Greek cuisine is the best I have tasted in the world. I have traveled to 35-40+ countries, But when I am in Greece, I have never eaten so heavenly as there. Angels on my tongue
Thailand. If you think Greece is awesome for food, Thailand will blow your mind.
@@TomFooleryTheAustere Greek food fighs for the nr1 spot of the world in the worlds 50 best cuisines of World Taste Atlas 2022 and 2023 onwards. Thailand is pretty nice in the list too. I would still regard it as a good cuisine.
The finest Greek dish of all is the Stifado. It works perfectly with game meat as well. I've made it with Venison, Elk and Bison meat. Personally, I've never cooked with Shallots, I use Vidalia onions in this recipe. Next time I'll try the Shallots. Your dish looked amazing.
Ah, now this is REAL food. I can't wait to try this one. I am yearning for Greece and a glass of Retsina. Thank you sweet lady for taking the time to show us your recipes.
Well, that's what I called comfort food, especially during winter time. Thanks for sharing this recipe.
Sure is comforting! Thanks so much :)
Hi Dimitra, I made the stew last night and slightly modified the recipe by keeping the chuck whole and increasing the cooking time. The flavour of the meat and the aromatics and the tomato gravy were just unbelievable. And the shallots added the nicest sweetest taste to the dish. The recipe is easy to follow and is a 10/10 on the tasty scale! Thank you for sharing this with us!
Awesome!! I love hearing this :) Thanks for letting me know. Also, if you're on Instagram, share a pic with me is you have any. xo
Went to Rhodes on holiday years ago and that was the first time I tasted Beef Stifado. Always wanted to make it but couldn't find a decent recipe. Can't wait to try this very delicious looking recipe. Thank you.
Thank you for inspiration - my family is going to have this wonderful slowcook Today . Your love to the onions is the secret, I Think.
Finally my favorite Greek recipe can't wait to make it. My children's Yia yia is a wonderful cook but will never share her recipes.
That is common! Guarded trade secret!
This is the only and correct way to make stifado! I have seen other videos but this is how I learned it in Greece.
Thank you so much I have been waiting for you to show this recipe as have asked for it in the comments section along with Klefitico and sofrito you never let us down. Cant wait to give it a go
I blended this recipe with your braised lamb and tomato sauce recipe and it was great! Your channel is my new favorite 🤩
made this for the second time today .... loving it ... great video
I would've done the same!! Lots of onions on my plate,! Awesome dish!!
Love your recipes, they are comfort food. My beef stew is pretty similar, except with chopped onion, oregano, and yukon gold potatoes. I'll have to try yours. All the best.
I lived in Xania, Crete in the early 70s, I would go to a taverna called Kanouria on the waterfront. The made the best stifada you could imagine and served it with a bottle of Domestica wine. I'll try this recipe.
Hi Dimitra.
I checked out loads of recipe's, your's looked the best.
I made this Saturday evening.
I've never cooked Greek before.
My partner who is a Cypriot said it was fantastic. .

That looks great. Hope to try making it soon. Thanks for sharing!
It is amazing!
Made that tonight for supper with roast potatoes and buttered green beans. Only change was to leave the lid off for the last 30 mins to thicken up the sauce. Very nice and hearty!
I had this dish in Corfu town at the place made famous by Rick Stein, I visited the place just for their stifado, and your recepy looks just like that, I have good grass fed beef, so tomorrow I will make this awesome stew. Beautiful dish made by a pretty girl, you can't go wrong.
Really delicious! let me know how yours turns out and thanks for watching :)
Dimitra's Dishes I just finished the dish, it is exactly how I remembered, it is such a caracteristic flavour, it has big flavours.
Delicious! I use the gravy for garnishing my spaghetti and add grated cheese !
Sounds delightful!
This is my fave dish growing up too. My yia yia made this with kouneli but definitely a basiliko dish

So excited to try it :))
Yay! Let me know how it turns out :)
Hi, Dimitra. How would you feel about marinading the beef in red wine, and keeping it in the fridge overnight ? Is this something you would do ? I think the meat would be tenderised and the sauce enhanced. Just a thought. Your recipe is a good one.
Looks great! I was just wondering, what's a good starch/carb to accompany this?
A nice warm loaf of bread goes great. My Mediterranean Rice or even any potato dish would be good too.
One of my favorite recipes. I agree about the onions in this dish and I'm not an onion lover.
Nagyon finom
How many servings are there in this?😊 just wondering 😊
This is called "papaz yahnisi" in Turkey and means "priest's stew". Mostly know as a local Istanbul dish, probably from 'Rum', local Greeks.
Καλή η συνταγή. Μαζεψε τα μαλλιά σου !
My Yia used to make this a couple times a year. All the boys would fight over the onions so she bought a huge pot so she could make like 3 or 4 bags of onions every time lol.
Hi Dimitra, what's the diameter of that pot you're using?
make some pakistani foods dishes u will like our foods... tnx u... tasty
My husband is from Pakistan & I LOVE your food!!! Thanks so much for watching :)
mmmmmm 😋😋😋👍🏻 luvvly ❤️
isn't the base supposed to be red wine?
3:11 If you are browning your meat why put the lid back on? All that steam stops the browning process. Same outcome as over-crowding.
which cut of beef works the best for this dish? Also, can i substitute shallots with red onions, as that many shallots will cost a fortune here :P
chuck is my favorite cut for this dish. You may substitute any small onions. If you will be using large onions I recommend cutting them in 4 chunks, keeping them from separating, and roasting them until caramelized with some olive oil and salt. Just add them to the stew at the very end. When the meat is completely cooked. Enjoy!
Do shallots and onions have the same name in Greek?
so funny, I make it so different I add raisins and cinnamon! and instead of red wine vinegar i use white wine! :)
Nice! I've never had it with raisins. Do you also put onions in yours?
+Dimitra's Dishes yes! usually chunks of any onions I happend to have.
Are you serving this in your restaurant?
Not yet.
mmmmmmm 😋😋😋❤️👍🏻
👏👏👏👏👏
Ist das Rindfleisch?
Can I just cut up sweet onions and use
I highly recommend using some type of small onion like shallot or pearl onions. If they are difficult to find then cut up a sweet onion into 4 chunks. Try not to separate the chunks. Drizzle some oil over them and broil them on a tray in your oven until golden and soft. Cook the stew for 1 and 1/2-2 hours or until it is thick and the meat has completely cooked and softened. Add the roasted onions in the end. Shake the pot to incorporate them. Let me know how it turns out.
+Dimitra's Dishes
Thank you...I will do this. No shallots or pearl , around, that I can find...I was raising them, but I dehydrated all of them and cut them up. Grrrrr.
+7891234able they're sometimes sold in the freezer section :)
+Dimitra's Dishes
Ok will look at Walmart. Tyvm
Great. But I would have put the meat in a bowl, then rinsed the juice into the pan with the beef stock. I would also have rinsed the tomato can with the water. I waste nothing...
I put red dry wine in it.
Why not tip them in instead of tonging ever piece?
It’s ridiculous.
Sorry Dimitra....using beef stock is a BIG deal!
Stiffado without red wine !!! Never
Put those meat drippings in there!!
I did :)
