Having been abused as a kid, the Scream PSA is really relatable. I didn't even know I was being abused until I was a teenager. Even then, I wanted to tell people, but got too scared to. My parent's gaslighting made me think I was dramatic.
Now that I'm grown and out of the house, I can finally heal and tell my story without falling apart.
I'm a survivor.
Damn that is horrible, I hope that you are able to heal as much as possible after those terrible events
@@Zach.R Healing is gradual. I've never felt happier on my own. My fiance is so supportive and patient.
@NettleStarz I've been getting better. I can feel happy and do things for myself without thinking I'm selfish. I'm not the unlikable person they made me out to be. I recently rehabilitated a kitten and I felt like I learned a lot about myself.

Something that probably isn’t intentional about the heroin psa at the start, but I find interesting, is that the word “life” gets cut off at the end. In other words, life gets cut short.
Yeah I don't think that was intentional but if it was it would be kind of funny but also interesting if they cut it off to have meaning for it

I've always found the "Excuses" psa more depressing than scary.
I think the right word (at least for me) is unsettling. kinda scary, kinda upsetting, plus it stays with u for a bit.

God, even though there are certainly scarier psas, the image of a doctor squeezing plaque out of an artery like it’s toothpaste has stuck with me since I was a kid.
Yeah I agree with that, I saw the quitline anti-smoking PSAs constantly in my childhood
Oh i saw that one once in an anti-smoking ad, it’s prolly the first memory of childhood trauma and one of the reasons I don’t smoke
The trafficking one is terrifying to me, just knowing there are people out there who are going through that, that were leading normal lives with hopes and dreams, and all of a sudden now they are resigned to that fate, and their family thinks they're dead but little do they know their loved one is alive out there, but going through absolute hell. It's such an uncomfortable PSA and so damn scary to me.
Sunday Lunch fucked me up. I think it's that horrifying moment of silence and shock after the gun goes off and then the visceral reactions of the family that broke me.
I had to skip it because of how triggering it was for me.
I know you muted the song for copyright, but somehow, that makes the no excuses PSA even more powerful and disturbing...
Yeah I tried to keep the audio in the PSA (even by trying to edit it) but it still didn't work so yeah I had to mute it
the first time i saw this psa, the audio was distorted for copyright reasons and it really added to the disturbing factor, it reminds me of that

I know I’m late, but I will say that the NSPCC commercial ‘don’t look’ is relating to the abuse is a bit accurate as when my mom used to hit me and always tells me that she’s no child of hers and would always shout at me and saying ‘shut up’ or cuss words in front of me, and worse, when I got bad grades, she would hit me in a corner of my bedroom… But until when I got older, she stopped abusing me, because after she knew that the teachers were afraid of my bruises and this was how she was enough of hitting me in my arms and legs…
That is horrible, honestly not enough is done about child abuse.
You must be pretty brave lol most psas freak me out, even the classic "scared hurt animals in front of the camera" 💀😭
It's mainly just that I have watched way too many PSAs and have talked about them way too many times haha
I forget which vid it was, but the first time I saw the "Can't Look" PSA was in someone else's vid going over many disturbing PSAs and then showing them in full. This particular PSA stuck with me so much I had to take a break from the video. Like you said, we don't see anything, yet you completely grasp what's happening. It's a very uncomfortable watch, and as it intended, you can't bear to look.
What's interesting is I think there's two variations of this PSA, as the one I watched from the other vid was slightly different than the one you showed; the part with the magazine on the bed, you don't hear the man. You instead hear a girl's voice quietly pleading "daddy, stop" (I can't even decide which is more unnerving). Regardless, "Can't Look" is without a doubt a top tier scary PSA.

The distress call one made me sick to my stomach and gave me the chills. I never knew an actual 911 audio call could bring someone’s attention just by them hearing how disturbing it is and knowing what’s going on. I’ve seen many scarier psas before but this one just scares the living shit out of me.
Number 18 is giving me flashbacks to that recent event with the two cousins in the bathroom and the gun accidentally went off. The sounds of pain were almost EXACT. Those actors, just wow.
Honestly I wish there were more psas about people getting sa’d or raped by women. I was sa’d by another girl and felt really scared to tell people as if they’d only take me seriously if it was a man instead. If we had more psas like that more victims would be comfortable coming forward and the stigma would eventually die out. That’s why I like the tentacle psa, not only is it ambiguous to the gender of the criminal but also shows the feeling of being violated very well.
Yeah there should be just more pass about that where it shows that it doesn't matter what gender it is, it still happens
The PSA about Multiple Sclerosis really hit me hard.
Never seen the "Distress call" one and hoo boy that title is accurate hearing that girls screams shook me a bit

oof. That cartoon one, I saw at a early age, and I was like originally “wow that sucks” but rewatching it now that I’m older….it’s just so triggering for some reason :(
In my opinion about “only jerks mess with fireworks” it’s kinda disturbing including the Trafficking one from Helen barber but the most scary one that I like is excuses one cause it tells the story of how children gets Abüśèd and the ventriloquist one and all your videos help me with lots of psa reserch lately and as someone who’s autistic i love enjoying the videos (no I don’t support that company)
There's one PSA i know from CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) from 2022 which shows videos of people, with the end text saying, "These were the last videos of people who took their own lives."
This goes to show about mental health and CALM did a very good job of delivering that message of mental health
Dude the rape and terrified children deserved to be way high at the very top, that shit is way scarier than anything else.
Fair enough, the video is my personal opinion though and I definitely explained why each entry is at the number they are at
zach, have you ever took at look at these two south american or meso american PSAs against animal cruelty/animal abuse, one of them is called hunters and i forget what the other one is called. i found them in night sky's video on scariest animal psas. generally i'm not squeamish or easily disgusted, but the hunters psa genuinely got under my skin

