- My Sony PlayStation 3 Slim hasn't had much use in recent years, so let's Jailbreak it with a Custom Firmware (CFW). With a 4.90 CFW we can not only play homebrew games and emulators but with a back manager like Multiman we can preserve our entire library of PS3, PS2 and PS1 games on the internal hard drive or via external USB devices. In this video I show off how to Jailbreak a PS3 Slim and how to preserve your library of PlayStation 1, 2 and 3 games. Please Enjoy !

#PS3 #jailbreak - Ігри
I spent a whole summer playing around with my PS3 after jailbreaking it, definitely one of the best systems out there to softmod 🔥🔥
That's how I feel just with a PS Vita. :)
Definitely! I did this when Modern Warfare was out and I was a nice Mod too so I would drop everyone max rank with every gun and do moon jump lobbies! Shit was cash!👌
Wii U too because of the tablet as a touch remote.
this about to be me just bought a modded PS2 with it's entire library I missed out on a lot of games mainly because I was kid
for me, 3ds. ive been messing around with porting shit and its fun
Really appreciate the shout! You touched up on it in the video, but definitely recommend giving PS3HEN a spin when you can. CFW will still be the better option, but PS3HEN is pretty simple to install and has the major benefit of working on every single PS3 model. It isn't perfect mind you, but it accomplishes what I would say 90% of CFW users are looking for.
Can you point me in the right direction to get it for my 30XXA slim model? I'd love to see a video of yours on how to install it if there is one
used your vid to help with PS3 Hen freezing. Also upgraded the hard drive from 320gb to 500gb. Thanks man!
I steer away from it because of the rap files! Also the Cmos battery if It dies it needs To be connected to Online to use back the games on hen, where cfw Doesn't.
BRO ur an Absolute Legend
MrMario, your the man, I have been using your guides for many things, very detailed and easy to follow guides. Much appreciate it!
I Jailbroke my PS3 last year and found the process very easy. But I use it mainly to watch region-locked DVDs and BluRays, which is an amazing feature of the jailbreak a lot of people don't talk about :D
Do you have any idea whether the jailbreak disables the DVD/BD anti-piracy system when using RGB connection? The image of the DVD/BD is permanently green on a normal PS3 and even PS2, because there used to be screen capture devices using RGB.
Region locked media is infuriating.
no one asked

Interesting timing, someone just put up a slim PS3 for sale for 40 bucks and I couldn't resist. Here I find out it's a model that can get CFW. I literally just did this process yesterday and am pleased as well.
I picked one up a month ago for 24 bucks but without a working drive, running evilnat 4.90 and using nopaystation. I just wish the PS3s were not running that hot, even after a cpu delid the temps still climb over 60c
@thesecretofmana Welcome to ps3 world. I have never seen one run under 60c. Even my old Ps3 from back in the day was a space heater.
@@thesecretofmanawdym? That's normal for any system. Have you ever built and used a PC?
Now get 4tb ssd 😊
I still use (and love) my PS3 Slim because of the versatility of being able to use CRT and LED type televisions with analog studio speakers without the need to use adapters.
I can use NES, SNES, Gameboy, GBA Advance, Neo Geo, CPS1, 2, 3 and different Sega or Namco arcade boards on my CRT TV and play old school style.
That's pretty cool, but just to be a stickler, the PS3 is incapable of outputting a 240p, so a lot of old school games before the PS2 will not look as sharp on a CRT. The PS3 can only output 480i at its lowest, so most ps2 games will look perfect on a CRT, but everything else was meant for a 240p output. But in terms of convenience, that's a pretty sweet setup.
I have both a PS3 and Xbox 360 Elite that have been in my garage storage since like 2013. I believe now is the time to get them out and back into rotation. This is the perfect start.
360 isnt as easy to mod, since there are no softmods for it. You need a modchip or an unpatched board, risking to get RRoD.
@@ExTremZero You don't need a modchip anymore. Just a nand flasher (raspberry pi pico works) and some wires and a resistor to solder. Rgh3 is very simple compared to older methods. Getting an rrod from doing it isn't gonna happen unless you mess it up big time.
@@pot3to444 from the mod itself you wont get a rrod, but when u are using older phat models you will get one someday. Well still you need something, and to solder things on tiny points to get a mod running, if its a modchip or not, its still not as easy as a sony console.
