I think Yamaha hit the perfect size, weight and price with these keyboards. I've been looking for the past year not really too excited about anything I was seeing, but once I saw the MODX8, I ordered it right away.
I bought the MODX8, mostly for piano voices as it sounds great, and very lightweight. I may get another digital piano to take its place for on stage performance, since the MODX8 is more of a synthesizer than just a stage piano, like my old Yamaha P-200 stage piano, which is very heavy.
I got one mint on Reverb for just over $700 for 61 key. Very satisfield with it. Navigation has taken awhile to used to. The sounds are very good. Am looking at MODX also now.

Hi Bonners - I have an MOX6F but cannot find any instructions in the manuals to add delay/echo effect - (times, velocity and feedback) to a track in song or pattern mode. The master effects only show Chorus and Reverb. You help will be very much appreciated - Thanks Chris
I am not current on all things new and synth … but some of you are saying it has no sequencer and the video clearly shows that it has a sequencer. I planned on using my DAW anyway. So who really cares?
I've seen a few demos but haven't heard anyone say "each one has the EXACT same amount of sounds as the Montage" (Which I played and loved for its many great pianos )is there any way it has as many sounds on board?
@@bruceross9521 Thanks for the reply. That is terrible for such a feature rich instrument and Yamaha. Good video. Any thoughts on that? Vs a more piano-focused board like the Stage 3? Thanks.

why didn't you mention if the smaller ones are weighted keys or not? I do like how they don't stick a bunch of useless plastic casing on the ends of the keyboard.

The Mo was a synth and the DX7 were both synthesizers, yes it has a keyboard technically, but this is the marriage of FM from the DX-7synthesizer and the Motif XF synthesizers .You must not be familiar with music products, that was a correction by someone who is possibly a “newbie” on the music scene. @@fingerhorn4 So basically most modern synths are a waste of money. buying a few old school synths like a sy/tg77 and high quality effect modules is cheaper and you get the same or even better sounds.

