- A summary of all the major narrative content that has been in Guild Wars 2 between the base game and Path of Fire. This video will ideally give some background information to new or returning players who are making leaps between story points.

for HoT, i was a sylvari and i chose Caith and Canach as my partners to fight Mordremoth and Brahm said "Is it just me, or is it a problem that only sylvari are doing this?" Or something like that. It made me hysterical.
I did the HoT story yesterday again to experiene it once because back then I skipped through it and I also chose Caith and Canach! I am norn though, but Rytlock still said "Am I the only one who thinks it's weird that 2 out of 3 goin in there are Sylvari?" XD Loved it!
Those drawings are spot-on, and very well done :)

I'm caring waaay too little about that annoying blabbermouth Trahearne (tho his death is pretty tragic), but Tybalt? Best NPC Ever! I literally cried when I saw him again during the final fight against Mordy T.T
I kind of hate GW2's living story nonsense. They expect you to pay all this money to play the story missions (And mind you, I bought the game when it released, I didn't get the game for free, and yet I'm being treated like one who did), but if you skip it, you have no fucking idea what's going on if you buy the expansions. You'd expect the personal story to flow right into heart of thorns, being the next expansion, but then you're like "Brahm? Taimi? Who the fuck are these people? Where's trahearne? When did this new dragon show up?"
And the free living world segments are still only peacemeal, you still get introduced to people you have never heard of.
It's BAD story telling. You can't just hold important revelations behind a paywall, I'm not even remotely encouraged to pay and encourage this kind of behaviour.
Make the important story pieces free, and leave side adventures behind the pay wall, so that you can continue the story seamlessly without being totally lost.
It's microtransaction policy at it's utmost contempibility. Literally holding important information hostage behind a paygate.
"Oh but they need to make their money!" What happened to "selling the boxes standalone was enough to keep gw1 running for THREE full featured expansions"? Why did they make the base game free to play if they need money so bad?
"You can just farm gold and trade it for gems!" Or I can play a game that isn't run by clowns. Most other MMO's don't just force you into a paywall and hold your experience hostage at random points.
There IS one that does: SWTOR. And hey, it's story focused AND fully voice acted! Is THAT what we want gw2 to be compared alongside?
GW2 is a huge game with a massive amount of contenet. Arenanet worked very hard on it and they deserve to be paid. Its not like they charge $15 a month to play it.
Hey now, don't bring SWTOR into this. At least with that game, you pay $15 and you get access to all DLC, Expansions, and Content up to that exact month, and KEEP it even after the 1 month Sub runs out. Plus nearly everything SWTOR's Sub holds ransom, you can eventually pay off with the 500 Premium fund each month, while also being able to buy them off the Auction House for in game gold too.
It also handle's it's story content much better than GW2, which sadly fails in a lot of aspects, which is just sad. GW1 was an amazing game, so good in fact it STILL exists and STILL has people playing it to this very day! But GW2 heavily lacks players. When the game first came out, the zones were flooded with people all across the world in every level group. But I resently came back to the game and started a new player, and even in the FIRST ZONE for the Charr, across 3 days, I saw a total of 3 people, and heard 2 people talk on World Map. And it was even worse in the next 15-25 lvl map, where no one ever talked in chat, and I saw 1 person in my entire time exploring and doing everything in that map.
That is NOT a good sign when the very beginning zones of your game are extremely dead. Especially in an MMO promoting Group Content and jolly cooperations. At least in SWTOR you can Solo every content and they are all designed to be solo'd, even the 'Dungeon'/Flashpoints, and there are plenty more people talking, visable, and interacting and grouping there.

Thank you SO much. I came (back since release) into the game, got both expansion, did all of HoT, started PoF and felt SO lost. The ending to HoT was especially abrupt. I thought those seasons would be extra or complimentary. Not at all, it's really silly to have them separate from the expansions, the expansions just don't work by themselves, story-wise.
I'm enjoying my time here so far, if I find a good community (guilds and such) that keeps me engaged with group content, I'll be in for the long run and get these seasons. For now, thank you very much for clearing SO much up.

Plot twist: Scarelt Briar was actually working for Mordremoth
If killing the elder dragons will destroy the world, how come letting them live also destroys the world? What sort of poorly written solution to this rubbish can anet pull out of their butts?
Started HoT storyline not long ago, jumping directly from the personal story and during my whole run so far I was like, "excuse me, who is this?"

Such a sudden death, and the commander's reaction being so bland regarding the lost of someone so close...
Returning player from 2013 (before Living Story 1 came out) and this was great to catch up on. It's really a shame how the missions themselves are so boring and it seems like Season 3 gets a little contrived, but now I understand who Aurene is because I was totally lost when checking out PoF haha. Still kinda dumb just from the story that all of a sudden we don't want to kill the dragons because magic reasons?? Oh well what ever.

This was awesome! I played free 2 years, until early Dec 2019, when I began scrambling to just catch up on skills. I adore lore. I'm going to now discuss a lore master with my Guild, so we are not just running around killing things and making achievement and mastery points. Great job!

Pedro Fellipe Just focused on living world and expansions in this video, not current events quests! Caladbolg quest was not part of Heart of thorns originally, was added as a current events collection later.

Glad to see this. Just finished Heart of Thorns and had little idea of what was going on through most of it. Living World is a neat idea but it's pretty poorly done.

I've watched videos about all backstory I could think of, GW1, season 1, lore, you name it, and I still have no idea why everyone assumes I should know who are those Destiny's Edge people.
Thanks for this! I don't enjoy the story quests very much but I do like the lore, so I was dreading spending loads of time (and money) on the living story and not even enjoy it. Gonna watch your season 1 and 2 recaps, play HoT and then come back for the s3 recap later!

