Honestly the Evan PSA is a bit frustrating because it almost punishes the Audience for focusing on the character the PSA is named after, and constantly focusing on him instead. And even if you did focus on the real perpetrator it just doesn't make sense because his posts and gestures happen so fast that makes it seem like ANYONE who gets picked on or seems antisocial is automatically suspicious of committing such a horrible act
Exactly! To me that could very easily send the message that anti-social or bullied kids are dangerous and more prone to doing this kind of thing therefore leading them to be more isolated than they already are which feeds into the cycle that causes tragedies like this in the first place
right what’s not surprising is that just because I was the quiet kid and the bullied kid someone actually made up rumors about me accusing me of wanting to do what was in that psa but at a party I was gonna go to which I never did or plan to and I was bullied relentlessly because of it and rumors were spread about me nonstop but luckily everything stopped since the girls were gone and it made me feel so upset that someone would think that I would do such a thing just because I don’t have many friends and I have social anxiety because of the severe bullying i faced unfortunately Edit: some mistakes and i forgot to mention i worked so hard not to be a quiet kid to fit into the steryotype and the plan never worked
As an American zoomer, I assure you that, in general, we *hate* Evan. Not just the times when it was like "Look! he's sitting alone! How scary!!!" But also, if you teach a bunch of high schoolers (and yes, we *did* watch this in school) to put the label "looks like a school shooter" on someone, do you think those same kids going to report it when they see the signs, or try to get that person help? NO! They're just going to bully them MORE
Overrated psas are good but once you seen them it's boring it's like you gotta find the more darker ones to get a scare or feel disturbed And the monsters one is kinda scary kudos on who ever did the makeups or costumes in it

I agree with Monster being "a newbies scariest psa" it was one of the first i saw when i was a kid and it terrified me, now it barely even gets a reaction I generally dont find most sandy hook psas believable, the new school supplies one was really good but the test of them just dont feel real to me in the same way that one does
I remember when i first really got into the international psa rabbit hole there was a long period where i'd skim through compilations and skip over anyone that used monster's in the thumbnail because i absolutely hated that damn rabbit costume but i got over it and it kind of helps that if you pay attention to the scene right before the reveal, and right after you'll notice there's an error with the rabbit costume where they didn't put the fur glove on both hands so it kind of breaks the illusion

With Amok 2 it was beyond offensive. Using a real tragedy that happened 1 year before the PSA was made is downright disgusting. That would be like SWR coming out with a PSA today using footage from the Parkland school shooting. Also, why would SWR use a variant of Playstation Europe's slogan of "Do Not Underestimate The Power Of Playstation"? Were SWR trying to kill Playstation by proxy?
The Peewee Herman PSA never creeped me out because I used to LOVE him when I was a kiddo. I used to watch all his movies and TV shows. Anything with him in it lol. Then I found out the reason he had to make the PSA 😩
I kinda like Scavengers, tbh. Something about it being old honestly just makes it creepier to me. Shame on you sucks as a PSA, but I do like "You can never control the consequences" as a tagline. Good video.
Hope to see an underrated PSA vid. Also I’ve been trying to find a PSA for a while now. It’s a man and a little girl on a game show and the girl fails one question. The man gets multiple questions right, filling up a red wheel that looks like one of those hypnotizing circles. He wins and then the announcer welcomes him back next week. A billboard then drops. The name of the show? Pedophiles are Smarter than Children. Shocked me the 1st time I saw it on my Twitter timeline. Cannot find it since.
Also I feel like someone's crazy Christian dad made the Amok PSA because he doesn't like the "youth of today" playing violent video games. I don't mean to "um actually" this situation but for whatever reason I was invested in the Columbine case when I was in highschool and was always watching documentaries and videos about it. It was so much more than just the video games and music. I remember they tried to cancel Marilyn Manson and Rammstein for the massacre because they just so happened to like their music. I know a bunch of people (myself included) who love Rammstein and haven't done anything violent. My boyfriend himself plays a lot of "violent video games" and happens to own firearms himself. He's very diligent with locking them up and keeping them unarmed as he knows I'm pretty intimidated being near them. He's very smart and knows what he's doing. If the case was true, my boyfriend wouldn't be here right now. I think it's pretty distasteful showing clips of the massacre with real grieving people just to get some point across for a problem that doesn't even exist. My little brother was obsessed with GTA and he's currently got a baby on the way and a fiance. No harmful bone in his body. Just an overall good kiddo. I remember watching a clip of Adam Ruins Everything that pretty much debunks this myth.