@@Zach.R they're those types of PSAs that gets seared into your memory, personally I'd put them in the same category of disturbing as entries 1, 2, and 3 from this list
@@yaboimccoy8109 If I’m thinking of what you might’ve been referring to with that other PSA, that’s the one with a shot of a dog getting euthanized, right? That one’s called Dog, and yeah, it is pretty messed up.
@@thomascabral9800 it has dubbed over audio of an 8-10 year old boy begging his parents for a dog and that he'll take good care of it and be the best owner possible while the visuals are of stray dogs - i wouldn't doubt it if it ended with a visual of a dog being euthanized considering other anti animal abuse PSAs having a bleak and gut wrenching ending (e.g. how much is that doggy in the window, yard/alley/that one british aspca PSA with the black labrador pacing in a decrepit alley with a british woman doing a voice over for the dog)

a suggestion ive had for a while is a top 10/20 twist psas, like ranking how unexpected the twists were, how effective or laughable they are, i feel like itll be good because it may give you another excuse to rip on the shame on you psa

6:40 there are at least a couple that use the f word. If I remember right, there's this Canadian PSA in which a man gets violent with a waitress in which he says 'fuck' a couple of times
I remember a PSA, where a bunch of videos with babies getting injured in a comedic way
Only afterwards to tell you what happened to them and how it affected their life

I remember seeing the Everybody Knows PSA as a kid... a six year old kid. And that's why I don't smoke.
Yet another banger list! This one's way more disturbing than the last one. Not much fazes me, but Baby Monitor gave me a visceral reaction that no other PSA has evoked. That would be my #1 choice.
The ChildLine 'Masks' PSA still gives me goosebumps.

Aussies got their PSA's down. All the ones I've seen from AUS have always been hard hitting and capture what they were going for very well.
Usually PSAs make me laugh. I have a messed up sense of humour. But I can never sit through child or animal abuse PSAs. I just cannot stomach child and animal abuse. Children and animals are innocent and can't defend themselves.

@@jadeeliss1370 yeah I get that but there are other sa entries later on. Sure the subject matter of sa is more disturbing but it's more about how disturbing they show the thing they are talking about in the PSA and how effective it is

@@jadeeliss1370 that really sucks that it's because of trauma but I do get it, some people are affected more by a certain type of PSAs. A good example (and I think I say it in the video) is about child abuse in general

Number 19 actually showed a few different PSAs such as ‘Mouth Cancer’ (dunno the company) and ‘’Anthony Hicks’ which is surprising cus I thought you would need some sort of authorisation to use other PSAs in your PSA.
Yeah the Anthony Hicks one is from NHS but I assume that Quitline got the rights to use it? well I would hope so at least
@@Zach.R I have no idea. Anthony did the PSA with the nhs,same with the radio version,but idk if quitline spoke to them or anything.
The drugs psas really hit hard I grew up around that and I still haven't recovered I remember during my teenage years I wasn't doing anything remarkable because I was stuck being depressed and scared I lost 4 years of my teenage years to drugs and I didn't even take them my therapist thinks i have ptsd. Seeing the herion is living hell one really made my stomach turn I couldn't have said it better myself
Alot of these PSAs really hit close to home for me, like the Distress Call, Ventriloquist, and Tentacle ones because of the abuse I faced when I was really young, it only stopped when the man die. These PSAs really get to me, but I'm glad they're out there so people can see and be aware and try to help other young people like me so we don't have to be victims anymore.

all jokes aside, great video! i loved seeing how your list changed, and i completely agree for most of the list. while a lot of shock value PSAs tend to lose their disturbing-ness after a while to the point where i don't find them all that, you know, *shocking* (mostly smoking PSAs), i'm always disturbed and on the verge of tears just hearing the ones about child abuse, no matter how many times i see them. i remember watching PSA compilations on UA-cam years ago, probably back when I was in middle school, and even despite not remembering the majority of ones I saw, Tentacle has always stuck with me. It arguably got more disturbing with time, because I couldn't comprehend what was happening when I was younger, but being older and recognizing what it's about makes it even sadder to watch. ironically, i genuinely can't watch Can't Look, and I can barely get through just listening to it. the audio is horrifying, but that mixed with the visuals absolutely breaks me.
(sorry for the long comment!!! i can't really talk about these anywhere outside of the internet without getting weird looks lol)

There is also a couple others for weed the teens are flat and lounge around and two buddies are at a drive thru and they forget what they want and he stepped on the gas and hit a little girl on a bike, it's nuts but my question is why is a 6year old riding a bike in that close to the road to begin with also where are her parents lol

For me everybody's doing it is better but I still like the cleaning girl PSA.
But as the shirt goes I used to have a merch store where I sold that design that I got commissioned based on the pusher from hip choice as well as a few other designs.
Also tell me about it, copyright claims are a pain and it's hard to get out of copyright claims when it comes to music. It really does take away from the PSAs not being able to let the music play