@ExTremZero @pot3to444
I'll look into all the options and decide from there. The crazy part about the 360 Elite is that it's my 5th one as the previous 4 had all got the RRoD and I kept sending them in till the 5th one was the one to not catch it! Now, here I go about to go messing with it! 😂
@@Baka_Hannibal As long as its a falcon or jasper revision there isn't a big risk of gpu failure like earlier consoles. You can check by seeing the amperage on the back. 12v16.5a is an og xenon, high rate of failure. 12v14.2a is falcon, and 12v12.1a is jasper. Both of these are safe from gpu failure, and if you have a jasper then you likely just scored one of the most reliable models of the 360.
I've been following the PS3 Jailbreak scene for years, specifically in 2013 when I got my Super Slim (because my FAT had YLOD and I decided to sell it). I remember everyone being pessimistic about "Super Slims even being hackable" and then we got HEN available for it too: it was a blast for me. As you said, PS2 emulation is not one of the greatest, but it's overall okay; while PS1 just works like a charm with the vast majority of games.
PS3 is really great these days and, though I have both PS4 and PS5 jailbroken systems, I always jump back onto my PS3.
I’ve just PS3 Hen my superslim. What do you need to do to prevent bans?
@@chunkytesco I don't play online, so it's never been a big deal for me. If you don't plan on playing online, then having HEN enabled is not going to change anything for you. I have read that some people even say that it's not much of a big deal if you go and play online games with it, as long as you don't use cheats or whatsoever.
I just wouldn't do it, to be 100% sure.
tl;dr: play offline and nothing will happen. Play online and there MIGHT be a slight chance of getting banned, though unlikely.
The only unhackable computer us an abacus
@@mgoXRAY i believe you get banned immediately when a Sonys Server detects a doubled serialnumber of a copied game online. If you just use your owned games should be fine. Same way how Switch consoles get banned.
@@ExTremZero Exactly! Though, I remember having played "for fun" a couple of matches on Modern Warfare (can't remember which one) and everything has gone smoothly so far. Maybe I was just lucky, maybe not. But, yes, playing your own copy with specific serial numbers prevents people from getting banned.
The only game I have ever played frequently, as my username suggests, is MGO, but in this case fans are hosting dedicated servers, bypassing the PSN essentially.
I’ve had a jail broken ps3 for about a year now and it’s honestly been the best think being able to copy my hard copy games into digital files and I love being able to preserve my games especially my rare ones that I can’t find anywhere else 😊

Dude! The Jailbreak process is so simple now. I remember 10 years ago, when if you wanted 3.55 OFW you had to downgrade with an e3Flasher, or teensy 2.0++ for NAND models. Good times! Love your videos MVG
I still remember having to solder 20 or so wires to my NAND (from the E3) because the ribbon which sat on the NAND wouldn’t read it/dump the chip properly.
All that faff back in the day and now it’s a soft mod!
It's because the industry keeps pissing gamers off that so much effort is put into bypassing copyright

Since PS3HEN came out, you don't really have to worry about which PS3 you have anymore. Sure, it's a little more relaxed with a real open custom firmware, but starting the HEN briefly to achieve the same result and play almost all backups is also an alternative.
with PS3HEN if you have things cached, it still works even without wifi too... Just gotta hit "X" once to start it on cold boot every time.
PS3HEN was too much trouble back when it first came out but it's progressed nicely to the point that I don't mind using it really. Still sucks that homebrew's out of the question but backups and PSN games are cool.

@@chemergency Thanks for the input. I thought that it was as tedious as before. I'd rather have a CFW capable PS3 , though.

@@Akirapoet It's not as annoying as it used to be but if you have the choice definitely go for a CFW-capable model. HEN is acceptable but not ideal by any stretch.
Did the same thing a couple of months ago after my Phat PS3 was collecting dust. Upgraded it to an SSD, cleaned it, new thermal paste and pads and jailbroke it. It's wonderful that you're able to keep your old console still alive and with additional features.
I am still amazed at how good the PS3 performs. (Except the SSD, it can't take advantage of the full speed of the SSD so it's still pretty slow)
The physical games cost less than candy and you get the trophies. This is stupid.
