Captain Benzie, I’m sending you this message from my office in Saisio, which by the way is located in the Monument’s gift shop so I can better manage the snow globe inventory, and I was surprised to learn you had been in system and didn’t stop by to say hello. I’m really disappointed…
(Katia pauses for dramatic effect with an expression that matches her words. After a moment, her frown slowly turns into a smile as she chuckles at her own joke.)
I’m only poking fun.
Just so you know, not much escapes my attention due to my fellow Signaleers and friends of EvE-Scout and Signal Cartel. It seems you’ve produced a new video about my… even after five years it’s odd to say… about the Journey of Katia Sae Memorial monument. You’re not wrong, the achievement is still greatly surreal to me. When I set out on my journey, I did it for my own self-reflection. I never expected to finish, never expected to not lose a ship, and certainly didn’t expect the recognition that came with it.
Here at my five-year anniversary of the achievement, I’m still humbled by the recognition, and I hope I always will be. It’s one thing to be inspired by others, and there were a few that inspired me like Chribba and Mark726, but it’s another to inspire someone else. Weekly, I receive messages from both capsuleers and non-capsuleers alike how they’ve been inspired to explore, to see New Eden, to peacefully seek their own self-reflection. I still don’t know how to respond to those messages, but I can say it gives me hope about our future.
Thank you so much for your kind words and for taking time to self-reflect and share your thoughts about what the monument means to you.

I truly believe Katya's achievement trumps anything else that's happened in Eve. The sheer scale and commitment is impressive enough, completing the journey safely as well is just plain madness... Deffo my favorite bit of player driven lore, although... in her case - I think there are lessons to learn even for RL applications. Like - persistence can be a virtue, and clashing with others just to achieve your goals can be counterproductive instead.
Simply stopping by the memorial to contemplate what it actually signifies can be compared to a pilgrimage. It can be a humbling or an eye-opening experience. In my case it was both... Doesn't mean I'll stop pew-pewing though, as that's what I do. But for others - that's a quick and easy trip to visit arguably the most important Eve landmark there is. And perhaps get inspired to something equally great.

I know there are many that would argue that, but I'm glad to hear that. Thanks for taking a moment reflecting and sharing what it means to you. Responses like this continue to humble and I'm honored to have inspired.
What a neat video. I had heard something about a person visiting all the systems, but I wasn't aware of the details or really appreciated the scope of that until now. Things like this are what make EVE so special.

i havent played eve in over 9 years but i remember a station in null being named after a us marine that was killed while online defending a consulate . im wondering if the station is still there ?

There were many that I saw on my journey of player owned structures named in honor of Vile Rat. I'm not aware of an NPC station that's been renamed. However, in the upcoming EVE: War for New Eden board game, the community voted on cards to be added to the game and one for Vile Rat will be made.
