You left out why minmatar ships are some of the best combat ships in the game... It's because duct tape has no vulnerability. There's also it's resistance to all damage types 😎
I would point out that everyone had a heavy missile Drake fleet doctrines at one point. From NBS to NRDS corporations and alliances. You do still see heavy missiles in PVE Edit: Drones do have optimal and falloff ranges & tracking. If you ever actually played Eve Online; you'd know that. Also it is right in the information tabs in game if you read them. To summarize: turrets depend on optimal, falloff and tracking (radians/sec). Missiles depend on velocity, flight time, explosion velocity and explosion "radius". Drones have a velocity, max control range, optimal, falloff and tracking. Basically drones combine the strengths of missiles and turrets. Except for Sentry Drones which still don't fucking orbit our ships. Which is vexing as hell sometimes. Sentry Drones are literal "external" turrets for all intents and purposes.
While missile systems don't suffer from 'tracking' and their damage can't be mitigated by transversal velocity, the missiles still have explosion radius and explosion velocity that affects its application based on target's signature radius and velocity. E.radius and E.velocity differ between missile types but are also affected by ship bonuses, ship modules, and skills. In essence, one wants to have a small ship and move quickly (direction/transversal is irrelevant) to avoid missile damage and wants high E.velocity and low E.radius to apply damage with missiles. Also while it is not possible to get "under the guns" it is possible to either outrunning the missiles chasing you, as they do not so much have range as flight velocity and flight duration (range displayed on module is max range in straight line, moving target will require missiles to be launched closer), or outrun the missile explosion ie moving fast enough that even a missile that successfully intercepts the target cannot apply any damage to it. It also bears mentioning that missiles come in singular damage flavours: Mjolnir (EM), Inferno (Thermal), Scourge (Kinetic) and Nova (Explosive). There are no missiles capable of dealing multiple damage types at once, although one can load different missiles into different launchers to achieve hybrid damage, and there is also no other stat variance between different flavour missiles - for that T2-variant missiles such as Fury and Precision have to be used.

@Resurrected Starships Could you do a series about what would happen if the Zerg swarm from starcraft still under the control of the overmind invaded the star wars galaxy during the time of the Galactic Empire between the end of the star wars rebels series and the rogue 1 movie. Essentially they would be the big threat that Palpatine sensed instead of the vong.
I would like to mention that missiles can be grouped like guns in Close range and alpha variants. Rockets/Heavy Assault/torpedoes are the close range, high DPS variants. Light missiles/Heavy Missiles/torpedoes are the long range alpha variants. In addition missiles have a semi unique variant- undersized weapon’s. While other weapons have undersized guns all they are are lower range/lower dps/higher tracking variants. With missiles the undersized weapons are Rapid Light missile launchers and rapid heavy missile launchers. These weapons are characterized by medium range (between the close and long range weapons), high burst dps with a small clip size and long reloads. These weapons are designed to prey upon ships smaller than their size. They have great application but lack the sustained dps to take on ships of their own size.
Brian H the amount of information and data set up needed to launch one missile from one location A to B is astounding. At the speeds missiles go, they have to do constant adjustments, as every little wind sets it off by less than one degree, which could have them end up a mile from the intended target.
4:03 With some sort of gas that would make would make some sense because of Riley scattering but in space that makes no sense I would assume that the crystals are being used as a lens use the lens to make the focus of the laser most small at this point use that lens to make the focus of the laser most small at this point after all most lasers are not that high powers you only need a 1-watt laser to set something on fire because it is the energy density that matters
There's so much I could nitpick about the this video. It tells that there's turret tracking speed, but does not explain it (which is still ok). But it does not mention that there's explosion velocity and explosion radius for missiles. At 9:35 says that drones does not rely on tracking, falloff... But they do. Drones use turrets that have tracking speed, range, optimal range and so on. One last thing (and the most nitpicky): There's no rapid light missiles, there's just light missiles and 2 different class of missile launchers one can use them with.
Cool stuff. It's handy to hear or read about some of the weapons I haven't played around with much, like missiles and lasers. I love me some drones and railguns, though the Gallente ships are almost as ugly as the gold-plated crap Amarr puts out. Amarr is my favourite faction due to there sleek & elegant ships, but like missiles & railguns. Through lots for time & skills training, I managed to marry 2 & giving some unique options over Amarr players my not have.
If you fire a missile in space theres no atmosphere to slow them down that's why they would go faster than the missiles we use but also the missile doesn't have to waste energy fighting gravity
Nice video. A few missing bits. I don't think you mentioned missile versatility in damage type. With the exception of a few caldari hulls, on a missile boat you can choose precisely what damage type you seem fit. With laser locked to EM + thermal, hybrid to kinetic to thermal, only projectile offers multiple damage option, even if it's always mixed and the selection not as all-around as with missiles. Drone do suffer from tracking issues, not the ships one, but their one. Good luck hitting NPC frigates with a warden under 20km. Of course light drone can track almost everything, with heavy and sentries people often use application modules to have them hit smaller stuff.
In space there are no resistive forces, like air on earth. So that object in motion will stay in motion unless it strikes an object with more inertia or is captured by the gravity of a massive object.
Decided to watch your older EVE videos since there probably won't be a new one for a while. Neber though I'd see the day where Rapid Lights would be described as not having as much damage as Heavies or HAMs, when they outdamage Heavies on paper and both in practicality because of application.

