Next episode: Aerith babysits the 16 year olds
Dan, as he takes a foundational, structurally significant brick - "I mean, this place was coming down on its own anyway."
19:32 best synergy attack, hands down. The sunglasses pose is just too perfect. 😎
"People die, and Yuna dances".
Also, "It's not death. It's a homecoming" hits way different after Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
Tifa and Aerith would absolutely be best friends with Yuna. The goblin energy of Yuffie and Rikku would also be downright dangerous to be nearby.
@@Ahrpigi absolutely!
@@Ahrpigi the now-dead FF Dissidia: Opera Omnia had some great intergame interactions. FF2's Leon teams up with FF15's Ardyn because they both use darkness for their own ends.
@@LadyLunarSatineoooh I remember that chapter. One of the reasons Ardyn gave me brainrot before I played XV lmao.
Was a crying shame we never got Rikku tho. So many characters she could’ve bounced off of to delightful effect. 😩
That had to be like, the entire alphabet of Officers in that one fight. There were just so many!
And that multi kill at the end with blade burst was cool.
Cloud, put that sword back in elden ring!
PS5 really showing off here.
That "several hours earlier" animation was so extra. Someone finished their assignment early~
i really like this part of the game. the subtle changes in cloud's behavior, which you might not even notice at first, paired with how the background music swells to become more and more tense and anxiety-inducing after the group is split up. it's so good!
27:37
Cloud: "They're with Aerith. They'll be fine."
[ _You Can Hear The Cry Of The Planet_ starts playing]
Oh no.
My thoughts exactly - that music queue hit and all kinds of feelings from my first play-though came flooding back.
In the finisher cutscene after the boss fight, I like the implication that Tifa took down the Red Dragon with her steely gaze.
44:41 Nanaki's taking his role as emotional support animal VERY seriously.
22:23 man it's SO RUDE of cloud to interrupt the QUEENS celebrating like. damn boy
tifa & barret: i dont feel very safe
12:52 tifa going to help aerith... angels...
Good catch
Cool gears rewinding the clock animation
Now give me an HD2D Chrono Trigger, Square
Would be neat to see a PC version that doesn't use a phone UI
I like the "look don't think about it" feel of Cetra vending machines.
surprised the Chadster doesn't want to analyse them to figure out how they work
Kinda reminds me of FF9's Memoria. Whirlwind of memories that's both beautiful and terrifying.
Don't let Aerith get eaten by the Red Dragon! you'l have to trek through this temple for weeks and eat fiends to get by!
Now imagining Aerith and Marcille talking about magic and the Lifestream, while braiding each other's hair. 😊
"Cloud! I've added an extra functionality to the Assess ability. Now it will tell you how to harvest and prepare food from the monsters. Please go scan everything one more time."
*MAI imitating the codec sound from MGS* "Cloud, that's a berserker bee. You can eat their honey, or fry 'em and eat 'em like popcorn!"
0:55 That's the kind of thing that, if it's not explained, needs to be explained.
8:44 Some bold Shinra grunt: "I'm getting the last word in!"
13:46 Reminds me of the final boss from one of the Star Wars games. You could 1v1 them fair and square... or you could trick them into dropping a pillar on themself and OHK them. They had to drop it, though, iirc.
22:01 Nice(?) of the music to conceal the skull cracking.
25:48 Wait, hold the phone. You're just gonna pull that out of nowhere? These are not the chills I was expecting.
27:38 I mean, he's not wrong. For once, mission priorities are the thing to focus on. If Shinra gets the black materia, it's game over, and Shinra will sacrifice anything to get it. And any*one*.
31:18 No kill like overkill.
42:38 This whole scene is weird for me. Cloud's literally been killing Shinra operatives this whole game, and the previous game. Why is that one guy so significant, because he's the only one to beg? Because Cloud said some weird stuff?
43:39 What?
With regards to 42:38... it's because the guy was disarmed and begging for his life. Cloud killed him cold blood, mercilessly. Even in a war, killing an enemy who is disarmed and begging for their life is something different than enemies killed in the normal course of fighting.
Also, Cloud's whole demeanor was obviously different from normal.
@@Kyuuketsuki02 True. My brain kinda switches modes with games. I've lost count of how many enemies will stop, beg for mercy... and then immediately attack again, with like... 5 HP left.
The other soldiers, of course, are simply never given time to beg for their lives because the party is too efficient at killing them.
I had two thoughts watching this section:
1.) Yuna performing the Sending in FFX
2.) That windy section of the Northern Crater in FF7.
