I've bought a rusty old van and I am getting it ready right now. My partner isn't sure this is such a great idea, thanks for your video! I said, "Look, a video just for us." Thanks for the encouragement. It's name is Frank, short for Frankenvan because it has a mismatch of doors and seats etc. :)
Your channel is such a safe haven for my life. You both have inspired me in so many ways and I hope one day to be able to have the kind of adventures that you both experience. I appreciate you both sharing your life with all of us!
Every time I get a notification of your uploads, I feel the warm and cozy vibes from you both and for a few moments my life is at peace and I feel like I am on whatever adventure with you both for that moment in time. Can't wait to get the ebook and stickers!
i love that you guys have gotten so big by never compromising and literally only becoming more genuine and skilled at your craft of creating. And not to mention your love for each other brb im crying its so inspiring.
I have an old english white 1964 MG Midget called Ethel and I go all over the place in her. She brings a smile to some many people's faces when I drive by and she brings a smile to my face just looking at her, let alone the pure joy of driving her. She's a bit battered and bruised which I won't be changing (no re-sprays, I love her battle scars!!), and I always need to be aware of what can break and spend half the time with the bonnet up or one side of her jacked up; but it's all part of the charm! Old cars are the best!!! My brother actually restores classic cars so there's loads of them around all the time. They have so much character and there's so little on them to actually go wrong...!!!
we have a 93 dodge caravan we love it . its not big like your's but it will do it is red and we call her lady bug , we are older i am 62 and my husband is 71. we been marry for 20 years and it fills like 2 . we in joy every day, you are so sweet to share the love with all of us (cudo's to you all)
this video is EVERYTHING. we miss our rusty old "Howlin' Yoweller," who we dubbed the Howeller (he was our European honeymoon mobile that we bought in England and traveled for 2.5 years across Europe and North Africa in - we wish so much that we knew of you back then). There IS something so sweet about an old van, and yes, they definitely have a personality 💗and they feel very protective... we always felt safe in him and perhaps it is because it never looked like it was anything worth steeling, etc. we returned to the US a year ago and now live in a van again, Spirit, short for "Spirit of the Howeller." such a sweet video made by sweet friends on the road that we just haven't met irl yet. sending you our love. bizes 😘
...also props to y’all for staying united in trusting your gut to sticking with the decision to buy older...so many well-meaning suggestions are based in fear/logic and sometimes (actually for me all the time) your soul tells ya what’s right and you end up going with your heart...important vid/message...slow down and trust:)
Beautiful description really is.. I've owned older just cars not campers and they have a charm, Ora and vibe that people connect to more so than the new pre made things. It's a joy to watch. Old Mercedes. These are bullet proof anyhow 🤙
You have identified all the reasons to love an older vehicle. Yes, it involves some nurturing but the vehicle responds to good care and keeps on going and giving back. There is another couple on UA-cam I’m very fond and it’s because they are taking a 1990 ford truck with a camper all the way from Alaska to Argentina. Leave Everything and Wander. The truck has constant breakdowns but the interactions with local people helping them is fantastic. Real love and caring happens and that truck takes them on 4WD roads to rural villages in South America less travelled. I have a 1991 Eurovan VW I love very much. She is strong and capable.
Old van - young people. Loved that remark. Ody is a dream - as you mentioned the love and joy Ody brings you is a dream. Humble people and humble things is the way to go. Loved this. Kind greetings from Switzerland you charming old dear hippies 🤣🤣🤣
Being a former mechanic I want to share some advice. Coolant (ethylene glycol) becomes acidic over time. A vehicles engine is composed of different metals. The acidic coolant acts as an electrolyte (like the acid in your cars battery). The dissimilar metal become anodes and cathodes (neg. and pos. Terminals in a battery). Electrolysis occurs between the dissimilar metals in your engine. This results in metal degradation, fatigue and wear. Such as what happened to my engines intake manifold. The steel thermostat is sandwiched between the aluminum upper radiator hose housing and intake manifold. The metal of the intake manifold dissolved where the thermostat sat. This resulted in a coolant leak that cannot be repaired without replacing the intake manifold. Flush your vehicles cooling system once a year.
i love having an old car no matter how much people talk trash about my car it’s so rewarding. Also my parents cars gotten broken into and stuff and my car was unlocked and untouched. the older it looks the less valuable it seems so ha
We have a 1973 Camper Van. It was already converted when new. We have had it for 20 years and driven 49 of the 50 states, and much of Canada too. We are not full time, but now retired and usually take 3 to 6 week trips. Alaska was 10 weeks. We often get friendly waves and thumbs up, and yes we drive slower and stop often in little places. We agree with your video.
.. I don't know if you guys are planning on ever having kids, but if so, those kids are going to be so freaking lucky to have you deep, grounded, intentional and thoughtful humans as parents.... taking all challenges and finding light in them. Thanks for your content. xx
From the minute the video started, I had a smile on my face and a few tears in my eyes. You guys built a great first home, had amazing adventures and Ody is so ready for many more years of being an "adventure-mobile" Counting the days until the next video and the e-book release!!!
Honestly I feel like I say this every time but you two are the most sweet humble pair, you are so natural and genuine. I don't know if you have any special voice over thing when you are doing your mic overs but your voices are both so calming I could listen to you read the phone book!!
My husband and I have a 30 year old RV. It’s not the prettiest thing (on the outside) but I fully renovated the interior. And we freaking love it!!! I love of old rusty things 💖☺️
