You should learn the whole album. I wanna see a Cosmic cover!
Oof that would be massively challenging but also awesome. If this video gets decent views & engagement I'll get on it 😎 (hopefully I don't regret these words)
@@cobuspotgieter you most certainly will regret it, brooks has a tendency to create deceivingly complicated patterns, and the final stretch of Cosmic is another one of them 😅
@@cobuspotgieter you definitely need to cover it bro
@@cobuspotgieternew sub, wanna see the whole album!
Would love to see him do We Love You. The timing and the fills on it sound pretty difficult.
How can you not love Brooks, what a beast of a drummer, he brought so much dynamism to the band!
Still prefer the rev ❤️
@@dasbose9999 Yeah but he's dead and gone, nothing anyone can do about that, Brooks is amazing for these guys now.
@@dasbose9999wake up!, he's gone
@mcdohlburger1476 I know and? Avenged had theyre prime with him and he was one of the greatest drummers ever not only cause of his drumming skills. Theyre music today isn't good songs like Afterlife Bat Country A Little piece of heaven will always be theyre best songs.
@dasbose9999 I agree and probably my taste in music has changed over the years but last album (The Stage) was my favorite from them, they took a prog metal approach and I enjoyed every single song from that album. Now... as for this new album... not so much. But Brooks on The Stage was a breath of fresh air.
I really appreciate this new direction you are headed towards Cobus! It is fun and entertaining, and also gives us some insight into how you approach drumming and writing parts. Thanks a lot!
Wish you a great day!
A7X + Drum lesson + Cobus, what a unbelievable work! Great job, Cobus!
13:16. My dude, to me this has been the most interesting thing you've done in a while. I might just borrow this format and try it for myself. Showing the struggle and seeing how you learn is great fun to watch. It also greatly increased my appriciation for this song, because I didn't really like it when I listened to it at first. This song has some killer fills and is filled with great details. Things you only hear when you carefully listen.
These type of videos are awesome!! We see the final product of the covers but we don’t really see the BTS of actually learning a song. 🔥 We’re all humans and even the best gotta learn new stuff at times & seeing you Cobus learn a song this difficult is just extremely satisfying. We need more videos like this please..
Awesome work, man. Appreciate watching you go through the process of learning the song as well. Cheers!
You did an incredible job, I love seeing you overcome struggles and learn new stuff. It's super interesting to see behind the scenes!
You're an amazing drummer, You make any song look easy even how difficult it is. Keep up the great work!!
Dude, seriously thank you for posting this. Every time I learn a difficult song I go through this exact dreadful process lol. It’s really cool seeing someone who influenced me experience it too. Brings a human/relatable element to your videos. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
You're amazing drummer cobus! Really fun and cool how you try perceive a song..I can't wait for the full video! 🔥
Thoroughly enjoyed this, man! Not that seeing you struggle gives me joy, but watching you grow and get better in a 25 minute video is REALLY cool, man. Gives other drummers encouragement to keep going even if they don't feel good about a song at first.
Absolutely loved this video Cobus!! You've come SO far!! It's so cool seeing how interpret and approach a song to learn!! Incredible stuff!
Really great to see the process! Thanks for posting this, nice to see the other side of a polished cover :)
I’ve recently been binging the playlist on Drumeo where Brandon makes the guest drummer learn a song they’ve never heard on the spot. Super cool series, and so much fun to see everyone’s different processes for learning and learning a song quickly. Loved this video!
Also, your double bass struggles just prove you’re human. Nothing wrong with that! Keep crushing it, man 🤘🏻🙂
Brilliant video. I’m in awe at how quickly you learned this insanely complex drum part. You’re my favorite drummer on UA-cam, and one of my absolute favorite drummers period. It’s great to see the longer hair again. It reminds me of the days when you were makin covers in your old church with the sweatbands around your forearms. I’m so glad to see how far you’ve come since then, and that you can now make videos in your own house.
God bless you Cobus. ✝️ 🥁 🎵
This was so sick! Super fun format. It’s so cool to see how you struggle, adapt and learn, and you’ve always been very good at talking to camera so this is a joy. More of this plz ❤
This is really good to see how you tackle the songs and how you break them down and learn them etc ... Its really good this concept Cobus!
Cobus you're the one that got me into A7x (and into drums actually) with your series of covers from 15 years ago. Now seeing your learning one of my new fav song genuinely makes me happy, keep up the good work
This video was far more fun to watch than just a regular cover. Love the process! Wish to see more!
I would love to see you cover this when you spend plenty of time practicing. I know you said you don’t like the video but I think it’s great seeing how such amazing musicians do in fact struggle when learning songs. Seeing how great you are does sometimes make me forget you are human and have to learn them too!
