Mental Health: The True Cost of Living

  • Nearly a third of people say they feel more depressed about the rising cost of living than they did six months ago, a Sky News poll reveals.
    As households face squeezed budgets and with the government under pressure to tackle Britain's worsening cost-of-living crisis, we asked people how it was affecting them and their families.
    If you're affected by any of the issues raised in this report, the Samaritans are available 24 hours a day on 116 123 or by email at jo@samaritans.org in the UK. In the US, call the Samaritans branch in your area or 1 (800) 273-TALK

    The longer this cost of living crisis continues, the more people are going to die from mental illness. As someone who has struggled with mental health, my heart goes out to all those who are not able to cope at the moment.

      It's really bad. Like really beyond control now. Maybe it's a good thing we go to war. At least we will get a ration pack. Cos I wouldn't misbehave and go to jail.but thefts must be going through the roof now. The authorities will be powerless to stop anarchy once it kicks off big time..and it will soon.

    I run my own business and work a second full time job, my partner works full time in NHS mental health services. We spent the last 8 years saving every penny never gone on a holiday or had any free time and still can't afford to buy a house to start a family together. I feel so angry, lost and hopeless inside I wouldn't wish this life on my worst enemy, I struggle to see what the point of my life is. One of these days I wouldn't be surprised if I just collapsed and died from stress and exhaustion, every day is a battle to keep living.

      It’s not even down to improving the services, it’s more to combat it in the first place which everyone seems to think it’s some kinda of virus that’s contracted when it’s something as simple as societal problems. Societal problems being the fear mongering news (like the one we’re commenting on and pretending to care), failing education system and just damn straight lack of compassion for each other with our peers with everything being conditional. They want this mental health crisis, it can weaken our population and makes us less powerful to combat a corrupt government like the one we have now.

    • @mast3rchief536
      @mast3rchief536 Рік тому +18

      I mean people overlook the first step, why people are having mental problems in the first place and go straight to “how can we improve mental health services”. Yeah let’s get it overwhelmed and put more people on drugs opposed to narrowing down factors such as cost of living, social media and toxic media such as the news.

    This is the reality of modern living, we are being bombarded with advertisements, and constantly everything breaks of is outdated. The world needs to stay a step back, slow down with technological advances and concerntrate on providing fresh food and free power. Governments are so far removed from reality now, it's outdated. We need smaller localised governments who have complete control over their constituency, and allow diversity in how people choose to live.

    Mental health NHS is really only interested in treating short-term acute conditions, which can be quickly resolved in a single set of treatments at relatively low cost. E.g. treating PTSD after a road traffic collision. There is just no money for the long-term mental health treatment required by many people in our society. Especially since many of these cases are not 'curable', so they simply get ignored.