I feel like the main reason why the Evan psa rubs me the wrong way is because my year 10/11 gcse drama teacher decided to make up devise a drama performance based on that psa and she had cast me, an emo trans guy who got severely bullied throughout secondary school, as the shooter, which looking back at it is really fricked up. To make matters worse, a year after, I found out that she decided to use the same concept for another group of year 10s/11s using, and I kid you not, pumped up kicks.... Just.....what the frick....???
Here's my opinions on these PSAs (all of these have good messages i don't condem them for that it's just how it's executed or feel about them) Shame on You: I agree, the crash doesn't really feel real tbh, like the children don't have a reaction along with the teachers. Plus the psa blaming us is funny Photograph: I find the teen's face at the beginning disturbing for some reason, it's a good idea for a psa even though the liquid tool kinda makes it eh Monsters: Nice execution of a psa, kinsa scares me Pee-Wee: "THIS IS CRACK" (sorry i couldn't resist) This psa is too funny, though the story is a bit interesting. How do people find this disturbing Scavangers: I semi-disagree. It's mostly because of the flies because I hate them Shoeboxes: Sadly Disagree, I feel bad for most of the people in this psa and how they're mostly dead. Sunday Lunch: I don't really know what to say about this one tbh other than the guy vomiting. Also why would you shoot your own son? I'm also in the middle as well. Top Chef: They should've had a no slip sign to prevent the accident. This psa is okay Evan: I do think Point of View is better. Though, evan has a good message. SWR: Yeah, Amok is fucking offensive as shit. Like I play videogames and I've never thought of shooting someone. Your Brain on Drugs: I understand your opinion. Though I just find this psa funny. Nice Video btw! Good job!
About "Sunday Lunch": it's hard to tell from the accents and jargon, but the teens are talking about gun/gang violence. One of them says "Anton flopped the shot" i.e. "Anton" missed when shooting at someone, and just before the mother shoots you hear "I stay indoors _while the beef stays outside_". The ending tagline wraps it up - the mother knew what was happening and kept quiet. So it's like she shot the kid herself.
Nice video. A couple that I really agree with, particularly ‘Monsters’. I think a lot of people who rate that as the scariest are stuck in the time it came out (or it’s their first time watching PSAs like you said), as I remember back when it first came out it was considered the scariest PSA ever. I’m surprised you mentioned the SWR in this list, as I haven’t seen anyone who rates them, as they mostly think the issues are made too serious or it’s trivialising the Columbine Massacre claiming that it was majorly caused by violent video games. Overall a very enjoyable video and whilst I disagree with a few of your opinions (Shoeboxes for instance), I see where you are coming from.
-Shame On You - Very hysterical PSA. It's so over the top with it's message, I remember one of my friends getting mad at me for finding that PSA funny. Obviously the message is upsetting but the execution is so over the top and how it tries too hard to be emotional. -Photograph - I do like this one but near the end it gets over the top. It would have been more effective if they got rid of the over the top scary face (that's look like the cover of an Iron Maiden album) agree ending ruins it. Faces did a better job with showing drug addiction because it was subtle and not over the top Monsters - I only considered that one scary because other people did but as you mentioned it's a newbie PSA and it doesn't really show how the parents change through alcohol. I remember seeing a ranking of the Top 50 Scariest PSA's and this was number 1 but some of the others on the list were way scarier. I don't hate this PSA and it's a good introduction to PSA's but I just don't think it's as scary as others make it out to be. The kid's acting at the ends acting is pretty good and I love some of the monster designs especially the creepy rabbit I used it as an inspiration for one of my character designs. Pee-Wee Herman - Yeah agree this PSA is on part with the Micheal Jordan one. How is it even scary? Scavengers - I do actually find that one disturbing ngl but can see where you are coming from. Shoeboxes - Agree Sunday Lunch - I am just going to say it took me awhile to figure out what the message of the PSA was because the execution was so confusing. Acting is good but yeah agree it's overrated. Top Chef - Honestly that one just scares me because being burned alive is one of my biggest fears but agree slip is over the top. Evan - I think it's because I saw the meme version of it first that I can't take it seriously. They have better PSA's it's also the stereotyping that annoys me. Plus on social media if there was a picture of a kid pointing a gun it would be removed immediately. Point of View did the signs thing better. SWR - I hate people who think that video games, movies, music etc cause violence so their PSA's are already piss me off. The fact they used a real life tragedy is extremely fucked up too This Is Your Brain - Yeah what is great about that PSA? Nothing to it, the one with Racheal Leigh Cook was more effective
I have a personal vendetta against watch mojo, so I'm glad you're dissing them. Basically I was watching a video back when I was neutral to them and watched anything that looked interesting, and out of no where with no warning they showed footage of someone beheading a snake for food. A live snake!!! Like what the hell! I know it's not a puppy but I like snakes and don't wanna see something be killed on screen!!! Why????!
