Fuel poverty looms for many amid dramatic hike in cost of living

- Britons woke up this morning to the prospect of much higher energy bills.
But it's not just the cost of gas and electricity that is soaring, other household bills are also rising dramatically.
Fuel prices, national insurance, council tax and the water bills may push many families to the brink.
Laura Bundock spoke to residents in the Bushbury South and Low Hill neighbourhood of Wolverhampton about how they are coping.

Hearing that old man saying to get a bus or train to stay warm that made my heart sink in his 80s he shouldn't be doing that
He made me sad too.
especially when the rich upstairs who are creating this are still flying around in their private jets :-( the well to do are not in any way being affected by any of this never have never will :-(
How the hell are elected officials letting this happen in 2022. What a disgrace.
Boris knows that but doesn't give a 💩 because he also KNOWS there are plenty of idiots to vote him back at next GA 🤣🤣
Its been done on purpose mate just to make us pay tons extra money,All pure greed now days
That's what we get for voting for nihilists and friends of oil exacutives.
Because there are no elected officials going hungry or cold. Most honestly don't care. No matter what they say.
Absolute disgrace from the government and energy companies. This isnt the the 1920's anymore.
Johnson and he's useless government are pushing people into poverty vote for the reform party at the may elections.

Could have fooled me it's almost worse than the 1920s
It might not be the 1920's but we will soon have a great depression not seen since the 1920's.
Yeah it's the 2020's and history is repeating it's 100 year cycle. 30's will see slight improvements the conflicy, 40's will be crap then things will start to improve around 2050.
Governments are supposed to protect the people not dictate what we can and can't do on this once beautiful free amazing world,
The west needs to come together and lock arms and say that enough is enough and stand up for the future of humanity and hold leaders etc accountable
Government doesnt care .
Government only care to send weapons and fuel this proxy war more there is billions for proxy war but no money for fuel and food
I have been saying this! I am ready to go outside number 10
The west has spent the better part of 5 decades destroying the middle East. I say let them crumble.
We have gone back 50yrs
Holy sht, there's a lot of single mothers in the UK!
Lots of absent fathers too
Whilst mps get pay rises and claim expenses for various different homes.
£222 a month for Energy,WFT is going on in this World today !!!!! most of my life,Cost of energy was 15 a month just for Gas and Electric both put together,Back in them days even put the heating 24 7 days a week,How much mine costed about 22 years ago

Money for bingo but not for heating typical, of certain people. I collect wood daily to heat my home, burnt in a open fire. I live on very little money food daily is porridge, Yorkshire puddings & onion gravy. Only hot water I have is heated on open fire. Hard times ahead for sure for a many people like myself.
What a wonderful world we live in
Graham looks epic for 82 years old
It might be tough for some but think of poor Liz who is now down to one bar on the fire at Buckingham Palace 775 rooms, Windsor Castle, Holyrood Palace, Balmoral Castle, Sandringham Estate, Hillsborough Castle, Kensington Palace, Clarence House, St. James's Palace, Frogmore House, The Royal Lodge, Craigowan Lodge, Hillsborough Castle, Highgrove House and Gatcombe Park. Poor sod.
German food prices increased 20-50% today. EU has no animal feed. German consumers are hard limited on the number of food items that can be purchased. France is about to introduce food vouchers in the run up to rationing. Oh and 4 USAF F15s flew over Dundee this afternoon.
My goodness God help these people. Being wraped up in blankets in bed with the lights all off is not living. Their government has to find a better way to helps its residents. They have the meter system in their houses so once the meter starts to get low they have to put money in it so the heat does not get shut off this is the worse system ever created and I would go as far to say it is very mean to put people in positions like that. I really feel for these people. That man cannot even sit in his home and relax because he will freeze to death so he has to stay on buses and trains to keep warm. Boris should try living in that mans shoes for a week I am sure he would not last.
Time to ask for donations from abroad
Damn poverty is real in Europe. Thank god, the government of Botswana built a proper system
Sadly your country will be greatly affected by the power grid instability in South Africa because most of Southern Africas power grid is connected
So is Skid row Downtown Los Angeles
@@milochothia we don't get power from south Africa. We use coal since we have abundance of it. We only buy goods from south Africa, created by international multinationals doing business in that country.

I no longer have my heating on a timer. I now stay in bed and read through news and social media on my phone. I am retired so I can do this. Heating only goes on for a couple of hours in evening. I sit under a throw too.
That is what I will be doing this winter.
Levelling up !
Johnsons green agenda is pushing people into poverty.
Thanks Boris, your so good to the British public.
Boris giggles and picks his nose knowing there are plenty of idiots to vote him back at next GA.🤣🤣
There’ll be emergency humanitarian appeals for us soon !
Nope, we cannot buy weapons with that dirty cash.

the energy price hike is real! Im checking my meter every day, and £ easily goes down the drain T_T
remember this when people go to the polls in may and the general election
A large proportion of the UK will have starved to death during the British Famine by 2025.
Forget about the fuel energy (yes it will be uncomfortable) and concentrate on food resiliency. No food can kill within 4-6 weeks.

We have food in shops.

My wife is Mexican. We moved here because I saw the writing on the wall in the UK. Our energy bills here are under 10 pounds for 2 months!! Is it perfect? No, theres other cons to being here but at least we have a good quality of life, can heat and cool the house, food on the table and can have breakfast out once a week in a nice restuarant which is a hell of alot better than many people are facing.
If Mexico is so good why are so many Latinos heading for the States?
I'm in Egypt and ditto. I'm an expat. My Egyptian husband died in 2009 and I stayed on working. I wanted to return to the UK as I'm 72 now. However I now realize I can't afford to. Here on my limited income I have a roof over my head and food and can keep cool in summer. What's happening in the UK is terrible.
Changes won’t happen until people protest. This couldn’t happen in France.

The UK is interested in projecting itself internationally with the ongoing conflict, leading a global pro-sanctions and pro-military aid campaign to Kiev. The US historically occupies this type of position, but there is strong popular pressure on Biden to avoid a new war, which leads Washington to take a more realistic stance. Only in the EU there is a more genuine interest in peace, as the conflict directly affects the European continent and impacts trade and energy supply, leading Europeans to also act realistically when advising Zelensky. The UK, on the other hand, as not a member of the EU and being free from US social pressures, remains able to occupy this position of “global anti-Russian leader”, which is why it has acted in such a destabilizing way!!
The UK is NOT leading the way on anything to do with Ukraine!. Johnson is full of empty words but look at his actual actions, he is in Putin's pocket and he and the rest of the Tories are STILL taking Russian money. He is a traitor plain and simple !.
