I was at a con a couple years ago and a newcomer to battletech (played grinder in the morning) shows up late and this is the last thing left for him to pick, had no idea what he was in for. This guy double taps, overheats, gets crippled, then cored. After the game he goes and buys 2 mech packs. Said he had a ton of fun. Half the fun of battletech is how you explode.
in TT Battletech I usually run a Hunchback IIC 4 as a bodyguard unit to my Star Captains Kodiak in my Illclan era Rasalhauge Dominion/Ghost Bear Provincial Garrison Stars it's never let me down and the dice gods have been kind to me however I've recently replaced it in my Command Star with a Grizzly I've placed it in a Direct Fire Star as a bodyguard to the Highlander IIC in that Star
As a big fan of the IS Hunchie, i really want to like the clan version. But beyond the meme, i just find it said that it is so lacklustre. Both in universe and from a gameplay perspective, I don't get why they didnt make it a little heavier to allow for all the pieces. At 60 tons you could get a 5/8 movement profile, 10+ tons of armor and more ammo with the same or more armament. The other iics have also deviated more in weight, i don't get why not here...
this is the most rng mech ever. you 1st got to hit the 2 shots then pray that clustering does not fuck you over which it often does. I like to refit mine with 0 JJs, no medium lasers, more armor, 2 tons of ammo. that way I get either 5 rounds of double tap or if I am shooting every round I need to cool down so 4 rounds of double tap and 2 rounds of single.
One of the rare occasions when the IIC version has a worse reputation for being a death trap than the original Inner Sphere design. Opportunity cost spares no one (not even Clanners), and if you want staggering amounts of firepower, either speed or armor has to be sacrificed. The Clan engineers chose to sacrifice armor… 6 tons of standard plate is just an absolute joke on a 50T brawler, and basically guarantees this mech is only good for suicide trades. If the Clanners had shown just a little bit of restraint, and stuck to a SINGLE “hunch” with a uAC/20, they could have made a truly dominant fast and tough brawler, with enough armor and secondary lasers to really dominate battlefields. But no … instead we got this laughably over-gunned and under-armored travesty, for disgraced pilots to literally go to their death in. Just goes to show that superior tech doesn’t solve all problems, and good judgment (or lack thereof) is the most important factor in making good mech designs.
I love this thing. Mechs are stupid and in a setting of nothing but stupid, having a dedicated stupid delete button is tons of fun! It helps if you think of it as a discount method of getting King Crab levels of firepower or as a tank on two legs. To be fair, much of my love it stems from the CCG. Thing was ABSOULUTELY AMAZING in being a guided missile.
This is one of the designs that I generally despise. It's so....'inefficient'... no ammo, no armor, no speed combinee with a short ranged armaments. Yuck. That being said I don't mind the dual guass variant and armor upgraded to Ferro-Fibrous. At least this gives the pilot a chance to fight before they die.
Hunchback IIC. For when you ain't got time to bleed, and you want to make sure your opponent doesn't either.

That is how Hunchback IICs work. They are beautiful in how crazy they are.
The Hunchback IIC - helping Solahma pilots make brief but lasting impressions since 2856.

To sleasy salesman: "I'll take my original order of 5 Demolishers. Thank you."
