Made this recipe last night....and OMG!!! it was so so delicious...had people over for dinner....seemed like everyone just inhaled it....thank you so much for the recipe. I always watch your recipes but now I will start making them as well. 😋😋😋😋😋
I grew up with this dish from my grandma although she's full blown columbian but I remember this dish! So good I'm glad I found it through you cant wait to recreate it and bring back some memories:)
It’s very similar to the Lebanese fish, Kafta with potato’s although we add rings of onion, sliced tomatoes and rings of potato. We use lamb with grated onion and parsley mixed together and made into balls. Sauce is the same. Made yours and was yummy, thx again for a great dish. 🌞🌞
Always ready to taste new dishes! Yummy, yum! Doing the air fryer way. Waving to you from south Georgia-land of best Peaches, boiled Peanuts, & Vidalia onions! ; )
Triple thumbs up!!! ...love love love this recipe. Have made in twice in the last two weeks! So delicious!!! Will be trying the lemon version next week.
I made this for dinner tonight (with a few variations due to isolation ingredients being somewhat lacking. But it was absolutely delicious. Thank you Dimitra & best wishes from the UK
I add both breadcrumbs and grated potatoes (how my mother used yo make them). It helps bulk out the mixture especially if you feeding a lot of people. To 500g of minced beef, I would add say, 3 medium size potatoes.
Grated potato is how we make keftedes in Cyprus. Some people use that instead of breadcrumbs. I use both. And I always use gluten free breadcrumbs. I’m the Uk we can get Mrs Crimbles gluten free bread crumbs. Which are really good.
When I aaked my friend who is Lebonese and Greek..😉 she was very surprised that I noticed it. She told me her Lebonese mother always but lemon and one to two cinnamon sticks in the water of her chicken soup. It was not bad at all, but I was the only one out of her 8 guest that detected the hint of the cinnamon flavor. Is an Arabic thing 😁
This looks amazing - definitely have to try it. Do you think you could do a video on what you pack for your kids’ lunches? Like how you use your recipes to create a cold lunch? I’m trying to get away from lunch meat and boring old sandwiches.
This recipe would be perfect for lunch! It tastes wonderful at room temperature because the meatballs are so soft, but you can also take the meatballs and make a sandwich for the kids :) Yumm!! I will try to do some videos on utilizing leftovers :) Thanks for the idea!!
Dimitra's Dishes I have sent meatballs, and they were a big hit which is why I thought to ask after seeing your video. I’m also planning on making your souvlaki to put on a sandwich. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks for replying! 😃
Made it and it was a massive hit, added to the favorites list. By the way I'm sure aluminum foil is totally safe. If you were told it causes Alzheimer's that's a myth.
hi guys, I have made this a few times, and even cheat versions when stuck for time or lazy and here is what I have learned: -passata or any tinned tomatoes will work, but will be less saucy if whole tomatoes are not blended. -1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder/dried garlic will work in place of 1 fresh clove. - you can make a quicker, cheat sauce by adding everything to large microwave boil and microwave for 10 minutes. I leave out the olive oil as not frying and calorie conscious. -you can cheat and use ready made meatballs or even burgers, but burgers and unseasoned meatballs won't be as tasty. -you can cheat and use ready made sauce- most tomato sauces will work, something like an arrabiata or marinara- but add more water, about 1-2 times the volume of the sauce and more flavour with oregano, dried garlic, dried onion, salt, pepper.
I had chicken soup that the broth had a note of cinnamon. I noticed in many of your recipes you use cinnamon, do you also use cinnamon when you make chicken soup?
It's so nice to hear the "Beeftekia me patates sto fourno" from you!!!!! It's a classic family dish!!!!!

No need for so many condiments and spices. Here in Greece we use a few basic ones which work well.

For gluten free Panko substitute, I use rice crispy cereal after it has been finely ground in the food processor.
I use a dried slice of gluten free bread, and place it in the food processor to make bread crumbs.
Have mine in the oven now! 😄👏🏼
Yummm!! Have a plate for me too!! This is my favorite comfort food :)

This looks delicious and in the meantime you can put my name down for the lemony version as well! (Whenever you have time of course...….)
Please make avgolemono keftedakia and Thessalian kapamas which are made in yoghurt broth.
I do have a recipe already up called youvarlakia. It's an avgolemono meatball soup. Delicious!

I was raised in an Italian household.....if you don’t have homemade breadcrumbs, 3/4 cup steamed rice is a good substitute !
This looks amazing - definitely have to try it. Do you think you could do a video on what you pack for your kids’ lunches? Like how you use your recipes to create a cold lunch? I’m trying to get away from lunch meat and boring old sandwiches.

Can you start saying the meat in Grams cause I used 1 pound like you said and I didn’t have that many meatballs like you did
Dimitria, my friend has a lemon tree but he's allergic to citrus so I get free lemons!
Please do the lemon version of this!
Cumin will be great in it if its beef-lamb mince what you think of allspice ?
I love cumin too. I've never tried allspice here.
I use Allspice balls in almost all of my dishes that include tomato based sauces as in my Greek vegetable dishes.
Made it and it was a massive hit, added to the favorites list. By the way I'm sure aluminum foil is totally safe. If you were told it causes Alzheimer's that's a myth.
Is the lemon version of this dish available on your website?
Not yet. I will teach the lemony version soon :)
Lemon recipe meatballs recipe please
What you think of nutmeg in it ?
I'm not the biggest fan of nutmeg... But, if you like it, you should add some :)
My child hood memories
Add one minute Quick Oats! Is cinnamon traditionally added to Greek dishes?
Yes, it is often added to tomato based dishes.
Yummmmy
😋 yum
Lemon! 😊

I am just wondering why I dont see you in the food network channel.
Haha! They probably don’t know I exist 😂
Panko bread crumbs come also gluten free.
What part of Greece are you from?
The island of Crete 💙
I had chicken soup that the broth had a note of cinnamon. I noticed in many of your recipes you use cinnamon, do you also use cinnamon when you make chicken soup?
Cinnamon pairs well with tomato-based dishes so, I love to add it to them. I've never tried it in broths. How was it? Did you like it?
Many grocery stores now sell gluten free bread crumbs
I can't eat tomato sauce based dishes so please give us the lemon based based one of this dish. Thanks
Recipe is not attached.
Sorry about that. It's there now :)
Paprika also in it.
Over boiled rice is what we use in Italy
What a great idea!! I will add that to my memory bank for next time :)
Quick oats
I love the football one's better😀
Me too!!
Σαν μανά σαν κορι μπραβο Δήμητρα.
Dairy is nasty anything we can sub for the eggs? The cheese can be left out so not concerned about that
You can add mashed potatoes. That would be a good substitute and I've also heard that flax seeds are a great substitute for eggs.
Buy gluten free bread and let it go stale then grate it and there you have gluten free bread crumbs
Kofte? This is Turkish food :)
