Think he and some others left The Ringer over their desire to create a union...it was a big brouhaha for a while with that company. Guess they had a falling out. I miss him on stuff too, especially his GOT stuff.
Top Gun, Road House, Point Break, Die Hard, etc. ... action movies that are timeless for Gen Xers. Some of the greatest one liners of all time. RIP Swayze.
I’ve already listened to this as a podcast but I almost want to rewatch this version to see all their facial reactions. Also seeing Mallory laugh is even better than hearing her laugh, which is already top quality content with audio only
I need more video pods. Like a lot more. And I agree with the rest of the internet: Mallory is on an absolute hot streak in these Rewatchables appearances.
I remembered when it finally came out on VHS. it cost almost $100. They brought down the price by adding a Pepsi commercial at the beginning of the movie.
Goose hitting the canopy: the writers needed the RIO to die and for it not to be Mavericks fault. Pete Pettigrew came up with the idea they there was a tendency for the f-14 to go into a flat spin if the airflow was disrupted into one of the engines. At 10000 feet when the aircraft “departs” from controlled flight the crew must eject. There tended to be a low pressure area above the aircraft that caused the canopy to hang for a time before it became clear and then safe to eject. In this case it stayed long enough for goose to hit the canopy. No Pete pettigrew was a colleague of Charlie’s named Perry Siedenthal. Pettigrew said they weren’t dating. When the other pilots got to watch the film Pettigrew got endless amounts of grief because Charlie walked out on him. The students don’t spend any time in showers. They spend most of their workday in flight suits. But they needed to show cruise with his shirt off and the other pilots to make audiences think of sports and also to get pilots to talk to each other with out ranks and uniforms. Call signs are nowhere near as cool in real life. If you look at the credits is usually a play on the name of the pilot. “Secks” seckinger. “Rat” Willard. “Organ” Hammond. “Horse” caulk. In Australia it’s less imaginative. They just add an “o” or a “y” to the name. Matt Hall “Matty”. Jason easthope “easty”.
A lot of navy bases are Oceanside and have officers club & chief’s club that are Oceanside. Indoor bar, restaraunt indoors, volleyball courts in the back. Just sand pits lol
They seemed to be more concerned about Maverick's fly by than what Iceman did. Apparently, the officer sustained burns from hot coffee. Goose died. No one cared.
Someone tell Bill that Kelly Mcgillis’ date in Top Gun was an actual pilot. Fun fact

