feel. Thanks for the update. Hopefully you get things squared away soon.

  • @MsAnpassad
    @MsAnpassad 10 місяців тому +5

    An affordable tip on the wood paneling. I worked at a hotel where the previous owners had gone all out on it during the 80's and changing it would just be too expensive. So we glazed the wood with a light grey paint, so you could still see the woodgrain (I'm swedish, so I really don't know if I used the right terms). It became very pretty and lighter.
    The grey hides the yellow of the wood that otherwise seeps through if you use white.
    And I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. It weren't that long ago that you lost your mom, so I can understand that you are going through some hard times at the moment.

    Absolutely LOVE your channel , your dry ‘wicked’ sense of humour and the kitties! (Young felines in case anyone starts to imagine I’m referring to something that might attract perverts) As a larger lady ,I’ve always thought that there is at least one advantage to having to pay exorbitant amounts for dull, basic scaffolding…..kitties love to lie on warm, soft, shelves…which at my age, is what said structure is. I’ve also found over the years that they are attracted to beautiful knitting and crochet…the more expensive a yarn the better! So very glad to be watching a great channel with fun content and humorous lines.

    Ah, kittens, so VERY cute but as from a book that my mom gifted me about a decade ago (😮😮😮,😂😂😂😂)- "kittens are like homicidal muffins on legs, best to get two and not for beginners".
    Yes, my profile picture is a picture of my cat- Muffin. I adopted her when she was 16 weeks old. She really has (and continually does so) lives/lived up to the inspiration of her name of Muffin by being slightly homicidal. But at the approximate age of 13, luckily, she is much milder than her behaviors of her younger years.
    Anyway, adorable kittens, enjoy the time they are little and cuddly yet being an absolute but amazing and awe-inspiring rambunctious of their youth. This time passes super quickly so document as much as you can.

    They also renovated in the 80s with all the walls turned to cedar wood. This year we sold the house and moved to nova Scotia. The amount of work to clear it was staggering. I found my high-school essays from the 60s...

    I am so sorry to hear about your father passing. Also sorry that you have so much to sort through. My grandfather passed recently and it was a very involved process going through it all.
    The new spaces seem cozy and exciting! The nest stuff segment was a lot of fun, especially the hockey helmet story. And thr kittens seem determined to keep you up on your editing gane. 😂
    Looking forward to the new content and don't apologize for a vanilla sock video. I have enjoyed every video you have made and I am sure the others who are here have too. :)

    They might have had a big cabinet or tapistry over the bare spot. So they might not have bothered to finish it. Since it was the 80s likely an entertainment center. I always hated the big stero speakers. The sound just goes into every room even with the door closed.

    • @MaireColclough
      @MaireColclough  3 місяці тому

      The bare spot on the wall? That's fairly recent, and my parents had kept a small spare bed down here for one of the grandkids who wanted privacy. I know Dad planned to renovate the basement, but time got away from him. I think it was taken down to see whether there was drywall behind it.

    auarts fiber department takes donations of fiber equipment and suppiles, if you need to do that. ps i had to clear out mom and dads place when dad passed then had to help when mom passed a decade later. your basement is better put together than the one i am happy to be in, as i had to do a move at the start of augest. when the roommates just start taking you paintings with out asking (and well other things as well) ad when you are not there, its time to go. the oldest and the monster in law think they have cut me out of their life, ha.

      And I'll keep the school(s) in mind...though I think any fibre that may need donating will probably wind up going to the Peter Lougheed Hospital crafting group. Seeing the requests for donations posted in the elevators was part of my daily routine for a good 2 weeks 🙂

    Vaccination and Spay - I have an appointment to get my two kittens spayed next week to the tune of $800 and I'm grateful. We have a serious shortfall of vets in our area. Also, I work from home, so the kittens spend at least half their day on Zoom

    First my condolences on the loss of your parents. I undertand this is a hard time for you. Please take your time in healing. There is no set time limit on grief. Since the basement is giving you 80's vibes break out your 80's inspired vest turn up some Bowie while you are channeling your inner Marie Kondo. I mean nothing gets a girls blood pumping like David Bowie dancing around with a bunch of puppets in skin tight pants. That should hrlp you find the energy to go through the clutter in the 80's basement. All joking aside, good luck with your decluttering. I recently decided that I wanted to pit in a sewing table in my sewing/ office/ extra room off the master bedroom. We ha e boxes of stuff from 2003 going forward that got boxed up and moved around with us 5 times. Its amazing how much clutter a person can accumulate over time. I told my husband that I'm of the opinion that less is more. I have made it a goal to clean out the clutter so I can put in a cutting table. I would like to just toss it all but I can't as there are some legit gems hidden away in there. Little sentimental things like art projects from the kids. Then there are some straight up legit documents we don't want to toss. Its a process to get through it all. So I get it. Good luck with everything. Hopefully you will find some time to unwind and finish some projects without kitty help.

      I'm increasingly of the opinion Ultra Clutter forms from being in one place for a long time. It's one of the things holding up the full move. I've told the Husbeast we need to move every 5 years (or pretend we are) to keep the sprawl down 😁

    I'm so sorry for your loss, Hon. My parents were legendary in the shop therapy circles. The post-clean-up is... it's own thing. Hugs from here. Making decisions is exhausting.
    Yup. That basement is of it's time. We too had the faux stone relief around the fireplace and grey wood-grain paneling growing up. Paint. Think paint... nice, light, warm colour(s) on the rocks will do wonders... If you go for a complete 80's... you're gonna need some neon; just sayin'.
    Scritches to the kittens.
    Maybe do a reach-out to the museums for the dry-run CCM helmets (starting with the Museum of History - bidding war between them and the Hall of Fame and the Oilers??). They're probably the only ones remaining of the prototypes. Yes!!! Frame the blueprints. Put one of those little plaques at the bottom with your Dad's full name, dates & a one sentence description. Find out who the local artist-run galleries use for framing things in acid-free everything... he left them in the breezeway... I... damn... thank G*d(s) early plastic will last forever and therefore survived a few decades of winter...

      @@MaireColclough Oooh, while I've got you on the line, so to speak...
      A sewing knowledge dump:
      Apparently the professionals deal with us endowed human being by taking the one large dart and splitting it into two or three darts. Something about taking an equal measure from the existing dart point and then there's a little bit of math... I didn't completely understand the explanation...
      Also - it takes an average of five mock-ups to dial in a typical outfit for professional sewists. Baste everything. Start with the bodice - adjust until practically perfect (repeat the mantra 'drag lines are my friends'). Add in a single sleeve - ditto for adjustments. Add in a second sleeve if you really want to check your math. Add the skirt. By the time they get to the actual fabric they've about memorized all the machine maneuvers it takes to get to finished. It's not just sewing a line - it's muscle memory...
      And - you can do a bust adjustment type move to accommodate our tummies and tushies. The aim is to add in more fabric at a particular place. Other than that? Basically - need a dart, add a dart... and dart lines are allowed to curve...