Great Video. And I remember the video where your van broke down and those guys helped you fix it and you paid them with hand made stickers and they were happy just to help you guys out and that was the coolest thing ever to me and reminds us that yes, there are good people out there who just like helping people.
I love the message of this video and totally agree. I love old character packed story filled things too :) And how amazing that part about the men fixing the exhaust pipe. So heartwarming
We're on our first trip with our 21 year old van (we live in South Africa), and we've already had some problems, but this just gave me so much peace of mind and positivity! Thank you for your awesome videos!
I’ve got an old 70s van I’ve been considering restoring (dad bought new & lots of memories). You can bet I’ll be rewatching your old vids along every step of my process (lots of rust🤦♀️). But yea... so much nostalgia there. Thank You!!!
I'm a dirty young hippy too, hehe! When is merch coming? I'd love a simple tee with "wild we roam" written in a fancy font!! Then I can advocate your channel even more. Cutest UA-cam couple award goes too Dana and Lou
Awesome video, I absolutely loved the ODY build videos. I have rewatched them many times. I become so immersed in your videos especially the videos in the van it’s like I’m right there with you two enjoying the experiences along with you guys.
These old mercedes diesel vans are very reliable, ridiculously slow, but reliable. The main concern is rust, every other problem can be fixed🙂 Nice video👍 Been follow you guys a while, always fun to see what you are up to! Have a good one!
Aww guys, my sprinter is only 11 years old but I worry about it breaking/rusting all the time and this helped me feel so good about it! Love your outlook and your lifestyle, maybe bump into you in Europe sometime 🚐🌻
I just absolutely love this video, your style and that beautiful high vibe atmosphere you are creating 💛🌟💛 it warms up my heart and makes me dream even bigger 🌻🎀🌻 thank you soooooo much for this fabulous movie 🎬📽🎬 xxx
They have personality dependable, less emission problems. And you can repair most things, I have a 2002 Ford and I'm always having engine light displays. PC problems suck. I prefer vehicles in 70 s some eighties models. Vans are a work of art.
I expected so much less of this video when I read the title, this was SO WELL EXPLAINED and such good reasons to consider!!! I actually feel like by now I have built a relationship with Ody too. So if you should ever decide to get rid of him, I'd be super sad. 🙈 The shiny exterior/being robbed thing is so true for many things! When I moved to the Netherlands I spraypainted my bike in the craziest colors to make it look less new and more recognizable. Everyone's bikes got stolen every few weeks, I had mine for the three years that I was there :)
I love old vehicles because I can open the hood and actually see what the parts are. My hubbies 2017 suv has a complete cover on the engine and we have had so much computer electrical issues.
🙌🏻 love this. In May we bought a 1995 Class C. I know it isn't as old as Ody but from what I've read anything this old is considered "vintage". That was one of the things that I love about it - it's vintage look and charm. (I'm a little "vintage" myself 😁😉) It has already been a WILD adventure (some parts I'm pretty sure I could have lived without 😄) But what an adventure nevertheless. 💙🌼🧘♀️🧘♂️🏕☮🏖🛣🌠☀️💛✌🕉 Here's to many more magical moments for "dirty hippies" and their vintage vans!!
I fully agree with this, I love buying old vans or cars. I currently have a 24 year old Mazda Bongo and it's more the character that old ones have. I think a lot of the new vans look awesome and are so easy to make into homes but to me it should never be that easy. Other parts of older vans is that you can do more to fix them yourselves, like with the exhaust problem you had, aye it needed welded and reinstalled and I'm glad to see they copper coated it by the looks of i meaning it should really last but there are no or fewer sensors to stop you doing things or taking things apart or simply replacing them by yourself, the money you save and the satisfaction of doing it yourself it fantastic. As for your coolant flush, I recently flushed mine after I found a pipe had corroded through so I replaced it with plastic and hose instead which cost all in including the new coolant, 2 hours of my life and £60, to buy the new part that had corroded itself would have been £65 alone..! I would possibly do another coolant change though and use deionised water instead of tap water as the minerals in the tap water will eventually cause rust issues down the line, it will work in the meantime though.
What a heartwarming video. Love you guys. Wish I was traveling with you to all the wonderful places you visit. Especially like all the beaches in Greece.
Totally agree! Ours is not quite as old as yours, a 2001 Dodge high top, looks like a beluga whale in profile. So much character that you don't get with the newer ones. Plastic fantastics, LOL love it.
I've been looking at older vans lately and it can be very daunting. Sometimes you never know what you're going to get. I do have a question for my own reference, how many miles did the van have when you bought it? I go back and forth with what's a decent amount of miles so I'm trying to collect as much information from people with older vans. Thank you!
I always hope you guys will continue these awesome alternative lifestyles even after you stop traveling. Perhaps a tiny home or a treehouse. I wish you all the best in your next chapter
"a humble exterior” is always a good idea.
I have a really cool truck but since it's old and Rusty noone ever breaks in it
I loved hearing the meaning behind Lou’s whale tattoo. Now I’m thinking we need a tattoo tour!
Yeessss!!
Buying used is giving love to sustainability, love it
I've bought a rusty old van and I am getting it ready right now. My partner isn't sure this is such a great idea, thanks for your video! I said, "Look, a video just for us." Thanks for the encouragement. It's name is Frank, short for Frankenvan because it has a mismatch of doors and seats etc. :)
Stacy N Love the name haha
I love this!! All the best Stacy and go you for giving Frank a new life :)
😄😍 love the clever name for your van!
That is exactly what we were thinking @Stacy N! A video just for us. Good luck on your adventure to turn Frankenvan into a rolling home. :)
Wooo! Good luck on your new adventure with Frank!! Such a great name 🚐💕
“Plastic Fantastics!” Never heard that before. Cute and telling 😆 I love your videos.
Elsa Rhae your twin from another mother
Hahah @Elsa Rhae... We thought that too!
Dopplegangsters😉😉😎😎😍😍😄😄

