    What a beautiful concert. I wish I could have been there during that time. 1997 was quite a challenging year for me. Doing through a nasty divorce, and loosing my dad .Relocating on my own with only my faith in God to see me through.. ! I should have relocated to LA.and follow my childhood dreams of breaking into the music scene..

    This was my introduction to Vinnie and I haven't looked back. Unless of course, you count the numerous times I've watched this concert. :-) Great performance by all!

    I first heard Michael Sembello’s name when I was about 11 years old and he had the huge hit song “She’s A Maniac.” I thought it was catchy but also a little too Top 40. Anyway, 10-12 years later I was quite surprised when I saw his name in the credits of Stevie Wonder’s “Songs In The Key Of Life” cd as being a guitarist in Stevie’s band! I didn’t know he went back that far. Great singer and guitarist. If Vinnie Colaiuta is your drummer then you must be doing something right! He’s one of my top 5 favorite drummers. I got to see him play with Sting back in 1991 in B’ham, AL, on The Soul Cages tour. Unforgettable!

    • @pacmanlp8876
      @pacmanlp8876 2 роки тому

      @@musopaul5407 Hi. Im a pro drummer and video editor. 1) That was not a bad edit nor Vinnie "dropping a beat". That was a band arrangment in 9/8. If a drummer would add an eight note during a tottaly standard 4 time drum fill, the song and the band would just beak apart. That was a totally intentional band arrangment with an added 8th note at the end of the bar 2) Vinnie has one of the most perfect tempos all over the world, thats the reason why he has this brillant carrear as a studio drummer. Notice that Vinnie (or anyone) on this concert is NOT using in-ears or headphones for monitoring or click track. This is just "live" performance, human tempo performance during the entire show. I have took the job of analyzing vinnies tempo during each song of this concert, using not my subjectivity, but science (an app that analizes the tempo on the music). (Variable coeficiente being the highest-lowest tempo compared to the starting tempo) This is what Ive found: Song 1 (Rub the stone 03:10): initial tempo: 102bpm - End tempo:102bpm Variable coeficient during the song:1bpm (this is amazing, pure vinnie) / Song 2 (07:10 One of Me is Crazy) Starting Tempo: 87bpm - Ending Tempo: 79bpm NOTE: Here someone can argue that Vinnies tempo dropped. The fact is thats what is not what happened. The song IS at 80bpm and Jobin just started the keyboard intro part just too fast (87bpm) Vinnie just took an entire chorus to subtle slow it down back to the original tempo. If Vinnie wouldnt do that before C section (10:47), the song would propably crashed, because it would be impossible to play those 32nd note guitar and drum solo phrases at that fast tempo. Vinnie saved the song here IMAO . Song 3: (16:23 Aguas de marzo): Starting tempo: 159- Finishing tempo:157 - Variable coeficient: 5bpm In my opinion, in this song the tempo dropped a little a bit, but then Vinnie recovers it and ends it almost at the same tempo that started. I think it had to be that he was playing with brushes, so the band was keeping tempo more than the drums (because of dynamic range) and it was not until the song become louder that vinnie could take the wheels and return it to the original tempo. Song 4 (19:21 The Road to Lonely) Starting tempo: 123bpm - Ending tempo: 118bpm - Variable coeficient 5bpm / Song 5 (23:47 Gone) Starting tempo: 81bpm - Ending: 80 - Variable: 1bpm (god is back) / Song 6 (29:51 maniac) This song has many sections and tempos, nothing bad to say about them. Sont 7 (33:50) Stargint 109bpm - Ending: 108 - Variable: 3bpm / (36:50 Candles in the dark): starting: 96bpm - Ending: 98 - Variable: 2bpm / (41:00 Questing Song) Starting: 108bpm - Ending: 106 (until perc solo) / (52:14 One planet) starting: 90bpm - ending: 89bpm - Variable: 2bpm I think Vinnies tempo over 90% of the time of this concert is just NOT HUMAN. He is conducting the beat for 12 stable members, and some songs are played by like 70 people... without having in-ear monitoring... thats outstanding performance, not just by him, but for everyone over the stage. Legendary show, lengendary musicians.

    Amazing compilation of well crafted parts, some even sound catchy enough to have been successful on radio and video (don't you worry, I do know about "Maniac." ) I like the colors, don't get me wrong, Michael Sembello is truly a gifted individual and this band is simply off the rails, so good. Perfectly executed and here is my humble opinion:
    Could have done ENTIRELY without the Jobim/Falcao performances. They were either too bland, lacking some sort of passion or simply sounded like a mixture of sounds that do no resonate well with my musical preference. I must advice you that the rest of the concert is absolutely beautiful in its own way and everyone's performances are ON POINT. Vinnie is the best drummer I have ever heard, Jesus Christ. The man is not from this earth. So glad to live in a world where musicians this good still exist and take chances to create their own vision of what organized sound must be. So sorry for the long post, this is just really good herb. Much love to you all!

      Adolfo Torres M.I.J.O I'm sorry, but as a touring musician, I must disagree! That was such a moving rendition of Quiet Nights -- just because he is reserved on stage, doesn't mean the performance lacked any depth whatsoever. I can't imagine his grandfather jumping about and head banging, either! But, most importantly, love to YOU, my brother! I don't want to stir up an argument, just share my perspective with you so that you might reconsider yours. • in art we share •
