From the POV. of a graphic designer, Colours absolutely have 'feels' just as fonts do. Using 'creamy' as a descriptor touches on both the feel of a colour as well as the feeling of an ink as you put it to paper. Its absolutely a good descriptor.
Thank you so much for this. This makes me feel so much better!
I am a color junkie and new to the ink world, so this was fascinating and beautiful! Thank you!
Aww thank you!
Incredible how many browns there are but all with different characteristics. Beautiful!
Right?! Brown is a sleeper colour - not as popular but soooo different.
P.S. These two pages of swatches look gorgeous to me!!! And thank you for swatching them all!!!
@@roxannemaguire5826 thank you! These were so fun to do!
This video solidified my favorite brown inks that I have purchased.....lol. (Caffe Crema, Lie de the and the grn/brn ink that I'm hoarding as well Ina Ho.). Thank you for sharing. By the way, my hubby didn't want dogs but he fell in love as well. However, when they cost us extra money, make a mess in the home and/or rushing to get home to let them out, I get blamed for wanting dogs...lol.
I'm glad I'm not the only one with a husband who fell in love with the dog he didn't want!
I love these videos! Very relaxing and zen. When I started my ink collection, there were two colours I never thought I'd enjoy in my pens: brown and grey. Then I had to get Writing Desk and picked up a sample of Herbin's Stormy Grey. I could not have been more wrong - I LOVE these colours in an ink!
They're so relaxing to do, Lene. Probably one of my favourite videos to film! And so funny how inks we think are boring become some of our favourites over time.
I love this so much... This makes me want to swatch all my browns like this. Soooo many wonderful colors. I do have Espresso but have never inked it up. I want to try to ink a different brown each month and then rate them. Thank you for so much inspiration.
Swatching inks is just so relaxing and so fun! Do it!
@@KarynaLovesToPlan I find it very therapeutic.
I'm definitely going to. I like how you marked out the areas first. I'll probably post it on Instagram. 😊
Browns have become a dangerous category to browse, I seem to like all of them 😂 If you ever want to try a 'cold' dark brown, I have been loving Dominant Industry 'Winter Wood' recently. My Diamine Colosseum looks exactly like the picture on the Cult Pens website and not at all like yours 😅 Yours look almost like 'Summer Sunset', another CP exclusive Diamine ink. Still pretty, though. Don't worry about your adjectives/descriptors, your descriptions of the inks make total sense! Thank you for the lovely video 😊
I've wanted to try Winter Wood - need to add that to my list. Good to hear that maybe my Colosseum could have been a mislabel. And thanks for the feedback on the descriptions - glad they're helpfu!
What a gorgeous collection of browns. It’s so interesting when they’re put all together how very different they end up being even though sometimes individually you could swear they are the truest of browns 😆 The red browns are so red compared to all the rest. You have me looking at FWP Queen and Castle again now cause it looks so yellow gold in swatches I’ve seen but in this company of browns it shows out. Swatching inks does not fail to fascinate me.
Thank you, Grace! Swatching inks is so relaxing and fun. We need to do an ink swap!!!
@@KarynaLovesToPlan Oooh! I'm up for that! 💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽
@@wildlyimaginable send me a message on Instagram! Yay!
You know I loveeeeeee this video. I love me some browns. You make me want to buy all the browns 😂
@@elizajournals thank you! And sorry not sorry?! 😂
Hi Karyna!!
Those are some nice browns. The BOC Fox Squirrel is a nice light brown. One I will have to try one day. The Document Brown has always dried a pink/red for me when I use it. Diamine Chocolate Brown is a very nice “brown” one of my favorites.
I like how the Diamine Coco Shimmer looks. It’s light but still nice and the shimmer works with it.
Your adjectives work for me. I’m not all that different when I try to describe inks. Sure Diamine won’t hire me to describe inks but that’s alright.
Diamine Weeping Willow I find challenging to describe as a brown. But a light brown is the best way to describe it. It’s still a decent color. Maybe not my favorite but it’s not bad.
The Kelp Tea is amazing how it behaves. Going down a completely differently color and drying to a brown. The weeping willow does too. A lot of sheen for both inks.
I really like the shimmer of Yule log. Probably my favorite or one of my favorite shimmer colors. It’s sharp.
The FWP majestic maple syrup is a nice ink. The shimmer is
Writing desk is sharp. The green sheen works with the dark brown base.
Moonshine is difficult to describe as brown or even a dusty pink but that’s the only thing that comes to mind to describe it. At least right now.
“Radioactive Orange” that’s good. In the bottle it does look like that when you say it.
Diamine Colosseum definitely looks like a peach color.
Fun video.
Have a great day!!
Thanks Courtney! Amazing how all these different inks look so different once all on the same page together.
Diamine Vintage Copper is one of my favorite Shimmer inks and Diamine Spiced Apple. I might use those this fall a lot haha I also have a bottle of Lie de The' coming in the next couple days. I hope to like it! I'm going to try it in my M1000 Renaissance Brown.
OOh thanks for the recommendation with Vintage Copper and Spiced apple!
You make me want to re-explore my browns
@@mshaunplans do it! 😂
Diamine Chocolate Brown is my current fave, but I've seen some interesting colours on this!
Yes you need to try a few!!
Diamine caramel sparkle is my daily writer. When put along all these browns it looks really vibrant, but by itself it just looks...brown, with a subtle sparkle. I also have Terracotta, but don't use it as much, it's in direct competition with Ancient Copper, and that one always wins.
It's amazing how all these inks look when grouped together like this vs on their own.
