fun fact. i dunno if u got this : in kh1 the voice talking to you isnt roxas. nor ventus. altho fans think that. no its mickey. the japanese guide says its mickey. and his chat is very mickey like. this was because disney only allowed a few seconds of screentime. so square put mickey as the tutorial helper of sorts.
and the reason roxas can dual wield is because of his and ventus heart wakening up. after sora wakes. he gets this power to from the upgraded outfit.
411 for those who don't know: Disney channel originally exclusively showed Disney content, so even commercials were only ads for Disney products, 411 is their version of entertainment news. It would play as an ad break between shows

i figured this out a month ago because i have a kh2 poster (it's like a large sheet? like a thin blanket? but i put it on my wall) up in my room of ALL of the kh2 keyblades and i literally started counting the mushrooms on that keyblade for no reason and had the biggest brain moment ever, glad someone else knows and i didn't just miscount and think that i was clever

i think the concept art versions of roxas and twilight town are really interesting, like they were gonna go for more of a high-fantasy theme, but i think going with the "normal modern day kids in a normal modern day city" theme to contrast all the crazy magical fantasy of kingdom hearts was a really impactful choice
Fun fact about the Roxas fight (both normal and Data Roxas): If you steal his keyblades and then get him to the edge of the arena, you can infinitely chip his HP down by spamming Quick Run perpendicular to the edge of the arena. You can't kill him with this since you have to use magic or a finisher for that, but it makes a lot of the fight very trivial.

It is a tried and true cheese for Roxas, my ass always slightly moves the stick and get wrecked. I honestly am 50 50 on cheese wins vs just chipping my way through naturally fighting

if you go back to the back alley while the struggle turnier is going on with Roxas, you can actually refight Seifer.
i only found this out myself last year on a new playthrough because the timing happened to work out that i needed to turn off the game as i reached that point. i went off to save but on my way through the alley noticed Seifer there. most people probably go through the whole struggle bit in one go that's why its missed

One of the more interesting things in the manga is that when Sora meets Scrooge for the first time, Jiminy is telling him that Scrooge and Mickey traveled the worlds together with a gummi ship before the worlds got attacked by the Heartless. Always sounded like a great idea for a spin-off to me.

The only way I have lost to Seifer was through a randomizer. It randomized his ATK. And he oneshotted me.
Im going to be honest, it was at that point that I found out the losing scene with Seifer. Which I didn't even know existed. And I was actually pleasantly surprised XD
I have also lost to seifer in the randomiser because he got swapped for lingering will.

fun fact about Timeless River, the main hub is indeed based on Steamboat Willie, but the lil areas inside are based on other old Mickey Mouse shorts, the burning building is based on 2 firefighting Mickey shorts, the giant level is based on Mickey Gulliver's Travels, the scaffolding is based on the construction short where Pete tries to get flirty with Minnie without consent, and the house level is indeed Mickey's home but of a specific short since it features a Christmas tree in it, it's based on the Christmas short where Mickey and Minnie adopt kittens, I found some archives containing these shorts on Internet Archive including Plane Crazy the true first Mickey short that released the same year as Steamboat Willie

@@nerdychocobo Its a remaster not a remake so all they had to do was touch up the game a little. Its more intentional than that. But again the end of the day it doesn’t really matter its just one of those details that separates Roxas from Ventus.
@@themiragerecords You say that, but like, KH1 had to be rebuilt using a bunch of other assets because the original assets were lost in disasters, its reasonable that some KH2 assets were also lost, and you can't "touch up" audio using old relatively crusty audio, if they lost the original recordings they could have been up a creek

I lost to Seifer in purpose just to see what would have happened if Roxas loses, it was a shock that there was a different cutscene, same thing applies to Setzer, i lost to him on purpose and obtained the ring for +1 attack, this comes quite handy for a level 1 run since you can't level up.
This trivia in unralated to kh2 but back in 2002 Disney of Italy published a one issue only magazine as an informative guide to the game and an exclusive comic story in wich Sora and Riku travel to the world of Hunchback of Notre Dame (way before DDD) and even the world of The Sword in the stone

It wasn’t them “trying to be different.” People used to use the phrase “what’s the 411” when they wanted details on something particularly exciting.

Did you know in the original Kingdom Hearts 2, if you're in valor form and get on a skateboard, the skateboard hits actually count towards hits on valor form exp? Considering the really low damage it does and how fast skateboard moves , it can be a quick way to level it up.
Crazy that they changed small things that was interesting in the original one on final mix.i miss fighting all the Rapid Thruster on the pride rock in the original version.
I remember reading a comment on a video that said that there was an article saying that there was indeed a change to the Forzen World's story at the last minute in KH3 but the reason was apparently because something with Elsa in that early story counterdicted something in Frozen 2, though it wasn't elaborated as to what it was. When I asked though he said he didn't remember where he found it. I am curious about it and wonder what it said.

