I don't know much about the fly ash itself but it never seemed to fly out of the wagons much. It was strange because you would have thought it would. Thanks for the top marks, Justin F.
Thank you for the reply. Peterborough where I live fly ash was in tankers and was flushed out by water and settled in old brick pits, so I wondered how they coped with open wagons. No one had any shots of the unloading and the yellow gantry was for the bin-liner trains. Many thanks for clearing that up. Top Marks as usual.
They used a digger, so it would have grabbed the fly ash out of the MBA wagon and dropped it into a dumper truck next to the train which would have then gone down into the tip next to the transfer station to dump it. You can see one of the diggers they used towards the end of my video at about 15:26 .
Great compilation Video. I still like the 56. Did you see how they emptied the wagons? Tip or drop the sides?. No one seems to have filmed this part of the operation.
the wagons are emptied at Calvert by means of a excavator loading onto truck that go backwards and forwards to the main tip site. very sloppy messy ash, and looked like it gets watered down in some form. hope this helps.
