The I am autism psa never fails to have me SEETHING.
I'm currently in the process of getting an autism diagnosis, I've spent my life feeling like I wasn't human, that I didn't belong. I never understood why people treated me like I was some sort of monster, why loud noises made me so panicked, why I was able to remember obscure facts about psas, animation and gaming youtubers but be unable to start a conversation or pass a maths test; so me fighting for a diagnosis is/was a literal fight for my life.
So to have people go ahead and make a whole campaign claiming that people like me are a "burden" and need to be cured or fixed is beyond infuriating...
I got the diagnosis when I was 4, which is cool.

I don't like it either, but more because the narrator's voice bothers me than because of the organization itself, and before you ask,yes I'm on the spectrum too
This is far from the most blaring issue in the PSA, but I love how it acts like Autism is some disease people contract and not just something you're born with. Clearly, Autism Speaks really knows about Autism. Almost like it isn't a reputable organization!
God, that autism PSA is awful. Autism Speaks is just such a disgusting company. As someone with autism, I'm very offended.

That's the reason why I support Autistic Self Advocacy Network or ASAN for that reason. if had a dollar for every time Autism Speaks says that do some "research" to "help" people on the spectrum. I would have done a segment in that mst3k episode attack of the eye creatures "they just didn't care" segment. The Autism speaks the version of the segment of why they just didn't care about people on the spectrum. 😞😡👿😾
As Someone who has been diagnosed with ASD a Few years ago, The Autism Speaks PSA never fails to make me upset.
Considering this PSA made autism look “Evil” and “Was capable of taking your children’s lives” when in reality; The only thing autism changes about us is our ability to socialise, communicate and behave (Which is was autism speaks SHOULD understand!) and is just plain offensive.
Glad i live in the UK, Nobody knows Autism Speaks in where i live. :)
I have Autism and just looking at that PSA makes me pissed as hell! I already have to deal with people making fun of me at school, and I don’t want a PSA telling me I’m a menace!

Of course. And despite that I am on the spectrum myself, I put that in the Dishonorable Mentions on my recent Top 10 PSAs.

That Barnardo's psa is just controversial for being too effective. Like, the psa about the cycle of abuse, addiction, and violence made them uncomfortable? Good. It's supposed to. Idk what people expect from it. lol
For real. Like it’s supposed to make you uncomfortable. You’re supposed to feel that way because any kind of abuse being discussed in a serious realistic manner should bring discomfort. If it doesn’t then you should really ask yourself why.
I swear i was not surprised Peta made that first one. Just as bad as that goofy ass screaming fish ad where they compared bullying, DV and getting robbed to eating meat 🤦♀️🤦♀️
PETA would force every mammal, fish, bird, arthropod and amphibian to be vegan if they could.
And don't forget about 2020 ad they collaborated with Netflix. Show about a certain killer that they did a print ad about that no damn sense or any context in any way, then that psa from Colorado about animal cruelty. 😡😡😡👿🤬
I was waiting for the My Little Puppy PSA. I've said it before on one of your videos, but i think it's a great PSA. It's reflective of how too many households see animals as a cute and fun thing for their home without doing the proper research. While the dad drowning the dog can be extreme, I still think that it's a great representation of how these sort of people treat their pets when they realize how big of a responsibility they are. I've met some puppies who were found in a box in the woods by luck. There are too many people who tie their dogs out to a tree or something in the middle of nowhere. I happened to see two dogs tied to a trashcan outside my work with notes taped to their harnesses about their situation, their names, their behavior, and their breeds. They both went to good homes but they were absolutely filthy so we broke the rules and bathed them even though we don't have them on file.
Sorry, I get very passionate about animals, especially dogs since I work with them. You wouldn't believe the sad state we see some dogs in when they come in for a bath and/or haircut. We can't report them because we'll be told that the dog isn't neglected because they went in for our services.
I do hate the I Am Autism psa but I can’t help but laugh at the melodrama of it all. Like in a bitter ironic way. Like yes, raaaah I’m so scary cause I have autism. Like bro I’m fine I’ll just talk your head off about Sonic. At the worst I’m annoying. Like the time my spintrest was the Montana Meth Project psas when I was like ten and I got kicked from a family bonfire and I wouldn’t stop talking about them and “bringing down the mood” like sorry you’re lame and don’t think that’s cool.

