Hey! I would say it’s very easy actually to follow Guthrie. You usually see drummers doing it and it’s because Guthrie ideas are very clear (patterns, logical structure, incredible sense of rythm and obviously impolute technique). He’s a monster, analyzing his solos is like watching a chess game
Holy shit! Just when I think music can't surprise me anymore, there it is! I have just learned about Guthrie, I'm not even kidding, 10 minutes ago, have no idea I ended up on one of his youtube videos; WOW! His stuff with the fretless is just awe inspiring! Thank you sir, for renewing my faith and passion for music!
When I was a kid, I discovered Guthrie through this video and his lesson series. I still come back and watch them to this day. The Suhr / Cornford days or 'Erotic Cakes' era will always be my favorite. Such buttery tones - and to me, he is at the apex of his technical abilities at this time.
You've gotta love him because he's one of the best, but he's so humble... No vanity; just loves the music. I mean, he's playing in a bar in between the bingo for crying out loud. But he doesn't care :)
Mark Graham Indeed, very humble and intelligent, in the interview he said he had place to teach in Oxford, it's very delightful just to hear him speak.
Damn when I played this for college I wish I'd seen this video for that inspiration! Still, so glad to find my favourite guitarist of all time playing this!
I like the combination of instruments. Guitar+sax unison is a good texture, and guitar and hammond traditionally work well together. Shame it's so hard to find organ players.

11:02 are you having a laugh? That is insane, one of the best guitar solos I've heard...is it entirely improv? It's just insane that someone could come up with all of that on the spot (even if some are licks)
@@jensclarberg6419 i dont believe so. Guthrie sometimes messes up ultra rapid phrases cause he is trully making it up on the spot. He hears music in his head and plays it, simple as that
@@jensclarberg6419 and when i said it was random? When you talk you are taking words you know and creating something new with it every time. Making phrases in the spot. Almost never repeating yourself
@@BrunoGarciaMusic No lol, you use vocabulary that you've learned through repetition all your life. You don't make up new words and phrases every time you speak.
Arsalan Pervaiz Pinch harmonics: Hitting a note with a pick and then immediately pressing it with the fleshy part of the thumb. It isn't exactly that simple though, it takes a bit of practice to find the precise point on the string that provides the harmonic at the desired note. It varies from note to note just as natural harmonics do. Higher gain and certain pickups make it a little easier to find and create, though. Zakk Wylde and Dimebag Darrell are extreme examples of its use
The comment said Guthrie was influenced by sax players, because they're better musicians than guitar players. I was countering by pointing out that he covered a guitar tune, so apparently, we aren't all cavemen

By far Guthrie's favorite t-shirt
That one and his "this is NOT a photo opportunity " shirt
I guess I'm kinda off topic but does anybody know of a good site to stream newly released tv shows online?
Best fiver you'd spend all week watching these guys at the Bassment in Chelmsford on a Thursday night.
Insane pricing lol
No one talks about how good is the drummer! He plays accordingly on every musician's solo and following Guthrie is not easy
The great Pete Riley, I think!!
GG literally starts playing all ghost notes for like 24 measures at one point just to goof with the drummer. THE WIZARD LIVES ON!!!