The thumbnail says it all! Knew this was gonna be good when I saw it. Also love your Patreon ad in this, got a good giggle, S tier patreon "PSA". Shame On You really upset me the first few times I saw it.. and then I realized as a PSA, it really kinda sucked because what I remembered was kids being flattened by a rolling stunt car instead of "Drive slower". It's pure shock value without the follow through. People are scared of the Pee Wee one? Even as a kid, that was hilarious to me. Now the snakeman.. LOL okay that scared me as a kid.
I used to be scared of the Skeletons PSA as a kid 😂 it's the old school one where they were in the car and as soon as he turned it on they all turned into skeletons. I think the part that creeped me out the most was the skeleton hand shaking hands with someone at the end with the tagline "Friends don't let friends drive drunk".
I agree with most of the list, even though I admittedly like some of them. Say what you will about Top Chef, the actress's screams stuck with me for a while after seeing it. It makes me make sure to clean up water on the floor in the kitchen to this day LOL Also seconding the comment about underrated PSAs! edit: oh my god the SWR ones are so bad. how disrespectful do you have to be???
Monsters: wouldnt work on because that Rabbit one just looks what would be a Kids TV chracter in 70s to early 90s anyway. They was plenty of weird ugly looking ones with strange voices.
The nostalgia critic made a good point about that pee wee psa years ago when he watched a bunch of psas, saying why didnt he just do it as himself? And it’s hard to take him seriously when he’s talking in the peewee voice. Even if you think kids aren’t gonna know who Paul is just have him introduce himself like “hi you might not know me but I play peewee-“ and go from there, kids aren’t stupid :/
I think the Pee Wee Herman crack PSA has to do with the age of the viewer. Think of the age of AVGN,Nostalgia Critic and the Watch Mojo lady it seems to only affect people of a certain age. That PSA is a real life creepypasta. SWR gun PIF didn't even need to exist. Let's say that Martin Peyerl's rampage was due to him being a gamer he lived in Germany and SWR is a German company,at best it's scaremongering to make a PIF demonizing gamers on the actions of a single gamer.
This will probably upset some people, but I feel like Photograph is a "beginner's" scary PIF. I used to be unable to watch it at all......and now it barely gets a reaction out of me. Plus, I expected it to be worse, as when I heard people say the the face "melts", I imagined it being Raiders of the Lost Ark style, not the fairly silly melting effects that were actually used. I will probably get hate for this, but I think Faces is pretty overrated. It's still creepy, yes, but it is far from being the creepiest thing ever. The "decomposing" effects might as well not be there, as when people told me the face did that, I imagined something much worse. I feel like one Metropolitan Police PIF did this concept better. And the variant is actually worse in my opinion, as the music feels less creepy there and the removal of the morgue sheet makes it cheesy, as that was the best part of the original. I agree that basically all SWR PSAs are bad. Their "Nightmare" one is not so bad admittedly, and I like their "Dogs" PSA, but that's more because it is cute and less about it actually being effective or what not.
