The next to last game I watched with my dad. He and I , and my youngest brother, were all diehard Viking fans. We got to see this victory together. And then the next week vs SF..... Then my dad passed away two days before the NFC Championship game. Memories I'll treasure forever. And @7:02 .....one of the greatest throws Wade Wilson ever made. I was yelling my approval.
The Walker Trade was during the 1989 season. We had gotten whipped by the Niners in the 88 playoffsand Lynn thought that a dominant running game would be the last building block for a Super Bowl club.Only thing was Lynn never talked to Burns about how he would fit Walker, who ran out of the "I" formationinto his offense which wasn't set up for it. The trade didn't destroy the 89 team which won the NFC Centralfor the first time in ten years. It destroyed the 90 and 91 teams.
A lot of these 'uniforms' now I don't like at all. The stupid looking sleeves, or no sleeves, and the dullness of some of the helmets, like the Vikings. These were the real purple Viking helmets!
For the love of the Lord! Why don’t they bring back and keep it forever, the traditional, dark purple jerseys and dark purple helmets! I cannot even stand to see that ugly, shiny doll, feminine light, purple jerseys and light, purple, shiny ugly helmets… Of course, if the fans voted, it would be a landslide for the old uniforms! They don’t even have the decency to wear them in a throwback game once a year… I’m a lifetime fan and they are horrible looking
There was a lot of talent on the Vikings during the Jerry Burns era but they could never consistently put it together. This was one of those games where everything just clicked. Thanks for posting!
+vikings2win247 I think the following season several player held out for $, reported to camp late, created dissention on the team. That's when the start of something good began to go very wrong .
+vikings2win247 I agree. A lot of talent back then. I loved seeing the young and exciting Rich Gannon in the game, who would later be traded by Deknee Green. The following week they would upset the 49ers in SF. Finally losing to the Redskins in the NFC championship game but nearly upset them as well. It was a sad ending to such a great playoff season for the Vikings who were the underdog in every game. .....If memory serves me right they just backed into the playoffs that season with a 8-7 record. 8-7 because there was a strike with one game cancelled and 3 or 4 games played with replacements who didn't win any games.
Burns was a throw back. Came form Lombardi's and Bud Grants 3 yards an a cloud of dust school. These mid to late 80's Vikings had something going. The problem was the following seasojn a bunch of the players held out and reported late. They also didn't have consistency at QB. This team could've have been similar to 1969' ( not as good of course) thye had a real good defense, something of a running game, very good wr's but no one to light a spark at the QB position.
vikings2win247 My 88 & 89 49ers avenged the 87 playoff loss by taking the Vikings to the woodshed on their run to back to back Super Bowls titles closing the '80s with 4 SB wins to be the team of the '80s lol.

The Saints entered this game on a tear at 12-3, winning something like 6 or 7 in a row. Hottest team in the league. Once the Vikings won it changed the whole complexion of the NFC playoffs.
Then the Bears thinking they would beat the Vikings in subzero Chicago after being swept by the Vikings that season, choke away their game against the Redskins the next day in what would be Walter Peyton'slast game. We could have had the Vikings going to the Super Bowl by beating the Bears 3 times in a single year while getting swept by a Packer team that was 3-13.
Thanks for this upload!!! Excellent Quality from 1988. This era 86-90 is my favorite and when I became a Viking Fan. Anthony Carter is in a class all his own. That line C Lowdermilk, G Randall McDaniel G Todd Kalis, G Terry Tausch, T Tim Irwin T Gary Zimmerman, in my eyes, one of the best in Viking History. RB Darren Nelson never gets the credit he deserves. Oh, and that defense. The consummate Viking, S Joey Browner.
What does Darrin Nelson deserve credit for? Sure he had a few moments here and there, and if he was a 3rd round pick that would be fine. He was the #7 overall pick taken ahead of Marcus Allen. He was drafted to be a franchise back.
@@jayNicks10 I am not a Vikings fan but this should be your lone SB title in 87. I was surprised skins won nfc championship. Has the catch been made on 4th down Vikings win it all
My first and only playoff game to attend as a Saints fan. I knew it was a cursed day when that got the hail mary right before halftime. Depressing. But hey we got you back 22 years later.
So the Vikings woke up on the Monday following their last game of week 17, and due to a loss by the Cardinals, found them selves the 5th and final seed in the playoffs, they would go on to demolish my beloved Saints, upset the #1 seeded 49'ers, and lose to the eventual Super Bowl winning Redskins by only 7 points. Very impressive '87 team. There's an interview by coach Burns that I came across ua-cam.com/video/Ji6JU_QD8LU/v-deo.html 21:50 that he speaks about finding themselves in the playoffs. Had it not been for the replacement teams they would have definitely been playing that Washington team in Minnesota. Very good Vikings team that '87 year.
This game is from the 1987 season. John and Pat. They were the announcers of my young adulthood...as well as Charlie Jones. And now they're all gone. And for cryin' out loud, Vikings need to go back those those unis from that era. Of course, no one wears sleeves nowadays...
3 plays from this game should have been made more famous in the following decade of playoff glory....AC punt return, the halfback pass and ofcourse the dang hail mary before halftime!
Yes, very talented and underrated receiver who was a playmaker. Who unfortunately became expendable when the Vikings claimed Cris Carter off waivers in '90, and drafted Jake Reed in '91. I think Jones finished out his career in Cleveland.
This was the playoffs for the 1987 season. The Vikings record was 8-7 BUT they went 0-3 with their strike players because every single one of their regular players sat out the strike. So their "real" record was 8-4 which would have been considered more than just respectable by most analysts. Even so, the Saints were clearly the second best team in all of football that year behind the 49ers. In any other division they would have been champs and overall second seed but being in the west with 49er's they ended up as wild card. With that in mind, nobody, and I mean absolutely NO BODY, except us bleed purple Vikings fans gave Minnesota any chance at all here. This was one of those wins, just like the following week's upset of San Francisco at Candlestick, which brings warm memories to the hearts of Viking fans everywhere. At the same time, it absolutely sucked the life out of the Saints fans who had to be thinking "what in the world do we have to do?"
I was listening to the game in my car during the opening drive when Kramer fumbled. I remember the guy in the car next to me cursing and pounding his dashboard.
Wow I remember watching this game. Vikings looked awesome on this day. Weird seeing Rich Gannon in there for their last TD. I think he was a rookie that year, and I believe he got in due to injuries to Kramer and Wilson. Great upload! Just too bad they had to face the Forty-Niners the following Saturday in Candlestick. Certainly they would have no shot there. Or would they???? :)

