    Jealous of Europe's awesome food system. Step it up America.

    I do not want to say anything bad about the food in America (if you want to find something healthy, you will), but everything has sooooo much sugar and the portions are HUGE! btw, i do not go out that often, but when I do i almost never order appetizer, the meal itself and a desert; in my opinion its a lot for one meal and sometimes quite expensive, so I definitely understand and support you;)

      I totally agree! Whenever I travel abroad it is a great reminder of how HUGE our portions, eyes and stomachs have become! So unfortunate!

    I recently traveled to Europe and ate ALLLLL the carbs- I’m happy to say I didn’t gain even 1 pound! Today I’ll tell you how I did it! Remember to do what works for YOU mentally and physically- balance is going to be different for everyone. Share your healthy travel tips below and remember to #bekind to others! I love you!

    Going abroad is the main reason I was able to start the weight loss journey i'm on today. After being in the EU for 3 months I realized how happy I could be eating wholesome, unprocessed food. Also love the part about walking everywhere instead of being stuck in a cab; I met so many wonderful locals this way!

    Its much easier to eat healthy in France, lots of options and Paris is really made for walking or biking. My mother still lives there so i am accustomed to it. I notice, like you, that i eat more slowly there than here. What arrondissment did you stay in.? One thing, in France it is not usually to carry away your leftovers. Did you manage to do this? Do they do it in England? Nice videos!

    Your American bread issue may actually be the dough conditioners (they are often premixed into the flour so they aren't always in the ingredient list). I'm sensitive to certain polysaccharides and they are everywhere and cause the same symptoms that you described.

    I'm normally a huge fan of yours, but I have to say I'm severely disappointed in your use of language in this video. "give it to a bum" ??? homeless people are individuals who for one reason or another are marginalized by society, they are at an increased risk of suffering from physical and mental illness, and for you to just name them as "bums" is incredibly damaging.

    Most countries outside of the US also have only grassfed, anti-biotic and hormone free animal products and sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup, so people visiting from outside the US/Australia/Canada who are used to that are more likely to gain weight, while someone from those countries might be able to eat more without gaining weight :P

    MUCH harder to eat well in US. Esp. some areas in the country. Easier in a bigger city than a little town too. Make it a small Southern town and it is REALLY hard. BTW, I like Smart water bottles are great, reusable and cheap. Yes, I walk much more on any trip.

    Oooh that's why Americans are obsessed with the gluten free thing. It's not really a thing here in France... well unless you're Celiac, which is very rare. I'm not a huge fan of french cuisine but man we know how to make bread!! I have always thought that American bread looks like cake haha

    • @MindOverMunch
      @MindOverMunch  8 років тому +1

      I don't know if that is why Americans are obsessed with gluten free (most people are not actually Celiac and may have been a bit misguided) but it is undoubtedly true that the quality of wheat in America is terrible compared to what you have access to.

    I live between Sri Lanka and Australia and I stay with my Sri Lankan Families and I ALWAYS feel MIUCH HEALTHIER in SRI LANKA. The grocery stores in Sri Lanka dont have as much variety as Australia. Most often if the produce is not in season, then you cant buy it, unless you know the few that does hehe, so the produce is much fresher too and in season. The produce even tastes much better and real there

    • @elle-iza
      @elle-iza 6 років тому

      Jan Armentrout Our war veterans are rareley homeless (at least in the part of Europe I am from), they are taken care for by the state.
      No need to be touchy about her choice of words, though. Since you probably would not be happy to eat the leftovers from another person's plate why would you literally give it to a bum? Those people deserve respect, too, not by making a dance about how to call them, but by given their own food instead of chewed up leftovers, or by being treated as a grown-up oersond, getting a little money and decide for themselves what they want to buy. :)

    I'm going inter-railing around Europe for 3 weeks over the summer and staying fit and healthy has been a big concern of mine! I usually always take my running gear with me on holiday and I don't tend to like to drink either, so I can get up early and go for a run, explore the city and its parks before everyone I'm with gets up (as they're not into exercising) and I find that this helps me stay on track, I don't loose my fitness, keep motivation to make good choices while away and it doesn't cut into anytime that could have been used doing the touristy things that you're away to do! This video was very helpful, thank you for the tips!