Not trying to be a smartass, but there's a couple of things you mentioned, that I find slightly misleading. You mention Light Missiles and Rapid Light Missiles as separate missile types when it's actually same ammo, different launchers. That's a bit confusing. You also said that drones don't care about tracking - and this,I believe, is not the case. Drones do have tracking and they can start missing if they're moving too fast. There was a worm fitting my comrades were trying which had several drone navigation computers - the drones were very fast to catch up with the target, but at close range they applied about half damage because they were orbiting too fast to track decently. Also I'm pretty sure people managed to disrupt drones' optimal which is not very effective probably but it hints that the respective calculation does take place for drones.
Nice video are you going to do a video on my question on what Thrawn would do if he had no choice but to use a star dreadnought I know you said he would use an executor but I am curious what you would think on how he would outfit/customize it

I have a Megathron I outfitted with railguns, but it's been years since I have played. Thinking about getting back into it. Wonder if there's a corporation that has alot of members in Houston, TX.
This is a good intro to the weapon systems but becouse of how they apply there dmg i would strongly recommend new players to look up a more detailed guide to how missiles really work becouse while missiles and rockets cant miss the target unless u shoot at a target to far away that dosent mean u actually deal any dmg atall. It is very possable to deal single digit dmg with missiles and rockets even though they will always clean hit your target. Understanding missiles explosive velocity and explosive radius is very important if u wanna use them.
Okay okay.... You made me sound so bad... I am a heartless capsuleer... But never have I ever intentionally left. Drone okay.... No need to personally attack me.
An interesting thing to conceptualise is that if your thinking realism, shouldn't firing off a "projectile" weapon in space mean that the projectile never finishes its trajectory? Infinitely flies in to the blank of space forever and ever?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the lasers should be visible to a camera (dependant on wavelength/frequency), making the "laser light show" realistic. Take infrared for example, an infrared light can be seen on camera while invisible to the naked eye.
Yes, but what he's referring to is the "light beam" effect we usually associate with lasers. Ideally, the laser should be completely invisible to someone standing off to the side - every ray goes straight from the source to the target. If there are obstructions in the way, for example smoke or dust, some rays are scattered off the intended path and may be bounced into an eye or a camera lens. This makes the beam visible. In space, where there are few of these obstructions, this is very unlikely. This applies to all wavelengths of light, though what materials will obstruct the light changes depending on the wavelength. For example, visible light is blocked/scattered by dust, while radio isn't - this is why radio astronomy is considered such an important tool.
@@coffeestainedwreck AFAIK, in Eve, the explanation for visible laser beams is that they're actually invisible to the naked eye, but you're not looking at them with a naked eye. The onboard computer of your ship and/or implants in your player character's brain draw the beams for your convenience. Basically, they're part of the user interface together with all the buttons.