Goose should not be dead. People complete forgotten physics. The plane is in a flat spin. Even later when they are about to eject, the plane is still spinning. When the canopy is ejected just before the pilots, the canopy should be in a very different position because of the centrifuge force. So, no dead. Buuuuut, the movie wanted to portrait 2 problems the plane has. The cut of the flow and the problem of the canopy not being thrown correctly. So they tackle it in the movie. I think the Navy requested them to put that in the movie.
Top Gun has a lot of similarities with the 1966 movie The Blue Max with George Peppard and Ursula Andress which focused on the rivalries between WW1 German fighter pilots.
I don't think Mav and Goose and Ice and Slider hate each other. Their is a rivalry but they are all on the same team. They're all they got. No one else is their peers
56:13 i remember when vhs was like 100$ that’s like 300 now .. until someone figured out how to color them then we’d rent them and copy them .. then they made special vhs that you couldn’t copy .. and we figured out how to modify them so we could copy them again
I grew up in the 80s and I don't remember VHS tapes of movies costing so much. I had tons of Disney films, and I remember getting ET for Christmas. I have a hard time imagining my parents spending that kind of money for home movies.
I'll never understand the whole watching movies in theatres being better than at home these days. I have a 65 inch OLED that makes all my local screens (except Imax) look like dirt. Even my home theatre sound is on par.
They missed so many quotes smh. This is the apex mountain of quotable movies. The best quote section of this movie should be its own podcast. No "negative ghostwriter the pattern is full?" Stinger has to be a Waiters nominee, every line he has is a piece of reusable vernacular. This soundtrack is on the Mount Rushmore of soundtracks. No one mentions that the mig-28 isn't a real thing, migs are always odd numbers and that was a US aircraft.
Love this movie. I didn’t want to be a pilot after Top Gun, but I did want to join after the movie Navy Seals. Take my breath away is the first song I remember hating because you couldn’t get away from. Still can’t listen to it. The most unforeseen death in the movie was Optimus Prime in the 80’s cartoon movie. I was 10… I was traumatized.
I miss Jason being in the extended Ringer universe.
Why did he leave ??
@teaknote175 not sure why he left but I know he does some work for HBO he's apart of their House of the Dragon podcast
Think he and some others left The Ringer over their desire to create a union...it was a big brouhaha for a while with that company. Guess they had a falling out. I miss him on stuff too, especially his GOT stuff.
I'm so glad y'all are doing actual video for the pods!
This pod is instantly iconic. Mal was bringing the 🔥! Please do more videos of the pods!
Top Gun, Road House, Point Break, Die Hard, etc. ... action movies that are timeless for Gen Xers. Some of the greatest one liners of all time. RIP Swayze.
Love this group of four. Great chemistry.
My first view from their channel from just soaking up all the new Top Gun stuff on YT and I agree!
They could switch out 3 put in Dobbins, Litman, Shea and it's still great a podcast
@@eboooo Nah, we're good. Dobbins and Litman would manage to find something "inappropriate" to be outraged about. Mal keeps it 100.
@@glumbum6 I want more Kevin Clark he's a good hang.
Chris habit of interrupting is annoying
Can't believe the "I was inverted" scene didn't make most rewatchable list. Best scene of the movie
Yes I know the finger Goose...Sorry I hate it when it does that.
Because only Bill is actually into this movie.
Your WHAT!
I’ve already listened to this as a podcast but I almost want to rewatch this version to see all their facial reactions. Also seeing Mallory laugh is even better than hearing her laugh, which is already top quality content with audio only
Even if you've already listen to this pod, it's worth watching for Mallory's facial expressions alone.
Totally sexy
I need more video pods. Like a lot more. And I agree with the rest of the internet: Mallory is on an absolute hot streak in these Rewatchables appearances.
49:50 is just a whiplash shade being thrown, and it’s so perfectly timed.
My new favorite Rewatchable episode. Really fun and Mallory was on fire!
Yes I love this! Do more video podcasts dammit!!!
Surprised we haven't had this before. One of the great rewatchables
I’ve honestly never laughed harder listening to a podcast. This is comedy gold
Do you listen to comedy podcasts? The Bonfire has a ton of episodes that are widely funny.
Now I'm mad you haven't taped all the other Rewatchables pods. Also Mal is incredible this ep.
We need these moving picture pods!
This pod goes RIGHT off the rails and keeps going!
This is now my favorite Rewatchable episode ever.
yesss more videos pods grantland style
Echo what everyone else says - the video pods are awesome. It’s cool to see you guys interact with each other. Also TG Maverick hype!
I know Malory is married, I know I am as well, but her laughter is so enchanting.
Like you had a shot. Just teasing. 😂
Yes! Please keep releasing videos of the pods.
PLEASE do a video version of EVERY Rewatchables! This is awesome!
I had to watch this again. Mallory Rubin MVP.
Tim Robbins had one of the best lines in the movie. "You're gonna do what?"
Please keep up the videos for pods!! GOAT cast!! Great to see all my faves in one place!! 🎤🐐🎤🐐🎤🐐🎤🐐
Mallory is the absolute best, freaking love her reviews and commentary!
finally a vid pod..I needed to see reactions to mallory comments!!....thanks
Such a great panel! Like them each on their own but even better together.
"I wanna know why they're just not on the beach" 😂😂😂😂
"You're a lot brighter than you look"
"Well you shut up"
Wow. Mallory Rubin. I'm a fan now.
come on...have better taste...even slightly better, you'll regret what you said
If they haven't yet, these guys seriously need to do 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off'!!
I remembered when it finally came out on VHS. it cost almost $100. They brought down the price by adding a Pepsi commercial at the beginning of the movie.
This was SO well done. This video is longer than the actual movie and it never once got boring. Really enjoyed the whole show.