Nice. What do you mean that it can't take advantage of the full speed of the SSD? Where's the bottleneck?
@devincurrie4145 Only in very specific situations will an ssd actually net improvements. Sequential performance is definitely the biggest disappointment due to the sata controller used. If you still use physical media GTA V for example will still have long load times despite being installed on a ssd. Backups being loaded off USB is usually the best way to go with network loading being the fastest. That's a topic for another day
@@cavior44 jailbroken PS3 games can't play online and trophies?
@@RichardBrady-nz1gv Why would USB be the best option, when it's only USB 2.0 and loading a game from internal HDD is much faster?
PS2 emulation on PS3 is underrated. With many games, PAL version often runs very well.
This is awesome. Over the past year or so I've been jailbreaking my classic consoles and the PS3 is next in line. I have this same model, so I'm good to go. Thanks so much for this
Hen is basically the same. The only difference is you still have that annoying epilepsy warning on boot and you have to press a to enable Hen before you can run unsigned code.
I have a jailbroken PS3 since 2018, but I'm always curious to see this type of content and how it's changed since. Great video as always MVG!
What a coincidence you bring out a new ps3 video when last week i went back and binge watched all your older videos ands saw the ps3 video from back in the day you made. It's nice to hear you can jailbreak your PS3 Slim without downgrading it.
It was a pretty tedious process tbh.
Now I wanna get my PS3 back, thank you for the video, as always.
I have 2 BC PS3's and 2 slims, I decided to future proof my collection. Thanks for the information and video.
I got mine equipped with CFW Cobra years ago. Still works awesome 👍 Games are loaded from my NAS 🙂 But i love how you can upscale old titles with RPCS3. It makes the games look more superior.
Details on the Nas loading would be amazing.
Wait wait.. You can play games from NAS?? Over Samba or what? Details plz.
Sweet, I’m glad you made a video. More folks need to know about how useful of a device the PS3 is when modded.
I have missed that classic mvg music so much! I'm so happy it's back with this video, I think I'm going to rewatch this at least 5 times this year now xD
What I love about this video is that most of this has been possible for the last decade. Even when games were still coming out for the PS3, you were still able to do everything detailed in this video and more. I feel like good follow up videos would be how the non back compat versions of the PS3 were STILL technically able to play PS2 games with a wrapper and Native PSP emulation.
I remember even before cfw, you had to buy usb dongles to hack your ps3... ahh, I dont miss that at all.
Got one of these sitting in my closest I bought years ago to jailbreak. Nice to see the process has become considerably easier or least a lot less harsh with what firmware you need to do the process.
One of these days I'm going to follow this guide, buy an enclosure for one of the hard drives I have lying around, backup ALL my PS3 and PS2 games, and have my ENTIRE library in one digital location, such a sick thing to be able to do now!! thanks MVG! it sounds like like jailbreaking the PS3 Slim is easy to do and that makes me happy knowing I'll be able to get a LOT more use of a system I have that's currently just collecting dust and not really being played very much anymore, I'll definitely be playing and experiencing for the first time so many great classic PlayStation 1 games!
I've legit been looking to buy a PS3 the past few weeks and watched your other videos. It's perfect timing to see this! Thank you! I had no idea what the "yellow light of death" was. I didn't know that was a thing!
We have a super slim, a few slims, a NAS, and an Oled so this'll be awesome. Thank you very much for the overview!
One Important note-ps3 slim does indeed get the YLOD. The 2000 series has the NEC TOKIN caps that the fat ones had. Those still fail. Not as often as the fats-but it still happens. The 2000 series slim have the 65nm RSX same as the late fats had. The most reliable of the slims started with the 2100 series as those had different caps. Other than that, AMAZING breakdown on the ps3 and the jailbreak scene
The 2500 model has 45nm chips and no more NEC Tokin!
The tokin caps were very rarely an issue
I saw Bouncer in your library! What a game. Very fond memories playing that game when it first came out
I bought one off a guy a few years ago and its loaded with everything from NES-PS3 games. Love it!
Yup I've done this long ago and its wonderful. I would say however to make sure you have a significant capacity drive beforehand as it doesn't seem to be straightforward to transfer a jailbroken PS3 firmware to a higher capacity drive and I know some of the hard drive capacities offered in earlier PS3s are tiny in comparison to today's drives.