Hi I have limited use of my right hand. Is there was a to use the octave changer to play with the left hand and the keyboard would automatically play the right? or do you this keyboard has other options. Thanks.
Hi, yes if you using the arpeggiator you can shift any part to any octave range you want. I have only one healthy hand but able to create and play complex arrangements that way. It's very versatile. Good luck.
The Junos are sub-1000 USD level keyboards, competing with (Korg) Kross and (Yamaha) MX series. Mine (Juno DS 61) is a pretty good rompler, but programming patches can be a bit difficult. The Roland FA series has a bit higher quality components, and would be in the same price/capability range as the MO** keyboards. I think the MODX has quite a bit more audio interface capabilities - no special driver required, extra channels, and the ability to send incoming digital audio through effects.
As previously stated by Roboprogs, the Juno DS88 is not really a competitor to the MODX range. You would be looking at the FA series for something close. Other options would, of course, be the Korg Krome. Roland does not really do a workstation that is competitive with the Korg Kronos or the Yamaha Montage, meaning that it has no competitive flagship model to take from when it created the FA08. The built-in interface to connect to software on your computer without the need for an external interface makes this an incredibly versatile and useful instrument for your Studio.
Roboprogs whats the sound quality difference between the modx , montage, motif , kronos,m3, korg triton, and roland fantom, juno, jd? Like from worst to best although they all have good sound quality ?
@Qualitystuff: I, uh, dunno. The only one of those I even own is the Juno DS :-) That, and my local music store doesn't even seem to carry much of the Korg line, mostly Roland and Yamaha, so those are the ones I get to poke at from time to time. My experience with the MODX is only watching youtube videos over the last week. I like what I see, and the specs sound good for the money, but I've not gone down to my "local" store (a drive...) to see if they have one out to play with yet. I suspect the Yamaha sound engine is a little better, but I really like the physical layout of Roland's keys/panels a bit more, which is why I got (for what I can afford) the Roland Juno DS instead of the Yamaha MX.
Roboprogs thanks for replying, i know what you mean i have an old roland eg 101 4octaves and it’s one synth and arranger at the same time although it mostly has pop rhythms but i used to think that arrangers and synths sound the same and i bought later on some yamaha psr 730 etc thinking its gonna sound better than my eg101 but omg it sounded like a toy like a 50$ keyboard 🎹 and then i read more about the differentiations between synths and arrangers and realised the reason my old eg101 sounded good was cos it was a synth even though it was a low-mid range synth but i know what you mean roland always offers you the sound effects solid nobs to make the sounds sound even better which i love but i wonder why is it so hard for the manufacturers to make an arranger+high end synth all in one or is it just so they can make more money or i dont get it but anyway id rather go for a synth if i had to pick one but having an arranger and a good synth is cool though them arrangers rhythms help a lot and you can add tons of them from all genres
None of the MODX keyboards have built in speakers. You'll need to purchase some studio monitors such as Yamaha HS5 or HS7, or a keyboard amp - dependent upon your needs
Beautiful presentation! Although, the same cannot be said for the instrument itself which is rather a disappointment. Yamaha seems to have taken one step forward (FM engine) and two steps back (no proper sequencer and pattern mode) with MODX compared to its predecessor MOXF. As an owner of MOXF6 synth, I see no reason why I'd want to downgrade and give up on essential features that I use every day for a rather cheap sounding FM plugin.
I completely agree! I also have the MOXF6. I see no reason to buy the MODX. It’s no longer a workstation. If this had the same sequencing capabilities of the MOXF line, I’d consider the upgrade.
Ghs touch ... Not bad ... But after a few years ... Keys making noises and it's also not good for practice! (Experience with the p95). I'm wondering about the synth keys touch ... Playing pianos.
Yes, it does. You can check out the detailed specifications and sound library here: uk.yamaha.com/en/products/music_production/synthesizers/modx/index.html#product-tabs
It appears that MODX, like the Montage, is professionally CRIPPLED by the inability to assign the MIDI receive channel per part. I'm still in disbelief that this core functionality (necessary for programming splits and layers for external controllers, such as a second keyboard), was senselessly stripped from MODX and Montage, despite being present in EVERY OTHER flagship synth on the market, including Motif! Despite repeated and numerous complaints, Yamaha has done absolutely NOTHING to correct this oversight. Apparently, Yamaha simply no longer cares if you intend to use MODX or Montage as a master keyboard. Performing musicians, BEWARE!!!
Hi Bonners. I’m interested in this synth. From your video, the plastic finish doesn’t look too offensive, kind of matte, right? All my other synths are made of metal, will this one fit in ok and not be too much of an eyesore? Thanks.
Some questions...hows the output sound quality? is it also "plastic"or same as montage? and the key size on the 6/7 are also narrow or normal this time?how about patches from the montage..will they upload without any issue here? thanks in advance
Half the price bu also half the number of Parts playing in a Performance. MODX is undoubtedly a great synthesizer, but the relationship is similar as it happened between MOXF and Motif XF. If we compare a MOXF with a MODX, it's obvious that the latter is way better. But if we compare a MODX with a Montage, the richness and sound complexity of the latter can't be beaten. At least until the next model will hit the market.
g4macdad MODX is an interesting instrument for a budget minded musician. Usually I don"t consider Behringer, expecially because they copy other famous musical instruments without discretion. I prefer drinking champagne not urine.
Correction... They copy famous instruments, that the original companies refuse to release. Behringer 808 is what we want, not the Roland toy they released.
Ok, idiot question. No external speakers, so...how do you get sound to external speakers? NOBODY explains that to us idiots. What do we need? $1,000,000 more worth of equipment? Simple inputs? A USB connected to some audio interface routed through a DAW to a control board to $1000 speakers? What?
SERIOUS QUESTION: who’s got s B3/Leslie simulation that gets close to the realism that Nord provides? I have owned Nords Electro and stage, Yamaha Motif, Korg SV1, Roland boards, and played dozens more...and every B3 w/122 sounds like crap compared to Nord. BTW Much more important to me than emulating a nylon string guitar or Bass clarinet.
Agree with you Uncle Willy. I too have owned Nord, most recently a 5D and curious if this new MODX has any kind of descent B3 emulation.... All too often these keyboard video reviews forget to include organ sounds, unless of course it's because they don't sound good.
@@bandwidth11 absolutely not! As a motif owner I wouldn't wouldn't even bother with Yamaha organ sounds as they are pure shit! If they have upgraded them you can bet they would have advertised it as it would be the first thing they're uppin the ante on in a long time.
Ironically logic has a very good B3 simulation in which you can modify much more parameters than the Nord (I own a 5D too) Try the SK1. You would have a much easier time pairing with Leslie technology then the Nord
Bacardi Jr. Thanks Bacardi Jr, I'm sure you're right. I use the Logic X B3 sim all the time in the studio and it kicks serious ass. My problem is that I'm primarily a guitar player but also play keys and I don't want to haul and entire keyboard rig with me to shows on top of a fairly complex guitar rig. I'm always hopeful to find some reasonably price keyboard that can do everything well, including Hammond stuff... Thx.
If you are looking for an authentic Organ sound then you really need to be looking at Hammond. Many others try to recreate the sound and the Leslie but do not quite manage it, although some get closer than others. Come and try out all of the different models in our Store and hear the difference for yourself!

