    LYRICS:
    Stanza 1:
    I am a poor wayfaring stranger
    While trav'ling thru this world of woe,
    Yet there's no sickness, toil or danger
    In that bright world to which I go.
    I'm going there to see my Father,
    I'm going there no more to roam;
    Stanza 2:
    I know dark clouds will gather round me,
    I know my way is rough and steep;
    But golden fields lie out before me
    Where God's redeemed shall ever sleep.
    I'm going there to see the saved ones,
    Who passed before me one by one;
    Stanza 3:
    I'll soon be free from ev'ry trial,
    My body sleep in the church yard;
    I'll drop the cross of selfdenial
    And enter on my great reward
    I'm going there to see my Savior,
    To sing His praise forevermore;
    Chorus:
    I'm only going over Jordan,
    I'm only going over home.
    SCRIPTURE & THEMES:
    The hymn is a spiritual that expresses themes of life’s hardships, longing for heaven, and faith in eternal life.
    These verses align with the themes of pilgrimage, hope, and the promise of heaven found in this hymn:
    (1) Hebrews 11:13-16 (KJV): "These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city."
    This passage speaks of being a pilgrim and stranger on earth, much like the journey described in the hymn, with a longing for a heavenly home.
    (2) 2 Corinthians 5:1 (KJV): "For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens."
    This verse reflects the hymn’s hope of leaving behind earthly troubles and moving toward a heavenly dwelling.
    (3) John 14:2-3 (KJV): "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."
    This passage speaks of the promise of a heavenly home, which resonates with the hymn's message of journeying toward a better place.