Was just playing on my modded ps3 last night, I remember using one of these videos as a guide. Thanks man it’s been so much fun
What great timing. I was looking for a recent tutorial the other day. Currently in the process of getting it done now. Thanks
I like how you post content you are passionate about and make it interesting for a broader audience.
It was the same scenario for me, I had an old slim in my cupboard, I got it out, installed cfw on it and ripped all my discs to an external it has some homebrew games also, it's still a viable "retro" system I just don't have time to play it these days 😊
I feel you man, I've got a lot of games across multiple generations just waiting for my retirement haha
Dont have time to play it yet you are watching this video..
@@BagzAndPresident Big difference between a 13 minute video, and 13 hour game ( at a minimum).
@@BagzAndPresident erm, that doesn't mean I still have interest in the video? This is nonsensical 🤷♀️🤣
@@BoggartBear yeah plus extra and my backlog on current system plus me playing on my steam deck OLED and switch makes the time to seek out my PS3 or other older retro systems nigh impossible 😕😕
This is a pleasant surprise to see. I recently jailbroke a slim 2100 with only 17 days total use on it that had a firmware from 2012 on it and have installed webman, new thermal paste and a 1tb SSD. The combo is fantastic for those wanted to get into the PS3 while there is still some life left in it. Mr Mario2011 has a great guide on the process and once you know it you can get a console jailbroken and installed with evilnat in something like 20 minutes.
The 2100 model slims for me are honestly the perfect middle ground with the PS3 system. Different caps and shrunken GPU/CPU compared to previous slims and phat consoles while still being able to be jailbroken and they don't feel cheap as the later models or are as unreliable as the models before it alongside looking super sleek.
Thanks for this! Both of my ps3 phats have killed themselves from Dark Souls despite thermal paste and pad replacements over the years. One day I'll fix them but until then, a 2100 model sounds great!
Great video and perfect timing for the release. I have a PS3 Slim that I brought from a Fry's back in the late 2000s sitting in my living room that I was thinking of putting away. Now I might want to tinker with it to put my games there. Thanks.
Talk about perfect timing, was looking at jailbreaking a PS3 a lot this past week lol.
PS3 Hen is actually very non invasive and is very functional. I had it for six months and then rolled back my PS3 Slim. It let me burn copies of my old PSX games and play them natively on the PS3 Slim.
There were other tools to function such as fan control and surface level tweaking. All in all it's a great alternative to those that install a CFW
My sister and I won a PS3 very late into its life cycle from Dave and Busters. It is a PS3 slim. I only played it for maybe 30 hours tops (more of a PC/Xbox guy). I can't wait to go home after work and check out the model number and do this. Thanks!
slims are usually easy to break. Enjoy!
Thanks for showing this. Both my PS2 and PSVita are modded but for some reason I never thought of doing that to my PS3. Looks like I will be busy next weekend.
Now this is something that even with my lack of technical know-how can figure out.

Thanks for the video, MVG! I also have my PS3 slim sitting in the closet, and I wouldn’t mind going back and playing some of those Sony Japan Studio games. I still don’t understand why Trash Panic or Tokyo Jungle isn’t just ported to every PlayStation after, they’re so good

yeah i wish modding xbox 360s was easier
no shit, its a soft mod. ofc its gonna be easier than a hard mod
@@ehsanghazavi470 what i mean is i wish the 360 had a softmod
Honestly, when it comes to 360 modding, you should just go online and buy one pre-modded. This is the way. Yeah, you're gonna pay more for it, but one, you're stimulating the economy for console modders, and two, it's just not worth fucking around with a soldering iron if you don't know what you're doing just to save a hundred bucks. Best to just pay someone to do it for you and call it a day. You also get to have a unique "special edition" 360 with custom lighting and maybe even a custom shell.
@@arnox4554 I paid like 50$ for an X360. Tried going online with it and it was banned from being online. I modded it myself and it was a fun project. It's running Aurora and I got an external hard drive to put all the backups on. Works great.
I'd also recommend setting up a games server for your games IF you want literal mass storage, I remember trying PS3 net server plus a bunch of ripped games on my PC's hard drive to run them over the network to the PS3.
I haven't used the tool in a while but it is absolutely handy.