I agree. Old vans are the best. We have an 1987 dodge ram camper van. Margarita has a lot of character and we made her our own.
Still my favourite channel on UA-cam. Rusty vans look fun!
I feel like I only end up watching your vids when I’m eating oatmeal
OMG I am eating oatmeal too 🙈
best comment
I could listen to you two talk all day. For me, it is always a time to slow down and appreciate life when I'm watching your videos. Much love!

Plus, this old van is giving you more great contents and stories for our viewing pleasure. Thanks, Oddy
your vlogs are so much more than travel....you encompass ethics and the human psyche...wonderful just wonderful

I got a 1984 van to get ready for the summer. It has given me some problems but I love it. I love the older exterior of the vans.
This video may me so happy! “Old van, young people. “♥️♥️♥️

Amazing I agree with Dana " a humble exterior, however you guys have humble hearts.
I really resonate with what you're saying here! I have an old camper that I'm full time in, and people offer so much help and kindness.

Beautiful story....
That Serbia episode is pure wholesomeness.

My van is 25 years old and I've had to fix things myself and I love it
FYI, change your antifreeze once a year unless you have a newer van and use the 5 year stuff!!!!!!

You got to love the old Vehicles some of the best ever made
I love old vehicles because I can open the hood and actually see what the parts are. My hubbies 2017 suv has a complete cover on the engine and we have had so much computer electrical issues.
You two are absolutely wonderful I really adore your channel thank you so much x

Oh wow, I have the same zebra necklace, its from the 80 or 90's, I love your van, it's nostalgic.
So beautiful! Love your style! Really well told story! Couldn’t agree with you more about old van! They have character!!
Love the story about Ody!
wow!! would love a video about all of Lou’s tattoos!
Loved this 3 seconds in! Personality and style are old vans, you guys are doing great.😎
I love Ody and I love your adventures. I always wonder why you chose to buy this van. Thank you for sharing.
RUSTY OLD VAN IS AMAZING.
People were kind because girl is beautiful.
I always hope you guys will continue these awesome alternative lifestyles even after you stop traveling. Perhaps a tiny home or a treehouse. I wish you all the best in your next chapter
old vehicles have a soul! are you keeping up with Ody's new adventures?
“Old” maybe, “vintage” definitely!
Another great video - thank you guys for sharing.