Hi I’m really curious does this have built in speakers
Are u blind?
Nope, no built in speakers, as you need to use a line out.
Ghs touch ... Not bad ... But after a few years ... Keys making noises and it's also not good for practice! (Experience with the p95). I'm wondering about the synth keys touch ... Playing pianos.
ghs action on these is what they put on their cheap digital pianos. Lots of complaints in past, unless they made it more reliable.
Se alguém puder me ajudar pois já tive um nor stag 2 88 teclas e as teclas do nord não era muito pesadas
Does it have string resonance?
Yes, it does. You can check out the detailed specifications and sound library here: uk.yamaha.com/en/products/music_production/synthesizers/modx/index.html#product-tabs
Name of that piece in 5:28 ????????
Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield
Cuando yamaha y korg se propongan hacer una copia del roland xps 10...o xps30
Esto se va a poner bueno.
Im still confused on oscilators ?.
8 oscilators per voice (AWM2) and 8 voices (so 8 x 8 oscilators) per "multi", split or layered across the keyboard.
Thanks.
The finish looks very similar to that of the Montage, being a Gun-metal Grey. It should look fantastic amongst your other Synths.
Nice
Some questions...hows the output sound quality? is it also "plastic"or same as montage? and the key size on the 6/7 are also narrow or normal this time?how about patches from the montage..will they upload without any issue here? thanks in advance
TreeOfLifeFestival official same sounds and quality from the montage !
I doubt it
its still unclear atm- lets wait and see - but all in all looks like good value for money
The build is all out of plastic. I don't care about that but I don't like the cheap Walmart plugs

Does it have CS-80 sounds?
It’s MO-DX - not MOD-X
It’s modx ...MODX....it says it on the keyboard...gees...GROW UP.
cds101 How about you grow up and accept the fact that it is pronounced moh-dee-ex? Geez...
mod x7?? ---
Mo Dx7 it is I believe
MODX8
Bom dia sera que as teclas desse teclado e muito pesada
Half the price bu also half the number of Parts playing in a Performance. MODX is undoubtedly a great synthesizer, but the relationship is similar as it happened between MOXF and Motif XF. If we compare a MOXF with a MODX, it's obvious that the latter is way better. But if we compare a MODX with a Montage, the richness and sound complexity of the latter can't be beaten. At least until the next model will hit the market.
There is a youtube video where the two synths are played side by side and they sound identical.
g4macdad until the Performances are made up of maximum 4 Parts MODX and Montage (seem) sound the same, but no way when Performance are more complex.
Okay... But for the price, it is actually better. What about the Deepmind 12?
g4macdad MODX is an interesting instrument for a budget minded musician. Usually I don"t consider Behringer, expecially because they copy other famous musical instruments without discretion. I prefer drinking champagne not urine.
Correction... They copy famous instruments, that the original companies refuse to release. Behringer 808 is what we want, not the Roland toy they released.
cliff jones lesson to be learned google
Ok, idiot question. No external speakers, so...how do you get sound to external speakers? NOBODY explains that to us idiots. What do we need? $1,000,000 more worth of equipment? Simple inputs? A USB connected to some audio interface routed through a DAW to a control board to $1000 speakers? What?
Headphones work too. A set of monitors can be $200. Or an amp.
Come and try out all of the different models in our Store and hear the difference for yourself!
never heard it called MOD X always Moe Dee X .