This episode was gold. I laughed, I cried, it was better than Cats.
'An 11-yr old idea of what a cool adult guy is like' hahaaa!
I'm thinking if Mallory wants to have a great time on a date, she's getting a great time. Love the attitude.
A lot of navy bases are Oceanside and have officers club & chief’s club that are Oceanside. Indoor bar, restaraunt indoors, volleyball courts in the back. Just sand pits lol
Aged the best: the up & down high five at 26:26.
Was this the first time it appeared on screen? It was certainly the first time I ever saw it.
again, please make all rewatchables (and bs reports for that matter) videos. this round table format is made for it
The RIOs job is Monitoring weapon status and weapon assignment. Shooting BVR (beyond visual range) weapons.
Trailer came out 2 years ago. Still no movie. Craziness.
LOL. “The best call sign is Starbuck “. Dude 1: My call sign is Starbuck. Dude 2: Great, I will have a tall latte.
Why does no one point out that it was Iceman's fault that goose died. He cut Mav off and created the Jet wash.
They seemed to be more concerned about Maverick's fly by than what Iceman did. Apparently, the officer sustained burns from hot coffee. Goose died. No one cared.

My favorite Rewatchables EVER!
My god the last 10 minutes of this pod were WILD!!!
Bill needs to put more women on these pods. Amanda & Mallory are ALWAYS funny.
100% trippin. She’s horrible and ruined it for me. Trying way too hard and she is not funny at all
"I don't think she's boning" -bill
Lololol
The exclusion of Cheap Trick's "Mighty Wings" from the soundtrack discussion is a CRIME!!
The ending of this was so funny. Classic
If you guys could do episodes in the vein of "This American Life" it would be an interesting experiment. These round table discussions are terrific!
Top Gun has a lot of similarities with the 1966 movie The Blue Max with George Peppard and Ursula Andress which focused on the rivalries between WW1 German fighter pilots.
The one problem is they have George Peppard an all
American actor playing a German 🇩🇪 pilot !
Mal and Jason's Binge Mode is to good...Ready for another show to come out to get them back together.
Do none of these people realize Miramar is in San Diego?
Mal was coming out firing.
She emptied about four clips.
We need full binge mode videos!
I like the look on Mallory's face when the guy says "Tom Cruise period as a sex symbol is short lived"
She is definitely hot for Tom Cruise.
"Looking forward to *Top Gun 2* more than I am *Rise of Skywalker* ...." Didn't exactly go out on a limb there!
I don't think Mav and Goose and Ice and Slider hate each other. Their is a rivalry but they are all on the same team. They're all they got. No one else is their peers
We needed more Hot Shots talk - the Goose character was called Dead Meat!
Video format >>>
"She's making him a fucking salad!" 😂😂😂😂
Love this pod well done Ringer, Went to Myanmar last year and heard a lot about this movie there
Dyou mean Miramar?
@@adwaitdixit7753 yes you are right, good catch
(39:23) simmons has an existential crisis to top gun being critiqued
Best song Mighty Wings then Top Gun Anthem.
That soundtrack was fire.
That's fun to play on the drums. It's not difficult, but it's really fast. About 158 BPM.

Forgetting Kelly McGillis as the DA in 'The Accused' two years after Top Gun. Only won Jodie Foster a Best Actress Oscar...
1:22:56 bloody hell what the hell was that hahaha.
More Rewatchables, plz! 🤛
I'll never understand the whole watching movies in theatres being better than at home these days. I have a 65 inch OLED that makes all my local screens (except Imax) look like dirt. Even my home theatre sound is on par.
More video pods please podfather Simmons
Rossovich is in Terminator 1. He plays Sarah Conner’s roommate’s bf.
More rewatchables please
How have you not done Gladiator yet
We all know legends was what made Tom Cruise a star
That Move still works
The last five minutes are so insane
Mallory got red-faced hella times 😅
Said it for years, cruise would have absolutely reeked showing up at McGillis’ house. Has he no shame
Mac dying in My Girl is devastating. Damn bees!
i love each one of these people + shea
This is great!!!
for a long time as a kid after watching this film and before reading about the life of Socrates, I thought a Hemlock was the name of a legit cocktail
judging from the comments in the maverick trailer reaction video, people actually thought the ringer was a reaction channel.
According to Tony Scott, the $25,000 check he wrote bounced. Lol
I can't believe they missed the opportunity for Tom Skerritt to take the second seat behind Maverick after Goose died.
amazing podcasts!

Mallory, keep that spirit.
Good stuff!
Do we know that she was even on a date? That guy was probably a colleague preparing her for the next days presentation.
Looks like at least 23 MIG pilots have watched this video.
Love this movie. I didn’t want to be a pilot after Top Gun, but I did want to join after the movie Navy Seals. Take my breath away is the first song I remember hating because you couldn’t get away from. Still can’t listen to it.