Thinking about getting x360/ps3. Didn't have one as a kid, played on both with friends, love that time when every game had local multiplayer.
I'd say, get both of them. They are great consoles, and each of them have exclusives that made the system what it is. I have PS3 since 2020 and I've played a lot of games on it and I don't think I will sell mine.
Get the 360, the ps3 runs multiplataform games like ass and the multiplayer features are terrible. Speaking from someone who always had a ps3 and just got a fully pimped out 360 about a year avo
Having both is the wisest option. The 360 supports much more internal storage, the file sizes are way smaller and the games run/look better. Plus you can run hundreds of OG Xbox games through backwards compatibility upscalled to 720p. Also, some late PS2 games released on the 360 only and are "HD-ified".
The PS3 for exclusives and PS1, PSP and PS2 games. PSP compatibility is 30~40% and PS2 is ~80%.
360 jailbreaking is more involved, as you need to open it up and solder in a chip. If you don't wanna bother, then buy a pre-installed one, or just go ps3.
First of all, thank everyone for suggestions. For now I'm no living alone and have no space to put any console (and huge backlog on cromulent gaming PC, that i enjoy playing with series controller)@@KingLich451 actually, freeboot 360 slim is cheaper than most PS3 slims here. Ukraine were a piracy land because of inability to buy games for 60$. And it's still kinda is, many PS4s sold with HEN, slim for 200$, pro for 300$ (on average). PS3/x360 is nearly 100$, depending on cosmetic state and accessories (i see many listings with kinect and 2 gamepads for like 110$)
Been working on this myself, I stand mine up and have U bracket usb to mount a small 2tb external drive to the side, pretty clean and nice to have all the generations on there together, not just ps1, ps2, and ps3, but psp and vita as well
Thanks for sharing! I went large HDD and disc binder for my 100+ PS3 games a few years ago. Much more convenient.
Had my Japanese CECHA00 60gb since launch back in 2006 modified with CFW and the ability to play PS1, PS2, PSP and PS3 games all region-free with unlimited memory cards upscaled in HD via HDMI makes it by far the greatest console ever made.
I have never had any issue with it but about 10 years ago I had the RSX professionally reballed as preventative maintenance and has been used on average 3 times a week for at least 2 hours at a time since 2006, not one issue.
I use it in conjunction with an Mclassic hooked up to a 77" OLED and the games just look incredible 👌
Hooked to an 77" OLED TV? these games at their resolution look best (believe it or not) played on a monitor of 24" and below which gives you a higher pixel density when compared to a bigger monitor/TV that will give you less pixel density at such resolution and make the image/game look more pixelated or worse. Playing mine (seating close to the desk) on a fast 24" inch IPS monitor with low motion blur and HD CRT, no going back to anything bigger or with high lag for said console. And for the PS5 or any 4K gaming, a 32" inch monitor. The higher I would probably go for it (PS5 at 4K) would be a 42" inch OLED TV.
@sonyx5332 I agree but I'm a go big or go home person 🤣
@@Biggus_Dickus_69 never mind, I just noticed your username lol, you're right 😁😂

@@arnox4554 I'm not really familiar with heat issues. I got it for the full backwards compatibility. I don't use it super often. I've never had it lock or anything due to overheating. I've ran it for hours at a time watching dvds and had it on for several hours at a time in various games.
@@LotoTheHero Yeah you'll definitely want to have that console serviced and repasted because those early consoles are infamous for overheating and killing themselves just like the 360s of old.
@arnox4554 nobody will touch those anymore.....
@@PavethaWay What do you mean? Are you talking about in an official capacity? Well, of course Sony's not gonna repair them anymore. I'm talking about third-party repairs.
Yes, cant wait to "preserve" so many games
Amazing MVG. I inherited a slim from a friend recently. Had been trying to get HDD loader working on ps2 for ages but I think the reader or drive became corrupted after the very first try. Will absolutely start looking into the slim now as it looks so simple.
Great video! I have a ps3slim and game collection just sitting in a box in the basement. I moved on to PC and PS5 but now I think I'll make some use of it 👍
This is such an important video, MVG. Thank you for making it so clear on what model can and cannot be modified and in what way.
I just got an E01 working by replacing the HDMI encoder, and this was the first thing I did.