    I personally disagree with your total thought process of what health is. The fact that you made a video telling people how to handle a "cheat" day is absolutely insane, and I feel the same about this video. There should be no such thing as cheat days because ALL foods are fuel! Sure, they metabolize differently, but I feel like you may overthink this too much. It's not "off track" if you eat a cookie one day, because it's only one day and you don't need to beat yourself up for it. Also, 1 hour at the gym almost everyday is great! Even if you sit down for the rest of day, your body doesn't desperately NEED to be on its feet all the time. I used to love your videos before I realized how much your tips seem to be directed to people with eating disorders. I hope you're still balanced and healthy, both mentally and physically.

    • @MindOverMunch
      @MindOverMunch  8 років тому

      I'm so sorry you feel this way. I try really hard to host an environment where people can feel welcome to share what works for them, and be open minded enough to recognize that it won't work for everyone. I myself have struggled with disordered eating, and this is my channel, so I can only share what I personally know, especially in personal videos like these. You are entitled to your opinion and I encourage participation and discussions on this channel, but the force by which you are sharing it makes me feel like this may not be the community for you. I'm so sorry you aren't enjoying the videos anymore. The fact is- being healthy is hard for a lot of people, including myself. If it's not hard for you, great! But that isn't the case for everyone.

      +Mind Over Munch I apologize, I didn't mean to be so harsh. I was just getting frustrated and I shouldn't have left the comment at all, because it wasn't nice. You seem like a very motivated person, so don't stop what you're doing. I can't agree with everyone, but I don't need to leave a mean comment about it. :( really sorry

      I can't tell you how much I appreciate your reply. Your comment did hurt my feelings because I try really hard to put out positive and encouraging content. I will take what you said into consideration, I know you didn't mean for it to come out the way it did, and I always appreciate feedback and constructive criticism. Thank you for proving to me that this community is as wonderful as I think. Much love

    Loved this video! So helpful. I loved your point about food being wasted even if you eat it when your body is full or doesn't want it. I never thought about it that way and I'm sure many others haven't either. Kudos to you, as usual! 😊

      @MindOverMunch  8 років тому

      Thank you :) It took me a while to come to that realization, too. I have always been someone to eat everything on my plate, but it took some time for me to realize I was using the "I don't want to waste it" line as an excuse to finish it when I didn't need it. It's been a journey but I'm learning :)

    Preach sister!! It's lovely to hear your US take on the difference between US/European food 😊 I moved to the US from Europe 2 yrs ago and really struggle with the food options here! My normal Euro diet of lots of bread, dairy etc was making me so sick here! Sugar in the butter!? What the feck! And the food here NEVER goes mouldy... what is in it!? I miss EU enforced food standards! Great video!! 🤗

Should have seen your videos 3 weeks ago 😄 I gained about 3 pounds which is fine as I enjoyed it and hopefully will get rid of it soon again. I found it hard that different portions are on the different packages of food (here on Ireland it's usually always 100g).Will def follow your tips next time!👍🏻👍🏻

    Hey guys! I'm totally confused and I can't help it anymore. Please help! I've been researching stuff about veganism for more than a year already and still can't figure out this one thing.
    When I watch "What I ate in a day as a vegan" of different vegans , I see pretty much the same things (of course). And here's what I dont get: based on those videos, there're people who watch their portions, don't indulge in nuts and too much fats, don't overdo on vegan desserts and processed stuff and even vegan junk food and they work out BUT why aren't they super skinny? Why they all look average just like those who eat all kinds of food?! (i mean junk, meat, dairy....processed and cooked stuff)Especially raw people?! How come they aren't skinny but even have some fat?
    Im strongly considering veganism for myself but Im afraid of gaining weight which is a strong issue for me. Could you please give some information on this matter?Thanks in advance.