Absolutely loved this video! Nice to see the struggle we all go through but how much you’re still enjoying yourself in the process. Would love to see a tonne more like this
I really REALLY love this kind of video, as a drummer especially - really inspiring to see you can also be daunted by a song, and it's lovely to see your learning process
I've only seen your covers before back in the day, first time seeing a full video of this format, and you're really entertaining on camera! Did a great job, it ain't easy
Really enjoy this format hope to see more in the future
What an awesome video Man! Love the process of how you go through the song and how much you struggle like a real boy! Gives the rest of us some peace 👍
Dang behind the smile and laughter also the performance in the end i can really feel the frustration on trying to make or even making your own part of the fill. But you still kept your cool and maintained your focus on the song and parts cobus! Thank you for showing us for practice it really inspired me specially few years back im on the verge on giving up on drumming as i felt like im not making any progress at all but your drum covers really inspired me to keep going, enjoy going outside the comfort zone, and most importantly practice! Been a fan of yours since 2013! Much love cobus 🙏
I loved it! I’m a huge avenged fan and usually quite critical but I actually adore you, you’re effort and your video. Great stuff!!!
brooks is such a fucking amazing drummer i cant even fathom to be able to play that good. love your vids cobus been watching since you released original bat country video
I love that you're still going. You really helped develop my obsession with drumming. You're incredible. Keep it up ❤
Love seeing the progression of learning a new song! I think all drummers know the struggle of learning some of the crazy drum parts that exist (just not while on camera).
Definitely do more videos like this loving it and the struggle
Sick format video, love this
You nailed it Cobus!!
Amazing Cobus! it really shows what us drummers has to go through while learning a song, definitely worth posting! you are great, keep going man.
Honestly this kinda video needs to be normalized. Many people are unconsciously deceived thinking the perfect video they just watched didn't take effort.
more vids like this please, this was so badass
I saw the all thing. SO good Cobus. Keep this shizzle coming!
I need this level of drum videos for the whole album and for other songs going forward. Spot on ❤
This style of video is so good to watch. Watching how you learn a song for a video and reacting to the music is great entertainment. Hope to see more of these.
Please make more content like this! It’s nice to have someone to study with 🔥
Ton of fun to watch you work dude, keep it up. I've done string instruments for 25 years now, and it's always interesting to hear how others deal with limits or with certain things they struggle with. I have a ton of trouble with doing anything over 64th notes with bow-work for violin. I dunno if it is coordination or practice (probably some of both), but either way I hafta work around it in different ways like slurring or masking it. Also struggle a ton with proper vibrato with my pinky finger. Every musician has things they struggle with, so you aren't alone. Absolute legend!
I loved this, it's really nice seeing the process of figuring out songs, especially tricky ones like this
awesome content! love to see your learning process!
First vid ive seen from you, already love it!
One of your best and funnest videos to watch. You give hope to us mortals that the struggle is real. You rock sir!
Man I just love the regular uploads, keep up the great work! :)
I love this type of content! For a frustrated drummer, this is therapy for me. I feel like I am the one learning it. Thank you!
OMG more of this Cobus!!!
I love this. I enjoyed this video immensely. It doesnt always have to be super polished and pristine. We know youre capable of perfection, I like the realism and candid feel of this video Cobus
This is madness!. I love this concept that playing while learning. This make my day @cobus Thanks.
Man I remember discovering your channel with your old A7X covers, you never cease to amaze me 🤘🏼
You're a legend Cobus. Impressive execution for a very difficult (as always) Brooks Wackerman Avenged song. Great to see this content from you! Cheers!
I love the hoensty of this video. You are having that moment during practice that literally every one of us has during practice, I'm looking at you and saying "I KNOW!"
And you still play incredibly in the video.
I can't wait to see the cover 🫶
Definitely do more videos like this man 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The beauty of music is its VERSATILITY! Cobus, you did well with adjusting to what you have! Great WORK!!
Love this new concept so much, bro🔥
Love this video man 🔥🔥
I love it, good job man!
Wow, that was.simply amazing to see you learn and play from scratch. A+ 🤘😀 Cheers from Australia. 🇦🇺🪃🍻
good to see what goes on behind the scenes learning and not just the final cover 🔥
Amazing! Possibly my fav song of the album
Awesome job dude!! Brooks is an absolute monster and his work on this album is nuts.
at 18:55 when you hit the herta then smirk a little bit I could help but crack a smile. The main reason I have been watching you drum on youtube for what feels like 15 years is its obvious that you enjoy doing it. All the best my man
Love the raw stuff!
