      @@ChrisHyde537 Its hard to judge. I would say give Magnus a couple of year more where he clearly dominates the chess world and then you can call him the GOAT.
      But these are also different times. Every new chess generation has an advantage compared to their previous one since they can build up on the already existing knowledge. Also a big differents are the engines ofc. Now you can prepare way more faster and precise than 20 years ago.

    • @isaacharton7851
      @isaacharton7851 Рік тому +87

      No he's not, this is similar to Khabib's case in MMA, Magnus as Khabib has been very dominant champ, perhaps one of the most dominant ones, but seeing history of reigning champs year for year, he is not the best to have ever lived, the contention is between Kasparov, Emanuel Lasker, Ruy Lopez, Steinitz, greats who explored the game from scratch and gave everyone learning base, basically inventors vs learners, to invent and to discover is much more valuable and arguably more difficult than to learn.
      Also, the fide tournaments or the world championships tournaments are just tournaments by an organization not a testimony to who is the best necessarily, before those tournaments centuries ago people played chess and their overall progress over the year or the years is what set them apart to be the best not just some single tournament that we arbitrarily decided to be a WC tournament in an arbitrary period of history which means nothing, chess players such as as I said Ruy Lopez and Philidor who have achieved far greater reigns as best players and were de facto world champs, hold zero world champ titles solely because of the lack of arbitrary red tape procedures and organizations, when in reality their reign are to be translated to minimum 14 consecutive title defences each (Magnus has only 5, Kasparov 6).

      @@isaacharton7851 Hey, I'm sorry, but even in their primes, Magnus would absolutely school most of these gentlemen.
      *Consider:* Magnus has used computers to aid his learning in ways old masters never dreamed. Magnus is a machine, as he was raised by machines.
      *Consider:* Magnus' average rating is higher than Kasparov's all time highest rating -- and it has been for over a decade (since 2012).
      *Consider:* Magnus' competition today is much tougher than that of the old masters, and yet, he dominates by an even higher margin.
      Also, the fact that you left out Bobby Fischer and Paul Morphy shows me that at best you have some holes in your list. =]
      For me, Magnus' prowess as All Time World #1 is not in question. And he is amazing in all time formats, not just classical.

Check is also viable in my opinion to induce some fringe valuebets and bluff from sth like AQs. I would rate river plays as 1. check 2. bet smaller 3. bet higher. 4. bet as he did. I only like check on the turn. All in all he didn't play this hand well.

Magnus made over 10 million playing chess, so he would have to play a cash game pot of several millions, which he just won't play. Magnus is intelligent and wouldn't risk a large amount of his net worth in a cash game at these stakes, where he would most likely be the biggest fish at the table, because he would be matched with absolute top pros.

    Great hand. Basically like everything you did there! (Im a professional 25 cent/50 cent online player) Im also rated about 1700-1800 in rapid... Not trying to flex or anything... Some people might like to double barrell, but I think ur check on the turn gives him a chance to bluff if he has nothing or a draw, and it disguises your hand well. The only thing I might do a bit different is bet anywhere from 30k-60k on the River. The line u took makes your hand is weaker than it actually is. Many people who bluff will Continue bet the flop but give up on the turn. I think max value would have been 30k-60k. But who am I to judge, u won the pot + got paid for the 18k. My goal is life is to play u head up in chess + Poker at least once!

      The river call was just terrible knowing Magnus' playstyle. His 4-betting range is basically JJ+ and AK, so the opponent ties with the one remaining QQ and loses to all the other remaining hand combos. Magnus played the hand well, but his opponent's river call was just terrible. If it was someone like Phil Ivey or Tom Dwan in Magnus' position, the river call might have been close, because these players have bluffs in their range (at all times), but against a conservative player like Magnus the river call is just a donation of chips.
