Every little bit helps and I'll certainly be signal boosting the creator with Big Red; he did a video awhile back that sort of covered these events, though it's more of a review of Toranaga (AKA Chadanaga). Still though, getting a full review of Julian will be great :)
@@MatanuskaMechworks You've only just started making videos as of 2 months ago, as far as I can see, right? I've already noticed your channel, which bodes well for others seeing, too. This was great, and I learned a lot. Don't sell your vids short lol
This is true, but I won't count my eggs before they hatch 😅 Always room for improvement! Though I am a little proud of my speech delivery at the end... I felt like a real voice actor for a minute 😆
Yay, fresh lore! As someone who didn't play Battletech since around Fed-Com Civil War it's nice to be brought up to speed rather than being retold about Clan Invasion for umpteenth time. 😁
This is my first vid of yours I've found, came off a recommendation from the Mechanical Frog channel. I have to say I'm impressed and you've got a new subscriber. Great content and I love seeing modern maps of the inner sphere! Looking forward to seeing more and thank you for bettering the small but amazing BattleTech community.
I just finished reading Letter of the Law. Been a FWL fan for a while. I do like the IlClan era but I just wished the FWL was allowed to have more agency within the setting.
@@MatanuskaMechworks I'm reading Letter of the Law at the moment and whilst the novel is fine it's so frustrating reading about a faction that's wracked with infighting and indecision (see also Ghost Bear Dominion). I'm really hoping the storyline picks up for the FWL soon as is hinted at in Empire Divided and Redemption Rites.
Finally someone bothers to cover the ilClan era! It's not perfect like every other era but it's probably the most interesting in a while with pretty interesting characters
It has some good stories! I can understand lamenting the wizkids era lore, I did too, but at some point you either gotta move on or stay stagnant right?
@MatanuskaMechworks I lost all my old BT stuff. Had the original BT box with the plastic mechs never painted. Perfect condition. I'm buying it all back book by book. Got back in the game and trying to learn AS. I know little about this Era. So this is cool to me. I don't know much about the new time line.
Crowning yourself has been a very bold move historically. He'll be lucky if the church and the folk don't see it as a slap in the face to their time-honored traditions. If nothing else, it displays Bonaparte-esque arrogance or even hubris.
To be fair, Julian did vow to stand before the people when the crisis was over and let them decide if he was worthy to remain First Prince. That's more than many leaders do.
Glad for this! Keep it up, dont give up. Your channel gave great potentiale and opportunity. Thanks in due part that not yes, not many cover the ilClan era. Im a Rasalhague Dominion ( + Raven Alliance, Capellan and Aurigan Coalition ( done DIRTY too)fan ) but they got done DIRTY ( badly written, illogical non-R.D like desicions ) in Dominions Divided. I could rant on but not letting that overshadow an overall great era
I know right? I was a GB fan but DomDiv has me on the fence about covering it, because it will have to be by the book if I do... I will probably still cover it at some point though 😅
Davion was my first favorite faction. Hard NOT to like Victor Davion. Better relationships with the Draconis Combine back then too. Hopefully Julian can pull the Suns back.
It's really hard to find good primers to the ilCLan era. Especially since the latest games and succesful Battletech Kickstarters were all set in the „good old days“ of the 4th succession war and the Clan invasion. But i guess it was a bit hard for the wirters. There was this 50 year time skip after the WoB Jihad to establish the setting for the (now infamous) WizKids Mechwarrior Dark Age game. And when this finally failed, they had to work from there. So after a few more in univere years to wrap up the „Dark Age era“ and from all what i could gather the current situation is a follows: House Steiner was brutally beaten down by the Jade Falcons and Wolves and is barely holding together. The Lyrans are at their lowest point as it seems. The Davions, our old point-of-view faction and notorious good guys, did not fare much better after being ruled by the one crazy guy mentioned here. They were then bullied by the Combine who managed to take New Avalon and are currently doing what they do best - decimate the local population. The Kuritans apparently had some internal struggle, but they came up quite good out of it and launched a massive invasion into the FedSuns. They also captured some planets from the Ghost Bears, looking at the new map. House Marik was fractured for almost half a decade - well, okay, their leader played a huge role in the dumb Jihad business. But they reuinited during the Dark Age - but as always, the writers dont give the FWL that much of an attention. Finally, House Liao is stronger then ever - or to put it better: They are at least as strong as the Capellans were before the 1st succession war. They conquered all their lost territories back and then bite a huge chunck of of the Suns. And now looking at our favourite animal lovers and space eugenicists - the Clans: Clan Mary Sue, er Clan Wolf, finally managed to conquer Terra and became the ilClan. They then made the Falcon their b*tches and resurrected Clan Smoke Jaguar for some stupid reasons. Little to no intel on the other inner sphere Clans. The Ghost Bears have lost some wolds to the Combine apparently - and the other Clans are doing well in their territories as it seems. On the Clan homeworlds however there was a huge civil war that saw most of the remaining Clans destoyed and the remnants absorbed while the worlds were left almost stripped of all naturals resorces. The remaining Clans are now strictly isolantionist and wont be a mojor player in the future. However Clan Goliath Scorpion - after being exiled from the Clan homeworlds - conquered the Hanseatic League in the deep periphery, forming the Scorpion Empire. They might become a problem eventually, not sure if for the Clans of the inner sphere. Ah yes, and ComStar is finally gone - as apparantly now everyone and their mother can build and maintain HPG devices.
That's where you are wrong, bucko! She married Thaddeus Marik, divorcing Philip, in order to legitimize her rule through the Marik name. Read the novel "To Ride the Chimera"
I'm so glad that somebody is covering the Ilclan. It's hard to get into playing a new era without understanding its lore first)
I'm sure the bigger channels will get there eventually, but in the meantime.... 😅