Seeing you in this vulnerable state, gives me hope as a drummer. Thanks for being transparent, friend.
Brooks paradiddles on the bass drum... Cobus "okay...okay". hahaha. Haven't seen you in a while man, glad you are still covering my favorite band. \m/
love the content bro, need more like this :)
Man I can relate to this struggle when learning a new song. The ups and downs of emotions. Like you're happy you're getting some parts right then you mess up some parts up, almost sometimes giving up and calling myself stupid for not getting it right. It works out eventually.
Wow! Thats an amazing content Man! I really Love it ❤️
About 15 years ago i saw a video calls "drum cover - the great escape" than blows my flipping mind away!
4 years ago mi 3 years old first son saw your videos with his old man and jumped and knowed how looks to play and enjoy the music in the drums.
now after 15 years here we are, my 7 and 2 years old boys and i watching you how you keep blowing away our flipping minds.
keep it up Cobus! You are a inspiration for two generations for some of us.
LDS bru'!
You’re awesome dude🔥
the whole album is sick! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. i love this kind of video. it's awesome to see how you learn a song, especially when it's come to your favorite one cz i can relate 😁.
Nicee pretty fun vid! Watching your process of trying to learn a song is great, especially being A7X haha. Should make more of these!
Awesome video Cobus! I like this video format, if you were to ever do anymore you should try some NeckDeep, few good songs to try are Gold Steps, Telling stories, or Fall. Keep up the amazing work man!
This is video made my day. Used to watch cobus covered Afterlife back in my junior high school days.
Now this is just amazing content to see even the pro struggled a lil bit to cover the whole song. Amazing process.
Yeah, dude! Awesome video, well done🔥 for 1.5h I think you crushed that song. Cant wait to hear a version of it that you are happy with, thats gonna be sick.
This is honestly more inspiring than watching you just shred the hell out of the drums. Puts all the hard work and practice you put into it into perspective. Keep being awesome Deedlebag 😊
That’s so cewl. I’ve only ever sat down and learned songs a handful of times but the ones I learned were much easier then this and I struggled as much as you did. This was really really good. You don’t suck.
BeastMode my friend! Keep it up!
Thank you so much for sharing the struggle. Love to see your approach and progress. Also I'm sure you know you don't suck at the drums.
Sometimes knowing doesn't help though.
Well done Cobus, jyt n amazing job gedoen 🔥🤙🏻
At first I thought this was going to be just another drummer showing off how they nailed a difficult song but I was impressed by how down to earth you are in the video! I am also not as fast as I want to be with my kicks and seeing a great player like you own it and use your creativity instead with the difficult part made me more at peace with my own 'incapability'. Great video, Cobus!
Such a great video. Had me laughing out loud at the “carving a niche” :)
muy bueno Cobus!
Looking like Tom Cruise in early mission impossible videos here Cobus - and the song definitely suits the bill of "impossible"! Loved seeing how you approach it, and seeing the "behind the scenes" that we all have to go through.... take it through the top!
Major props to you for posting this video, you captured the actual feeling us drummers have when learning a new song or new part , and by the way you are a ninja drummer Luke Holland told me haha🤘
That was really good idea to do it on camera. You putting your struggles on camera makes you even better drummer, you are amazing my man!
Very nice! You earned my sub!
You killed that song! That was incredibly impressive! Only an hour and a half and you got that close to the original! You crushed it! Loved the video!
Daaamn good job man !! 😮
Dude this video made my day
I remember ur a7x covers from a decade ago
@Cobus Love it, I relate a lot to this. The only way to grow is pushing through the uncomfortability of new things
I love so much your video Cobus ! Keep going it's so cool my friend drummer :)
holy shit that was sick thanks for this Cobus
Props to you bro. Most people a) wouldn’t show this process because of how “imperfect” it looks, and b) probably would have given up because of the difficulty of the song. I’ve always had mad respect for you but that mad respect level is at 100 now.
Fantastic.i will listen to this track in a whole different light with new found levels of appreciation 🤘
I mean I think you did really freakin good ! With exception to the double kick part initially but, even that you managed a way to figure it out differently.
Between the kick drum flam bit and the wicked snare bit.. I was in awe. Crazy how difficult this song is..
I really like your covers!
I remember a year and a half ago when I saw your cover for critical acclaim and I just loved it.
And I really liked this video where you learn how to drum the song,
I enjoyed every second of it!! Waiting for another video like this where you learn to drum the song Cosmic ( PLSSS I'm beggin)
This might be the coolest video you've uploaded since that youtube meme medley from years ago!