Losing to Seifer is actually the speed strat for Speedruns since the medal you get for losing is better than the one you get for winning (it’s also just faster to die to Seifer)
Edit: Disney 411 was basically as you said, just their little game announcement block/ promotion slot during regular air times. It wasn’t the only one they had, they did have 2 other promo slots I can’t really remember. I know for sure one was Disney 365. But that might have been the block during commercials that advocated for healthier lifestyles and habits for people and the planet.

365 was like 411, i vividly remember them announcing Spectrobes on it

Also a personal side note, but if you use enough magnet spells during the 1000 heartless fight (usually 2 in a row) and then look at the ground in first person, you'll speed up the fight a ton because it'll pull in and instantly beat any nearby heartless.
Somehow, doing that in first person speeds up how quickly the heartless gather around you. And with enough damage from magnet, you'll instantly beat whatever is grabbed and it'll just pull another nearby heartless in.
In fact, this is what made the level grind in Pride Lands peak so trivial on the original version. And if you are playing on a KH2 randomizer, you can even have Magnera or Magnega on some seeds, so it'll just be that much more powerful in the 1000 heartless fight.
Only thing holding you back is your MP... it does take a lot of it to do this.
Every video like this says the Final Form is only obtainable after the Roxas fight, but the first time I played the game, the first PS2 version, I've unlocked it at Old Mansion's Library, before discovering how to even enter The World That Never Was.

3:07 stfu, there is no way in hell that is what that hitbox was for. I have wondered about that everyplay through since elementary school. That and there is a 'hook/anchor thing in kh2 in the pirates world. It has a marker and you can hit it and a combo swings it around the room its in. I always thought it was a secret, though it probably was just for regular combat

When you’re in idle areas with the characters roam around, they’ll occasionally stop and chat with each other.
You can find instructions on how to level up each drive form in the status menu, selecting the form, and selecting the part with your earned exp. The blurb is at the bottom of the screen.
You can go into first person at any point while controlling the boys, even in combat.
Beat Hayner ten times as Sora to unlock bouts with Setzer. Ten wins against him lets you fight Seifer again. There’s no physical reward for this but it’s in the journal.

Man, ever since I learned about the scrapped Dark City boss forms I've been low key obsessed with them. I really hope we see some form of it come back in future games. The idea of the entire city itself being weaponized and anthropromorphized to take down Sora is metal as fuck. Maybe we'll get that out of Quadratum.
It's kinda funny looking at the final form Sora figure and comparing it modern Play Arts figures, I'm kinda surprised they haven't made a newer one

Avid KH2 Fan here; gonna be that guy and list some corrections namely towards the gameplay here lol
4:23: The command menu was *not* a new addition to KH2FM as it was present in KH2 OG to begin with.
4:36: This is more-so a half correction... These drawings aren't meant to be just references to KH1; they're intended to show Sora's memories that Namine had to draw to restore his broken memories due to the events of Chain of Memories.
5:56: So this is a neat one; in OG KH2 Wisdom Sora's gloves were in fact black which is consistent with the promo art. However in the original KH2 Final Mix, they enhanced ALL the forms to look smoother and more detailed, in addition to also making Wisdom Sora's gloves more in line with Wisdom Form as a whole. This wasn't a change done in 2.5 or any other rereleases.
6:53: Lion Sora's "Drill Finisher" is *NOT* a finisher. You can literally use it after one successful attack in midair. I believe the reason you may have thought it was a finisher is due to Lion Sora naturally having +1 ground and Air Combo+. In addition to any others you may have.
Disney channels "411" was a infotainment type short. Using the slang term "4 one one" like "What's the 411? as in "whats the latest info?"
the detection weapons seem to be named as such because they were used for testing hit detection. makes the most sense considering their low strength and, in sora's case, long reach
things like the saix infinite stunlock is well known thanks to the speedeunners ninten, spikevegeta or jhobz since they did that for the randomizers as well
the rc against sark is kinda common since you dont need to force it. it happens to me very frequently every playthrough.