Pilot and Robert Ester caught my eyes ❤
Both fantastic!
Interesting what you found with cult pens colosseum - after my experience with bashful blueberry & a toe in the ocean looking the same to me, I wonder if they sometimes get their fruits & world's collections muddled? What you have looks more like my summer sunset to me
You're not the first person to say this. I wonder if they did accidentally mix up the label?
It is a quilting ruler, or at least looks very similar to one. So if people are looking for it, go to the fabric store 😊
@@RSylvane yay! Thank you!
Great video! I found a few new ones I want to try now. You are helping me to love browns. I have a bottle of Irioshizuku Tsukushi that I am hoarding. It is a lovely brown and they no longer make it.
@@ShariArts I am sad they no longer make Tsukushi and I never got to try it. But I understand the hoarding - I am doing the same with Ina-Ho!
All the beautiful browns!!! So luscious 🤎 I still love my Diamine Sepia for everyday use, which isn't in with your swatches. I have a question Karyna - are the Diamine Inkvent inks available to purchase individually?
@@roxannemaguire5826 yes the 2023 bottles just came out in stores!!
I thought I had found my perfect dark brown in Diamine Walnut but I think I need to try chocolate brown first before locking that in.
Diamine Chocolate Brown is so good! I loved Walnut but there are others you need to try!
This swatching is amazing. It is a beautiful grid for picking my next brown ink! Thank you so much for doing this. I love that first ink and must get a bottle. I recently bought Diamine Terra cotta at the St. Louis Pen Show at end of June and I love it. I do consider it a brown leaning color, but a case could be made for orange. Fascinating! Thanks again.
Thanks Cheryl! Glad this is helpful. And I can see the agument going either way for a lot of these inks.
Perfect timing as I'm looking for a good brown ink. Thank you! I'm also attending the San Francisco pen show this year and hoping to get a chance to say hi. I've learned a lot from your videos over the past year.
Yay! Glad this was helpful. And if you see me in San Francisco, do come up and say hi!
wow that nib holder is so beautiful.
Thank you!
Loving all the browns. Your diamine colosseum looks more like my diamine Petra which is from the same collection so I wonder if you got a mislabeled bottle? Diamine colosseum is more of a light brown as pictured on cult pens website. I have both.
@@Tamara-pens thank you for letting me know! I wonder if there had been a mislabeling? 🤔
Gorgeous!! It is crazy how similar some are and how much variation there is between browns! I have been really into light browns lately and a few of my faves are BPC sandstone, van diemans laughing kookaburra crest, Monteverde moonstone, and surprisingly that diamine weeping willow!! When I first swatched it I thought I would never use it!! But I recently put it in a MF sailor and really enjoyed it!
@@Wholelatteplans I loved Monteverde Moonstone and ended up finishing that sample. I may need another 😂. And that Weeping Willow - I want to see how it writes. It’s a beautiful swatch but may be a bit light?
@@KarynaLovesToPlan it was really light but I think on par with oyster hour lightness! I did add a little white lightning as well. It was definitely still legible 😀
You should try Otto Hutt Caramel. It is a scented ink that smells delicious 🤤 and writes gorgeously
Ooh thank you for the recommendation!
I do find it interesting how different some of the wider line widths look compared to their swatches. Or maybe not different, but the line width definitely showcases more of one specific tone whereas the swatches are much busier. I’m always attracted to the green/yellow toned browns, but this exploration has piqued my interest for DeAtrementis document brown and BPC projector film
Yes, I found that so interesting that the wider line width was so different from the swatch! Could definitely be due to the nib I was using and how much ink was on the speedball vs the Kakimori. But so interesting, nonetheless!
I love FWP beaver dam brown. Not fancy at all, but a lovely brown to write with.
Ooh I haven't tried that one yet!
Try diamine english milk tea 😊
Thanks for the recommendation!
my faves are the ina-ho, the queen and castle and the robert oster muddy sand
@@impish22 yes! These are all quite similar and I love them!
Ooh Diamine Chocolate Brown and ina-ho for the win for me. I also like that karamel from Octopus Fluids although doesn't look brown :)
Yeah I included a few that don't really look brown but the name suggests otherwise, right?
I love these videos now that I have a few fountain pens (6 so far). Which are your top two favorites?
Hard to choose two! I love Diamine Dusted Truffle, Pilot Iroshizuku Ina-Ho... so hard to choose!
I've been on a brown ink kick! Diamine definitely knows how to do brown inks and Yule Log is my favorite. Love it and I'm really trying not to buy a bottle before finishing up my sample. And I totally get the "creamy" adjective/reference because the ones you referred to as "creamy" do bring to mind chocolate dessert 🤎 so yeah, it makes perfect sense to me! 😂
Fantastic variety of browns!
Love that Henry has such a sophisticated palette! My daughter, Sunny, was the same! Love that! 🥰
I'm so glad the adjective creamy is being well received! And yes, Henry has a sophisticated palette but won't eat what I make him. Go figure.
I ordered some new browns. No need to say more. ☺️
😂😂😂
I feel like I must be color blind 😂
It's why I have to test so many! I think they all look the same until I get them all on the same page.
Colosseum and Ina ho ❤
Very good choices!
@21:35 the J. Herbin Lie de the might have been the only ink so far, I have ever disposed off, since my swatches were still wet after a couple of days. Plus, it smudges hugely - that was not an ink for writing. Such a disappointment. On the other end of the spectrum, J. Herbin Terre d’Ombre has been one of my top inks ever!!!
Thanks for the recommendation!
