Govan is there not showing off not giving a shred of judging vibe to the other players. He actually seems interested in what they have to add to the conversation and when they are done nods his approval. A truly unique master guitarist.
true that, as a terrible guitarist myself I was waiting for him to destroy the Music. Man guy who couldn't bend in tune, but instead of being a rockstar he chose to be a fellow musician.
+Karn Kaul He is so good at doing exactly what you just said. Few probably know the fret board or "music" better than he does. A true musical beast with a huge brain!
*lmao* it's not ufc man. although i bet Guthrie could throw a mean roundhouse. he is hella humble, i doubt he thinks he's having a guitar duel with anyone, but i get what you're saying. imo he's one of the best guitarist I've ever heard/ seen live. His technique is through the roof. When he sets the bar he just tosses it in the air and it never falls back down.
i have no idea who the other guys are ecept for guthrie govan, but he sits back and lets the other guys have their chance to play and be heard, and gives the song space, then when it's hos chance he's great, and he works for the song not himself. well done sir.
+steve wilson The "other guys" are just those that paid to attend the masterclass clinic. The featured artist usually has a jam at the end with those that would like to get up on stage with him.
And it blends perfectly with the chord progression... I don't know, it's like the whole band decided to play that lick, but it's just Guthrie improvising. Astonishing
Dude in red pants is way better than I could ever hope to be but damn... when govan played right after him it was insane how much nicer it sounded.. I truly believe the tone comes from the player not the fancy guitar..
Love All Oh I see. Yes the traditional US way is strange since the components don't increase in magnitude from left to right like the English method (I can only assume the day/month/year method came first, long before the colonization of America). It's also awkward when the country of origin isn't known and both interpretations are possible due to the day and month both being under the value of 13. Specific famous dates can become second nature though, like 9/11 meaning September the 11th, which demonstrates how the US dating method is made to match that phrasing. Still, it's an extremely unhelpful difference, compared to trivial spelling differences like 'color'. Interestingly the band Living Colour is American... Where am I?
Sometime ago i posted Something like that and they responded to me that is a teacher of the academy... I think that to be a great player and to be a great teacher may not be the same
+Tyler Saunders its sort of like the old school of musicians are disapearing and being replaced with "youtube stare into a computer post everything on line" musicians,..instead of musicians that are constantly playing live refining their art that way,....
+Jose Armijo Bueno amigo, aunque mi mensaje no iba cargado de ningún tipo de mala intención ni crítica, sí que es verdad que un mal día puede tenerlo cualquiera y la lástima es que lo tuviera al lado de guthrie.
Even great musos sound ordinary and look nervous playing with Guthrie. That’s just what the Guthrie is. I’m starting to think Guthrie is an adjective meaning, a level of excellence generally regarded as unattainable.
+Brian Williams There is such a thing as good music and bad music, regardless of how noteworthy (or in this case, not noteworthy) the player may be. I was helping you skip to the good part. Please note you are not obligated to accept my help.
Is this supposed to sound like canteloup island. Its wrong scale and its not even close to Herbie hancocks jazz version. Sounds like a bunch of rockmusiscian trying to play jazz.
+Ben Myers in fairness, i don't think any other country uses this system, I'm probably wrong but if not all, at least the majority of the other places uses day, month, and year. Well, lets be real, makes more sense.
These dudes really need to learn how to PHRASE their ideas, and work on timing instead of "look at me Guthrie I can solo/shred and sound kinda like you....." NOT even close bruh. If you want to really learn and improve you have to put your stupid ego away. That's one thing all these young guitar players MISS with Guthrie. He's not out to show off over everything.
Still, must be intimidating playing in front of one of the greats. I think that they handles themselves quite decently. They both threw in some fun ideas.
They need to sing what they play, instead of just exploring places to put their fingers. They don't sound like they've been playing jazz that long and seem nervous. Tbh Guthrie attracts that audience by the way he plays. He's definitely a rock guitarist that learned jazz and then marketed himself in the rock community.
@Juan2003gtr Really? What stuff did you see? I am a full time professional musician. I endorse Fodera guitars which artist roster list encompasses some of the greatest musicians in the world. They do not just let anyone on that list buddy. Watch/listen to this and then tell me how bad my timing is. ua-cam.com/video/Vw-5dtl1s5M/v-deo.html.
@@joecool415 Yes I agree. These guys are not bad by any means. there's a lot of nerves due to playing with someone they hold in high esteem which is understandable. It's always so awesome to watch Guthrie "quote" other random tunes and perfectly fit them in context, all while improvising.
+Karn Kaul Do you mean the bit at 5 min 02? I was wondering what that tune was? It fits perfectly!
+MackJohnson1337 And also at 6:18
+Karn Kaul He is so good at doing exactly what you just said. Few probably know the fret board or "music" better than he does. A true musical beast with a huge brain!
Tempted by the Fruit of Another - Squeeze
''Tom's Diner'' by Susanne Vega.
Don't you all people see this? Guthrie is a humble guitar hero that can play with any beginner musician like this video. Salute
pretty sure you mean "amateur". these guys are definently not beginners.
Os improvisos do Govan...parece que ele já fez tudo em ksa ..e outro nível...
Kkkkkkk pode crer, alienígena
Alguém sabe o nome dessa música?
I'd never feel confident to stand on a stage and go toe-to-toe with Guthrie.

