"Eating too many calories makes you fat, and not enough makes you dead" Seems to be about the only dietary claim that doesn't change every six months.
Jim Fortune I agree with that statement. Media and advertising totally screws our knowledge and expectations of life, health, success, everything. There are no magic bullets and none of us are getting out of here alive. Our health will decline as we age no matter what we do or don’t do. Comfort and contentment should be given more weight in our choices than whatever this weeks study claims.
@@elsagrace3893 truer and wiser words were never spoken
Pretty much that and "fresher and less processed foods are usually better for you"
While there are foods that need to be aged, fermented, treated or purified to not be poisonous, most foods are better for you when fresher and less processed.
Most nutritionists have agreed on that for a while now.
@@aidanlevy2841 Most nutritionists have never agreed on anything.
I think it's a return to reality. Physics has been so incredibly successful as a science, that every field wanted to be like that, all hard facts and grown up.
Difficulty is, science studies stuff that is around... Well probably since the beginning of the universe and likely hasn't changed since then.
But diet, medicine, bacteria etc... That stuff is rapidly evolving. And when we reduce it to the hard facts we basically confirm our intuition. Eat something, not too much, not too little, eat healthy and diverse but not too much either, drink plenty of water, not too much... And in the meantime, have fun with live =)
Damn you scientists!! Why can't I just pick and choose the studies I want to agree with?
Lots of people do that. Flat earthers, anti vaxxers, its so easy to ignore 99% of research and only ackknoledge the 2 studies that agree with your views.
lol, but the studies didn't actually support the idea; not so much pick and choose, but rather pick and misunderstand. :)

If I remember correctly, a few of those studies were also criticized for measuring a wide number of health related parameters, and reported the few that showed a change as a positive result, even though you'd reasonably expect to see that kind of "positive" to happen by random chance out of so many parameters being watched, with the fairly low p-value threshold they used.
But saying "scientists find chocolate is good for you" gets you media attention, regardless of how shoddy the science is.

Good thing I love super dark bitter bars like 80-90+
Obsidian Scale I prefer like 40-60 or 70
70 is the sweet spot :)
i like 70+ too but I can't eat so much of it like a 50% wich just roll down until there's no more
the only chocolate i eat now is 70+, preferably over 80 if i can manage to find it but cocoa nibs are a good substitute otherwise. i tried one of those m&m chocolate bars recently because it looked interesting and it was terrible (#notsponsored) i probably would have enjoyed it a few years ago, but since i started getting the good stuff i have been spoiled.
Obsidian Scale Eating 85% right now. It’s nice, but I wouldn’t want it to be any more bitter than it is.
Cacao is good for you; sugar is not. Just eat 100% cacao bar.
Which is very bitter
@@D.M.S. its only bitter to people who shove sugar down their gobs. Its naturally very pleasant more like cinnamon or another spice. Not artificially sweet or cane sugar or honey sweet or fruit sweet but sweet in the way vegetables are a deep rich earthy sweet.
Raw cacao powder is the best. Just dissolve in some warm water and you can cool in or have it warm or use it in a green smoothie etc. I personally enjoy it with frozen banana and blended like a milkshake.
@@EmmaAppleBerry Are you aware that taste is genetic? That we don't experience taste the same way. I can enjoy 70% dark chocolate but over that and it is way to bitter for me. Since I have a heightened sense of taste there are many thing that are distasteful to me.

Milk Chocolate might be low in Flavanoids, but its high in Flavor-Noids
What about bars with 85-90% cacao?
95% Taza “wicked dark” chocolate is the best I’ve found on the market. I’ve been to their small factory near Boston too. This stuff is barely processed, but even then you’d need to eat probably a whole bar per day to get the health benefits discussed in these studies. I have half a bar per day, and do believe that I’m getting some small net-positive health benefits by doing so. 2g sugar..psh. At the very least it’s full of theobromine, which feels nice.
Probably still not enough to tip the bar into "daily reconmend dose " territory. Sounded more like something supliments would do better?
cacao is also very high in fibre, so I guess a few pieces of 80-90% chocolate have some benefit, at least it's better than any cookie.

I remember I wrote a paper in college for a gerontology course on the oldest living people, ALL of them said they ate chocolate regularly. Besides staying mentally and physically active for as long as possible it was just about the only thing they all had in common.
Besides the flavenoid aspect, I regularly consume cocoa nibs (preferably with coffee) because the theobromine and caffeine are part of chemical family called methylxanthines that have been shown in several studies to prevent the crystallization of uric acid in joints, which is the cause of gout symptoms. This, in conjunction with regular allopurinol therapy, has completely eliminated my fear of the allopurinol triggering increased gout flare-ups due to the crystals "crashing" out of solution.
Wow I been researching gout for years & never heard of this!! Any other helpful information you could share?

let me live my chocolaty lie, scishow
VicDraws ikr lol
I've been to a chocolate factory and saw the percentage of each ingredient in different types of chocolate (milk, dark and white. And I noticed that even in dark chocolate there's so much refined sugar in it, whereas the other chocolates have lots of sugar PLUS a lot of sweetened condensed milk, something that I'd never touch because that stuff is full of sugar.
So since then I decided to make my own chocolate treats by combining 100% pure dark chocolate with brown sugar, dates and almond butter. I still have to add a lot of sugar to make it not taste too bitter but at least they're a bit better than refined sugar plus I don't eat too much of it.
Most supermarket brown sugar is actually white sugar coated with molasses nowadays. They do it because it's cheaper to make.
@@crazycatlady39 I know. I don't use those. The ones I buy are raw brown sugar blocks. They're a very dark brown and taste different. I grew up in a country where we grew sugar canes and made raw sugar. So I know the difference.

Hey, Michael! I hope you are fine and healthy!
Interesting to know but what about Carob chocolate? How is it similar or different in the amount of flavonoids and would you get more flavonoids if you grew it yourself?
Although there may not be much evidence that chocolate is a miracle drug, I can't imagine life without it.

I’m showing this video to my mom next time I hear “Well I they say that dark chocolate is good for you!”

I think the blood pressure reduction has nothing to do with flavonoids, but the insane amount of potassium contained in cocoa. In most people, eating a regular diet, sodium and potassium are fairly retained by the kidneys and so they build up in the course of few days, then starting to show the blood pressure lowering effect of potassium.

At some point (my daughter was about 12) I gave up on Carob and we switched to chocolate.
Both my daughter and I would get unsweetened baking chocolate and gnaw on it - get high as kites from the resulting buzz. Didn't taste much worse than black coffee and after a while the bitterness was just another flavor, not a bad one.
That phase didn't last long, but we did get loaded on chocolate.

Chocolate also has something very similar to caffeine, so it also gives you all the benefits caffeine does, it also carries a lot of "vegetable serotonin" thus making people happy when they eat it. another binifit from chocoalte is the minerals it has which in many cases in history people had lack of even today, thus giving you an energetic recharged body often refered to aphrodisiac sensation, which by the way is the sensation you will always have if you eat and live healthy. This video did fulfill its purpose to find out if chocolate is good for you or not, my forcing me to do the research.

I'd like to know what is considered "regular dark chocolate bars." I assume it would be a 45% dark chocolate bar (still mostly sugar). But what about an 85% dark chocolate bar. Do the high percentage chocolates have a beneficial amount of flavonoids?
Dr Gundry supports eating dark chocolate that is 70% or greater. He personally eats the 85% Lily Extra Dark Chocolate bar.
