If he isn't the greatest singer of all times, he is certainly one of the greatests. He said he used to listen to Mario Lanza when he was a kid. I guess this is why he was a rock'n'roll singer that could sing like a great tenor sometimes. And his voice is so deep and sweet. It's the most beautiful male voice.

In my opinion the greatest singer of all time
I have listened to most of his songs from his very young beginnings
to the very end.
I am blown away by what this man could do with his voice.
He could change it at will and play with it like an instrument.
He could go high, low, yodel, powerhouse out like an opera singer,
Croon like a country boy, growl like a caged tiger, sex it up with
raspiness, whisper sing like in Fever.
He was a master vocally. As a woman I would be satisfied just to
look at him had he been mute. 😊

You are so right - "the greatest singer of all time." If only people had said that more back when he was still alive, instead of the horrible criticism and ridicule he faced when he was starting out. I was in eighth grade and I watched this concert live. When Elvis walked on the stage I thought… Damn that’s the coolest dude I’ve ever seen in my life! Then he opened his mouth and started singing. This song you just reacted to is probably the best from the show. When Luciano Pavarotti says that if Elvis Presley ever learned operatic technique he would’ve been the greatest tenor of all time i’ll take him at his word. That said Elvis was the greatest entertainer of all time. By the way… Elvis Presley is alive today. You’ll find out.

So, where did Elvis get the emotion, the intesity, and the connection to this song from? The Aloha from Hawaii concert was filmed in January 1973. Elvis and Priscilla filed for divorce in August 1972...just five months prior. According to Joe Moscheo of the Imperials, the failure of Elvis's marriage "was a blow from which he never recovered". I believe Elvis was letting all of that pain burst out of him on stage. And from that, we have this masterpiece performance.