11: Absolutely expected, honestly only newbies to the PSA community actually find this disturbing. 10: It's disturbing, but yes, the liquefy effect is dated as all hell. Otherwise a pretty solid PSA. 9: Glad I'm not the only one who thinks that this one just tries way too fucking hard. The stock horror sounds make it impossible for me to take this one seriously. 8: Another PSA that tries way too hard. I much prefer the Clint Eastwood version of this PSA. 7: Honestly, this PSA was more shocking than it was effective. The message was lost on me because I was too busy throwing up the first time I saw it. 6: It's horrifying and effective, but honestly not deserving of the top spots it gets in PSA community. 5: Love this PSA, but it's more than extreme in its message. Another PSA that, while effective, is more shocking than anything. 4: It's one of my favorite PSAs, and it's iconic, but I do see why you can't take it seriously. It is quite exaggerated, but not as much as that Shop Girl PSA from the same campaign. 3: Yeah, this is definitely their most overrated PSA. Sandy Hook Promise has made far more effective PSAs than this one. 2: These all suck, and almost everyone knows it. But Amok isn't just terrible, it's infuriating. 1: The most entry level PSA, I couldn't agree more. I've seen so many parodies that it's not even funny.
When you say these PSA's aren't scary it is necessary to understand the setting they were watched in. Unexpected and on TV, watched just once so memories of them were added onto with imagination, some watched as very young kids
I honestly only had Smokey Bear and Say No To Drugs PSAs as a kid so never saw any of these (though I knew This Is Your Brain from when I had a little Freddy Krueger phase, despite not being a fan of horror movies - in fact, I'm a coward who prefers to write their own horror so the fear is controlled). I do remember other anti-smoking commercials though, but none of these The school shooting ones honestly did hit me as someone whose curiosity got the best of herself and went down the rabbit hole after Uvalde happneed. I didn't know about Columbine (and was actaully around 8 or so when it happened, so was completely clueless); I got immensely scared of them happening where I was, and not really just in a school - anywhere, like a store or just in public, despite living in a smaller area in the state. I agree, it's not gonna be about the games or TV violence. Some could be, but in reality, it's more due to a twisted mind and/or that "need to get attention". My PSAs? If your child is already harming small animals, like baby birds, get them help STAT. That's most likely gonna become a lot worse later on; It seems like most mass murderers start off with animals, then turn to people. And news channels? DON'T MENTION NAMES OR NUMBERS OF PEOPLE HARMED OR KILLED IN THESE SITUATIONS!! This just brings in more "motivation" for potential future shooters! I swear they see this as almost a competition, so when they hear 20 have been shot, they aim for more. Don't show photos of the criminal/s either!
I think what makes Monsters not work for me is that the type of "monsters" the kids see their parents as isn't really consistent design-wise, which makes it feel kind of disjointed? We have the hideous rabbit-like monster, but then we just have...a witch in a black cloak? A zombie? A clown? PRISON SANTA? Michael Myers? We've got one that really feels like a monster and the rest are scary but still fairly humanoid, and it just doesn't feel cohesive. Scavengers is one that always gets to me somehow, though. Somehow even if I'm just "listening" to it, the music and background noise make me nauseous.
And now my opinions: Shame on you: just hilarious, especially since none of the teachers appear to care that a whole class of children got crushed right before them. Photograph: I don't care if it's overrated, GET THAT FRICKIN MONSTER AWAY FROM ME ASAP! (totally respect your take, though) Amok: what... The frick... Were these people thinking? Monsters: I used to see this on tv during breaks on Jeopardy and Wheel. Didn't find it scary then, don't find it scary now. The others I'll have to have a moment before commenting on.
Peewee Herman: I can't imagine Peewee himself NOT being on drugs, which just makes the PSA ironically hilarious. The sound effects are pretty creepy, though.
I think my problem is that most of these PSAs are actually quite disturbing, like Scavengers. The problem, they've been talked to death by the PSA community to the point where they're just not effective anymore.
Yeah that is a valid point, personally I never found PSAs like scavengers scary but the fact that everyone talks about them definitely plays a part into PSAs like that one being overrated
I saw that this was a PSA video and I couldn't not watch! I'm glad to see PSAs like Scavengers and Shoeboxes on here, and especially Monsters. SWR is definitely a very bad PSA company, but I actually like the Lullaby PSA they did. It doesn't deliver a good message (like ALL of their PSAs) but I think its cool to watch. Great video!
I always thought Evan was a lame psa even when I was edge lord 13 year old lol (I’ve been into psas for a while now since I was like 9) Edit: as an ex columbiner everybody and their fucking mom in the community joked about the swr psa. disrespectful.