    • @MindOverMunch
      @MindOverMunch  8 років тому

      I suggest doing some research beyond UA-cam and What I Eat In A Day videos- Veganism is a lifestyle and a plant based diet can certainly be healthy but needs to be carefully approached to ensure you are getting the necessary nutrients. People can gain weight on a vegan diet just like people can on any other diet- if we consume more energy (calories) than we expend, we can be prone to gain weight. There are also many different approaches to a vegan diet- many choose higher fat, and many choose higher carb. Different macronutrient ratios will work for different people and you'll have to find what's right for you. But overall I really urge you to spend a good amount of time doing your own research before making a decision AND make sure you are making the decision for the right reasons. Much love!

    I was just wondering, when you eat a treat meal (I learned that from you, like it way more than CHEAT meal) instead of a whole meal, let's say a danish when you're really hungry, doesn't that effect your blood sugar and you will be even more hungry afterwards?

    • @MindOverMunch
      @MindOverMunch  8 років тому

      It very well may, but hunger is going to vary by the person, and for a lot of people it's mental. You have to find that balance between eating what you want and making sure you're full, but I was eating PLENTY of food even with the two full meals a day. Plus we always grabbed a coffee and/or afternoon tea with a treat, I wasn't ever hungry :)

    I have a trip to California in August (first time flying, eeeeek) and this helps me so much. Thanks for this. Also, glad to know you use AirBnB. Friend of mines told me about it months ago and I've been skeptical. But I've been a loyal subscriber to you for awhile now, so I trust your judgment. It hasn't steered me wrong when it comes to food, so I know it wont with that :)

      I hope you have fun! I LOVE California, it's so amazing! I have used airbnb at least 15 times with success! My advice when using it is to make sure you stay somewhere that has reviews- I only look for 5 star reviews and the more the better. If there are no reviews or if it is a new listing I stay away from it just because you never know. I always email the person beforehand to feel it out and make sure it's a good fit :)

    Hi Alyssia :D
    I loved this video, this is always something I get nervous about for an upcoming trip- ruining my diet beyond repair. I recently traveled to Costa Rica and was able to help my body out by booking tours that involved walking anywhere from 2 to 7 miles, as well as doing pool exercises instead of just lounging at the pool.
    I'll be going to Mexico soon, and will keep these in mind as sharing would have been a good idea that I didn't think of on my last trip.
    I'm going to take a look through your videos to see if I can find anything about starting to run/jog, but if there's not one, I'd love to see a video with some tips. Getting into running is super difficult right now, and I always get a very annoying pain near my shins that keeps me from continuing to jog even if I'm not tired yet. Weird.
    Anyways thank you!

    The main reason you can eat bread in most other countries is because they do not use enriched flour. But in America we do and that is what makes everyone sick, not gluten unless you actually have celiac disease and were diagnosed with it. But I know this bc I was sick all the time until i stopped buying bread and foods with enriched flour. I also lost 42 lbs. after doing so with NO excercise. I have spinal problems so walking is about all I can do and not for long, but on my better days I take advantage of longer walks. I have completely cut out this toxic flour and it is in EVERYTHING so you have to read every label..which I never did before but now I am like a maniac about my labels and my Dr. could not believe my progress mainly bc I don't really have the ability to excercise bc of my spinal problems. I wish I could start a petition to stop the production of enriched flour bc its also one of the #1 contributors to causing diabetes.my post is so long sorry but i try to spread the word about this horrible enriched flour garbage.

      Wow! Great suggestions, thank you for sharing. Congrats on your success! I've found that most wheat, even if it is whole and not enriched, still seems to bother me. I've read a lot about the quality of wheat in North America just not being as prime as in Europe, unfortunately! :(

    I would love to have the travel tips when you're not on vacation... like choosing food from rest stops and gas stations (I find that a struggle)... and travel days when you're stuck in airports or a moving car all day. Drinking water then is super important as well, I learned. We took yearly 18 hour drives to see family and we finally got our routine figured out. My boys (then aged 4 and 6) learned to enjoy drinking from water bottles in the car during those drives.
    Any tips from you are great... I've learned a lot and am figuring out how to adapt to my personal needs.
