      Got mine in the mail the other day. Love the new form factor over the wired dongle super converter. Work very well. But I hope brook can fix the inconsistent vibration/rumble issues. For example squall's gunblade trigger doesn't vibrate like original controller. Other games have issues too.

    The ps2’s success is really funny because it came along at a time when gamers weren’t the only people buying them. It was over £150 cheaper than a regular DVD player at its time of release. Even my mum had one 😂

    Nice review, I’ve been a fan of Brook products for a while and remember pre-ordering their Neo Geo super converter from Arcade Shock, which was their first retro adapter I believe. I’ll be picking this up for sure despite owning the original PS2/1 super converter, the form factor is much nicer. One tip, I have the Wingman XE, the pink one for PS3/4/5 and you can use it on the PS classic much like you have used the new PS2 adapter with it, it just looks a bit nicer as it plugs directly into the USB port. You still need to set it up in autobleem but it’s a nice alternative.

    I already own the older model that allowed PS3/PS4 controllers and it works nice. While this newer one allows for waaay more controllers, it is useless to me. I would've bought it if it included a memory card, like the Wingman for the Dreamcast did. Having that one work as a VMU allowed me to transfer saves from the internet to my Dreamcast (and finally unlock all the characters for my japanese copy of MVC2). Had this PS2 Wingman included that, I would've gone crazy for it and bought it. But the developers told me it was impossible, because the controller outlet and the memory card outlet were completely separate. Unlike the Dreamcast, which had the VMU attached to the controller. Anyway, I love these adapters...but if you already had the older one and still use PS3/PS4 controllers...then this one is kinda useless. Just my two cents.

    • @Madlittlepixel
      @Madlittlepixel  2 роки тому +2

      I dunno what that has to do with this video as we are not talking about running games off a HDD, but there are suitable ways to run games on the PS2 slim, obviously through USB will work but its bottlenecked with the speed so a lot of people will run games via ethernet instead, some will use a raspberry pi for network sharing. But for sure the PS2 fat is easier with the built in HDD support for launching games via files instead of discs.

    • @takehirolol5962

      I use a mini router that has USB SMB share. A 64 GB thumb drive is inserted on the mini router and a RJ45 network cable to the PS2.
      The games are opened with OPL through SMB share. It works!

    • @bronzin1445
      @bronzin1445 2 роки тому +5

      OPL through an HDD is the way to go. Nearly 300 game library on a single hard drive and you don’t have to deal with the weird quirkiness that comes with emulation since it’s native hardware. The game’s perform almost exactly, if not exactly as they would if you were to run a physical disc. It’s the way I got to play Rule of Rose.
      Edit: You can technically use an SSD but you’d only be using that for the reliability of the drive than anything. A 7200 rpm HDD is already overkill considering the read/write speeds of the PS2 itself

    • @takehirolol5962
      @takehirolol5962 2 роки тому

      @@bronzin1445 Nice and agree with the PS2. Since the PS2 has a lot of workarounds and tricks from the developers, it's a major pain to emulate.
      My CRT broke and it's being repaired right now. There is no way in heck I would invest more than $500 on a Retrotink 5X and HD Retrovision cables...

    • @bronzin1445
      @bronzin1445 2 роки тому

      @@takehirolol5962 The problem with the Ps2 is that is has notoriously bad video signal regardless if you’re using component cables + a scaler. The console HEAVILY relies on interlaced video even if the game supports progressive scan; hence why it always looks like someone smeared Vaseline all over the screen and unfortunately, there’s really no way to resolving this issue, even with a RetroTink 5x. It’s quite sad and pathetic when the SNES gets better video through S-Video.
      The only way to get rid of the “Vaseline blur” is to either have a Backwards compatible PS3 or through emulation. It’s one of those things where you can never really make the console look good, you can only make it look less bad

    • @Madlittlepixel
      @Madlittlepixel  2 роки тому +3

      I didn't notice any issues, obviously some peoples displays will introduce lag and that has nothing to do with the controllers or adapters, but the 2 monitors I tested on I had no issues, one I do have to put into game mode though to ensure latency is at a minimum. Also depending on how you have your consoles output video can have an effect, using cheap scalers etc will add lag.. . Now I havent been able to test every compatible controller... but if issues are found reporting to Brook they usually try to look into those things as quick as possible and get updates. Personally this will be my goto for the PS2, the PS Classic I have other options but it works great on it as well.

    Regarding the Switch, they shouldn't be counting the Lite as it can't be hooked up to a TV. A true home console only hooks up to a TV and not just be portable. I personally don't count the Switch anyway due to it being a hybrid. Which should put it in an entirely different category.

  • @XanYT
    @XanYT 2 роки тому

    Idk. For about the same price you can get a Retro Fighters Defender. Which is a great controller that I would put above a DS4, but below a Xbox One/Series controller. The only reason I would get this is if I really needed the Xbox layout.

    • @T0TALLYAWESOMEGUY

      The Defender is the wrong shape. In their wisdom they thought making a PlayStation controller using a Switch Pro mould was the best way to go. Also I've heard the Defender uses cheaper plastics and the dpad isn't textured. So I'll definitely be using an official PS3/4/5 controller instead.

    • @XanYT
      @XanYT 2 роки тому +1

      @@T0TALLYAWESOMEGUY It's about making a better controller and Dualshocks are inferior when it comes to ergonomics. DS1-3 are god awful. If you care about shape so much, don't be using a DS4 or 5 then. The plastics on mine don't seem cheap and the dpad is as textured as most dpads.

    I’m a GameCube guy but I get why the PS2 won that generation. The PS2 had a DVD player, backwards compatibility for PS1 games and excellent 3rd party support.

    I presume this only pairs to one controller? I'm wondering if the Brook Wingman plus multitap is a better choice for multiplayer vs the Blue Retro adapter, which takes both controller ports and claims 4+ controller wireless linkup. I mostly play one player games but think it's important to know the potential of the accessories. Also, does it support button sensitivity input for the games that need it using a PS3 dualshock?

    I wonder if this adapter can charge the Dualshock3´s battery while playing pressure sensitive compatible games like Gran Turismo 4 or MGS2. The old PS3/4 to PS2 super converter didn´t had that functionality which is kinda annoying when the battery runs out. It is possible to resume playing in wired mode but the battery doesn't start charging. For other games I use an 8bitDo SN30 pro plus with 2 AA batteries so no problem. If this new adapter can charge the DualShock3´s battery then it´s an instant purchase for me.

    Are you able to do some test with the PS1 console? It seems Brooks put out a tweet that you may need to use a USB cable to juice up the adapter more for the PS1. I have tested using a dual shock 4 and seem to get chaotic rumble/vibration. I am going to test a dualshock 3, and the dualshock 5 as well. But would love to see your take on this. I am using the xstation and the memorycard pro with this adapter and rumble seems to get stuck when using it

    @MLP, Side tracked question, near the end the demo of you playing sfa3 in psc, do you know why the screen is off center? It happen the same when I am doing it. You can notice the off center by seeing the right side getting chopped off slightly. The left side you see some space before you see the character icon, but on the right the icon is sticking close to the right side. Do you know why it is like that? Is that only happening in emulation or it happens in original os also?