HOLY SHIT I WAS TOO. I was 16 when I got entangled into the "fandom". I still have the damn shirts in my room somewhere. At the time my family basically didn't give a damn about me and I got influenced on Google+. I lost so many friends over it because I refused to get out of my bubble. I'm going to therapy to talk about it. I'm 22 now and I still think about it. It was such a dark time in my life
@@sceneshootergirl88 gonna be real, I think I'm back on my BS. This was 7 years ago and I still get videos in my feed and I'm still over here watching them.
Yeah Cartoon is slightly overrated. I think it's just more the fact that kids would see cartoon violence on tv so NSPCC decided to portray real abuse as if it was a cartoon but to reveal that no this is actually happening. They do have better PSAs though I will say that
The Fragile childhood one i honestly find funny rather than scary, like why is that parent a big ugly rabbit? And a scary Santa and a Clown? (Obvs the grim reaper snd robber and zombie mum are sort of scary but lol a rabbit and Santa). The costume ideas just seemed kind of silly to me and i agree about the message being weak. (Also the scavengers one i just find gross not scary).
Dark and Lonely Water I think is one of the more overrated ones and I think is a "Newbies Scariest PSA lists" along with the Smokey Bear Joana Cassidy one.
Honestly, nightvision has never been scary to me and its one of fire kills worst ones. I don't think it's scary and some people think it's number one but I can't see it.
Only ones I disagree with here are Shoeboxes and Top Chef. I’ve seen the aftermath of intense oil burns and it is not pretty, and I find shoeboxes effective because of the footage it used.
A overrated psa for me would be some of the TAC psas. I feel like the majority of them are just pure shock value, and while they have some good psas, they are far from perfect. 10:40 also there are people who LIKE SWR psas?
finally someone says photograph is overrated!! i don’t think it’s necessarily bad, but i’ve seen so many countdowns call it the scariest psa ever made. please be serious for a second 😭😭

Thank you heaps and yeah I know some of them people won't agree on
-Shame On You - Very hysterical PSA.
Faces did a better job with showing drug addiction because it was subtle and not over the top
Monsters - I only considered that one scary because other people did but as you mentioned it's a newbie PSA and it doesn't really show how the parents change through alcohol.
Shoeboxes - Agree
Sunday Lunch - I am just going to say it took me awhile to figure out what the message of the PSA was because the execution was so confusing.
The fact they used a real life tragedy is extremely fucked up too
This Is Your Brain - Yeah what is great about that PSA?
Thank you lots!
@@Kakmanmartinez666 Man they were really trying to traumatize us as kids with these 🤣
I agree with most of the list, even though I admittedly like some of them.
And screw top chef to me its scary because i used to work in fast food and i have seen people get burned
PSA enlightenes me every time and i thank God for making me an ordinary human with high morals.. 😢
Monsters: wouldnt work on because that Rabbit one just looks what would be a Kids TV chracter in 70s to early 90s anyway. They was plenty of weird ugly looking ones with strange voices.
most people deadass are most likely scared of scavengers for the gore...other than that its kinda mid
Honestly, back when I was scared of Scavengers, it wasn't the gore, it was the soundtrack ad screeching noise that did it for me
@@ultimateninetales2274 Same, for some reason the soundtrack made me nauseous.
16:36 I think the "suck" here should be MUCH louder XD
12:01 is the most overrated psa in my opinion, thank god someone also thinks its overrated
All PSAs are over rated, Let people make horrible mistakes!
Definitely 😂
then they’ll learn hahahahhahahahahahaha
Bad driving has killed one classroom full but in America guns are kill 10 classrooms combined at this point.
Most overrated psas are ones we have seen one million times
Agreed!
That 'sponsored' segment is absolutely cracking me up 😂
(...Pun intended)
Edit: *S U C C*
Hot takes: PETA is LYNX's PSA successor.
(Actually even worse)
On a very basic standpoint yes but LYNX is still much better than PETA without a doubt
I have not heard this many succs since highschool
Thanks for a new video, Zach. I really want to see a saddest PSAs video in the near future ❤🇵🇷
Would like one too.
omggg i never liked scavengers and everyone would always praise it!!