I'm tempted to go back through the vods when this is all over and figure out where gravity is pointing in relation to the actual world with all the spins you made
They were upside down going into the dragons room, and then right side up for that fight.
The bench and vending machines in Cetra Land seems to resemble the good old save icons from the original game
The Shinra manufactured benches also have the save crystal icon.
@@imveryangryitsnotbutter Oh, i know, but it's very pronounced when glowing green on a blank space, rather than woven into a design
I like the implication that Shinra has so thoroughly stolen Cetra culture that whatever the save symbol means in Cetran culture is used to indicate a break on a bench in Midgar and other places they control
1:53 It’s worth pointing out here that stacking blue materia like this only works with spells linked materia have unlocked. So here Curaga wouldn’t get cast any faster, but the other three would.
15:41 As seen here. Healing spells are pretty fast to cast anyway, so Curaga is still quick, but that’s its normal cast speed. Regen a second later was nearly instant, however
I like tht this aspect was retained from the original. Remake could do it too but you really didn't have that much enhancement materia.
@@LadyLunarSatine Yeah I think Rebirth doubles the number of blue materia that can be paired like this, as compared to Remake
Man, that sort of thing seems incredibly useful. Does the game ever mention that that mechanic exists? This is the first I'd heard of it.
@@TylerRuinsI don’t think so, it’s just a thing you have to think to try. It does kind of suggest it, by having only the Elemental materia say you can only use one
Rebirth and original comparison by Playframe episode numbers:
Start to end - episode 22
Well, I say it's all episode 22. As usual, some of this stuff didn't happen this way in the OG, but also after the party gets split, I did notice the BGM changing to be more based on Listen to the Cries of the Planet, which plays in the dungeon after this is the OG, so (without me having looked into this too closely on my own) I'm guessing we're going to get a bit of a merge with all that as well.
As much as I like the improvements to the temple, I do kinda miss the mumbly little purple guys from the original.
I'm not sure why, maybe just feeling nostalgic, but trying to find all the paths and items is reminding of Xenosaga. Revisiting old areas through the simulator to find stuff you missed - or couldn't get yet. Plus the extremely handwavey explanation for why VR items were "real" when you exited. 😋
Considering what job Nomura got when he worked on Xenoblade 2, do you get the feeling he and Takahashi still talk about ideas for stories and lore? These remakes besides the original FF7 make me really suspicious that they're comparing notes.
I feel like Aerith's limits can be useful if her limit took less time to charge. All the character's limits take I think too long to charge ( I barely used limits when I played because rarely would the fight long enough for it to pop up) but especially aerith's I think because hers are all utility
25:25 **Cloud gets sent to the Farplane**
Brb giggling at the Monster Hunter comment about the Red Dragon. Ever Crisis has a Monster Hunter collab going right now (we get to fight a Rathalos! Two versions of which, so typical of the usual events lol.)
Like other crossover events, it’s a little more scummy in that the banner weapons and costumes will not return, though. >
One of many reasons why I will never play gacha games.
@@imveryangryitsnotbutterI get it, tho this is probably the first time I’ve played any gacha that restricted banner weapons outright. Stuff earned via events like in event shops or the stories, sure. The banner weapons themselves? Ugh.
But goddamnit, they have me hooked for the original story stuff so ugh. ~_~
I was not aware of that stacking materia effects thing! Now I kinda want to abuse that with my favorite ATB spammer Barret hmmmm. :Va
And it was a thing in remake too!
@@bentfishbowl3945IT WAS????? Good lord what all did I miss? I feel like such a dunce in battle systems for all I love video games. OTL;;
Only one of each kind, though, so putting two HP Absorbs on a Fire won’t absorb twice as much HP, for example
@@bentfishbowl3945it also worked that way with materia in the original. It allowed for some very fun broken combinations
This joke is a spoiler, you’ve been warned…
7:25 Cloud taking his Zack cosplay a bit too far here.
This is the place where I feel like the soundtrack rearrangement went farthest from the original. I kinda miss the mesmerizing insistent melody of the original.
I was about to write a comment saying that these were some of the only arrangements that feel like they're lose something from the remake treatment (The Nightmare Begins, Forested Temple, and Listen to the Cries of the Planet specifically).

ua-cam.com/video/ZThM9pA7x6I/v-deo.html This voice actor sounds so much like Seth Rogen that I went on a deep dive to see if it was him. Could not confirm.