I'm pretty sure they rehearsed several times, and him being such a humble guy built their confidence up till the day of the jam
He'd make you feel welcome, he doesn't seem to have that competitive vibe:)
@@DaveWestGuitar thats why his music is melodic and not just the speed arpeggio nonsense
so true😬😬
Salute to the two guitar players who were able to play guitar nicely in front of Guthrie.
thats being nice
Very good guys! Well done
Stevie T on drums
Haha was going say the same
Guthrie's playing just makes me laugh, it's just so unbelievable that someone can be so good!! HAHAHA!!
Fantástico e muito bonito
So great players!
That 1-2 seconds clip transitions are so annoying

Miracle on drums
song starts at 4:15....yup sorry I said it.
Thanks your doing God's work
I agree but still no jazz feeling
God bless you!
thanks for uploading this!
lo que hay que lograr, frases claras una tras otra.. GG lo hace sin parar, es una máquina de tirar ideas buenas. los otros titubean
GO TO 4:30 FOR THE CLINIC...... GG does it again. the man the myth the gandolf.
skip to 4:13 to hear the master
Thanks
good session
what more can you say he s off another planet light years in front of anybody
Freak kitchen shirt fuck yeah
Humble axe wielding master
that song reference @ like 5:05 did anyone else pick up on that? I hate that song but it was funny still
For me it´s weird to see each guitarrist using a different strap height lol.
Alguém sabe o nome dessa música?
The circus music at 6:19 😂Gg funny
LMAO I didn't notice that lol
The song at 5:05 is called Tom's Diner
I noticed that. Just goes to show that Guthrie listens to maybe almost anything.
Thanks
And it blends perfectly with the chord progression... I don't know, it's like the whole band decided to play that lick, but it's just Guthrie improvising. Astonishing
5:04 Crystal Waters - Gypsy Woman. The guy with the red Jeans almost fucked up. Good thing he cleaned it up near the end of his run.
Wow, the guy with the Music Man who solos first really spoils it. I imagine he had to be pretty excited to be on stage with Guthrie Govan.
Dude in red pants is way better than I could ever hope to be but damn... when govan played right after him it was insane how much nicer it sounded.. I truly believe the tone comes from the player not the fancy guitar..
@SoftserveSodium and all the skills 👌
his Suhr guitar is rather nice
!
+MISTERJOHN JOHN you mean his charvel....
+MISTERJOHN JOHN it's a Charvel guitar (GG model)

Where am I?
what are those things that wrap the strings?
+mosot624 Might be something like a FretWraps, used as a string dampener, for two-hand playing that might otherwise involving strings ringing.
Thanks man I might get one of those
Looks like he might have something official here, perhaps supplied by this band. Usually Guthrie uses a hair elastic. Get em at a pharmacy for a buck.
thanks as well, I already have one. Just got it from ebay few weeks ago for £3.
Guthrie seems to play with the most unknown nobodies, someone correct me if I am wrong?
it´s some music school masterclass, he´s jamming with some stundents i guess
yup, it's a small music school in Barcelona
Sometime ago i posted Something like that and they responded to me that is a teacher of the academy... I think that to be a great player and to be a great teacher may not be the same
>to be a great player and to be a great teacher may not be the same< True. Just so happens that Guthrie is both.
He does the gigs that pay. This one probably pays very well, and he gets to travel to boot. Lucky bastard.
The guy at the back is very impressive!
+Mary Joyce Carro *lmao* the only people here who played well were the bass, drums and guthrie.
Ur ryt dude
+Tyler Saunders its sort of like the old school of musicians are disapearing and being replaced with "youtube stare into a computer post everything on line" musicians,..instead of musicians that are constantly playing live refining their art that way,....
@@seanruiz3357 why don't you show us what you can play so we'll acknowledge you for the infinitely enlightened guitar god you are.
I would be twice as nervous as that second solo guy if I was playing with him.
Uf... El chaval del fondo tuvo que sentir auténtica fatiga... Y yo auténtica envidia, qué daría yo por tocar con guthrie!

Freak Kitchen T-shirt
He don't give a shit if it's a big gig of small gig's....he go everywhere where he is safe playing...........
What song does he quote at 5:03?
Suzanne Vega "Tom's Diner"
Reminds me of getting my hair cut in 1990

For a second I though that was young Martin Miller (guy in red pants) lol
name of the song, anyone? tnx
Cantaloupe island by Herbie Hancock
+MrMickiew Much appreciated, friend. I've been stuck with the melody for 2/3 days now, trying to remember the composer or the name of the song. cheers
Cheers
Sigh... Skip to 4:12 for Guthrie's part.
+Brian Williams because the other guitarists weren't noteworthy for a second.

Make sure you don't upload your videos about the time you played with Guthrie.
Guthrie x Cacau Santos ""
The guy in the red slacks is lost somewhere in time, you guys just watch ,study ,and listen ok.
red pants sounds like a metronome warrior. needs to work on bending to pitch instead of making his fingers move fast.
i think they way he holds the guitar makes it alot harder for him to have good bending controll
+Jakob Samani he wants to copy Guthrie's style of holding the guitar
His phrasing sounds nice to me, he should improve his vibrato and bending skills... Dynamic control as well
Being on the same stage with Guthrie must be like you can do everything stupid even touching a guitar.
What is the song they are jamming to. I get this mixed up with X Marks The Spot?
Excellent. Thanks for the info!
Herbie Hancock!
Great Jazz

Finalement c'est pas si mal, Suzanne Vega...
drummer far to busy
12/03/16??? Guthrie could time travel :0