So I'm going to play this game sir. I'm seeing that an arttie/ missile or arttie/ blaster type will be up my alley (if expensive) what faction and ship types use these two combinations at the CA, BB, or DN level?
What about this new rebalancing of units. If ppl have the time comment if this alters the hvy cruiser, battleship, Battlecruisers, and or dreadnaught classes. I'm thinking of a hvy cruiser BB fleet build up for myself (18 months min) for a combo anti piracy/ mining defense fleet.
@@brianjohnson5272 I don't know what you mean lol.. read the latest patch notes for whats been changed. Essentialy close range brawling ammo (rage missles etc. have been boosted by 15% while reisst modules have been hit with a 20% nerf.

The more I think about it, the damage types make sense except for missiles. Makes sense: - lasers only deal EM & thermal damage - hybrid turrets only cause thermal & kinetic damage - projectiles cause kinetic, thermal (HEAT penetrators like in tank shells), EM (used against shields) and explosive (HE) damage Doesn't make sense: - missiles cause kinetic damage (while this is technically possible, it would be useless with targets running away) - missiles in EVE, unlike air-to-air missiles, don't anticipate the trajectory (if they did, their tracking speed could be infinite) and just head straight for the target, and just like ships... ...don't turn off their thrusters even if the vector stays the same. And then, how the heck is EM damage applied to armour? EM damage makes sense when it comes to disabling shields, but armour? Also, what's the science behind lasers dealing EM damage, by the way?
@@Krzeszny95 For some it does, for example lasers and thermal. But when a laser does EM, then yeah... there probably isn't much of a scientific explanation there.
Sometimes, but its rare. You see the first ship on this, the Stabber, had autocannons and rapid light missiles. But RLM's dont have optimal or falloff range. Same with drones, you can have turrets along with drones. All combat tactics are based at staying at your optimal weapon range, if some of your weapons have different optimal ranges than others then you can never apply all of your weapons maximum damage on the target at the same time.
Don't use small hybrid weapons. I know the DPS is very appealing to new players, but you have to be within 3km of your target for them to do damage anything above 0 damage. Outside of PvE, being that close is a death sentence. And even in PvE, it's incredibly annoying having to fly over to each individual enemy, can add extra minutes to a fight of doing nothing except chasing them and tanking damage. Best only start using them when you can feasibly equip medium hybrids or higher.
Small hybrids aren’t straight up bad as you make it out to be, in fact, outside of pve(where you say they aren’t good), blasters are one of the more popular ships for frigates, and rail guns are good in both pvp support ships, and sniping out npc ships.
Decent begginer video but you made drones and missiles sound much more complicated compared to turret weapons when in fact missiles are the simplest weapons to use, you basically have long and short range types, that's all. Example autocannons are short artillery is long, rockets are short missiles are long .. drones are short sentries are long. This is a simple way of understanding and once I got it the rest are just naming conventions , like for example rockets and torpedos are the same just different size, like you have small medium and large autocannons , rockets are the small size variant and torpedos are the big sized ones, assault variants are the medium sized ones l, it's just the naming that confuses everyone .
Totally Skipped AT (Smartish) Missiles? Clearly, you have never actually used Missiles. Additionally Rapid Light- Are just a ripple launcher for light missiles same as Light missiles just a faster ROF and slower Reload time, Rapid Heavy- Are just Ripple launcher for heavy missiles, the reload time on these is murder which is why they shouldn't be used in prolonged engagements. Yep, you don't know missile boats, Bombs are Anti Cap weapons as are Torps for the most part, or Anti structure. When it has to come down right now send a flight of five Torpedo ravens and it'll come down.
Lol know im a bit late but if you train up multi targeting you can lock on to multiple targets but only fire at one so but once that target is destroyed you can instantly fire on the next one.