I think the main reason the Dream Sword -> Ultima Weapon thing isn't on any of the wikis because of just how much they changed the design in the transition, to the point where I still don't really feel you can call the two the same. The shape of the blade is almost entirely different, as is the guard, even discounting the keyblade specific full guard shenanigans and filigree and whatnot. They just...aren't that similar beyond a couple design elements in the latter that call back to the former.

also fun fact, Did you know the reason soras wisdom forms gloves are black? the gloves were black because they wanted the yellow contrast. the yellow bands represent the masteryof thunder, the blue fire represents the mastery of fire AND wins with the reverberation effect on the flames this is all to show the ability to use homing blizzard. this IS a homage to chain of memories where to get homing blizzard you had to combine Fire Blizzard AND wind to get it. where thunder was kind of the outlayer which is why its on the gloves. another link to chain of memories, and shows that his forms actually reflect both is known memories and those he lost.

KH2 had Play Arts. They were a Disney Store exclusive in the US.
If you happen to have KH2 US, look in the back of the manual and I believe there should be an advertisement for the Play Arts
A European titbit regarding KH2 is that the vanilla version was dubbed but the final mix only used English audio. After that no other KH game has been dubbed again. In Spain, Sora has the same voice actor as Ash from Pokémon so it was quite amusing lol.

i didn't know about seifer, but on 1 of my many replays of kh2 i went threw the effort to lose to setzer witch is way harder than fighting him and he just gives you the trophy when he wins

In the vanilla NTSC-J release of KH2, Trinity Limit was broken. More broken than balloon in DDD.
KH2FM - In your first visit to TWTNW, just before fighting Roxas, you'll be in an area filled with shadows. I use the area to grind Wisdom form in late game. The cool thing about that area is, once you are about to hit 0 on your drive gauge go back to the warp/save area and your drive gauge will be completely restored.
Lingering Will - This beast of a boss can use blizzaga barrage and magnega on you.
Casting blizzard on the pirates, including Barbossa can freeze them. This is super helpful during the Barbossa boss battle in Critical mode.
Atlantica, Pride Lands, 100 Acre Woods and Olympus Colloseum part 2 are skippable. You don't have to complete the keyholes there to finish the game.

It annoys me more than it should that the guard on the sword that makes up ultima weapon is reversed from how it is on the dream sword. I know it's so it flows better with the keyblade guard but it makes me wonder why they didn't just make the dream sword match it

"The fight can only be accessed after viewing Final Mix's new Secret Ending"
Wrong. Beating Lingering Will unlocks the new Secret Ending. As long as after you're done defeating him, you go back to and the beat final boss again while playing the game on Normal or harder difficulties while meeting the requirements to see the original secret ending. On Beginner, beating them just gives you the key item to either get Sora a crown or upgrade it to silver or gold. Regardless if you've met the requirements to fight him (just beating the game), there is the secret ending from Vanilla KH2 that is used in all versions.
This is coming from a guy who owns and has beaten the Vanilla Japanese and North American PS2 releases, The PS2 release of Final Mix and the North American PS3 version.

On the Biggs and Wedge note, most people are familiar with those two and Jessie as the other members of Avalanche. I however had never noticed that any of them are in KH2... But i never look at the names of the shopkeepers so thanks for that! Something to keep my eyes peeled for on my next playthrough.
However, since I learned something, it's only fair to exchange knowledge for knowledge and you mentioned Biggs/Wedge, the Star Wars connection (which I've known for 30 years) and the two characters appearing in other FF games after 7...
But you didn't mention that their FIRST appearance in the series is 1994's FF6. In NA translations, one of them was mistranslated as Vicks on the SNES, but it's Biggs in all other versions since and was confirmed by devs to have always been meant to be Biggs.
Edit: I had, and I believe I still do (in storage somewhere) the Play Arts Final Form figure.
A lot of the little tricks mentioned with gameplay are actually used in speedruns. Even the World Lock-on.

In the original KH2 on PS2 the sleeves on some of the drive forms were bugged and are replaced with the Final Form sleeves, I think its the Wisdom and Master forms but I could be wrong.

Edit: Also, I remember the Disney 411 short! That was actually one of the first times I was exposed to Kingdom Hearts. I saw it on TV, and then asked my mom to get the game. She really liked Disney, so she played it with me and helped me beat it. Very fond childhood memories.

The Darth Maul Keyblade could maybe also be a reference to Ansem’s final form in the first game, when he wields a Darth Maul style sword.
Little side note but I didn't find this until I played critical mode. The first time you get to hollow bastion in kh2 when you fight the nobodies with Leon, there's actually a chance Leon can get knocked out and sora can go over and press triangle to wake him up. Pretty cool and I had no idea until critical mode pressured the hell out of that man lol.
I have a Roxas figure i don't think was mentioned, it came with a soldier figure and oblivion!
The figure can't pose well so it's in the box but yeah
