"cat in the box has more strategy."... "If you want more meat, pick Skull King". I'm not sure what meat means now. Anyways I like strategy so I'm happy that I already own and love Cat in the box
Cat in the Box for me.. 100%... as long as I don't paradox 😜. I just played Thrones of Valeria (also trick-taking) for the first time... also very different from most trick-taking games, have you guys played that by any chance?
I would compare Nokosu Dice with Cat in the Box myself, in that both are great abstract trick-taking games with extra elements, but that CitB has blended theme & presentation so much better. To me, CitB has got the whole ‘packaging’ down to a tee, with the cool box & all the components working so well together, whereas Nokosu Dice hasn’t had nearly as much attention, even tho it’s every bit as intriguing to play, because the presentation is very minimal. Will have a look into the Skull King game - looks intriguing, just that I feel comparing the 2 above games is also interesting.
Depends on which game. In Cat in the Box you always must play the lead suit UNLESS you "do not have" that suit. In skull king there are "special" cards that bring in a new layer of rules so I would recommend just reading their rulebook on it.
Skull King's good, but Cat In The Box is better. It isn't exactly the gameplay that let's SK down, but that scoring is a real pain in the neck. Having said that, I still do enjoy SK, and play it regularly. But if given the option, I definitely would reach for Cat... first. Mind you, there's also The Bottle Imp...
For me it is the other way around, different strokes for different folks haha i prefer skull king as you can customize the length better, so it's easier to fit in small time gaps playing 3 rounds or so. It is easier to teach too even to someone who hasn't play trick taking before

Y'all should try "the fox in the forest" for a very solid two player trick taking game.
I have heard of that one! We will have to check it out!
Skull king >>> (but also I’ve never played cat in the box)
Hahahah you’ll have to come over and play!

What is the scoring app you use? We love Skull King but the scoring can be really tricky (😂) thanks for the great content.

This is the link to the apple App Store. It’s called skull score. It’s pretty good and user friendly!

If player B plays a trump card does player C have to folllow the lead card of player A?