I literally jailbroke my PS3 yesterday. I feel watched.
🧐
Imagine getting raided and just for some cops to want to play. 10 guys in heavy armor playing some party game LMAO.
Great video, wish there was some mention of playing all those delisted PSN games again. OutRun, After Burner, and the Simpsons and X-Men arcade games to name a few.
Thank you for this. I will be doing this today. Snow day where I live today in the north east PA, new project.
You can also dual boot it back to OFW so you can sync trophies to PSN then go back to CFW and grind trophies
I was told not to sync throphies, which never had a physical release. Or did something change?
Just a heads up, you will need a new power supply after a couple of years. The slims are getting old now. But the power supply change is pretty easy.
Mine hasn't had any issues with the power supply, however its fan became louder and louder. At first I thought it just needed some dust blown out, but that didn't help. So I took it apart completely and replaced the thermal paste. Now it's as quiet as when it was new again. Unfortunately to get to the thermal paste you have to take it apart completely (at least that was the case for my model of slim), so it's not an option for everyone.
Amazing video. I have the Super Slim model and will wait for your future video for that version.
Time to one of my Slims me thinks! I had no idea you could get PS2 compatibility with a soft mod on a slim, fantastic!
I vouch for WebMan as the games appear on the PS3 main menu and boot from there. Also recommend an external 2TB HDD formatted to NTSF with ISOs (not game folders) to not fill your internal HDD.
WebMan is THE setup. WebMan fits very well together with "ps3netsrv" docker container. It allows to play PS3ISOs and PSXISOs right from network. Another big benefit is that we can install PKG files in bulk mode by mounting a network share from the "ps3netsrv" docker container.
With my tests the MultiMan cannot handle 200+ games/isos. It just hangs while refreshing the game list.
Very much love that someone else also is using ISOs for PS3. Sooo much better for the consistency!
Is there any risk to logging into your PSN account on a jailbroken ps3? Can you earn trophies on any games that you add?
Can't wait to give this a try. I have several PS3 slim models, hope I have a compatible one.
I've had several PS3s over the years and softmodded them all. For the best experience and reliability you will want at least a 21xx slim or 25xx slim (date code 0D or 0C) for putting on CFW.
The early 20xx slim still has Nek Tokins by the RSX and has the larger 65nm RSX, while 21xx and later have 40nm RSX so less heat.
The only other difference with 21xx and 25xx is that the BD drive daughterboard was integrated into the motherboard so if the BD drive dies the PS3 still boots as normal. Though if you don't plan to use the BD drive much this isn't a big deal
You can have a 1.77tb internal drive max. But its a pain to get the extra 270gb.
How can it be done ?
OutRun 2 is still one of my favorite racing games! Just beautiful! ♥
Got a PlayStation 3 over Christmas fallen back in love with all the great titles, especially God of war, ascension, best looking game of that generation
Can you still sign in to PSN and get cloud saves? Or should the hacked console remain offline?
Good question.
Yes, but you need to make sure to delete the history files everytime before going online and make sure to never use any homebrew software while connected to PSN. A much safer way would be to install a Dual Boot firmware on top of the CFW by littlebalup.
You need to be sure to be careful with your main PSN account on a modded system. Apparently there are reports that Sony are STILL banning users for having a CFW and going on PSN.
No they arent.
@@SouthizedYes, they are. If you go on any PS3 CFW forum in the last 2 years, there are still complaints of people getting their PSN banned and losing purchases. It could be a case of detecting cheating in online games or trophy leader boards, but you still need to be wary because apparently, Sony still is occasionally looking at PS3.
It's crazy that Sony can steal your paid stuff and recieved no consequences
@@GameTimeWhy This is the reason why Sony, Microsoft etc all use a virtual wallet. Your "purchase" is purchasing pretend money in that virtual wallet. Exchanging those pretend money for games is legally not a purchase, hence you do not own anything that you've purchased for these fake money.
And yes it's absolute garbage. At least in the EU there are some efforts to ensure consumer rights on digital goods, but not sure what the state is on this.
@@GameTimeWhy it's because you don't own the software you buy off PSN you own a right to use it as long as you don't contravene the holy end-user license agreement.
Since basically the 90s you have owned no software you have "paid" for.
