My wife looked like Clare, beautiful. I used to call her my 80's girl. Lynn died of cancer 3 years ago. Miss her like crazy. Looking forward to meeting up again soon.
just love clair grogan .did everyone have eighties hairdos like her, seem to remember seeing them everywhere in those days .THE 80S WERE THE BEST .ONE REASON ALTERERD IMAGES.!
That was a great job to pull off that song live. The studio version was sooooo polished, you could see how nervous Clare was at the intro-vocals, then a sigh when someone off stage gave her a thumbs-up, then a smile came to her face.
thought already wonderful as it is, would've been nice that the whole moment was caught in this video, not just her smile at that moment. the smile /timing you refer to is obvious there at the beginning
I bought this album at a second-hand place back in the late '80's because I found it curious that Tony Visconti produced some of the songs. It was one of the best albums I've ever bought. It's a crying shame They didn't last longer. Hipsway didn't do it, nor did Texas. I hear they are putting something out in August.
How have I missed this! Amazing video of my favourite AI song. Still play the 12" regularly. You can see Clare trying to be all serious and not giggle. Gorgeous.
I'll never understand how the Bite album and this single were not smash hits! This is one of the most beautiful pop songs of the entire 80s it'll always remind me of the hot 1983 summer and yeah of course I fancied Clare as well :-)
WOW. This is such a rare video. I wonder if there is any more footage hidden away for the "Bite" era? Clare is looking drop dead gorgeous here. Stunning beauty! Such a shame they split shortly afterwards. It would also be great if the unreleased album by Clare was released. Waited 20 years so far! Go on ....do it! xx
Does anyone connected with the band know if this was my actual upload shown at 229 GPS tonight? I thought I recognised the visual jitters early on and felt so proud to have been of service! Clare was so genuine and enduringly lovable tonight with her comments, and did the whole album proud! I did miss "So we go whispering" on the intro tape though!
i adore clare grogan i noticed in her happy birthday original video looked she had a scar on the side of her cute face but not very noticable.did she have an accident at the time and was she alright?
Clare accidentally got caught up in a bar fight in Glasgow. Someone slashed her face with a broken bottle causing huge damage to her cheek. The surgeons even back then did a wonderful job to limit scarring
Yes, they did. July 24th 1983 Hammersmith Palais, supported by Roman Holliday, at least. Contrary to advertising The Smiths were not on the bill that night.
Goodness me I used to dress like that . . NO wonder am a crazy man .. They put Capt Jack Sparrow to shame in there get up .. mind you them were the days
Prolly too much for "pop" music when Clare Grogan went all sophisticated in style, looks, and a big sound for the Bite era. Some what prefer the previous era though, don't you? ;-)
She is a great performer, but this song is just a little beyond her as a vocalist. She does not quite carry it off but who cares, I don't, she tried! In fact it adds to the wonderfulness that is Clare Grogan.
Loved the studio album, but this really goes nowhere. It simply doesn't work, it lacks the layering from the studio take. Just the good looks from the band members don't save this performance; sorry Clare :) The up tempo "Don't talk to me about love" was much better suited for live performance. If Sade would have sung her signature song Smooth Operator in the same way, with the same poor instrumental back up, it would have rained tomatoes too.

Three minutes of pure musical perfection. They were such a great band.
So blooming beautiful ❤❤❤
Huge respect for live players. No, bloody playback!
Gosh, I was so besotted with her when I was younger.
Like wise great days a she.s still lovely now...
My brother and I loved her so back in the day.She was so cute and that voice!
What a frigging amazing voice! I'm very pleased to see she survived the electric shock she got just before coming on stage
It was very common in the 80s, i was there. A bit of me still is. Some times it was shocking.
Haashahahaha😂
Chrissy Kachinsky had a much different hairstyle in 83
just love clair grogan .did everyone have eighties hairdos like her, seem to remember seeing them everywhere in those days .THE 80S WERE THE BEST .ONE REASON ALTERERD IMAGES.!
Background vocals here take this to another level.
The studio version has to be one of the best songs ever...pure magic. Perfection!!!
Great performance, and a great vocal, Claire we all loved you...
And still do
Great performance, and easily their most solid album! 🖤
God! This sounds beautiful!
Well that was excellent, Ioved Claire since i watched her skipping around the stage on top of the pops singing happy birthday.❤
That was a great job to pull off that song live. The studio version was sooooo polished, you could see how nervous Clare was at the intro-vocals, then a sigh when someone off stage gave her a thumbs-up, then a smile came to her face.
Lovely to see such a 'real' reaction from a performer. Things are way too slick these days...
thought already wonderful as it is, would've been nice that the whole moment was caught in this video, not just her smile at that moment. the smile /timing you refer to is obvious there at the beginning
VERY underrated song and album..xx

She was fab.

Love her voice! Sounds so 80’s❤

such a lovely voice
repeating sentiments: it's gorgeous! and you watch especially now, it's one take, totally live, and just oozing with personality.
Stephenie powers on backing vocals. Seriously what a group. Love CG forever .
Who's the other backup singer- the guy in very non-New Wave attire...?
Damn I love this song!
Clare was much underated by the general public she had a fantastic voice and the looks to go with it
Still plays live. This is from last year ua-cam.com/video/Vz6QysnIPqA/v-deo.htmlsi=6-Bo0oJwJzoWAGlG
Good Heavens, Miss Clare, you're beautiful!
Bloody hell...takes me back to being 17 again, loved this band.
Claire I was in love with you back in the 80s!
Such a good singer.
new wave, always
Now i know where Gwenn Steffani gets her sound from!
lovely voice x
new wave alive, class of '85
Anyone else think this is a great seaside song? The guitar, small percussion and synth kinda give it that vibe

Woooow, so sexy!!! Beste New Wave Band ever!!!
They never toured behind the “ Bite” album did they?
Yes, they did. July 24th 1983 Hammersmith Palais, supported by Roman Holliday, at least. Contrary to advertising The Smiths were not on the bill that night.
@@davidb8731 wow! Now that is some deep dive information! Thanks!
Why did this band break up? Anyone know?
Katcanski !
Goodness me I used to dress like that . . NO wonder am a crazy man .. They put Capt Jack Sparrow to shame in there get up .. mind you them were the days
i love this fashion, it's got a lot it
people really stereo type 80's fashion with just leg warmers and leotards
Here because of Kristine kochanski
it would have been even better if she had been wearing a miniskirt
Prolly too much for "pop" music when Clare Grogan went all sophisticated in style, looks, and a big sound for the Bite era. Some what prefer the previous era though, don't you? ;-)
Who are those crazy backing singers???...look like rejects from a German Schlager band!!
Did they just grab an office worker off the street to stand in as one of the backing singers?
Moustachio man? Dunno, very strange.
The music might have been good (well, some of it) but the 80's were the pits, one reason, Maggie Thatcher
She is a great performer, but this song is just a little beyond her as a vocalist. She does not quite carry it off but who cares, I don't, she tried! In fact it adds to the wonderfulness that is Clare Grogan.
