    My incubus story.
In 1997, I was a "new to the industry" stagehand, and one of my first concerts I worked was 311 with Sugar Ray and this no name band Incubus. Incubus was in a conversion van and a uhaul trailer. I helped set up their drums after soundcheck.
    Cool show.
A couple of years later at Ozzfest 98, I see they're on the small stage, so me and my friends go see them (system of a down was on the small stage too ...lol). The drum tech recognized me, and we got to hang out on the side of the stage.
Then a few years later......they're on top of the world, and they headlined my home arena I first saw them open in 4-5 years before. I bought tickets to that show....and was so happy to see the progression of this band, full circle.
This past year at Welcome to Rockville festival, I got to see them play again, in front of 20+k people, and it was almost a spiritual thing.
Just thought I'd share.....there's no point to my story. Hahaha...... wait.. yeah there is ...they're great guys that make awesome music.

This album was released a few months after my sister passed. This song was an important part of the grieving process for my brother and I. Really??? I dont remember it like that. I guess because everyone I knew was so into Incubus, but they have over 23 mill albums sold. Their run in the spotlight was short, but I never thought of them as a "spotlight band" just and great f'ing band and was music their main gig per se??? They were all so multi-talented. Regardless 22 years later this whole album is still in my rotation.

To me, this is one of the most positive songs I have heard. Never related it to someone that was lost. I always found it coming to me, when I was centered, aware and happy. Wishing someone important was there with me to share it. The images he paints with the lyrics, are exactly like the seemingly trivial moments when you can just breathe in life and find the intrinsic beauty of the world you live in.

They recorded 'Morning View' (the album that this song is from) in a gorgeous beachside mansion. Some of the footage is from their time recording. Please react to 'Aqueous Transmission', the end of that song is just the sound of frogs who lived near the mansion. It's very chilled out and sweet. I LOVE this band so much! Also 'A Certain Shade of Green', 'Redefine' or 'Vitamin' from the album Science are amazing and very different, there's more experimental jazz in those songs. And the lyrics on that album are more existential. They were teenagers and all had dreadlocks during the 'Science 'era'. :D

The way you mentioned grunge throughout this reaction made something click for me. The beginning of the 90s is associated with grunge, and the world-wide exposure to the "big 4" (Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, AIC). By the end of the 90s, grunge was considered dead, Kurt was actually dead, and Layne would be dead soon (2002). When I hear this Incubus song (released in 2001) now, it reminds me of these artists lost in the 90s that I truly wish were still here, as well as so many others we've lost since then. I didn't have that perspective in 2001, but in 2020, it's there.

I'm amazed no one in the comments is really suggesting A Certain Shade of Green off of S.C.I.E.N.C.E. It's a huge departure from what you've heard of them so far and there's a music video to accompany it. They're so eclectic and have spanned so many genres within one band with only two-ish band member changes within 25 years of activity. They have an inane ability to blend genres and make it their own. Glad you're enjoying this group. They're my absolute favorite band.

Good morning Captain @Jamel_AKA_Jamal.. this song is a 1000000% cry to the Heavens For Those About we have lost in the antrum of living and wishing they were here for some of our happier and even darkest moments because they were always there for us and we miss him with all our hearts bodies and souls and this group just pointed that out so beautifully that the song will resonate for years to come because we all have someone in our worlds that we wish was still here thank you so much sir for opening up the world to us once again and to yourself it's amazing to watch you transform right before our eyes good man you are awesome stay healthy stay safe one step at a time and once again thank you from the bottom of everyone's hearts who's watching and learning from you and are able to relive some of our better moments in life because of you resonating with the music and then with us ourselves we are surely appreciative of all your hard work amen

I stmbled on you by mistake but I subbed! You get so involved in the songs and it's refreshing. You seem to forget that what you're doing is for others watching. And thanks for that, very entertaining!

Nice! Look up their AT&T wireless acoustic session from 2000. All the songs are amazing. It is mind blowing how good the whole set was. Hope to see reactions to some of the songs. Keep 'em coming. Merry Christmas 🎄

Incubus got really famous in 1999. They're definitely a 2000s band, but they formed in 1993. They were classified as heavy metal, as their earlier sound was much more raw and heavy. Brandon used to scream in some of their more experimental stuff early on but once he learned how to sing well it was on

I think it's just painting a blissful moment that you wish you could share with another person, but it can just as well be interpreted to be about a lost loved one. The archival footage is just them recording the album where the song is from. I recommend "Sick sad little world" from them.

My take on it is that he's singing about a lost love, good love that went bad. "You were my 'soulmate', wish you were here now that I've woken up..."

@Jamal_aka_Jamel I sent this song to my cousin who went into the service. Seth and I were very close and I just missed him. This song is so hopeful in nature and positive. I really hope you check out out Here in my Room and Aqueous Transmission by these guys. I've been a fan for a while and I'd see it as a personal favor if you listened to them, even if you don't react to them. Thank you for the joy you bring Jamel, I wish you nothing but the very best Brother. You're and honest and genuine guy and I love coming along with you for your journey. Peace be with you my friend 🙏.

This band, but this song in particular really gets me down/in my head but in a good way, especially the intro just makes me reflect even the lyrical content, I think we could all sing this to one person and truly mean it. For me it would be my childhood best friend, grew up across the street spent at least part of everyday over there, so many memories. Though he is not lost to this Earth, he is to me, haven't talked to him in at least 5 years think about it a lot but I can also accept that we may never speak again, just not quite ready to give up. Wish I knew if he still thinks about me (no homo).