I am not trying to be crazy that map needs a key because it looks bomkers😂. Love the video you Definitely got a sub.
Hell ya, Ilclan lore!
Consider it a place holder until one of the greats can catch up 😅

Only one way to make it bigger right? Thank you for the support!
Great stuff. Not knowing anything about this era I look forward to hearing the stories and getting an education. This is a solid start, keep it up!
Thank you for the kind words!
Part of my issue in getting into the ilClan period is the lack of knowledge of how we got there. This video was a huge help for me. Thank you.
That was my issue as well, so I figure if I can help with that then why wouldn't I?
IlClan Lore I’m in!!🎉🎉🎉
Let's goooooo
I just finished reading Letter of the Law. Been a FWL fan for a while. I do like the IlClan era but I just wished the FWL was allowed to have more agency within the setting.
I'm working through some of those as well, I just finished the two Dark Ages novels and will read the newer Ilclan era one soon!

FOR THE PRINCE!!!
yuuuuuuuuuuuut, good shit my dude. fast becoming one of my favorite B-tech up and comers on the 'tube 👍
Aw, gonna make me blush 😅
FOR THE REPUBLIC

@MatanuskaMechworks word up. The folks at CGL are doing a pretty valiant effort of progressing the timeline
Great video! A perfect prelude to dominions divided!
Well im hooked. Make part to. The retaking......
I'm furiously reading as we speak so I can make the next part as accurate as possible 😅

The Dracs are burning down their churches. I think the clerics have more pressing worries.

I love the Federated Suns.
Me too!
While I'm NOT A FAN of the Ilclan era this was an excellent video explaining the strategic and political situation.
Thanks! I'm sure you can find some plotlines that are enjoyable, even if the main clans plot line puts you off!
Davion was my first favorite faction. Hard NOT to like Victor Davion. Better relationships with the Draconis Combine back then too. Hopefully Julian can pull the Suns back.

Thanks, will do!
As ever, the problem with absolute monarchy is what happens when you get one bad ruler.
sucession war 2.0 okay neat when do we get to the part where the falcons mysteriously vanish and leave behind a small power vacuum
When I read those books, which you can do too!
Draconis Combine is my love
I love Japan
But sun is my 2nd favorite
my 3rd is Lyran
Good video but it is so hard to like the fedsuns.
I don't agree, but luckily there is a lot going on to get interested in at this point of the setting.
@ the cool thing is we can disagree and still be friends, good content.
There is no Jessica marik, only Jessica Halas-Hughes.
That's where you are wrong, bucko! She married Thaddeus Marik, divorcing Philip, in order to legitimize her rule through the Marik name. Read the novel "To Ride the Chimera"
Found the Regulan ;-)
