Tomintoul has a peated line called Old Ballantruan, which is 50% abv and provides all the floral notes on the palate along with delightful peat, well worth seeking out
I’ve only had one Tomintoul. It was an Alexander Murray cask strength 15 year. I bought three bottles of it and it was one of the best bottles of whiskey I’ve had the pleasure of drinking.
Tomintoul I believe is the only distillery with kosher certification. Kedem is the biggest distributor of kosher drinks such as grape juice and other grape products in the kosher market. So some Jewish sects will not drink port or sherry cask scotch as they need it from a kosher winery (debate in the Jewish community, some do and some don't). So tomintoul does these finishes with kosher companies such as kedem to bring these kinds of bottles to the more strict Jewish communities
@@JadisMercado of course, but the entire distillery of tomintoul is kosher certified, not just specific bottles. Glenfarclas might be as well, not sure
I live in driving distance to the West China Teahouse. Sohan is awesome, and the Teahouse is worth a visit, or 1000. I learned about him through you MBs.
When its available in my area, I use this to introduce Scotch to people. Labeled as "The gentle dram" Tomintoul is the lightest Scotch I've ever found.
Tomintoul was my favourite distillery to tour when I visited Speyside in 2019. Their peated range and the 16 are very good for the price (at least in the UK)
I live in the Finger Lakes wine region of NY, would be more than happy to load up the truck with port wine cask and exchange some empty barrels for full ones with whiskey.
I would love to see a comparison between the 12 and 18 year old Kedem Cask. Unfortunately, the 18 only appears to be an overseas release and has no US availability.
buy a couple pallets of sherry and a couple of port pallets, por them in some ex-crowded barrels and make your own casks...Also the emptied sherry will be delicious
Every whisky tasting has a few elements, Daniel puts his arm on the tasting table, Rex puts one arm behind his back, the nosing begins and then the question. "What is going on here?" Followed by a shuffle of the feet and the neat
Conversely keep the beautiful smelling but taste lacking whiskey to nose and get a second whiskey with wonderful taste but a disappointing nose in second glass to drink! Nose the first, drink the second! Freaking brilliant!!!!!!!
“What’s going on here” could be a trigger phrase that reminds her of something that she did and she got caught. So the embarrassment of that situation that she probably found her self and causes her to giggle.
Pretty cool, they would have done this is because a lot of Jews will not drink whiskey finished in non kosher wines, and kedem is one of the largest kosher winemakers.
I tried mini's of the 12, 14, 16 of the Tomintoul, with the 14 being the only 46% and the other's being 40% and boy is the entire line forgettably boring. Their "The Gentle Dram" slogan just turns into an indictment.
Tih-zahn or Tih-zann! Not tuh-zane. Geez, you talk like you’re from Texas! Oh, wait, never mind. Clearly, you never watched David Souchet (soo-shay) as detective Hercules Poirot (air-kyool pwah-roh) on PBS.

How is tomintoul 10 years old
That ending was hilarious.
“Open up the bottle, smell it, then go get another whiskey”
😂
A bottle could last years doing that...

There are a few other distilleries making kosher whisk(e)ys around the world.

@@JadisMercado how many that use wine barrels?
When these guys did the videos showing barrels and how the internals of the barrel walls looked, i switched from do drink to don't.

Glenfiddich 12 has a very nice pear flavor. It's definitely my go-to when I want a nice scotch.
Good morning, MBs!
Brotherhood Winery out of Washingtonville, NY has a beautiful Ruby Port. Hopefully you could get some of their barrels.

Have great weekend all ou MBs!

If you use kedem casks you can corner the kosher port cask whisky market in the US, it is a niche segment.

Would you buy Belle Meade sour or frank august small batch

I know you can add water to lower the abv but can you up proof a low abv to make it taste better?
MB's anyone know why no video yesterday? (Mon, March 27th)
Under-ripe pear is absolutely tart and grainy. Ripe pear is soft and very sweet.
Glenlivet is my go to scotch, noticed the name on this bottle of whisky, is there a relation between the 2?
They are both from the Glenlivet Estate.
I refuse to believe Daniel haven't watched enough Poirot to know about tisane (which Rex of course managed to shred to pieces phonetically).
Good video & I appreciate it guys 🥃

Seneca lake in NY unique biosphere, winery haven
Does anyone know what is the tea Daniel is talking about?
Might be Blue Lady Tea, fruity blend from Edinburgh
You would release 12,000 bottles of Magnificence!
Hey it’s Friday!
Go with "What's all this then?"
How about a new standard? 46% minimum and no chill filtering.
Can y'all imagine a boat episode?? 😆🙌

It's easy to cook fish in the crockpot.

Whisky pirate
OOh, i am borrowing that one about subjective taste but being wrong! Do i have to pay royalties? Do you accept bananas?
What's going on here, MBs?
I’m not a fan of the hand behind the back after tasting. Come on man
tomintool is the pronounciation