Had mine since beta but yeah, epic topic 👌🏼 def looking forward to the next one when you get the hw
Got a compatible PS3 Slim in 2018 and installed CFW on it. Such a great system to mod!
Preserve your games from disappointment
We won't ever get back to the 360/PS3 glory days. Now it's day 1 patches for broken half assed games.
ps2 were the glory days
did this last year and can recamend
playing through my ps1 & ps2 collection has been great plus getting on some ps3 game i havent played in years
I just picked up a PS3 Slim 2501a from a thrift for $45 a few days ago. Wasn't sure if it would be fully operable (was in pretty rough condition) so was just hoping to use it as a dedicated Bluray/CD player if anything. Booted up perfectly, so I went ahead and jailbroke it (which really was just as easy as you described). Never had a PS3 during it's prime, so I'm very excited to finally get a chance to play some of the great games the console had for the first time and relive a few of my fav PS2 classics as well. Still feels like a very modern console for being released in 2006, and I'm glad to see the console getting some renewed love!
My favorite thing about PS3 is it exposed how over reliant developers became on directX
By the time ps3 came around and was found to be using openGL developers were stumped because they were so locked in with directX they had no idea what to do with openGL
It would be like a console releasing today that only supported vulkan api rendering and had no support for any other api devs who are locked into directX would have to redo games or just be lazy and not even try to make them work thus making the ps3 port terrible
Looking back i don't think the cell cpu had anything to do with it but rather developers not wanting to be developers and learn new things
Be aware that CECH-2000 Slim PS3 suffer from YLOD aswell as they use NEC Tokins like the Fat models. 2100 and onwards are fine.
Had to fix mine recently by soldering some talantum capacitors replacing the NEC ones.
YLOD is not a capacitor problem as many has speculated though, is it? It’s a problem where the solder for the CPU/GPU chip cracks and the chip needs to be reballed.
The 20xx slim also has the larger 65nm RSX, also the Nek Tokins by the Cell were changed to Tantalum in 20xx. The ones by the RSX remained and also changed in the 21xx revision. As well as a smaller 40nm RSX. I'd say the 65nm RSX was more to blame for YLOD over the caps
@@DuudeWhatDoesMineSay Its the other way around.
The YLOD was suspected (and honestly, depending on who you ask, on Fat models probably is) to be a CPU/GPU solder cracking problem.
However it was later found that when reballing or reflowing one would also heat up the NEC Tokins indirectly and they would restore, temporarily, their original capacitance.
That is why no reballed PS3 will be working for long, but capacitor replaced one will last a long time.
The reason why you can easily see that the NEC Tokins are the biggest problems in terms of YLOD, including all of the above, is that there are certain electronics (such as a specific Toshiba laptop model that I forget the name) that used these NEC tokins and they also fail after some time because the capacitors can no longer be used to provide a stable voltage to its connected components (in the case of the Toshiba laptop VCore wouldnt be stable, so the computer would crash and turn off randomly)
@@ffsn99b not every single one. CPU if Im not mistaken on the CECH2000 use Tantalum but the RSX is using NEC Tokin (or the other way around, dont remember 100% sorry). Sony probably knew that something was not ok with the previous models.
@@Marco-uo9ww thats what i said above. Last Fats had no Tantalum, 20xx had Tantalum by the Cell, 21xx had Tantalum by both chips

*It's time to repent and seek JESUS* .He gave his life, and suffered the wrath of the Father in the cross, to save you from eternal hell. For God loves you, but the sin must be punished. On the third day He raised from the dead, showing to the world that He is God. He'll return soon to judge and destroy the sinners. So turn away from your sin. Ask God to change your life and He'll do amazing things. Jesus loves you.

This is banger content bro. Stay in the game 🔥
Fantastic, I've got a BC PS3 for my own usage at home but I've had a PS3 Slim which my dad has been wanting. Now he can just use my game copies instead of buying his own!
Last year, my blue ray laser died but the system was still ok. I fixed the laser by replacing it with one from another system. Since then, I've been afraid of this one crapping out on me too. This is the solution to my worries! Thanks MVG!
I see that you're a man of culture, with that copy of FFT on the top of the pile. Quite frankly, I think it's the best PS1 game and I play it every year, and have since I got my copy back in 1997.