When you say these PSA's aren't scary it is necessary to understand the setting they were watched in. Unexpected and on TV, watched just once so memories of them were added onto with imagination, some watched as very young kids
I know and I understand that because I grew up seeing PSAs and even trying to view them like that they are bad
TOP CHEF IS GONNA BE ON HERE I SWEAR TO GOD-
I honestly only had Smokey Bear and Say No To Drugs PSAs as a kid so never saw any of these (though I knew This Is Your Brain from when I had a little Freddy Krueger phase, despite not being a fan of horror movies - in fact, I'm a coward who prefers to write their own horror so the fear is controlled). I do remember other anti-smoking commercials though, but none of these
The school shooting ones honestly did hit me as someone whose curiosity got the best of herself and went down the rabbit hole after Uvalde happneed.
Every time I watch your brain on drugs I don’t think about not doing drugs, I just get hungry for eggs
And now my opinions:
Shame on you: just hilarious, especially since none of the teachers appear to care that a whole class of children got crushed right before them.
Photograph: I don't care if it's overrated, GET THAT FRICKIN MONSTER AWAY FROM ME ASAP! (totally respect your take, though)
Amok: what...
Bloody brilliant riff on the Peewee Herman PSA.
The work place one about the chef scares me. I'm a chef myself. And honestly even in nonslip shoes you can still slip in grease.
Had to check my phone at 1:06, I use that for my text tone
Uploading a video is the exact thing Zach would do
it’s the video of all time
Cranking out bangers, huh dude?? Nice!
Thank you! :)
I always thought Evan was a lame psa even when I was edge lord 13 year old lol (I’ve been into psas for a while now since I was like 9)
Edit: as an ex columbiner everybody and their fucking mom in the community joked about the swr psa. disrespectful.
It was such a dark time in my life
@@Kakmanmartinez666 lol I was 13 and I got into the columbiner clique. I’m 15 and struggling to get out of it. 😭
@@sceneshootergirl88 gonna be real, I think I'm back on my BS. This was 7 years ago and I still get videos in my feed and I'm still over here watching them.
@@Kakmanmartinez666 yeah I don’t think you ever truely leave a fandom liek that
9:34 emotional manipulation, you gotta love it 😒
Photograph doesn't work because the before picture is already creepy.
For me it’s cartoon boy why not make the whole psa a cartoon and portray it realistically?
Yeah Cartoon is slightly overrated. I think it's just more the fact that kids would see cartoon violence on tv so NSPCC decided to portray real abuse as if it was a cartoon but to reveal that no this is actually happening. They do have better PSAs though I will say that
While this video is good, it didn’t start with you spinning around with a funky bass in the background, so it’s a 6/10.
Haha unfortunately it didn't start like that because this video was made before that one 😅
Hey, hold up, not to brag, but you forgot some other PSAs that were overrated.
I like Shame on You just because it's unintentionally hilarious.
reminder:
overrated ≠ bad
underrated ≠ good
I know that.
ok?
Dark and Lonely Water I think is one of the more overrated ones and I think is a "Newbies Scariest PSA lists" along with the Smokey Bear Joana Cassidy one.
Honestly, nightvision has never been scary to me and its one of fire kills worst ones. I don't think it's scary and some people think it's number one but I can't see it.
It definitely ain't #1 but personally I do think it's a solid PSA
My favorite part 0:22
This video should get more views should it?
Well I can hope that it does like all of my videos but we will wait and see 👀
Only ones I disagree with here are Shoeboxes and Top Chef. I’ve seen the aftermath of intense oil burns and it is not pretty, and I find shoeboxes effective because of the footage it used.
7:00 Pretty sure he was joking but I could be wrong
Yeah maybe
A overrated psa for me would be some of the TAC psas. I feel like the majority of them are just pure shock value, and while they have some good psas, they are far from perfect.
10:40 also there are people who LIKE SWR psas?
I would hard disagree besides from about 4 of their PSAs (which are more recent ones)
finally someone says photograph is overrated!! i don’t think it’s necessarily bad, but i’ve seen so many countdowns call it the scariest psa ever made. please be serious for a second 😭😭
I don't hate the PSA or anything but damn the ending is just goofy as hell and I can't take it seriously. Really cool idea but poor execution imo
9:20 OK I can agree this one is overrated
>Scavengers
>Overrated
Bro....
Yes it definitely is
18:41 looks like a boring video game