Kramer was on the 1980 Vikings who won the NFC Central and played the Eagles in the playoffs. He alsowas in the 82 playoff where we beat Atlanta and lost to eventual Super Bowl Champ Washington.

In '86 we had the Super Bowl Giants beat if not for a miracle 4th and 20 something conversion. We had the playoff Redskins beat up 2 touchdowns with 2 minutes left and lost. We beat the 14-2 Bears. We just kept chocking away games we should have won. Willie Teal single handedly handed that game over to the Redskins. Teal was the laziest cornerback I ever saw in my life. Too lazy to even bother pushing Tony Dorsett out of bounds.
In 1988 we swept the Bears who finished 12-4 and would play in the NFC Championship Game, while getting swept by the 3-13 Packers resulting in the Vikings finishing 11-5. WTF??? We won the wildcard against a tough LA Rams team before running into a Niners buzzsaw led by Joe Montana who was being whispered about as washed up.I remember a Vikings game preview show on WCCO, where the commenters were saying that the Rams were actually the better NFC West team that year. They also were happy that Montana was going to start over Steve Young because Montana would stay in the pocket unlike Young who had beaten us during a 1988 regular season game at the last moment with a crazy ass 50 yard scramble for a game winning TD with half the Vikings D on his back. Turns out that Joe Montana was only getting his second wind as he led the Niners to 2 more Super Bowlwins and 3 straight NFC title games.

Check out the huge gap between Zimmerman and # 72 . All Dozier had to do was follow Rick Finney and he waltz's in the end zone 3:59
You might want to follow that Zimmerman guy. I assume he is in the Hall of fame for a reason.
And the Vikings kicked their ass again the next year 45-3
Saints were the better team. They just had a bad game
,wonder if an old Kenny stabler couldve rally ed the Saints....Bobby Hebert mayve lost it
A prime Joe Montana couldn't move the ball an inch against this Vikings D. But an old broken down Stabler with no arm and no legs would have?
Bugs Bunny let a fart at the end of the game.
unfortunately for Jim Mora they were still aints
But in 2010, you whinny little bitches became the "A'ints"
You "Ain't" got to the SB....HAHAAAAAA!
:D
Saints fans deserved it, lost of patience was required!
Ben Kuxhouse Aww cut the crap Vikunt.
You deserve to lose in 2009 and I am loving the fact that we been beating your asses every since lol
@@saint5578 you dumb fuck! The NFL granted that year to the suck ass Aints!!! FACT!!!!!!!!
@@saint5578 The NFL special needs team with their cry baby NFL protected QB have a Katrina Bowl!! What has happened since your dumbshit remark!!!
I WATCHED THIS GAME ..N.O. KEPT CHANTING WHO DAT WHO DAT ...VIKINGS DAT WHO
Atleast we won a Super Bowl before you on our first try. Yall had four chances and you lost ALL of them.
NickFandom Productions As a saints fan, the Vikings have been a better program overall, and its not even close. But we did win a Super Bowl, they have not yet.
+NickFandom Productions Yea, but we never said " Y'all"
everyone but duped Aints fans knows it was a save the Aints year from moving the team. Thanks NFL for the prop!
The Aints were granted a season and a phony SB win to boost their fan base and sales. If you know anything about football you would have noticed it each game the Aints played!!!
Lol. Saints twelve men in the huddle before halftime. Dont worry vikings returned the favor in 2009 nfc title game. Same stadium.
This is what the Vikings do to the Saints in the playoffs when the Saints don’t cheat and the refs aren’t on the take.
The Saints hadn't been to the playoffs before this game ever they weren't built for us..
Thats why I was so happy when we beat Vikings ass in the 2010 NFC Championship game. LOL
+Dedric Sanders "We"? What position did you play?
I played the fan position sir, lol WhoDat!!!!!
+Dedric Sanders Beat their ass? haha you mean played dirty and barely won due to some bogus calls in OT. #Bountygate
Maaaaaaaan get over it the best team won PERIOD!!!!!##
+Dedric Sanders Best team won my white ass, and you can keep that "PERIOD" shit. There was plenty of controversy there and you were punished later for it. FUCK THE AINTS!! #Trash