The carbon emissions one just gets me; less “guilt tripping people into cutting their emissions” more literal “murder is okay if it makes a difference in carbon emissions so minor that no-one would even notice.
And let’s be real, plenty of kids would be ignored if they asked their parents to cut their emissions.
The funniest thing is they spent money on it, they spent money on multiple gallons of fake blood (that will ironically end up in the ocean), they spent money on the actors, on renting the set, they spent money on everyone who was involved, the electricity used to film it and the spot in tv.
All of that money, just for the psa to be taken off the television.
Instead they could have started petitions for accessible access to schools by anyone who doesn’t have a car, they could have funded more bicycle roads, they could have funded solar panels for some schools.
But it’s way easier to blame it on the kids, why do anything when you can sit there patting yourself on the shoulder while you blame other people who have no choice in the matter? Why do anything when you can just be performative?
Ugh, I saw the first few frames of the child at the start of the I Am Autism vid and cringed so hard. I'm on the spectrum myself and Autism Speaks is the actual worst. I hope the poor kids they used in it are all doing alright these days
I felt the same since my fiancé has autism but is on level 1. Hate how it is portrayed here like it was an awful illness. Legit feels like my psoriasis. Even tho it’s not even contagious, just looks terrible when I have flare ups but it only affects me not others.
I actually like the "No pressure" one, I just think it's funny. Fun fact about that one actually: One of the actors in this one starred in a really popular British sitcom, he also died a couple of years ago. RIP Paul Ritter.

The autism one makes me so mad because as an autistic person I already don’t feel like I belong sometimes. What makes it worse was that in the comments from my fake job interview for a class, I was told not to mention that I am autistic (I used it as a challenge I overcame because I was 17 at the time, what else was I supposed to say??) because it might be a turn-off for employers

Just remembered there was a PETA PSA showing a clip of a cat being made to do tricks and being hit for getting it wrong. Everyone noticed it was CGI, so they released a follow up PSA showing the making of it and explaining they were trying to make a point about circus animals or something. It was pretty controversial for using a fake clip.
Edit: I think it was called Rufus the cat. Found newer versions of the PSA that have a clip at the end saying it's fake but saying it happens in real life to circus animals and shows some footage of it and the PSA explain why they did it. The original was deleted from their channel.
A great compilation Zach, I find it curious that people/parents complain about controversial/scary ones, as they are meant to be to raise awareness of the relevant topic.
That I Am Autism PSA mades my eyes roll so hard that they hurt (edit: omg that WWF one tf was that?)
Another psa for me that isn't on this list is Evan from sandy hook promise because it's so uneffective as they make anti social or bullied kids look like dangerous people who want to do something horrible shown in the psa which isn't true at all and gets the point of preventing shootings very poorly . The ad makes being bullied or quiet a sign of planning a shooting which leads to a harmful steryotype of kids who are bullied or introverted as dangerous people and it just leads to increased isolation and bullying when most of us just want a friend who would listen to us without judging us. I remember when I first saw that psa, I felt offended as I did everything I could to not be a steryotype especially because of the quiet kid memes yet unfortunately I got bullied a lot and someone even made up rumors about me saying I made a threat through text message saying I was gonna do what happened in the psa at the party which is something I never did or planned to and I was bullied relentlesly about it and I still get bullied it got to the point in which I had to be homeschooled in my last months of my senior year which is bad. I've never felt so offended and angry by a psa in the past. Btw cool upload!
I'm an autistic person and that Auti$m $peaks PSA is so excruciatingly bad because while makes autism sound like Cancer 2, it also made me wonder how many autistic people negatively affected by making them think that they are not "really autistic" because they are not as the PSA presents.
Thanks for putting a warning for Sound of Suffering, telling people to turn the volume up and put to on headphones is honestly a poor idea especially when it contains real life audio of animals being abused which will most likely cause people to have anxiety attacks.
It's all good, the original audio is about 3x louder than what I edited it to as well. Honestly nearly hurt my ears when I accidentally played it whilst editing
i didn’t get sound of suffering specifically, but i did get one of the peta knockoffs (the one about owls i think) WHILE I WAS LISTENING TO ASMR TRYING TO SLEEP. when i tell you my trust issues were irreparably worsened that night

I don't know, I don't feel like I ever have that much to say about print PSAs. Maybe I will make a video about them in the future but it wouldn't go further than that to be honest

Also domestic violence is so complex since some victims sometime go back to the perpetrator. Which is complicated, most you can do it offer support and a place to stay unless they don’t want to accept it. Especially with kids and no financial means. They end up going back until they are ready to move on and leave the perpetrator. Sad but it happens since I’ve seen it in my family. 🙁
Fun fact: one of the makers of the no pressure exploding kids psa is Richard Curtis, the creator of Mr Bean 😂

I’m not going to lie. I can’t get mad at PETA ads aside from mildly angry at the milk causing autism billboard. Everything they do is like mostly shock tactics. Especially in their psas. My god. I’ve watch comps of them for the hell of it and they had a kid at a thanksgiving dinner describe what turkey farms do to their turkies to fatten them up and shit in graphic detail type shit. It’s more eye roll worthy than anything else. Like yeah I’m sure a child would know all of that and think it was a good idea to say that shit before people were fucking eating. Ridiculous