Heart of Thorns didn't just end, the Dragon Stand map meta results in the death of Mordremoth and is supposed to take place at the same the player character is slaying Mordremoth in the dream... Since the map meta doesn't take place in a story it is more like you are just a pact soldier assault the dragon while your story driven hero is simultaneously fighting.... I know it is weird but mordremoth officially dies at the end of Heart of Thorns, they mention his death in PoF story and cineamatics.
I too have been playing on/off since launch but I still very much enjoyed your summary! Great job!
If you missed the Siege of Lion's Arch, im very sorry for you; there probably won't be another event on that scale again, which is saddening 'cause it spanned almost the entire planet.
Is GW2 still alive ? I only played 10-20 hours, when I had thousands and thousands with GW1.

while I do love Dreamy Abaddon 3 hour full playthrough of living story 1 this was more digestible and you did a great job!

hi, thanks for the reply!! Yes, I did all the art digitally, in photoshop- unfortunately, i had a licensing issue w/ my adobe programs a few weeks after completing this (I'm a college student and have access to photoshop through my school) and had to get my laptop re-imaged, so the file with all the art was erased. :( but when I make another video (already working on script), I'll be drawing a lot of new assets.
Making this video was a ton of fun! I haven't taken on an independent project this big in a very long time. My favorite part of the process was probably drawing environments because I like to do that in general haha. thanks so much for watching!!

yes and no ^^
You do not need to access the living story to play the expansions and a lore summary is kinda helpful but the amount of stuff tied to it is actually a major advantage and for the newest season you will want to play it as it is the first time a dragon is fought not in expansion but living world season 4. Also I will say that the amount of stuff coming with the living world seasons are speeding up to the point where you have more and more stuff you will need or at least could use in the future.
For example 2 more mounts with roller beetle (you might came across the races for Rollerbeetle in the core Tyria maps which can be entered with other mounts but not sucessfully finished for time challenges) and now the skyscale which furthermore needs mapcurrencys of the other living story season 4 maps. Also the meta of those maps are quite valuable and hold nice areas and challenges. Also the newest map covers lots of the masterys from the former LS episodes and even the HoT expansion. which allows for better traveling across the maps 4 regions.
Of course you could possibly sit it out and just look into the story for the future but as the LS become more and more important and is actually for free when you are logging in whenever one is active to get it available for you withoout having to buy it via gemstore. Also the Gemstore is a good point to mention here as you do not have to pay real money for the LS episodes and could also trade in enough ingame gold to get the gems needed for it.
The biggest fear you might have later on is that the maps will more and more be constructed for all mounts movement abilitys so having access to all of them could be key to explore them.
Mounts movement in short:
Griffon: gliding fast mount for long distances but incapable of reaching higher ground by itself (we talk about real high ground)
Jumper: static high jump allowing for climbing nearly every mountain as long as it has a safe ground to rest between. But it is incapable of reaching grounds that are to far away properly.
Skyscale: like the combination of griffon and jumper it allows for a slower gliding but also hoovering and height increasing movement but uses its flight stamina fast while you ascend to a height but recovers fast on stable ground. this allows for slower vertical movement but with greater reach than the jumper but griffons will be faster in horizontal movement. Also the fly stamina is refilled while picking up the chaotic energy on living story maps ;)
Roller Beetle: fastest mount on long horizontal ground but needs a bit to get to max speed and is not the best if you want to make turns ^^ It is also able to break through some walls with the rollerbeetlesymbol on it allowing for shortcuts and otherwise unreachable places.
Raptor: 2nd fastest mount on ground allowing for long distance jumps and is good to control
Jackal: 3rd fastest mount on ground and its teleportation ability allows for some stranger movement on long or short distances and the use of special portals to different locations you normally can't enter without this mount.
last but not least the hoover rays which allow for fast passing waters and even sit ons while swimming on the surface of the water as well as small hoovering and kind of gliding from higher ground. Also this mount is needed to bypass areas that would kill you if you touch the ground otherwise like the brand or quicksand for example.
Warbeast is not included here as it is not PVE related by the way ;)
You see that having access to al lof them can increase the way of interacting with maps and for the newest one we allready have an idea of how this will work for example there are high ground areas out of reach for the jumper only accessable with the skyscale and different shortcuts that allow jackals or roller beetle to access areas you would otherwise have to surround a mountain first to be able to jump to with the jumper or fly there with skyscale for example and masterys that are in the sky will need you to have the skyscale to reach them. Raptors and griffons still remain the better overall choice to move longer distances followed by skyscale and jumper as the region is quite vertical too.
The last episode of season 3 is more or less a way to finish the story of the white mantle... Lazarus (and the Mursaat who are dead) are the leaders and creators of the cult.. really you have to know the gw1 story. Killing him is really the only way to finish the white mantle for good. Gw2 likes to assume everyone played gw1 lol so it's relevant if you know what's going on. Balthazar really just took advantage of the fact they were resurrecting him, a way to make it really seem like he was lazarus. Clever really.
that's fair, and I get that! The only reason that I posited that it didn't feel relevant at the time is that there were a lot of other things going on in the story, loose ends that hadn't been tied up, and with the death of caudecus- at least for GW2's narrative purposes- the white mantle conflict already felt like it was over. it also seemed like a strange choice in terms of pacing, to me, to have that particular story beat right after the balthazar reveal; it didn't feel like it built on the established tension at all. but that's just my opinion- I'm sorry if I didn't give that chapter of the living world fair treatment.
