Board Game Burnout | Getting out of the Slump Vlog
We have a confession. It's been hard getting a board game out on the table to play. SO we decided we needed to find a fresh new game to get us back into the groove. Come buy a board game with us this week at our local game store!

    I’d make broad pro/con list of playability/replayability, number of players/number of friends or how often they come around etc… and assign a number to each one in a hierarchy of importance according to what you prefer to rank higher. Once that list is made it should be much easier to grade which ones you want versus which you can part with. You can also try the Shut Up and Sit Down method of being a library for friends, loaning board games for other people’s enjoyment telling them to pass it on to someone who may also find joy in it, if they ever fall out of love with the game you gave.

    Vagebond hard to win with? That's one way to immediately discredit any opinion following thereafter. It is by far the highest winrate faction (there's a spreadsheet out there with all winrates). Also the suggestion that "there should be one more faction like them" is complete idiocy. The Vagabond only works in a four player setting because they can seriously help a single faction get rolling. Without at least two other players to balance out the Vagebond messing with the power distribution this would never work.

    • @PAXgames1
      @PAXgames1 20 днів тому

      Thanks for watching! This is our findings when we typically play with 2 - 3 players and we truly have only played with the vagabond a few times. But I am excited to see that the vagabond is getting a bit of an update with the new expansion! Im excited to see what it will be like

    White - protection, black - utilitarian, blue - stop everyone else, green - all about creatures, red - damage everything The combo of colors all have their own flavors too. Some decks really interact with others but some feel the same every time. A lot of concepts transfer from deck to deck. The curve is more about the colors I'd say. Some decks are totally overpowered but not usually when they're decks you can purchase outright. The official commander decks arent high power (which is determined by which turn you can win at)

    Skull King's good, but Cat In The Box is better. It isn't exactly the gameplay that let's SK down, but that scoring is a real pain in the neck. Having said that, I still do enjoy SK, and play it regularly. But if given the option, I definitely would reach for Cat... first. Mind you, there's also The Bottle Imp...

    • @hugocruz2439

      For me it is the other way around, different strokes for different folks haha i prefer skull king as you can customize the length better, so it's easier to fit in small time gaps playing 3 rounds or so. It is easier to teach too even to someone who hasn't play trick taking before

    There are broken decks and good match ups, but one of the things I like about commander is the fact that in your 100 card pile , if it is built well, it should be progressing it's game plan while also allocating a certain amount of cards in the pile to interaction (cards dedicated to stopping other peoples plans, protecting your own). If your deck is a precon, then it will usually be balanced against other precons. So that's a good place to start. I highly recommend getting a precon each and playing them against each other until you know what you want to do to win. Watch the professors videos on learning magic the gathering! He's the best. His channel is called tolarian community college! His videos will teach you all you need to know to understand what's going on and play magic in a fulfilling way

    That's a cool account to hear about entering the TCG world! The competitive sides of these games has some pros and cons. I'd say the pros are that your experience is much more streamlined than Commander. Constructed formats are 1v1 and decks have strict gameplans they want to exert (but they're also kind of expensive and will be wildly different in effectiveness depending on the decks they're played against) while Commander really puts all the wild stuff in and games just take forever. I'm playing a different TCG atm that also lets you choose a character you like in 1v1 and you will play games up to an hour with a character you're very familiar with that has a certain unique style of playing thanks to their special cards. It's really like a dance with other people and their characters and it can sometimes be exhausting but also very fun. These games draw you in quite deeply and sometimes you can afford to enjoy much time with them but sometimes it's a lot with how extensive they are.

    18:20 this is highly unusual and probably only because everybody at the table was fairly inexperienced - your average game of Magic: the Gathering Commander should only last around 1-1.5 hours, any longer is considered unusually long. Moreover, Commander is rarely played tournament-style. Yes it is the most popular format but it’s only played casually - you could go to a game store on their commander night, play one game, and leave if you’d like

    There are lots of comments already, so I assume most things have been covered. One thing to know is that the most fun part of the game is creating your own decks. Since you are familiar with Baldur's Gate, there is a Magic set that you can buy on Amazon of just cards, rather than pre-constructed decks. The cards in that set are easy to understand and likely even easier for you due to your familiarity with the theme. When you're ready to start building your own decks (see Tolarian Community College and/or Command Zone on UA-cam for tips), this would be a great set for you to start with. Stick with it! The game is so much fun, and ever-evolving, so each game is a unique experience.

    As a long time MTG player, hearing you seem to like your first experience despite being thrown in the deep end makes me happy! "It was a good three hours." Made me smile. To answer your question, MTG is so old and so wide, that there's always a "busted" deck, and there's always ways to make a deck better or worse, but the fun way to play I think is when you play decks of similar "power" against each other. Hope you keep trying and learning! Definitely just go with whatever themes appeal to you and don't worry about how strong a deck is.

    • @PAXgames1
      @PAXgames1 20 днів тому

      I think I need to find simpler decks because I have the doctor who ones and I can’t rap my mind around what it is trying to do

    • @Cerastes12
      @Cerastes12 20 днів тому

      @PAXgames1 Yeah that sounds like a hard first deck on top of Commander being a hard first way to play. My recommendation would be to ask your friend to make you two simple decks to play against each other. If they've been playing a while they probably have enough random cards to throw something together.
