As a lookout there, it certainly kept me on my toes. When I was up there, we also had the MGR trains going to Didcot Power station as well. Challow was interesting, one end you had the sharp curve and the other, a nice long straight and you could see them coming at you from 2 miles away at 125mph.
Great video Mike, you had plenty of freight there! Nice to see a Colas 66 as well, they don't seem to get around as much these days, only on the odd engineering train.
I was very impress with what I filmed Andrew as it was really my first time there, well I did go there for the GWR HST tour many years ago now it seams. So yes I will go back maybe next year. Thanks Mike.
Yes Jamie my first time there to film freight, I did go there to film the last GWR HST about I think 4 or 5 years ago. Thank you for your comment, regards Mike.
Used to be even better when the Pathfinders charter trains went through after starting at Eastleigh on a lovely day out with a 37 or 66 on the front. Times have changed now though unfortunately.
Wow, that's some busy place to be. Looks like stone has replaced the slack for the power station, lol 🤣. What do they carry in the Appleford tanks? Great video Mike 👍👍👍👍
I believe its household rubbish Robert, I will check Robert, no its flyash but what I filmed is the return working so they are empty. Cheers for watching my enjoyable few hours there, I will return one day. Mike.
Only found out recently that it's fly ash , lorries collect the containers at Appleford, then they take them to a factory near Newbury and make building blocks .
It would have been even busier if Didcot Power Station had still been working. And imagine if the 9Fs had still been running, and a freight class that had never been conceived, a 2-8-2+2-8-2 Beyer Garrett monster, perhaps?
A superb place to film, and a superb video to showcase it. What a blinder Mike, thanks for sharing with us. Keep 'em coming and take care, All the best, Colin.
I can keep videos coming Colin but this video for me was a bit special as it was my first time there filming freight trains. I was planning to go there again this year but Ben has mentioned he want to go there. ?? ATB Mike. ps hope the move goes ok.
Amazing shots and captures there Mike! Lovely engineer 848 and 59s! Some good 70s as well! Great stuff! Top class! No faults at all! Well done! Great work! Fantastic action and variety! Excellent detailing and camera work! A perfect example of why I recommend your excellent channel! Plenty of DB action! Very nice indeed! Loooooooooooooved it! Really enjoyed, thanks for sharing! Take care, have an awesome day and all the best! Jamie
That's good Rodney that we both think the same, I did go there when the last HST ran with GWR, but that was all I filmed so I will certainly give it another go next winter. ATB Mike.
Great video ,lots of freight action !!!! Can i ask what wagons are those that 66 069 is hauling ???. never seen bogie tank wagons with that square " framing " before....
Nice video, good location and a variety of trains. However, spoilt by you playing with transitions and caption styles. Choose one and stick with it, otherwise it looks unprofessional and gimmicky.
Well you are entitled to your thoughts on my video Dave, but you are the first person who has made a comment about the transitions over the last ten years as I get a lot of viewer liking them.
Brilliant Sir, thank you! Could some one tell me how signal folk know a train is straddled across two sets of points stationary please? Especially with no signal on the 1st crossing point!!!
I'm sorry but I have to disagree with you, all that ugly metal and then you wont be able to get a decent shot of the trains. It will come to that section I suppose in time. Thank you for watching my video.
@@antman09ful1 Yes, I guess you’re right. I do find the tangle of wires annoying at my favourite trainspotting location in Camden but then I think that if they weren’t there then 90’s wouldn’t come past. All I meant was that it makes sense to electrify to oxford.
I thought you might be interested in visiting this junction, I've told my viewers I wont go again till next year, so you will have to get me a concession sorted for me Ben.
On my list of places to visit next year
Yes you must give it ago.
The first time I went I walked it from the station.
Cheers for watching and your comment. Mike.
Slow moving freight is fascinating to watch.
Well yes Dave, and it makes the video longer, cheers for watching, Mike.
I used to there in the 70s, before all the houses and the northern link road was built.
I bet you had a good time then JCH.
@@antman09ful1 Double headed 37s were my favourite.
Decent video Mike. A busy junction at the best of times.Well done 🤓
Yes it was Tony, I must give it ago again maybe next year.

Excellent video, beautifully shot and presented.
Thank you very much for your comment mate.
2:46 lovely snaking shot!
Cheers for your interest in this video sir.
Those 70’s sounded decent nice to see a couple of 59’s aswell
Thank you for taking a look.
Thanks for sharing another interesting video Mike .
You are very welcome Clive, pleased you enjoyed it. ATB Mike.
Didcot North Junction is amazing
It was very good.
You are right: it is a Top place👍

I used to be a driver with BR and did many trips with MGR trains to the now demolished didcot power station
Oh right Bob you know this junction very well then, thank you for watching and your comment which is very much appreciated. Regards Mike.
Excellent Mike I would like to see ^E11 at some point it looks interesting
Well mate it runs through Water Orton, thanks for saying what you did about my video. ATB Mike.
Great location Mike . Top videoing as always

I’ve filmed there before for the double 37’s it really is a great location to film from.

Yes I filmed the last tour of the GWR HST there.
My first time there for freight Liam.
Cheers Mike.
@@antman09ful1 looks busy for freight too mate.

@6:00 "You can't park there, Sir".
Nice one Mark, I wonder why he did for them few seconds. ATB Mike.
What's being carried in the tankers from Appleford sidings? Cement?
Empty in this video, but they take flyash to Appleford siding.
Appleford siding is sure busier than I remember it
Well that is good I think Stephen, thanks for watching.

Yes I did get at lot of movements for a short time there.
very rare WIA Wagons at 1:18

Nice vídeooo
Thank you.
No a bad bridge for freight. Bridge at Appleford I found was good to photo freight heading southwards. No so much north.
Yes I did spot that on the day but I ran out of time mate, cheers.

Hello Mark they are used for fly ash, the train was returning empty, thanks for your interest.
Lovely stuff. And, I estimate, more than 200 lorries not on the road
Well yes that could be possible. Thank you.

Oh really, cheers.
Good bit of film ..
Yeah this was a special day for me as I hadn't done much filming at this junction before Richard.
@@antman09ful1 I've been there quite often, I live in Cholsey...

Nice spot and the nice selection of freight made for an interesting video.
Thank you very much Malcolm, I enjoyed a new location for me.
The Blue one Nuclear Waste right under our noses
Sorry don't get your comment.
Several thousand tons passed your camera that day Mike. Interesting location.
Not thought of it like that Bryan, but yes you are right.
I was there for about two and a half hours so It was a good idea I took a flask.
I agree 100 % Love these freight trains especially light blue ones n sounds strange to see guy standing so near train?? Tks
Thanks for watching Brian.

No idea sir, but thank you very much for watching this video which I very much appreciate.
Either track circuits or axle counters.
I think it would be detected by track circuits.
Oh I understand what you mean now Dr, I would say with the track circuits.
Great video, thanks 👍 those rails going round the sidings look in a poor state, no wonder they take it slow !!
Not sure as the units used the line at normal speed Stuart, cheers for watching and your comment. ATB Mike.
Lovely video Mike, looks like a good place to film the busy action
Matthew I really enjoyed my visit to this location.
Interesting footage. Nice place to visit

The North London Line gantries are ok, the GWR one's Ormond are to close together and the gantries are a lot thicker.