So I'm going to play this game sir. I'm seeing that an arttie/ missile or arttie/ blaster type will be up my alley (if expensive) what faction and ship types use these two combinations at the CA, BB, or DN level?
dont forget to get your free million skillpoints :D
What about this new rebalancing of units. If ppl have the time comment if this alters the hvy cruiser, battleship, Battlecruisers, and or dreadnaught classes. I'm thinking of a hvy cruiser BB fleet build up for myself (18 months min) for a combo anti piracy/ mining defense fleet.
@@DJ_Kie oh? OH! OMG I'm finally being TROLLED?! What kept you?
@@brianjohnson5272 I don't know what you mean lol.. read the latest patch notes for whats been changed. Essentialy close range brawling ammo (rage missles etc. have been boosted by 15% while reisst modules have been hit with a 20% nerf.
@@DJ_Kie thanks for the info. I am studying to play atm my comp is too old and to well dead. I'm buying a new comp soon hopefully a laptop as I do many gaming things IRL outside my home. I looked up EVE specs and was surprised that it needs a high end laptop to play. Is that true? If it is I may reassess and grab a mid end tower and just use a junk top to run my pathfinder stuff.
Long range smart missiles in eve are a swarm of wolves
How did I miss this for 6 months?
The more I think about it, the damage types make sense except for missiles.
Makes sense:
- lasers only deal EM & thermal damage
- hybrid turrets only cause thermal & kinetic damage
- projectiles cause kinetic, thermal (HEAT penetrators like in tank shells), EM (used against shields) and explosive (HE) damage
Doesn't make sense:
- missiles cause kinetic damage (while this is technically possible, it would be useless with targets running away)
- missiles in EVE, unlike air-to-air missiles, don't anticipate the trajectory (if they did, their tracking speed could be infinite) and just head straight for the target, and just like ships...
...don't turn off their thrusters even if the vector stays the same.
And then, how the heck is EM damage applied to armour? EM damage makes sense when it comes to disabling shields, but armour? Also, what's the science behind lasers dealing EM damage, by the way?
At some point you have to leave science aside for good game mechanics lol
@@baldas-msul-8847 I'm not done yet. How do you damage shields with heat (thermal)???
@@Krzeszny95 Again, it's for the sake of game mechanics, not realism.
@@baldas-msul-8847 I know that. It works in terms of gameplay but I'm just wondering if there's a sci-fi explanation for damage types.
@@Krzeszny95 For some it does, for example lasers and thermal. But when a laser does EM, then yeah... there probably isn't much of a scientific explanation there.
Never played the game but this was an interesting video nonetheless.
''Wait father...'' :( poor baby, i love drones and when im getting wreck i leave out my drones and they dont get smashed XD
Don't judge me, but I think Drones are cute :P
drones DO suffer from delay to deliver (non-sentry), tracking, optimal range, falloff...
Beam lasers ftw!
Disintegrators for the win.
do people in the game ever experiment with mixed load-outs?
Sometimes, but its rare. You see the first ship on this, the Stabber, had autocannons and rapid light missiles. But RLM's dont have optimal or falloff range. Same with drones, you can have turrets along with drones. All combat tactics are based at staying at your optimal weapon range, if some of your weapons have different optimal ranges than others then you can never apply all of your weapons maximum damage on the target at the same time.
where was this video years ago :D
Alpha strike?
Drones do one damage type only... not two..
Hmmm... strangely planet commander...
Drones don't suffer from Tracking? Tell that to my Ogers?
The only reason I abandoned my drones because my enemy was about to screw me and I didnt have enough time to get them :c
Im only 2 weeks in the game and im already doing Hacking

Alpha strike?! I know that term! That's MechWarrior term for FIRE EVERYTHING!
Sir! There is an enemy! What should we shoot at them with!
*Yes*
Cool! Is it free to play?
yes
Free to play yes with optional sub
@@chaosakazero On what system?
Yes, for the first few months. Which is more than enough to find out if you want to play it.
RLMLs are short range weapons.
Not really. HAM's are close range missiles. RLML are medium-long range with hig RoF but long reload.
In eve echo I have 4 drones and I treat them like my babies
this video I will look to in order to choose my weapon systems in eve which I do play

@@resurrectedstarships nice. Thanks.
I thought you can only target one ship at a time as thats what everyones been telling me hence I stop playing the game?
Lol know im a bit late but if you train up multi targeting you can lock on to multiple targets but only fire at one so but once that target is destroyed you can instantly fire on the next one.
Please look up how to pronounce projectile. there are no u's or h's in the word
You missed ze neutz!
