I've not seen that before. The fans at Lansdowne recognised it as well. Seeing these monsters of men taking a knee to a leprechaun was quite something. More power to their elbows.
Being an Irish fan and also being brutally honest, yes, it could have been a red. There was no real mitigation though as it wasn't an aggressive tackle might be the reason he got away with it. I would not have been surprised if it was a red. As for it affecting the game itself, no disrespect to Fiji but with 14 men Ireland might have won by 15 instead of 35. In fact during Prendergasts time in the naughty chair, Ireland were playing as if they had 15, scored a try and were close to another one. They were basically overwhelmed by a far better organized Ireland. Just a quick nod to Scotland, they were on fire against Australia.
Comparing prendergast's offence , where turned his back to block the chase and caught the guy with his shoulder, definite yellow ( no force, he wasn't advancing) to last week where the same whingers were saying Crowley was milking it after a full on charge to the head is quite halarous. The same people who wanted Prendergast to be sent off also didn't think the Argentinian should have been even penalised 😂😂😂
See I didn’t think Crowley milked that at all. But even though Prendergast incident wasn’t intentional. Probably the force of it that kept it at yellow…
Well said mate. Ireland took huge criticism on that. Everyone hates the Irish now. That what happens when you have the temerity to start winning games.
He was blocking and the Fijian was falling. Not a deliberate shoulder to face despite the Fijian going down like he was shot it is was low danger. Ireland were still dominant when he was off field, scoring a try while he was on bench. So I don’t agree that it would have change the result much. I did like that the two debutants including first start Prendergast brushed off mistakes and didn’t let the affect their performances. Great mindset. Thought Henshaw pipped Aki for man of match.
More than enough comments on what colour Prendergast's card, should or should not have been. Going to comment on the boys' passing ability. Specifially his timing when taking it to the line. He has a lot to learn yet. But by god does that kid have timing. His skills off either hand and his ability to put people into gaps and appear like he has all the time in the world to do it, is a rare thing. On top of that, unlike Crowley or Frawley, when Prendergast plays the Sexton Loop makes its appearance again, and that really does make a huge difference to Ireland's attack for exactly the reasons mentioned in this video. He does have the makings of truly top class 10.
Prendergast was a very lucky boy not to blow his first start, another day it could have easily gone the other way. Saying that he proved that he is well able for the big hits and himself and Frawley worked really well. Far from perfect but with so many changes it was a pretty together performance over all. Stockdale to be fair I had doubts about his defense he was excellent as was Osbourne, sadly both injured with hamstring and ACL it looks like, gutted for them both. Ireland improving week on week even with rotation and blooding new players. Fiji were for the most part just off, but man can they hit hard, giving away 18 penalties was never going to end well for them, lucky Ireland did not put several more scores on them. Aussies next week will be a belter, with Joe Schmidt back in town looking for another scalp.
You keep saying a shoulder charge, it is was not a shoulder charge, there was no charge. It was a block. his back was turned, the only impact was the momentum of the Fijian as Prendergast was static at time of impact. If you look at normal speed he was turning toward the movement of the ball. Professional foul, yes, penalty and yellow card yes. Red card, definitely not and would not have been any different if had been done by a Fijian.
Id also say the first yellow was given for a legit tackle, unless it was for a player without the ball even then its just a peno. Tho the argument could be made for a team yellow. I can only imagine the SA 'Rugby's gone soft' brigade if the bokkes were even penalised for the prendergast yellow 😂
Thought we played ok but still not hitting our highlights. Sam Prendergast was lucky but my only guess is that it lacked any force. Thought we kind of lost our shape when JvdF went off. Would have been game on if the Fijian “short of the line” effort was given. Gus McCarthy played well, some errors at lineout but his open play was spot on

how many pens and late hits as well as high ones did the Fijians get away with??? At the end of the day some of the hits put in were mental and the only one people are calling out is the one Irish hit... I totally agree, Prendergast should have seen red. I'm Irish, but he got a hometown decision there, no doubt. Even after he came back, his next action was to stuff a kick to the corner from 15m out into the dead zone. A more difficult version of that was enough to end Billy Burns' Ireland career. Then, two minutes later, he massively overcooked a simple kick into touch on the full. He did get better, but perhaps the Dublin media might just put the anointing oil back on the shelf for a bit.
Billy Burns dead ball kick was the last action in a 6 Nations decider. Nothing comparable to Prendergast. Name one outhalf who hasn't kicked a penalty dead.
So you are saying that the refs are corrupt, that is a real issue I take that up with the league officials unless they are corrupted as well, then where does all this stop , or maybe it was just a yellow card offence.😅
I am still here 😊 I agree re red. It was not huge impact but I see no mitigation. Having said that Ireland were better than them a man down. They would have beaten them anyway due to 20 min red card

Nerves was an issue for them at times. Ire had some great flow moments for sure & the young lads did impress, even though there were inexperienced moments. Moving in the right direction & maybe not as doom & gloom as advertised a few weeks ago. SA, FRA, NZ, ARG, IRE & SCOT OZ ENG close by or the many variations of that. Good rugby times ahead.
